I don't get it. I guess if you live in Little Italy and need a divey sports bar, well, you've found it. But I just don't understand the appeal. I came here with some friends for a drink, and service was super friendly, but I can't say I found much else I liked here. Maybe I missed out since I didn't order any food. But when I come to Little Italy, I have a certain expectation, and Bar One didn't meet that expectation for me. Probably one of the best bars to get some decent bar food at. The only reason I'm not giving this place 5 starts is because they don't have a NON Dairy bun so I can try their burgers. If they could fix that I think they would probably even sell more food since they're a lot of people out there like me that cant have any Dairy. Was here to watch the Germany/ Sweden wprld cup game. It was pretty busy but were able to get a table near the sidewalk. The waitress we had was pretty attentive but forgot her name. I ordered the chicken fried steak, eggs and potatoes and the wife had the chilaquiles with eggs.. Wife said they were the best chilaquiles she's had here in San Diego. My steak was sloppily put on way overdone potatoes. A little ugly looking but the steak was pretty decent , the potatoes kind of ruined the plate being over cooked and hard. I've walked by this place since it firt opened and never even had a beer. Yesterday I went to watch the Padres game and was so impressed. Prices very reasonable for Little Italy. Stopped in randomly after trying to find a place for my omnivore and myself (plant based) to eat. From the signage you would think they would have vegan friendly option but they do! They offer both beyond meat burgers and beyond meat links. I had the Vinny "Sausage" - the bun was really disappointing, and the "link" was more dry than ones I've had in the past. I love this place because they are beyond Dog Friendly so that's always a Win in my book!!! The food was beyond delicious! The sauces are home made and the portions are excellent size for sharing. They had Peroni beer on tap. I enjoyed the delicious beer cheese Mac N Cheese with Hot Cheeto crumbles , the cauliflower appetizer, the fried eggplant with marinara sauce. Peroni and a SD favorite 394 on tap along with 10 other taps this place is off to a great start and I haven't even mentioned the food. -Guido poutine is amazing! The short rib is marinated for 20 plus hours and sits on a bed of delicious fries with the best house made mozzarella I have ever tasted! -Lizzys Arancini: Fried rice balls with gravy and more mozzarella yum! -Bar One Board: choice of sausage I chose chicken, 2 generous portions of cheese, fresh Crostini's, honey glazed ricotta that was literally to die for! 2 meats: prosciutto and salami. This board did not disappoint!! I am a cheese board freak and I hate ordering a cheese board and you get two or three tiny pieces of cheese and a bunch of nuts and dried fruit. This cheese board was legit! From the portion to the tasty choices that were made. I will order this again and again. I didn't have the burger but my friend did and said it was amazing! I almost forgot the dessert! I almost ate a whole serving it was so good!! Juju bee Zeppole is a fancy Italian donut hole that will leave you wanting more! No joke I actually took some home! The feeling in my mouth was like the combination of that first time kissing a crush during a sleep away camp spin the bottle game mixed with the elustrious taste of magical gravy stirred by a 116 year old lady on the Italian coast. Buddee Wings: Slapped with the wings of an angel, I would literally kiss the inside of a homeless guys filthy torn apart new balance shoe for another order of these. Nicky's Gnocchi: The Chef is apparently light weight famous for these... Not sure what the big deal is... I mean... They are like the 3rd best thing I have ever eaten in my life. Guido Poutine: Lets take a moment hear to realize one thing. Short Rib Gravy!!! What! Simmered for a day, it would not surprise me if the ingredients were holy water, unicorn ribs, and the milk from the bosom of a crying mermaid. It could be placed on top of a dead rotting Wooly Mammoth carcass and be delicious. I have recommended not serving this dish anymore based purely on the fact that it might lead to people fighting others in the restaurant for the last few pieces that may have dripped off the plate onto the table, floor, or onto the shirt of some dickhead named Kevin sitting next to you. This has quickly moved into first place for my death row meal. That means that right before I die, I would choose to have this as my last meal on this earth. I would then prey for reincarnation, not to see my parents or friends again... but to eat this short rib gravy one more time. Your frosty cold beer is great for your bottom line, but does nothing for the taste of the beer. Or ask one of the over 100 Craft Brewers in San Diego that are fighting for your tap handles what their ideal temp is. When you order a shot, you want a shot, not a drink watered down with fruit mixes and water. We didn't try the food, so I cannot attest to the quality of your "fresh sausage." However, you're missing the mark on innovative drinks or at least publicizing their availability. According to our waitress, you don't have a drink menu. Your "innovative drinks" were not listed on the chalkboard behind the bar, how are we as customers supposed to determine what "innovative drinks" you have available? I'm not real certain what being from the area has to do with either of our comments? Your city is definitely beautiful and a tourist destination. When I found out that I could get a savage burger, epic meatballs and the best wings I've ever had without paying the pretentious prices commonly found it Little Italy, I was incredibly pleased. The only other place I frequented in LI was Waterfront since I have a sincerely hard time paying 30$ for a plate of Spaghetti. 5$ draft Peroni's is the best way to wash down this incredible food cooked by Master Chef Alumni Nick Nappi. I've had everything on the menu, and the one thing I do not like is the Vegetarian Cannellini. Why you ask? cause I'm a fuckin human that eats meat. I don't eat my foods food. BUT, sometimes you gotta please the masses by giving them a little of what they want. The wings are the best in town, no joke. I consider myself a wing connoisseur and these ones do not disappoint. Very disappointed. We here Labor Day because they advertised Brunch Special. When we got there at 12:30, they said it was no longer going on. Sadly, but we stayed. Service took forever, it was not busy or crowded. I had to get up and get our waitress numerous times. I ordered a hotdog for my son with a side of fries. The fries came out 30 minutes before the rest of our food. I ordered a craft beer which came in a can, which is fine. But they offered no glass. The Links are horrible! It was dried out and the fancy bun was old and stale tasting. The garlic fries tast as if they've been sitting out for quite sometime. Over 50 minutes before we got our food. After walking up and down Little Italy for something to eat, my girl and settled for Bar One because everything else was a little too bougie, considering we had just checked into our hotel and were carrying bags from CVS. We ordered a chicken parmesan link and a chicken sando, which I thought was a link, but I probably missed the part where it was a sandwich, so that's my mistake. Either way, it sounded great in the description. The chicken parm came with fries and I ordered a side salad with mine. Basically the chicken parm was really good! The fries were standard, but the side salad and chicken sando were so gross. The chicken was really dry, didn't have much flavor and the whole thing was just lumpy because the chicken was uneven. The side salad was arugula, which I don't mind but the dressing was this weird gray/purple sauce that didn't have much flavor. It also had cucumbers which I'm mildly allergic to, so I wish the menu at least described what the side salad was composed of. I felt bad for lying to the bartender whenever he asked if everything was good, but I had already eaten the chicken and my girl picked at the salad. Everything in the pictures seems so good. We always love Bar One but I just have to write a special review about how they have pivoted during the most recent stretch of the pandemic. The Barra Uno taco pop up is unbelievable!! The menu is simple but the food is so freaking good!!! My favorite are the Birria Quesatacos. Mind blowing. Just thinking about them right now is making me want to walk my happy ass over there this minute to get more. I also have to say how grateful we are that they haven't raised their prices like other Little Italy restaurants. I know everyone is just trying to do what they can to survive but we are down to one income also due to the pandemic and paying $18 for a grilled cheese is just not feasible for us right now.
