Baker's is a great little burger chain which has a niche menu of sorts, but which does everything well that they do. Like In-and-Out, they do a fried burger very well and have a fairly small and unchanging menu, within that framework they offer much more. I stopped by last week when I was in the Upland area at this store and as usual the food was freshly cooked, of perfect temperature and taste. Although I generally prefer grilled burgers, the Baker fried burg is about the best of the lot. The bun and burg are always fresh and tasty. And their fries........worth the stop for those alone, in a world where the other fast food giants are devolving their fries into a morass of potato skinned crap. No skins on Bakers fries, and as a result they taste like fries should, and they add that hint of lemon salt to them that is heaven on a fry! Although comparisons with Del Taco are obvious due to similar menu diversity, which like Del Taco includes an Americanized mex menu, the Baker product is much more consistent and a notch up on quality. This opinion comes from a Del Taco frequent flier who is there at least once a week and indeed likes their menu. Del Taco fries (and I love 'em) vary in cook time and quality from store to store (and shift to shift in the same store), but every Bakers I have eaten at have done the fries exactly the same way. Hard to blow it when cooking fries is only all about oil, temperature over time, about as simple as cooking gets. The mex food at Bakers is also of the same consistent quality as their American food, with some improvements over Del Taco, including the guacamole and their chili fries and nachos. Another difference is their shakes. These are more varied than any other burger chain, and are a welcome surprise to the first-time Baker customer. This is another aspect that sets Bakers above In-and-Out in my opinion, who has three flavors of shakes on their menu which do not vary. And just try to get a chicken sandwich or a bean burrito at In-and-Out..... Drive through is always a pleasure since Bakers seems to hire only persons who can articulate clearly and correctly and also they do not ask you to add five additional items to your order after you have told them several times that your order is complete. Bakers regardless of location always seems to staff friendly employees, almost cheerful is the norm that I have experienced, quite a change from the surly former DMV employees who we see too often staffing the the fast food Drive throughs nowadays. In-and-Out is the only fast food drive through that surpasses Bakers in quality of communication and order taking. My only real issue with Baker's is location. They are all quite east of my regular range of operations and therefore my visits are infrequent. When I was living and working in the Palm Springs area a few years ago and driving back and forth to Tujunga weekly, I would always time my trips so that i could stop for lunch or dinner burgers at one of the many Bakers along the way from Upland to Beaumont. I usually take my orders to go, ive only dined in a couple times, one time there was a really nice worker helping out. I recommend trying it out, its a good vegetarian option, and can be vegan if you hold the cheese and check the rest of the ingredients. Shredded beef tacos are great since they are on corn tortillas and the meat is very good. I am on a gluten free diet so there are limited fast food places I can go. These tacos are very good so that makes this place a hit. Their ice tea is okay, but they don't carry sweet and low so that's a downer for me. Ok, so.. my boo and I were really hungry.. It was 11:35 and we were lazy. So naturally, I whip out my trusty iPhone and hit up my Yelp app to see what we had to pick from. Baker's was down the street and open til 12am. So, it was a done deal. Although I'm a vegan/vegetarian I figured I'd just order fries or somethin' like that because fast food places never have options for veg-heads. We pull up and look at the menu and WHAT!? A VEGETARIAN SECTION. Veggie Burgers, Veggie taco meat substitutions and more! So friggin' awesome. Where the hell can you get a fast food veggie burger for under 5 bucks? Nowhere. The lady that helped us was a doll, even though we put in our order 15 minutes before she was hoping to go home. I chose to get the Veggie Taco Burger and that was a bad choice because I got it without cheese and subbed for guac. The guac wasn't very good- kinda like Del Taco guac. Anyway, the consistency of my burger was weird. But, I think it was my fault. Next time I go I'm gonna see what's up with the regular Veggie Burger. For the genre of food--fast food--Baker's gets 5 stars! Food is very fresh and not greasy like your standard fast food joint. 2ND BEST fast food burger (after In-n-Out, of course) but seriously, this is the only burger I've found comparable to theirs. They use hand-leafed lettuce (I despise shredded lettuce on a burger) and use thick cheese slices. So pretty much if you want In-n-Out but you aren't currently near one, come to Baker's. Fries are always super good and never burned/overcooked. Very consistent. Ground beef and shredded beef tacos are also really good. They come with a slice of tomato in them, so cute. In-n-Out was the only fast food joint I would frequent in SoCal so I'm so glad that I now have another decent option! read more

Everytime I get a deal of the day for bean and cheese burritos, the burritos are not made right. The first time they told me to call corporate. When corporate finally called me back it was weeks later and I just let it go. The second time this happened, the manager looked in my face told me how much they were supposed to weigh, claimed she personally weighed them and said she can make me another one but it will be the same. I told her very clearly that the weight she is claiming she weighed them to be was incorrect. I am not calling myself the guardian of weights and scales. But I have been eating bakers my whole life. i left and let her know I am going home to weight it on my digital scale. I actually recorded myself weighing a burrito that was well under the weight of what she had claimed the burritos are supposed to be. I called the manager back, that was looking in my face telling me it was made right, and all she could say is she could make another one. I told he r to tell her general or district manager or the owner of the company that they need a new scale. If I ever go back, I hope they have shaped up and have quit trying to cut corners to save a penny. But this specific location is horrible, I always go through the drive thru and they never seem to understand what I'm ordering I gotta repeat myself multiple times they take forever which I don't understand why and there's times it's not even busy. Normally, I love eating from this location. But today(06-18-16 @ 7:25pm) was just an annoying experience. To start , when trying to order, the male working the drive through was mumbling and was barely audible. Then as I'm ordering, he tells me the total. I have to announce that I wasn't done ordering. Before I completed my order, I asked to make my shake the largest size they have, as well as my meal which includes the 1/2lb upgrade for fries. I pull up to the window and ask for the military discount, as I've always gotten that when visiting. He tells me they don't give discounts to military. Ok cool, whatever. He starts handing me my order. Now normally I'm not very picky, but come on. It was a simple order of fries, a burger, and shake. The shake was a tiny child sized cup. I asked why and he said that's a normal size, so... Not the largest i asked for. I check my meal, regular portion of fries as well -_- Might I add the fact that the burger was nice and cold? Usually i can understand meal screw ups during rush hour. But they were not busy at all. I was also the only vehicle in the drive thru. Still gave 2 stars due to the fact that the food, regardless of temperature, still tasted as good as every visit. Consistency in the food quality is great.
