One of my favorite spots! The meat is always great, though I'm not loving how they moved more items to the premium menu. Service is usually good, except that one time our original waitress chased us into the parking lot over a $3 tip. Would also highly encourage trying their raspberry wine because that was delicious! - - - - - - Pairing an hour wait and mediocre service for a weekend AYCE KBBQ is easy to fathom, but I was so glad to discover that this wasn't the case at Bak Kung. For starters, parking wasn't difficult. Though there's a few spots in the small plaza, there is ample residential street parking in the neighborhood. To my party's surprise, it was not packed on a Saturday night... red or green flag? We ordered the regular / cheapest option, and the variety did not disappoint! Among the delicious options included brisket, beef tongue, beef jumulleok, bak kung steak, steamed egg, and even their "birthday cake." Their side dishes were not notable, but what was outstanding was their meats and service. Specifically all of their meats were fresh and already defrosted though not brown - not a single frozen brisket! Between cooking the meats, the servers regularly came by to check on our orders, refill our waters, and provide tips (certain sides of the grill were cooler). While flipping through their Yelp photos, we discovered their "Birthday Cake" which was an assortment of meats. Tip for this... don't save it for the end because it's quite a bit of meat to finish! My local go to spot... great quality meats and sides for all you can eat... they have shrimp and baby octopus too... excellent side and choices of 3 menus ... delicious homemade dipping sauces... and wonderful selection of draft beer in giant flasks!!!! I chose this place for a happy hour gathering of 10 and it was fantastic! The reviews here are all on point. The AYCE is from list A at $30 or list B at $35. We went with list B for more variety and everything was fresh. Remember to pour your own sauces into the bowls for dipping. The service was attentive and friendly. Whenever we needed them, they were there refilling waters, getting more banchan or soju, to ordering, and grilling. We stayed for about 4 hours and they never rushed us to leave. We joked with them and they joked back-excellent and thank you for such great service! The parking was also hassle free: their own free private lot which can spill into the front of the church area and if not, free street parking and also across the area where the Weinerschitzle is at. Bday Gift for my brother on Christmas Eve. Came with party of 8 adults, 3 children. Total was $445 for Special B + 1 Soju + 1 soda and auto gratuity and tax. Ladies + Tim were absolutely lovely. We got the Special B, my personal favorite was the marinated steak, my sister loved the Sirloin, mom liked the spicy bulgogi chicken and bday birthday brother loved the brisket. I am giving 4.5 partially because they did not have cheese corn and other point is because meat quality was a reflection of price. I went to AYCE KKBQ and Sushi which was horribleeee quality meat like you definitely were getting what you paid for here. Here the meat quality was good, but there is tiny bit room for improvement, but you truly are getting what you pay for. They do have a high quality special for $49.99 with premium boneless short ribs and Prime Rib Eye so I would have to try that and rate on quality before i can give a 5 Star. So while I took off half a point for quality this only reflects what I have tried to far. On another note, i would come here for the atmosphere alone. We had an 8:30 reservation for the party of 11, including 3 children under age of 6 and we ordered a lot and had a lot of questions. Never once did I feel like we were being rushed or were annoying them. They were patient, lively, and silly and sang my brother happy birthday with meat, which I thought was so lovely. We typically go to JKbbq and i like here that they serve you the marinated steak as a whole and I find Jkkbq's is more flavorful vs Bakkung serves it cut into piece. I am incredibly disappointed to report that this eatery no longer appears to offer Sikhye (boooooooooo!!!!!!!!!!). Additionally, they appear to have done away with the charcoal grills that set them apart from most of their competitors - their grills now appear to be gas-only. :( That said, despite the (former) best unique features of Bak Kung now gone, it's still an otherwise decent AYCE KBBQ option if you're in the area. I have mixed feelings about this AYCE KBBQ spot. I had a friend recommend this spot and the 5 of us decided to meet up here for dinner. Parking lot is small and we parked a block away on the street. Other members of our group were already seated when we arrived. We sat and studied the menu and we all were ready; we all knew what we wanted. Service? That's where is gets tricky. You may have to jump up and down, whistle, and wave to get someone to attend to you. And once they're gone, you'll have to do the same routine all over again. (Yes, we sat for long periods without water or drinks.) And, in a first, when a member of our party asked for something, he was growled at by the server. We all laughed at the ridiculousness of it all. The KBBQ was good. I'd give it 4 stars. We were still very hungry when we finished our first round and placed another order for more. But they took so long to deliver the next round, the hunger feeling had passed. We still managed to eat most of it. With so many kbbq spots located in Koreatown, Los Angeles, it can get very overwhelming trying to choose which spot to try. I'm glad I stumbled upon this spot and gave it a shot. They stand out because they offer (2) menus priced at $32.99 and $49.99. At the lowest menu, you get the choice of steamed eggs. Earlier this year when price of eggs went up so high, many kbbq spots removed it from their menu all together or they only added it to the expensive menu. In addition, if you come here to celebrate your birthday, you're in for a real treat. They make you a meat birthday cake (see photos) and it's pretty awesome. I can see why fellow Yelpers have been praising this spot as the service I received here was by far one of the best in the area. Servers were always on time to replenish the meats without us having to ask and the owner seems to be pretty engaging with its customers which is apparent when he greets the return customers. They also have this awesome cumin powder that works so well with their hot sauce. Try it with the thin meats or the squid and it tastes like the flavors you'd get at a chinese skewer restaurant. Additionally, they leave the condiments on your table which is so convenient because I eat up my sesame oil and salt sauce that I always feel bad asking servers to refill it. I liked how thick the cuts were because this literally melts in your mouth. Prime Boneless Short Ribs ( A ) - thinner cut of meat so don't cook it for too long, super tender! Rib Eye Rib-On Prime ( B ) - one of the best rib eye i've had, make sure to not cook this for too long either! From the regular menu, these were my favorites: Beef Brisket, Thinly Sliced Beef Belly, Beef Tongue, Squid, Beef Rib Finger, Steamed Egg and the Miso Soup. The beef rib finger has an aromatic garlic marinade which smells super good. I liked their take of the steamed egg and it wasn't overly salty. Miso Soup was a bit different with a spicy kick to it which I liked! It is AYCE for 2 hours. However, the time limit wasn't really enforced and we ended up staying for 3 hours. To be fair though, the place was pretty empty. You get a decent selection of meats. I suggest beef brisket and marinated beef short rib (my favorites). The steamed eggs were not that great, so I would skip that next time. Service was friendly. They offered good banchan. This may be the greatest Korean bbq I have ever attended. Here's my experience First off this was for my gf birthday celebration so a nice premium Korean bbq was granted. Once we stepped we were already greeted and sat down. They took our orders and asked all the basic questions. Pretty good so far. Then we got the meats. Holy cow the meats here are amazing !!! I've been to several Korean bbq and no near as good as here. It's like the animals are killed in back of house or something becuase they tasted soooo fresh. Refills of drinks and other things kept coming which was nice. My party loves ride paper. Now I don't want to get this employee in trouble. We had brought a birthday cake and he put in the fridge for us ! Super cool person. As the night went on we were full ! All the meats we ordered were amazingly marinated and yummy. We then asked for our cake and the server brought us plates and a knife to cut the cake !! They didn't need to do all that but they did !! We then proceeded to cut cake and sing while our server joined us for the singing. For the past 35 years my friends and I have been going to Korean BBQ and the one thing I have noticed is how much Korea town has expanded and how many Korean restaurants have opened and we have been to quite a few. I believe that this has led to everyone upping their game and we are reaping the benefits. Most important factors to me that makes for a great Korean BBQ restaurant is the Quality of the Meats, the Marinade, the Side Dishes (primarily the Kimchi), and the Service. Bak Kung has all bases covered and since we discovered this place about 5 years ago things have only gotten better. My favorite dishes are the bulgogi, galbi, spicy chicken, peeled shrimp and there is so many more.
