Enjoyed my overall trip to the beach after recovering from eye surgery in May. But this changed abruptly with the rude, piggish service at Baja. For some reason, for a second or two, I couldn't think of what sauce I was asking for more of (sour cream) and the person at the register yelled loudly Are You OK. Felt humiliated in front of my family. Then he made it worse by telling the chef and having a great laugh at my expense. Plus, unfortunately the quesadilla tasted like cardboard. Lousy experience. Breakfast was good, that's all they have to offer. Service was ok but the food was so bad for the price. Chips tasted like they were left out for 10 years and my bowl was 2 times the price of a chipotle bowl but 2 times worse than chipotle. Wouldn't recommend besides the breakfast. read more

NO WATER!! I spent 30 dollars on food and ask 2 people and both said "we dont have water cups" and then I was offer a three dollar dasani water bottle. The menu prices are about 50% more than last year as well. If you want an over priced burrito bowl and a dry mouth then this is the spot for you. Rick if you are reading this please make a change. This was my first time here. It was rated 3 stars overall, but I say 4.5 stars!!! No, really. My wife and I had one HUGE burger each, and they were cooked perfectly. Good beef. Mine was with BarBQue sauce and cheddar with bacon. Marg had a regular. One/ half pound of beef!!! Holy Heifer, Batman! This place also does breakfast and they have a big menu of Tex-Mex food. We had salsa, guacamole and chips. Delicious. Next time you're visiting Bethany Beach, walk down Garfield St and check it out. It's good!!! read more

I wasn't very impressed with this place. My friend wanted to go here because he used to go in previous years and loved their fish tacos. When my friends and I went, they even mentioned that it tasted different and wasn't the same. They have hour hour deals ends at 6PM. I ordered shrimp and crispy fish taco. The tortilla was a bit soggy, the tacos itself was very dry. The sauce didn't give it much flavor cause there was really no sauce. I had to add a lot of extra sauce on the side table to give it flavor. My friend ordered the magarita pitcher and holy hell that thing was super sweet. Too much sugar for my flavor. Another dish we ordered is taco salad. Again - no flavor, just a loaded with beans, tomatos, sour cream, and a little bit of chicken. So they of course put more of the other items to make it look filling. It was definitely all fillers. I think I'll try other places... read more

The best and most interesting part of this spot is the salsa bar. Everything else is SUPER mediocre and generally not worth it. I was initially really excited to see this restaurant pop up on my Yelp app, but so underwhelmed by the actual food and drinks. I had guacamole and a margarita and my friend got one fish taco and one shrimp taco. The guacamole was the most bland, least interesting guac I've had from an actual restaurant (as opposed to grocery store, pre-packaged guacamole. There was a weird aftertaste, like they had mixed it with sour cream or something that doesn't belong in guacamole. It was basically mashed avocado with some unidentifiable ingredient. Fortunately, the salsa bar helped doctor the guac and make it mostly edible. But I honestly can't think of the last time I didn't finish a serving of guacamole. It's literally my favorite thing. The tacos were equally underwhelming, and we left the restaurant feeling like we had spent more money than we should have, on incredibly mediocre food and drinks. It was literally a bowl of toppings with nothing. No substance. I left here hungry after trying to stomach a whole bunch of cold toppings. Went here with my 2 sisters and expected a great family dinner. I ordered a simple Caesar salad with shrimp because I was like "hey, how bad can they mess up a salad?". Never have I been more wrong in my life. The dressing was watery and looked like dyed water. And the taste... oh the taste... it was like I was a peasant living in the 3rd century and decided to bite a cabbage that served as my goat's pillow for the past 15 years. I walked in this restaurant happy and came out with depression. The only part of the salad that had taste was the shrimp. And I was on the verge of tears when there was none left after I found only 4 shrimp in my salad. 4 shrimp... that's like, 2.50 each shrimp. I could have bought something actually edible with that money. My sister's input: uhhhhhhhhhhh I came here wanting some food and I left this bih disappointed and still hungry. I heard this place had good margaritas, so my friend and I shared a margarita pitcher. We thought it was $16 as that is the only price posted anywhere (apparently that's a happy hour price). Turns out the pitcher is $25!!! And it had much ice we only got 2 glasses out of it! Such a rip off!! There are plenty of places around Bethany with much better margaritas for much better prices. We come here for their happy hour specials every time we come to Bethany! My mother enjoys her frozen margarita for $3. My Nana likes the $3 beer. Me - I like it all. The Southwest Chipotle burger for $5 during HH is awesome. And you can choose your salsas to dip your chips in. The ricken fries are on the list of things sent down to Earth for us. OMG. Seriously. From the bacon to the way the fries are cooked to the ranch whatever dipping sauce. Cons - the nachos have gone downhill.As for outdoor seating - no trash bin but yes there are flies. Though I've never been to outdoor dining at the beach that doesn't have flies. I always see the workers here cleaning the tables. We'll keep going - no question. read more

Very good breakfast. We had pancakes, eggs, bacon and an omelet at out table and all were excellent. Often, omelets are too greasy, but this one was not as well as being light, fluffy and tasty. Fresh ingredients (it was a western). Baja is a counter-order restaurant, so know that it is not table service. I'd say that is a plus because it was a Saturday and busy and we were in and out in a reasonable time. The pancakes are HUGE! Very well made and tasty. They have a barista-type coffee area and the Mrs said the brew was excellent. The two things that were a little disappointing we're the home fries that come with breakfast-- they were a little bland and dry. The other is that it is a Pepsi place-- I'm a Coke guy. This place has potential but really fails when it comes to their staff. Their big thing is happy hour which is everyday from 3-6 with good food and drink specials. I would recommend going for a couple of happy hour drinks but eating elsewhere. We have a place in Bethany so do go from time to time but we know what to expect. Two recent examples of poor training of their staff (or poor policies?): 1. We saw an employee wipe down tables with a dirty rag, then wipe the trashcan, then wipe tables again with the same filthy rag. I imagine this violates a few health codes. I hope the owner / manager reads this so they can address these sanitation issues. 2. We asked for a margarita, which is undoubtedly their most advertised drinks, on the rocks with salt. We were told that we could help ourselves to packets of salt. What? We clarified because we thought it was a communication error, but again the girl at the register said they don't rim glasses and to just use packets of salt. C'mon! This is laughable. read more

This place was really packed to begin with, but the service was really warming. The people at the counter were really nice and sweet. The food was outstanding. Given that it was the middle of the day and people were swarming in, one would expect the food quality to take a hit, but the food was really appetizing and more than delicious. We got the steak quesadilla which I loved, and my wife got the Southern Ranch burger i think, and she proclaimed that it was the best burger she has ever had. Our trip, our first to Bethany beach was truly awesome, and the food from this place definitely added to the nostalgia and experience to remember. Baja could easily make itself a four or five star location because the food is delicious. On Labor Day weekend, I stopped in for a late lunch. I was lucky enough to get happy hour pricing (their happy hour runs from 3-6pm). I ordered the southwest chipotle burger and guacamole + chips. I also picked up some salsa from the salsa bar. The burger was delicious and the guacamole was okay (I've had better, and at $6 for a small cupful, it was not really worth it). However, the different salsas from the salsa bar were quite delectable (with unlimited refills). Next time, I will just get the $1 bag of chips and eat the various salsas. On a side note, I got a water cup and was not charged extra like some of the previous yelpers have stated. Baja's biggest problem is that they do not have air conditioning. Sure, they have several ceiling fans, but on a hot summer's day, those do not do enough. It actually felt hotter inside the restaurant than out on the streets of Bethany. Combine that with an inordinate number of flies buzzing about, and it is clear to see how this four and a half star experience dropped down to a three. My recommendation: Get the food and take it out on to the beach or back to your condo. read more

We had an amazing dinner! Our original plans went awry because of the weather so we brought our party of 9 here. All of the staff were friendly. We ordered quickly, food was ready in a timely manner and delicious! We had 4 adults and 5 kids with no complaints. Everything was delicious! We highly recommend the quacamole and the queso.
