Baldinos is absolutely my favorite submarine sandwich. When I see one and I'm hungry I just HAVE to stop. This little shop was somewhat run down and aged but I decided to try it because I'd made a special U turn to go back for a sandwich. The lady taking the orders was really terrible in a customer service role and made me feel like I was inconveniencing her by being there. She couldn't even be bothered to hand us our soda cups, I had to ask, then help myself by pulling them off a stack. I ordered my whole Sicilian sub and got it the way I love it - "The Baldino's Way" Plus mayo, mustard, and hot peppers. The young guy making my sandwich did a good job and was friendly. My sub was the same fantastic sandwich that I've come to love, but the quality of the order taker could use a huge improvement. I always stop here on my way home from the beach & as soon as I came in, there was a very RUDE man behind the counter & he tried to tell me I didn't have any shoes on like I would walk into that particular place with no shoes, I've been there countless times before & as their food is A+, their appearance looks otherwise. This Baldino's location only had two stars, but I normally like Baldino's, so I threw caution into the wind. Long line on arrival, but orders were taken quickly. Getting my order was another story. Italian Battalion with mayo, mustard, salt, pepper, oil, vinegar. Finally got my sandwich to go, ate on the road while headed back to work. Heavily over-salted and over-peppered. Got caught up at the train crossing, so I grabbed a napkin and wiped away most of the mayo and mustard since it was holding the salt and pepper, now making sandwich edible. I give this place two and a half stars. The deli looks pretty dirty and I was hesitant on ordering anything. My honey was hungry and ordered a cheesesteak and convinced me to order a bambino sandwich. The taste factor was not bad. It was better then subway actually. My turkey had an odd color to it like it was boiled before they put it through the slicer. Presentation wise it was not very appealing. If I could rate NEGATIVE stars I would! First of all let me say I've been to many Baldinos chains before and I love their sandwiches and I have never had a problem before today. I walked into this location in Garden city and was the only customer inside. The woman behind the counter just stared at me as I walked down the counter looking at the menu before saying loudly "uh Ma'am, what are you doing?" Obviously I was trying to order. But I smiled and said that I was looking at the menu. I understand everything is now different due to coronavirus and having to stay 6-feet apart but her tone and rudeness was just the beginning. After I told her I was looking at the menu before she cut me off and told me where I needed to stand to order. I should have left right then. After a couple of minutes she asked what she could get for me and before I was able to answer she asked the question again as if I didn't answer fast enough. I told her the sandwich I wanted to order and asked if they had Italian bread. Then the woman said "yeh this is Italian bread I got out for you already" I replied asking if I could try a wheat instead and she told me "this is wheat" in such a snappy, nasty tone. Confused bc she just told me that was Italian. It was obvious that she was having a horrible day and hated her job and didn't give two craps about anyone but being a complete a**hole. So finally I had had enough. I told her "you know what I don't think I like your attitude and you most definitely need to work on your customer service skills." I have had great subs from this place, but look around before you place the order. It is the slimiest scum hole on the face of the earth. Its run by an Indian Owner that will tell you to never come back again because I told her I wanted pickles and since they were making it and said that, I didn`t pay for the pickles, that, I had to ask the Nazi Owner and she wouldn't put the lousy pickles on my sandwich and she is the one that can`t understand English and take the order wrong. I have been a LOYAL Baldinos customer for over 25 years and will remain a staunch supporter, but the Garden City Baldinos needs to be completely demolished and rebuilt. It's a filthy Petri Dish, that's in need of a CDC intervention. The Baldinos sandwiches are the best around....hands down, and this sandwich was no exception, but the place was deplorable. I would rather eat their sandwich in a steaming hot Port-O-Let after a St Patrick's Day River Street Festival, than eat in that nasty hole again. The floors, the tables, the cabinets, the drink machines, the windows, the doors and the bathrooms were the most disgusting things that I have ever seen in over 40 years.
