We got there around noon right when they stopped serving breakfast which was kind of unfortunate but it was probably for the best because their lunch is amazing! We got two sandwiches one was the Turkey pesto and the other was the BL BLT and both were terrific. I think we slightly favored the Turkey pesto. We also ordered a chocolate croissant and a piece of cheesecake. The cheesecake was great but the croissant was a little dry and not very fresh. But nonetheless the overall experience was awesome! Met up with a friend and her baby on a dreary, overcast day. The sun came out after about 2 hours but with the wind, it was still a bit cool. I couldn't decide what to eat so we just got Matcha Lattes while we settled down and chatted a bit. Our Matcha Lattes were a bit too sweet. I had mine with Almond Milk and hers had regular milk but she requested vanilla syrup. I don't know if the Matchas are already sweetened like they are at Starbucks but these were too sweet. I ended up using hot water to dilute mine. After perusing the menu, I ordered a Morning Bun to go and French Fries w/the garlic aioli to eat at the restaurant. I was a little disappointed at the fries as they were limp and lukewarm. The aioli was tasty, though. Service was inconsistent as servers would serve us but not remove our order numbers that were on the table? We weren't asked if we needed our plates/cups removed so I bussed it myself and brought it up to the counter to ask where I could put them? A server took them from me when I asked her where to put them? While lounging in our Airbnb enjoying a crisp, cool morning in San Antonio, my wife and I jumped on Yelp in search of a place to eat breakfast. Bakery Lorraine had great reviews and was a short walk away, so off we went. We were greeted by nearly all the staff soon after walking in and were given recommendations on what to try by who I assume was the Manager. He highly recommended the, "Croque Madame", and while it usually isn't something I would order, I decided to give it a go. Let's just say, I'm glad I did. It was amazing. If you don't know what a Croque Madame is, it's toasted ham & cheese with a poached egg and covered in a sauce called, "mornay". The flavor is hard for me to describe but everything combined made for a delicious experience. I would, without hesitation, return here again just for that. Visiting the Pearl Historical District and decided to get dessert at Lorraine as a recommendation from the Lyft driver here. I ordered the Pistachio and Earl Grey macarons and my friend got the Chocolate Almond Croissant. The Earl Grey macaron was my favorite, it wasn't too sweet which is always a plus for me, and the tea flavor was really pronounced. Sometimes when I order Earl Grey flavored desserts the tea flavor comes out burnt, but that was not the case here. The Pistachio Macaron ended up being too sweet for my liking. The Chocolate Almond Croissant was filled with chocolate and some type of almond paste, it was definitely denser than expected so it was a little heavy for dessert. Stopped by after seeing Bakery Lorraine featured on a Visit San Antonio Instagram page. A farmer's market appeared to be going on when I arrived on a Sunday morning, so there was nowhere nearby to park. I got dropped off a took a stroll down to see all the stalls, seemed like a good variety of local artisans. Bakery Lorraine has an ordering window that I found facing the farmer's market, but later I realized there is also the option to go inside and view the full display case of all the items that they have in stock for the day. Croissant sandwich with roasted potatoes: I chose turkey for the meat. The potatoes were very oily but seasoned well, some of the bigger pieces were not quite cooked thoroughly. The egg within the sandwich was like a buttery, light omelette with a good bite. The croissant was nicely buttered. I'm not usually a fan of croissant sandwiches because the texture of the croissant can be offputting to me, but this is one croissant sandwich that has my approval. Giant chocolate chip cookie: Semi sweet chocolate chips with a buttery taste and a rough texture. I didn't think it was particularly big, but it definitely is a crunchy cookie. Definitely not a chewy cookie, not my recommendation if you're more of the chewy cakey cookie type. Earl grey macaron: Macarons are sold individually, there's no discount if you order in a box. This macaron had a good lip and the filling was buttercream and had good tea flavor. I've found it difficult to find places with this flavor of macaron, so I'd recommend giving it a try. Strawberry rose macaron: Also had a good lip. There is rose jam in the middle surrounded by strawberry buttercream. Canele: I was super excited when I saw that caneles were available here. Having gone through years of studying French, it's the first or second time that I've seen them available at any French bakery. I expected it to be bigger, but it was about the same size as the macarons. I can't say that I have a baseline to compare this to, but it was spongey throughout the middle and crispy on the outside with a bit of a burnt flavor. The texture is comparable to mochi cake. read more

The food presentation was really eye-catching. I just returned from Paris but missed trying the almond croissant. So, I came to Bakery Lorraine for a French almond croissant. However, having just tried superb French croissants at boulangeries in Paris, the one I tried here didn't quite impress me. It wasn't crunchy on the outside and extra soft on the inside. Thinking of having it reheated since I ordered this at 3 PM, heating it up might improve the quality of their croissant. However, they said that didn't happen because the food had been in the common area already. Heating it up wasn't offered for our food before they handed them to us. I commend Starbucks because they do a better job of heating up sandwiches before they are handed to the customer. This almond croissant is disappointing. The service was good, quite attentive and helpful. Customer service receives a positive feedback. Today's ambiance is better than previous visits. read more

Bakery Lorraine is an amazing patisserie shop and was absolutely fantastic. We stopped in for a quick bite and got a fruit tart and three macarons. The macarons were really tasty: Almond joy, grapefruit, and pistachio. The almond joy had that almond and chocolate flavor you know and love. The grapefruit was an essence of grapefruit which was good cause it can be a really overpowering flavor. The pistachio flavor is mostly in the creamy center but when it hits... it's so tasty. The tart was light and delicious and had a beautiful presentation of fruit and the crème flavor wasn't overly sweet. We loved the atmosphere and the overall styling of the bakery. She told me it's $5.00 for fries. I asked how much the fries were separately, and she said $5.00. That's not a substitution that's an additional charge. Then I waited 45 mins for my order, and I got the worst grilled cheese sandwich served crumbled cheese and 1 slice of bacon, it didn't even hold the bread together. Wasted my time 45 mins, and they didn't even say sorry and offer to remake it. They just refunded my order and stayed silent. Additionally, The Cellars need to find someone else to garnish their complimentary breakfast this place isn't worth funding! I walked myself to the Boiler House after this screw up. They've always served me right! I wish I had taken pics of the sandwich, but I was so pissed off that my time was wasted. I love going to this place at The Pearl. It's usually busy at this location on the weekends and it's a bit of a 15 minute wait in line to order but you know what? It's worth it. The first time I came her I ordered the tomato toast with fried egg and it is delicious and rich with tomato flavor. Not soggy at all and had a nice crisp with every bite. The second time I visited, I ordered the Turkey pesto sandwich and it is one of my favorite go to orders. Also if you have a sweet teeth, you've come to the right place. Located in the heart of the Pearl. A little bit of a coffee row as there are multiple coffee places all in row. This one stands out for it's coffee and it's food. Quite possibly the best cup of plain coffee I have had in at least 10 years. There used to be a great company in Portland that imported their coffee from Italy and it was not burnt and bitter as most coffee places are now and then try to cover up their fla BB or with sugar. I digress. This coffee is wonderful as coffee was meant to be. Even from the carafe for your second cup it's the same. Here comes a service bonus. Taking a number and then going up to get my food has always been a pet peeve of mine. Here the waiters walk around bussing and cleaning the place. Looking at your number and then claiming your number. Soon your food comes out as they are keeping an eye out for your food. For me it's the way it should be. Great food with healthy inspired ingredients and simple but elegant presentation. This was the best Avacado toast I have ever had. The egg is usually missing or an extra add on that most restaurants mess up by putting it on the side. This presentation with the lentil will be what all future Avacado Toast will be judged by. The French toast with the custard yeah that was an 11 also. No stevia available for coffee Room temperature water in a giant serving container that was is difficult to turn on/off. I know that sounds pick but that's the difference between a four and a five. You get at least cold water and sweetener that won't kill you. Still definitely a stop to be made. read more

STAY AWAY!! Regret not taking a photo!! My sister and I both ordered quiches that were way undercooked and runny on the inside...actually even noticeable on the outside. Extremely mushy! After requesting they remake it and receiving it undercooked again I asked for a refund (which they did). The manager was very rude and without him knowing I was listening, I overheard him tell kitchen staff " I'm just gonna tell them it's cooked"- this was before receiving the meal the second time. He didn't care to even inspect the quiche for himself and insisted to me that it was cooked correctly. Also never apologized! I rarely go to Bakery Lorraine in the Medical Center these days. Sometimes I want coffee and a plain croissant, but the croissants are STALE. Shouldn't that be one of BL's signature items? Also, not long ago I ordered a full breakfast. The eggs were greasy, not fluffy. For the relatively high prices BL charges, the food should be much better. Moving to SA from Hawaii later this year and had to do some coffee shop recon missions while visiting the area this week. Located in the Historic Pearl in San Antonio this little bakery is definitely a gem. I wanted a good, quality, latte and this place did not disappoint! They even have gluten-friendly items. For those of you who are not familiar with the term gluten-friendly, this applies to "gluten free" food that has been cooked/baked on shared equipment and therefore can not be advertised as "gluten free" due to the risk of cross contamination. Was it a risk for me to eat this "gluten-friendly" item; absolutely . . . but it was so delicious and thankfully I did not get a reaction from eating it though I was prepared to suffer the consequences if I did. I had the Gluten-Friendly blueberry lemon muffin and it was so delicious They even have macaroons which are naturally gluten free as they are made with almond flour. I typically bake at home from scratch and it's so hard to find good quality food I can enjoy while traveling. Coffee shops are always on my lists to check out during recon missions. In conclusion; I will definitely be back and look forward to my next visit. This little gem is definitely a plus on my upcoming move to SA later this year. Look at this cute lil pop tart esc. pastry! Very yummy, we had this, a cinnamon roll, and a lemon filled twisted muffin pastry (can't remember the name). All the staff were excellent and were able to service everyone in a timely manner. Area was clean and inviting. It is a bit more pricey than other places, but you get what you pay for here. The shop is well kept, clean, and very nice. People constantly walking in and out but could still be a great place to read, study, or work. Lots of people here for coffee or lunch meetings. I ordered a Cuban sandwich that was really good. You can taste the melted butter in the bread and whatever spread they used inside the sandwich was GREAT. the bread was warm and toasted. You could tell that my sandwich had just been made and wasn't sitting for long before it was brought to me. My wife order a small little cheese cake that was pretty good. It wasn't as fluffy as I was hoping but still pretty good. I probably would pass on it next time and get something else though. We also ordered an almond croissant that was incredible! Probably one of the best I ever had. It was crispy on the outside and the filling/paste on the inside wasn't overpowering. I'd definitely get that again. I met up with some friends here for coffee and breakfast. The pastries look amazing. I tried the kouign amann (pastry with lemon curd inside), which was yummy. I also tried a bite of the French toast, which was also yummy and reminded me of the flavor of a funnel cake. For myself, I got the decaf mocha and baked oatmeal. My mocha was good, but I thought the baked oatmeal was on the dry side and would have been better with some cream to pour over it. However, assuming it was actually a healthier dish than the pastries (not sure how much sugar was in it), it was good for a healthy dish - and it had a brown sugar layer on top that was really good, plus berries and whipped cream on top to add some flavor. I wavered between 3 and 4 stars since I didn't think the oatmeal was that great, but I'll round up since the kouign amann and French toast I tried were yummy. read more
