I came here on a whim after First Wok refused to answer their phone after a few tries. The man who answered the phone was very nice and had a gentle, soothing voice. As he guided me through my order I never felt more confident in my choice of General Tsos chicken to which I initially had my heart set on when I called First Wok. The food came in a timely manner, looked incredible and tasted even better. I ordered a hot and sour soup with my meal and that exceeded my expectations as well because not only was it delicious but it was also piping hot like a soup should be. This place is exactly what you expect it to be-- drive thru Asian. It's great for those nights you want something quick. They also accept Five Star rewards, which is nice. After one trip I unlocked a free appetizer. I love that you can get ramen noodles in a veggie stir fry. Egg rolls are kind of strange, but somehow still pretty good. Give it a shot. read more

I'ma start off by saying first, if I could give lower than one star I would , I came from Buda Texas and they did get our entrees correct but we ordered 6 extra egg rolls and they even reassured us that all of the food was in a tiny bag that they had gave us. Not to mention how rude the manager was about the situation as if we were lying. After giving them our phone number I returned the next day to retrieve the egg rolls they didn't give us after waiting 18 minutes I asked what was going on and he replied rudely 5 more minutes hold on. The food there is absolutely great but the service is absolutely horrible do not order from this place unless you expect to be talking to and get food you ordered not in the bag not to mention they did not try to compensate anything extra in fact they made it seem like it was our fault. read more

Apparently somehow someway my order got screwed up online. The place has customer service and they're willing to replace my order free of charge. That's not something you see these days. With sunshine in full blast outside, this Bamboo Bistro has all the shade down and light all on. It's kind of a cozy and cool environment. Quality of food is generally high and portions are large enough for male big eaters. Pad Thai noodle is firm and chewy with abundant flavors of Thai cuisine, 5 stars. Thai basil fried rice is bit of a letdown as basil is barely there and meat aplenty 4 stars. Chicken fried rice for kid is a big plate but nothing to write yelp about, 3stars ?. Overall the dishes should have more veggies. There were some nice looking dishes on the screen inside the bistro as well as green tea ice cream but we were too full already. This is great place to get some spicy thai soup. Delivery was quick for me. Last time I went in to eat the restaurant was clean and the workers in the back where very busy yet still found time to give me warm welcoming..I have to say I respect that about this south Austin Store. I always tip the drivers and cashiers because I they work hard to please 'unhappy customers' They deserve 5 stars because Austin TX is full of unhappy people who are always looking for a reason to complain. Their delivery service was quick and I had my Spicy Thai soup on time and it hit the spot this time of year. I would recommend Bamboo Bistro to anybody looking for Good quality Chinese Thai food. This was a great neighborhood find. The Thai Dumplings were very tasty. Our entrees of Teriyaki Beef and Cashew Chicken were fresh and very well done. Service staff was friendly and helpful. I've ordered from here probably 10 times over the last 10 months, both delivery and drive through. I've always liked my food I've tried a decent amount of the menu. Austin isn't a great place for Chinese food but Bamboo Bistro is several notches above most of their competition. read more

My wife and I went in kamakazi style when it opened in our neighborhood. That's what I call going to a restaurant without checking yelp. The food is amazing. The price and portion sizes are appropriate. The interior is stylish and nicely decorated, but not too over done. Update. Over a year later and they are consistently good. I ordered the sweet and sour chicken with fried rice and vegetable egg roll. I was not impressed. The chicken appeared to have been cooked in old oil. It tasted overcooked. The vegetable egg roll was the opposite- it tasted undercooked and doughy on the inside. The rice was okay but nothing special. I've definitely had better. The food here is not good. Spring rolls have shrimp and iceberg lettuce only. The peanut sauce served with them smelled spoiled. For one of my dishes I ordered chicken, but they gave me beef. The other dish was supposed to be Szechuan tofu, but was nothing like any Szechuan dish I've ever had. It was overly sweet and strangely sour. The Thai soup consisted of broth with 3 sliced mushrooms in it. Wow. Super unimpressed. Not sure what I was thinking it would be, but definitely thought it would be better than this with all of the 4 star reviews. read more

Something is going wrong at this once fine Asian restaurant. Last few times I have had delivery from them and the food has arrived cold. There's nothing worse that tepid soup., Today we orded Thai Yellow chicken curry with extra veggies... It came with a whole lot of veggies but between myself and my lovely partner we were only able to find a single thin piece of "sliced processed" chicken.... Huge disappointment. I think in the future I will only order their "Thai Basil spicy Wings" which is their only redeeming dish... I probably won't order dinner with them again... read more

This is one of my favorite Chinese restaurants in south Austin. The food is delicious and they are always so friendly. I had an problem with my delivery order from them that was an issue with the Yelp Eat24 app. I didn't realize the app and chosen both my dishes to be cooked gluten free. I called Bamboo and they were very nice and understanding about the mix up and replaced my order for me. The sesame chicken, General Tso and Orange chicken are favorites in my household. The worst Chinese we've ever had. We travel a lot for work and love supporting the local small businesses wherever we go, but this was awful. The food did arrive hot and well packaged, not the fried rice was tasteless, no vegetables and over cooked . The Szechuan beef was sweetened (which was unusual), but to the point of being inedible, the vegetable spring rolls were filled with rice noodles and served with watered down peanut sauce. As an Asian Bay Area transplant, I have NOT been pleased with the lack of good Asian food of any cuisine in Austin! & this place added insult to injury. At first I was so excited to see a highly rated Asian restaurant with a drive-thru no less! Then... I got my food. I ordered a simple veggie lo mein with fresh tofu & the result was atrocious. It tasted like Americanized mall food or worse. They used cheap fat egg noodles of the Panda Express quality, my tofu tasted off, & the sauce was so inauthentic & unpleasant. Certainly not worth the money. Blech, never again! The Asian girl at the window should be ashamed to be representing such a place. read more

If mall Chinese is a one-star, this is just above that. The pad Thai is a Chinese interpretation. The General Tso was unnaturally(?) tasty. The kids portions were a bit small. The water pressure in the men's bathroom sink was low and it took for ever to wash my hands. Nothing was "Wow!". read more

I was pretty impressed with the quality of the food at this place. I ordered the sesame chicken and the chicken teryaki and was really pleased with both the protein and the fried rice that I got. I used the drive through and didn't go inside so I can' say anything about the interior of the restaurant but I was pretty impressed with how quickly I was served and how nice all of the employees were. And the pricing is pretty reasonable. This is a great Panda Express alternative for sure. read more

This place rocks my socks every time I go. I have tried several items on the menu now and everything is fabulous. At ten bucks or less each visit and servings large enough to ensure leftovers, it's worth every penny. Also, the staff are super friendly and genuinely want you to enjoy the experience. So happy they moved into our hood! We really needed a good Asian takeout joint. Thai wontons are perfectly fried, not greasy like most and have generous amounts of quality chicken. Sauces are tasty, veg seems fresh not frozen, and could that be freshly prepped tofu?? Thai soup was Thai hot, proceed with caution!
