I finally got the chance to visit Bamboo despite many failed attempts previously. The salon is very clean, quiet and I truly adored the decor. I was walking by and decided to stop in for a manicure. The Japanese lady who helped me was really taking her time even though they were close to closing time- I did not feel rushed at all to leave. Their salon chairs were sooo comfortable that I was literally falling asleep as I was waiting for my nails to dry. $20.00 for a manicure -- pricey compared to others but worth it for the environment. read more

This place is nothing short of amazing. My masseur has provided the best deep tissue massage. He knows pressure points and how to release all the stresses in my body. Just thinking about it makes me want it again. I've only been here a couple of times and I'll sure be back. I'm glad they had the January special which let me try the place out. I was looking to get my nails done in the Marina and have always had horrible experiences with places there, they tend to be fast and not detail oriented. So I went to Yelp and found this place. It was a gorgeous SF day so I didn't feel like waiting in line which is why I didn't go to the place I always go near my house, Bella Linda which I have to say is amazing at doing nails but always busy and doesn't take appointments. Bamboo is very quiet and soothing, it was away from the noisy part of Union and had a zen feel to it. I was able to sit right away and they asked if I wanted water or tea. So far great experience. I had two girls working on me, one on feet and one on hands. The one doing the manicure left a lot of cuticles behind, I had to point it out to her and ask her to clean it up, that was annoying to me, instead of relaxing I had to monitor. The pedicure seemed a bit rushed to me, she was very fast on the cuticles, the massage was almost non existent and she didn't really scrub the bottom of my feet like I'm used to, it's sandals season so yes they need a good scrubbing. While I was drying my nails, I realized that she left my old dark nail polish behind on my manicure and the natural polish I picked looked messy, whey I asked her to fix it she said the polish was on my nail, so she was trying not to redo it. Really? I had to insist on it being redone on two nails, again no attention to details. So now I go to pay, and the total was $55 for pedi/mani. Sure I never asked how much it was, but the going rate in SF is $35 unless you're going to some full service salon and overpaying. I didn't get gel, it was regular mani pedi and given there was no special services or massage I felt like I just overpaid. read more

Lovely space and quiet place with great staff. Unfortunately two stars goes to management for the way they handled a gel manicure that completely fell off. I'd never asked for a refund for a manicure before but with the gel falling off my nails in whole pieces (meaning the entire nail would lift and fall off) I felt it warranted a full refund. The first finger which happened within 48 hours of the manicure I came back to the salon and had them fix it. The next three that fell off I decided this product must be faulty and it's best to just get a refund for the service (and I wanted to let them know that perhaps the polish has gone bad... never had this happen in 10 years of gel manicures). It took several several calls, and arguments, to get to the point of 50% of a refund. They still won't give me a refund in full. Yikes! Customer lost. read more

I agree with many of the other 4-star Yelpers about Bamboo. What a wonderful surprise! Shhhh don't tell anyone. I was excited to find a new place to pamper myself in my neighborhood. It's always great to find new gems after living somewhere for many years...Bamboo is what Lush Life Nail Bar on Fillmore wanted to be but could never quite accomplish. You're not paying for a mani/pedi that's better than anywhere else, but rather for a quiet, immaculate, smells-delicious-and-non-chemically salon/spa where you might feel as if you're on vacation vs. at home in SF. They serve good quality teas to enjoy, too. I also treated myself to a 15min shoulder/neck massage and it was fantastic! This is a great place for when you want to truly treat yourself and aren't in a rush: they take the time to pamper you and I found it 100% worth the extra money. Yahoo for Bamboo...! read more

It's a beautiful zen-serene atmosphere where you can truly relax while you get your nails done. It's a cell phone free environment, which at first you may feel as though you have lost your right arm but would you really want to hear the lady next to you yappin' away. I love the service and attention to detail that the Japanese manicurists give and the place is immaculately clean. The scrub and extra massage are well appreciated by my toes, and they always use brand new scrubbers and files that they open right in front of you. I walked past their break room on the way to the restroom and it was spotless and perfectly orderly. It's good that they keep the beautiful appearance up front and as well as the back. I highly recommend this place, it's hard for me to go anywhere else! read more

So disappointed to rate this salon that had looked to be a promising go to for mani/ pedi. I had a manicure and pedicure, the pedicure is what the 1 star review relates to. After the pedicure I noticed immediately both soles of my feet had these scratches / cuts in the arch area (see pictures). Upon returning home I looked and found indeed BOTH my feet have numerous scratches / cuts around the arch area and along cuticles. I immediately disinfected and applied antibacterial ointment. Being pregnant my OB is concerned about possible exposure to bacteria via these cuts (which happened either with the pumice, callous board and cuticle scissors they used. PLEASE use caution when having ANY SERVICES at this salon. read more

I've been going to Bamboo for the last few months. It's always been a decent experience - it's nice and quiet, you can usually get a reservation pretty easily, and they do a good job for the most part. It's not cheap ($75 for a gel manicure + pedicure) and there isn't a lot of massage, but it's usually fine. However, their service is not the best. I tolerated this for a while but after the last experience there, I'll never go back. My friend booked a manicure/pedicure and a gel manicure. When the owner found out that we actually wanted two gel manicures and a pedicure, she freaked out. She repeatedly said "no, you booked a normal manicure" and said that gel would take too long. It's not like they were at full capacity - there were empty chairs. We later saw 3 manicurists finish with clients while we were still there, and stand around chatting because they were idle. NOT the way that you treat repeat customers. Also, more minor but still annoying - I was offered water by the owner when I walked in, but it never came. After asking for it twice, it still didn't come. Meanwhile, the owner was just sitting around doing nothing. Never again! read more

Here's what you should know. if you have any experience with mass market mani/pedis you know the following. There are really 2 types: 1) Cheap, churn style - wham bam strip mall types 2) Spa Style, expensive 'experience' type. Both of them cut/shape your nails, give you a hand/foot massage and send you on your way. Spa mani/pedis cost you a fortune, don't do a much better job but you get to sit somewhere clean and nice and get some attention. The strip mall types are the exact opposite. Bamboo is a great balance of the two. You have the ability to book at the last minute/walk in and be given the time and attention that you deserve. The prices are super-reasonable give the location and staff. Per usual - I am pretty picky.. I think this place is pretty good all things considered. CLEAN and COMFORTABLE Did I mention that it's super clean? I needed a nail salon that was quiet. I needed a place that did not rush me. Bamboo is THE place. Sure it's not the cheapest nail salon place in the Marina. But it is the cleanest. Their mani/pedi lasts a lot longer than some other places that cost half the price. They always use a new buffer and filer for each client. You get to take those home if you want. The massages are absolutely refreshing. The scrubs and lotions they use on your feet and arms are SO relaxing. The lavender smell was soothing too. (I fell asleep at one point...zzzzzzz) The nail technicians are very meticulous and take their time. They don't chit chat and there is no cell phone use AT ALL. However, during my quiet time, there was a client that used his phone. No one said anything.... hmmmm...I was a little disappointed. Overall, I still recommend this place if you don't mind forking out a little more for the peace and quiet with green tea. It is about 1 week and my nails still look good. Yeah! read more

My friend booked a bunch of us here for a group nail "event" and though the decor is relaxing and the actual staff friendly and nice, we had some really bad experiences. First off, they never clarified with my friend that everyone in our reservation had to have manicures and pedicures, so when my little sister told them she just wanted her nails done, the manager came out and began interrogating her almost to the point of tears. When my friend verified that we never confirmed both manis and pedis, they never apologized. Second to that, half of us walked away with manicures that left us with peeling cuticles days later....the worst we'd ever experienced and nothing we'd ever seen post-manicure. A week later my nails look worse than they ever have. I wonder about their techniques, I am saddened by their management and I would never return. read more

I am writing this review after approximately 4 visits with this salon, and in a city with hundreds of choices to get one's nails done. The first time I visited the salon the receptionist called me and curtly asked where I was, that I was late. After looking at my watch, which was( in their opinion) 5 minutes slow, I explained that I was literally a few storefronts away and that our watches were apparently not in sync. They were not happy that I was 5 minutes late by their clock, and let me know when I walked in still on the phone with them. I thought this attitude to be slightly anal- retentive The second time I visited I asked if it was possible to add on a manicure to my already scheduled pedicure. I had also picked out a polish used to do Nail Art and the technician they had assigned for me did not do that but they were not able to accommodate either an additional service or a different technician. BTW, the salon was half full The third time I brought my sleeping infant without any incident other than I observed two obnoxious apporoximate 7 year olds digging in the jelly bean bowl. The fourth time I arrived to the salon again with my sleeping baby, whose dad was 10 minutes away from picking him up. At the front door I was strictly told that no babies were allowed, which was stated on their pamphlet, and that I would not be allowed to begin my service with the baby, or wait 10 minutes for his dad to get him! Basically they just flat out refused me, and were not sympathetic at all. So, I guess I kept returning because I did like the way my nails looked however, the salon manager or whoever, is basically unaccommodating in every way. Their attitude towards babies (remember there were obnoxious kids allowed) stinks too. I guess I just couldn't believe they flat out refused to give me my appointment even with the baby short term. I just think it's stupid, and they don't mention what happens if you bring your dog-in-a-bag who starts yapping, which is equally more distracting. read more

I has a massage and facial here and was disappointed in both. Facial was the worst. The woman just mindlessly rubbed bland creams on my face and then left the room for at least 10 min. No massage at all during the facial. They usually always massage at least your neck and shoulders. The woman did not say one word to me the entire time. I don't like to chat but there was no explanation of what we happening and she never asked if I was ok. Dead silence the whole time. I felt like she had never done a facial before. The massage was a little better, but not much. I told the woman and showed her that my foot and ankle were injured and she was still really rough. I left feeling like I had paid a lot for crappy services. Maybe it's more of a mani/pedi place. read more

I got a pedicure here and the next day I looked as if I'd fought a war barefoot... OK, that might be a slight exaggeration, but my left foot had a cut on one toe where she cut me while removing my cuticle and the entire side of my foot had a scab because the pedicurist scraped the skin off of the ENTIRE side of my foot in one hard, miscalculated swoop of her exfoliating wand. I left the salon BLEEDING out of my toe and with SKIN MISSING from the entire side of my foot! For real! (not exaggerating on this part) This was especially annoying because I was going on vacation the next day and half of the sandals I brought had to be set aside as as my wounds healed because their straps rubbed against my scabs. And they didn't even do a good job exfoliating where I did have rough skin on the bottom of my foot. But, at least neither of my cuts got infected, so their instruments must be clean (trying to look on the bright side of things!) I'm really not kidding here. Eveyone who I showed my foot to gasped and said I should call and get my money back. read more

Since my regular nail salon went out of business, I'm on the prowl for a replacement. I gave Bamboo a try because it's well reviewed and conveniently located for me. Overall, I'm pleased with the experience. I received a very solid manipedi. The technicians both had very good attention to detail - no little mistakes to touch up at home afterward. And I chose a dark color which is more difficult to apply. The massage felt very relaxing and I was happy that the lotion was warmed but didn't have a strong scent. The level of sanitation is excellent. They use nice wooden tubs to soak your feet - no scary whirling "footspas". And the files are not reused - hooray! I usually bring my own polish, but they have OPI and Essie on hand. And I was happy to see they also stock Zoya (big 3 free), but the color selection could be better. Minus one star because I feel the service is overpriced for what it is. I don't mind paying $55 for a manipedi, but when you can get just as nice of a service for $40 elsewhere, I expect something extra for the price point. read more

Great place to get facials. A euro facial is 60 bucks and well worth it. Coco, who is the owner and the one that does the facials is amazing. Bamboo is a great little place to get a pedicure. Although slightly pricey, it is not at the level of a day spa. However it is much nicer than the random little pedicure places sprinkled throughout the city. With that said, they do an AWESOME job on their pedicures. It is a great place when you feel the need for some extra pampering and don't mind the extra cost. The place is clean and relaxing. The chairs are huge and comfy. This has been my go to nail salon for over twelve years but today I realized we needed to break up. I was willing to swallow the $70 fee for a mani pedi because I love the space and all the people that work there. They let you sit and dry in comfortable chairs for 20 to 30 minutes after your nails are done. It was calm and relaxing and never rushed. I walked out feeling refreshed. Today my mani pedi barely took 45 min and not 5 minutes later I was asked to vacate my chair for the next person. I was moved to an uncomfortable chair without the hand dryer turned on and some of my stuff left behind so I had to grab it myself. This is the second time this has happened to me since Coco sold the salon and I realized that its just not the same without her. I'm dating the memory and not the reality. A super relaxing and high end nail salon experience. They use great products, techs are sweet and communicative and know how to take care of nails. It's clean and beautiful and they treat their techs well, which is a rarity in most nail salons. If you want cheap, unethical nails, go somewhere else! This review is for the Massage Therapist - Shino! I went here for the first time 3/12 - Shino was very good. I scheduled a 1 hour massage after a long 13 mile run. Since I'm training for a Marathon I knew if she was good I'd be coming back. She recommnened that I schedule reflexology as well....(pressure points in the foot) - to better relax and strenghten my feet after a long run. April 1st was my first half Marathon - Golden Gate Rodeo beach run that included 4 miles of hills to start off. The run was brutal and afterwards I scheduled a massage with Shino - she did wonders for the legs, feet, hips, back and shoulders!!! The reflexology added to the massage was perfect. I will definetly be going back! I found a new massage therapist! read more

How can you give a mani and pedi anything less then 4 Stars. I came here for an office xmas party- 7 ladies- all seated and pampered at the same time. cant complain. I think we all came to the conclusion that not everyone received the same massage as the next- 5/7 people felt the others was much longer and much "deeper" Would just recommend they regulate the consistency between the manicurists. I love to get my nails done...I hate toes so it's always guaranteed that mine are covered with a pretty polish and I love going to Bamboo to get it done. I had a mani there for the first time yesterday and it was amazing. They are perfectionists yet don't take forever. All the girls who work there are so nice and all of them do a great job. They serve you tea or water and once I even got wine...and it's not too expensive. One thing I would say is that they don't have the biggest selection of colors...but I don't really care because I'll never not use Lincoln Park After Dark! 5/2/07 Okay...I am updating my review. I have started to thoroughly dislike Bamboo. Since the expansion began they have become snotty! They go through a pedi in 20 minutes! If I was rolling in dough, I'd come here every week to get a mani/pedi. Great service with really great, long lasting results. The atmosphere is relaxing and comfortable and all the workers are all really sweet. And quiet- which is usually the annoying thing about getting your nails done. Honestly, the other patrons who come in here and are yapping on their cell phones (when there is clearly a sign that says not to) or are having "girl time" are the ones to avoid. If you can, come here at off hours. I also love the oxygen facials with Mai. She's so helpful and always so nicely tries to give you tips on getting better skin. And gives you free samples to try out. Plus if you buy skin products here and don't like it, they'll let you exchange it for something else. Which is nice if you're dropping $95 on like 1.4 oz of moisturizer. Only gripe is that the nail services are expensive. I think their prices have risen too since I started going there. Their other spa services are all reasonably priced though. read more
