Our server was extremely nice, he gave us menu recommendations along with information on what was around the area. The food was great. The ambiance was beautiful, you see boats out the window as you eat. They also offer valet parking.

(+) American Breakfast (+) The Cali burrito (+) Great coffee (Americano, cappuccino) (+) Service BALEEN kitchen is a restaurant on the marina apart of the Portofino Hotel dining options. This restaurant is opened for breakfast/brunch and then reopen at 4 for their dinner menu. The views of the ocean and ambiance are what attract people here, but the food is what will bring me back. Parking is validated by the restaurant if you're not staying at the hotel. Food/Drinks: My wife and brother loved the American breakfast. Without holding expectations, they were thoroughly surprised with each aspect of the meal. The new potatoes had a crispy exterior but warm and steamy interior. The arugula salad was sprinkled with lemon and tasted great with the eggs. The lemon pancakes and cali burrito were also a hit. Great tasting American options were brought to life! We also loved their coffee and how well prepared the drinks were served. My latte was delicious and also had great milk latte art. We appreciate those small things. Service/Ambiance: Talk about no better view than the one here. The ocean is beautiful and can be enjoyed here. The servers are great and helped us each step of the way. I don't expect much quality and taste from a hotel breakfast spot, but BALEEN kitchen has set my expectations high. It was a nice surprise and excited to return one day.

Another wonderful visit to Baleen. We did stay at the Portofino for a number of nights (we come here a few times a year now). Room service is always wonderful and the food comes from Baleen Kitchen. So I can attest to great coffee, fresh pastries and almost all of the breakfast choices. This day we enjoyed brunch outside at Baleen's. It was a beautiful setting with excellent service and very comfortable. We enjoyed the crabcake benedict, Huevos 'Redondos', Chia Pudding, and American Breakfast with bacon. The benedict was absolutely delicious and a special treat, the Huevos 'Redondos' was so very flavorful, and the American Breakfast is always a fan favorite. The breakfast potatoes are some of the best you will find. The portions are perfect, enough to fill your tummy. Enjoy the food, enjoy the scenery, enjoy the service! Sometimes food and service will be second when seeking out a marina type restaurant, but not here. They all three will put a smile on your face. Get out of the city, get to the beach for some ocean therapy and good food!

Had a really good breakfast at Baleen Kitchen inside the Portofino Hotel in Redondo Beach. The marina views are hard to beat, especially on a nice morning, and the whole place has a relaxed vibe. We had the Coffee-Rubbed Skirt Steak & Eggs and it was excellent. The steak was cooked a perfect medium rare, super flavorful, and paired great with the over easy eggs and potatoes. Definitely something I'd order again. We also had the Smoked Salmon & Bagel, and that was just as good. Quality smoked salmon with chive cream cheese, caper berries, red onion, arugula, and shaved cucumber. Really fresh flavors and everything worked well together. Service was friendly and attentive without being over the top. Baleen is one of those spots that's great for a laid-back breakfast with a view. Always a solid choice in Redondo Beach.

I am always happy to come by Baleens for a girls brunch. It's just a cute vibe really. I love the colors and the oceanic theme. The food is also good- but the portions have been way cut down for the prices they're charging. Service was good. He did everything we asked for but I wouldn't necessarily say they were super friendly.

Alex's breakfast burrito isn't half as good as the old Cali burrito they had, which was the best breakfast burrito I'd found in So Cal. The bloody Mary was still OK but the loud musician in the lounge made brunch conversation all but impossible. I asked our server if he could help, to no avail. A longtime fave, I hope Baleen bounces back. At least it still has the pleasing marina views.

Cute classy with a view. Very helpful service with great recommendations. Servers are on it with everything we need. Didn't have to ask for a thing. The food looks just like the online photos. Beautifully plated and great portion sizes. Very rich and fresh flavor. We'll be back. This would be a great place to take a first date, anniversary, or romantic birthday dinner.

Located next to Redondo beach, this is a nice spot to have drinks, catch up with friends, eat some nice food, and soak in the views Parking There is free valet parking! Ambiance/Service (5/5) Gorgeous views, great cozy atmosphere, and attentive service Food Rock Shrimp Tacos (2.5/5) Served with 2 heaping tempura shrimp tacos and a large slab of avocado, cabbage, slightly spicy salsa, and chips This was definitely a ok choice. I couldn't really taste the freshness of the shrimp taco, and I wouldn't say this was a pretty decent portion for the price of it. Overall, underwhelming but did the job. Pancakes with a blueberry cream (3.5/5) 2 stacks of pancakes with a nice cream and syrup. Can't go wrong! Very decent. Overall, the views and service made this experience.

It's always an amazing experience here. The service is always great. The food is always good. You can't beat the view of the Marina and it is reasonably priced for the portions you get. Looking forward to going back.

BALEEN kitchen is amazing! I cancelled my Friday dinner reservation and decided to eat somewhere else. However, Saturday night we decided to have dinner here (with no prior reservation) they seated us in the lounge/ bar area where there was live entertainment! I celebrated my birthday early and they gave us complimentary champagne for a toast, like how friggin cute! Ethan and Carla were so attentive and made sure everything was perfect through the night. Sunday morning, we had breakfast/ brunch here also and the Lemon mascarpone pancakes were DELISH! My husband got the Cali Burrito (forgive me if that was wrong) but we kept telling each how perfectly cooked that burrito was! Literally one of the BEST we've ever had! Overall, the entire experience for both dinner and brunch were sooo good! We cannot wait to come back for more meals!

We ate here because AmEx benefits gave us $100 credit for staying at the Portofino Hotel. We enjoyed this place because they had a warm inviting space with breezy relaxing decor and a great view of the marina, both a warm host and friendly and accommodating server. And lastly, the food was super enjoyable. I asked the host what she liked and the salmon bagel was one of her picks. I don't usually order a bagel for brunch but I was curious and boy was I ever happy with my choice! A platter of yummy veggies, fresh salmon, very tasty cream cheese and a tasty bagel! I was pretty satisfied with this choice! See pic below! Hubs got the lemon pistachio pancakes which were very fluffy and yummy and kiddo got eggs Benedict. All three of us enjoyed our meals! And since it was pie day we ordered a pie of key lime pie! Very tasty, not overly sweet. A great, relaxing experience and when we walked by at night the previous night a lively, hopping place with music.

The Baleen Kitchen is a hidden gem. Tucked away in the King Harbor Marina near The Portofino Hotel this iconic restaurant is a definite treat. While it is a little off the beaten path, it's definitely worth the trip. My wife and I have stayed at the Portofino Hotel on multiple occasions and this is always our go to breakfast spot when we stay there. Service is always friendly and the restaurant has beautiful views of the harbor. Because it's tucked away it's nice and quiet in the area and can easily make you forget that you're just minutes away from bustling LA. They have a modest menu that feels like it's just the right size for the establishment. I'm a fan of the more modest menus that are well executed rather than large exhaustive menus of mediocre food. This place hits the mark. I do also like that because it's further off the beaten path ice never seen it extremely busy the way one would expect a restaurant of that caliber to be in a place like LA. Overall a great experience and a must try. Atmosphere: 5/5 Service: 5/5 Food: 5/5 Value: 5/5 Total: 5/5 Price: $ Rating Criteria: 1/5: Terrible, would not recommend 2/5: Might be worth it depending on price and other factors. 3/5: Solid option. We were staying at the hotel and decided to have dinner at the restaurant. We enjoyed a few fun cocktails with some flatbreads, but our dinners were the star of the show! I opted for the shrimp tacos. They were crispy and the combo of guacamole and slaw on top added to the flavor burst the tacos provided. My husband ordered the pork chop and he said it was cooked to perfection! The view was nice and the staff were great! If you are staying at the hotel...or not... check this place out! You will not be disappointed!

The food is just delicious! Some dishes are regular. Some are new, often creative and flavorful. They keep it interesting and novel with new dishes. My favorites are the focaccia bread, prawns (new), ceviche, maple apple salad, prawn pasta, and steak frites. The steak and fries are really something special! Jason and his Team are excellent! Good service. Friendly and warm. As a South Bay native, Jason captures the local vibe of being friendly, chill (80s slang), and polite. His Team is the same, and I like it! I also notice that if a couple wants more quiet time, they catch the pulse and give more space. That's called reading the room! After a meal here, I always walk away thinking "man, another hit. So good!" And, the wife loves it too!

We opted for a few small dishes to share, including: - Kanpachi ceviche (4/5) very light and refreshing. Wish there were more of the fish, though - Sugar cube melon and lemon cucumber salad (5/5) super ripe cantaloupe and plenty of zing in every bite. My favorite dish! - Hand rolled spaghetti (3.5/5) it was a pesto spaghetti dish that was very flavorful, but I wasn't blown away by the handmade spaghetti: it could've been more al dente and the sauce didn't really taste like pesto; I tasted mostly lemon. A bit overly salty, too - Smoked and 1/2 fried chicken (3.5/5) the chicken was beautiful fried, with a thin yet hardy crackling interior that I hadn't quite had before in fried chicken. Sauce was sweet in its soy sauce base, but some cuts of meat were on the dry side - Coffee toffee pudding (3/5) probably the weakest of the bunch: we waited 8-10 minutes for it (as advertised), and it came in...a mug?? Not the most beautifully-presented, and overall, I did not get a lot of the pudding inside, mostly the toppings. Given that it's $12 for otherwise a microwavable dessert, it was disappointing - Chocolate flan (5/5) now this hit the spot! Honestly, it didn't even taste like flan, but rather a very smooth cheesecake. We're glad we added it on at the last minute! Overall, plenty of punchy flavors and innovative dishes that change monthly. However, the price point ($33+) per dish for such small plates is a bit much, but I can see myself returning for special occasions (and their breakfast burritos)!

We waited 15 minutes, but to his credit, he hustled a table together for us. Thus began an excruciatingly slow meal that involved a good 20 minutes' difference between the appearance of the first entrees and the last. I can't fault the server, who was literally the only one waiting on all the tables, both inside and out. The fact that anyone got fed is something of a miracle, frankly, and all due to that one server working frantically the whole time. At some point, a young woman materialized who did some light bussing. Weirdly, there was a young man who sat at the bar the entire time, except on the rare occasion when he'd saunter out and wipe down a table, only to return to his barstool. All this time, the server did the vast majority of the work and somehow managed to stay polite and even-tempered through it all. The food was fine, but nothing to write home about. Mostly, we were all just so very weary with waiting and waiting. We had 2 young kids with us, and we didn't leave until 2 hours and 15 minutes after our reservation time. Maybe it was an exceptionally bad night when 2 servers called in sick, because it was crazy to expect one person to cover all those tables. But it seems like a very poorly run place.
