I came here around 12:45pm on a Monday - a short line and I got my food within 5 minutes of ordering. So far, the beef sukiyaki rice plate is my favorite dish to order because it is very flavorful. The rice soaks up the sauce which makes it even better. I decided to add a little more teriyaki on my beef. It also comes with salad lightly covered in dressing. Other times I've been here, I ordered sushi rolls and udon. The rolls are made fresh and decently priced. On the other hand, the udon does not come with a lot of noodles and it tastes cheaply made. read more

Sometimes idk why I keep spending my money here. Probably because it's just convenient for me to go here . It's just alright. The sushi is made fresh I assume but the ingredients aren't always fresh. I used to go to this place back when it was still a TuttiFruitti franchise. I never had the frozen yogurt, I only had the food haha. And clearly the owners knew this about their clientele, so they ditched the frozen yogurt and continued to sell quality food at a decent price. The poke bowl is good, as is their sushi rolls. It's not exactly gourmet, but compared to the Subway next door it's heavenly. The management is the same, as is the menu. Only the name has changed, and I'll continue to go there. read more

Don't get the salmon. All varieties are baked (not pan fried), which doesn't get rid of the wet towel/ farmed aroma. Was busy on a weekday for lunch, which I guess is good. Rice platters also get mixed greens and the worst frozen peas & corn on the side. read more

I work very close to Bak's kitchen and I can say they're pretty consistent with there food, the price is okay a tad bit overpriced but not over the top like some other places in downtown. Most of my coworkers say its decent or bad, but then again we come out hungry from work, so if we call it decent it means average if you're going out of your way to come eat here. read more

My husband and kids and I stopped here for lunch after checking out The Broad. It was wonderful! The sushi was really good and the meals were very filling, coming with salad and soup. Three of us ordered sushi plates and one ordered the chicken ramen. We all loved everybody's choices and will definitely come back, especially when we are at the Ahmanson or Mark Taper across the street. I echo what I see on other reviews, the sesame dressing on the side salad is awesome. This is a tiny place, but the food was truly delicious, a good value and a great family day. On Monday, my coworkers and I went here for lunch. When we go there, the service was mediocre, but tolerable. We ordered 4 different sushi cut rolls. Each roll came with an order of miso soup and salad. Half way thought our meal, my coworker grab another piece of lettuce and noticed that there was a little green thing moving in the dish. After close examination, we noticed it was a baby GRASSHOPPER in our meal. Naturally we were all disgusted and stopped eating. I was very upset and took the dish back in and notified the employees and walked back to our table. They did not offer to do anything for us. After a few minutes we were very upset and went back to ask for our money. The staff was unwilling to accommodate or refund us the money. They had to call the owner of the establishment so he can approve a refund. The owner was called and he asked to speak to me. When I answered the call, I told him what had happened. He DID NOT apologize for what had happened to us. He stated that he would NOT give us out refund of $41 because of the following.... he said ..1) having a grasshopper in the salad is " part of the nature of the business as they are natural things "... 2) he did not understand why I was upset as "it was just a grasshopper and NOT POISON".....3) he said we didn't deserve a refund as we didn't mind eating the meal with the grasshopper and we are only complain now that we had eaten and were already full.... He offered to refund only the one dish with the grasshopper and we were furious. The point of the the refund was not the $10 as it was not about the money. The point was the principle of the thing as the customer was given a bug/insect in their food and they refused to be apologetic or accommodate... a refund for the meal Or an apology was the least they could of done. Unless you like grasshopper as an extra source of protein, Spare yourself the headache and disgust and don't eat at this place. The owner is rude and the service is terrible. read more

Been here twice now. For a quick bite this place isn't bad at all. Their portions are good and their meals are served with green salad and miso soup. The soup FYI does not contain any tofu or seaweed, it is essentially just miso flavored water. I've ordered the creamy salmon roll and while it was tasty it bears mentioning that the salmon was EXTREMELY thinly sliced. Very skimpy serving of salmon. Kinda shady, kinda weird. And at almost 11 bucks for the roll they could be a bit more generous with it. There also is no soda machine but they do sell bottles n cans of fountain drinks tho keep in mind: no refills. The restaurant is tucked in a small plaza with a few other establishments. I've only ever walked here so I can't speak about the parking. Inside there are few tables and there is ample outside seating as well. It can get a bit packed at lunchtime so keep that in mind if ur limited on time read more

I was attending a show at the Ahmanson and shockingly there's just nothing around there that's either not obscenely expensive or, for me, just a bore, food-wise, and that includes Kendall's and Pinot, neither of which I'm fond. So, I knew there was the Subway at 1st and Hope so I walked over there. I noticed Bak's and thought, "Why not?" So, in I went and I ordered chicken teriyaki and two shrimp tempura. Cost of the teriyaki - nine bucks. Can't beat that. It looked really strange, as I've never seen chicken teriyaki with little veggies like corn and peas, but I tasted it and was happily surprised at how tasty it was and there was a lot of it, I must say. There was a squeeze bottle of the sauce, which I used repeatedly - that's how good it was. Despite what I'm reading in some "reviews" here, everything seemed very fresh, including the rice. It was filling and fine and I would return for sure. I recommend Bak's and as you all know, I am the only person on Yelp you should ever listen to. read more

Living in downtown L.A. is great and I'm always on the lookout for authentic cuisines. Bak's is close and I love their menu, a great sushi menu, ramen, and terriaki. My first experience there was trying their spicy tuna salad. It was okay, nothing very exciting about it and I was a little confused when the spicy tuna just looked liked mushed-up fish with some chili sauce in it. My second experience there (yea, I'm a glutton for punishment) was the teriyaki chicken plate. I was less than impressed. First of all, if you're going to market your business as a purveyor of a specific food (terriaki) you should probably know how to make it really well. These guys either had temp cooks or they were handed one of the crappiest recipes for terriaki I have ever tasted. Coworkers and I decided to give this place a try knowing yelp review is 3.5 stars. We ordered 4 dishes of rolls. Each roll dish comes with salad and a miso soup. Food was actually not bad. Coworkers liked them, although I personally think the fish wasn't fresh enough, especially the volcano roll (recommend NOT to order). Coworkers were thinking this place is worth a 4-5 stars, and we were happy that we have found a close decent sushi place for lunch. We almost finished eating. On the bottom of the salad pile, we noticed a little green moving thing... it's a grasshopper!!! A coworker brought the dish to the waiter. The waiter called the "boss" on the phone. He totally gave my coworker an attitude, as if it's our fault. We weren't going to ask for refund or a free dish, but the owners attitude ruined everything. This genius owner just totally pushed away potential customers. We will never visit this place again, so won't our coworkers. read more

Walked in today to order some to-go sushi rolls, I ordered the salmon, the eel with cucumber and the veggie. I don't know how all three were impossible to eat with chopsticks, they literally fell apart the moment I picked them up. The veggie one has the same salad you get as a side plus some cucumbers and some avocado and it is rolled so big and sliced so thin that it's literally impossible to eat in one bite, plus it falls apart, the salad falls out of the roll. The salmon didn't taste like anything. It is cheap, true, but will not be returning. I like being able to eat my food without making a mess, and I guess you get what you pay for. read more

Second time, I got the Beef (Fat) Sukiyaki. The Chicken Teriyaki was tasteless. I am not even sure how they can consider this Chicken. Has the consistency of rubber with ZERO flavor. Filled with peas and corn as well? WTF? As for the beef, it would be great if I ordered FAT only. Had very little meat and what was in there really sucked. It was my first time there after getting my nails done next door; they served my food pretty quickly. I ordered the Almond Chicken Salad and it was very delicious and tasty, the chicken was soft and very good. The combination of almonds and avocado in my salad made it very tasty and delicious. Im sorry to disagree with my fellow yelpers rave reviews.....I tried this restaurant because I had a long court recess, anyhow I really love teriyaki and looking at the line, I assumed it was going to be great! Wrong.....I got the beef sukiyaki and there ratio of fat to meat was incredible I literally had a couple of pieces of meat and the rest was ALL FAT, the taste wasn't too good either....this is a review ONLY for the beef sukiyaki, did not have anything else from this place, sorry to say, I will not be returning to try anything else. read more
