Their winter sangria and espresso martinis were delicious. Burger and fries were average. The Chicken Milanese Burrata is a must try, served hot on a cast iron skillet with enough for a second portion to bring home. Great local Newtown favorite. The specials are key. They are always offering interesting new dishes and flavors if you're willing. The bbq pork belly and charred Brussels with aioli are on the menu, and if you are a fan of either you must try these. The pork belly is a little salty with a little spicy. Perfect. The Brussels are crispy without being too flaky. Best dish of the night was the tacos, hands down. Delicious. And the naan stays together despite the juiciness of the meat and sauce. If they are available when you visit I highly recommend them. The ahi tuna was also delicious. Didn't even need the sauce that was added. We went there for our daughter's birthday. It was seven of us. My daughter and her 4 kids. We had very tasty appetizers. We had calamari, Smoked blackened Nachos and rice balls. The appetizers aren't that big but it's big enough for two if you get one appetizer. My favorite is the blackened nachos and All 3 appetizers were gluten free. My two grand daughters had the pasta and they really enjoyed it. My daughter had the salmon she said it was very tasty and moist. My grand son and I shared the steak and flatbread brisket. The steak was made medium rare, prefect and yummy. My husband enjoyed his Kobe burger. He said it's the best taste moist burger he ever had. The service was excellent and the seats are comfortable and the place is spacious and has high ceilings. It's nicely decorated. We will be back. We've gone to the Barnwood Grill once. We dined outside. We ordered their rice balls, fried calamari, and the pan seared scallops which were on their special. The scallops were excellent and was not overcooked with nice sear it melted like butter. The appetizer came out hot and fresh. They were delicious. I ordered the steak Medium and it was excellent. Great experience!! It has a very cozy atmosphere-- we were right next to a fireplace which made it even more aesthetic. Your meal starts off with bread (always a great start). I got Newtown Chicken for my main, which comes with mashed potatoes (yum!) and bacon brussel sprouts (they were okay). Other people got the scallops, steak, brisket, salmon, and pasta; everyone was happy with their meal. I tried the brisket and that was pretty solid as well. You can also order sides separately-- we got mac and cheese-- and it was a QUALITY portion, definitely shareable (we shared between 2 people but you could also share with 3 and still get enough per person) Finally, dessert!! Look no further than the sea salt and caramel cheesecake.... It was delicious!! The chocolate chip lava cake (chocolate chip cookie, with chocolate sauce-- not chocolate cake with chips) was also enjoyed! Super cute place that we tried after going to a local pumpkin farm. You can't tell from the outside since it's next to a supermarket, but inside is so cozy and makes you feel right at home with beautiful barn wood accents, a fireplace and cute decor. Words cannot even express how much I fell in love with Barnwood Grill! Let's start off with the bread- PLEASE keep it coming! The Italian bread was sliced thinly and crispy on the edges and super fluffy inside absolutely perfect with their herbed butter. I seriously would come just for the bread and butter and a cocktail and be COMPLETELY happy!! My bff and I ordered their house red sangria which was equally as delicious-super light and packed with fresh real fruit! Now onto the entrees... WOW! I ordered the lobster ravioli alla vodka sauce and was BLOWN AWAY!! I am so so particular with my vodka sauce and am always so disappointed when I order it out anywhere (my fiancé makes it the best!) but at Barnwood Grill their sauce was super fresh and clearly homemade. The ravioli was super fresh and PACKED with chunks of lobster. It was amazing to see that for only $20 I got a HUGE portion of ravioli. 110% recommend! My bff ordered the lemon chicken entree and she raved about it as well! Even though we were stuffed after our meal and didn't order dessert I heard they are amazing. One day I'd like to go back and try their creme brûlée. Service was super nice and welcoming. At the end of our meal we were given complimentary glasses of dessert wine and usually I am not a fan of dessert wine but what we were give was absolutely delicious and was the perfect ending to our meal. Let me start by saying this place is beautiful. It has the right vibe most people are looking g for. It's cozy and well decorated for Christmas. I loved the feel of the place and was hoping the food would be amazing. Unfortunately the food is just mediocre at best. I wanted something fresh so we started with a a crispy squash flower special and the tuna tartar. I don't know what I thought the special would be but I did not think it was going to be a deep fried spring roll that was stuffed with 80% melted cheese. Felt like a fancy mozzarella stick that was overly greasy. The tuna tartar was doused in chipotle sauce so really it felt like a dip. I immediately felt unhealthy after trying both appetizers. For entrees I had the salmon (which has 0 description of what comes with it) ps. It's mashed potatoes and broccoli. The salmon was fine. Didn't hate it but didn't love it. My husband got the short rib pasta. Also was just ok. Lacked flavor. And basically was a glorified Mac and cheese with short rib. Overall I wasn't too into any of it. So it is time for a Barnwood grill update! This place is absolutely beautiful. It's all red brick and I love the Rustic vibe. It's very inviting and perfect for dinner on a New England summer night. I think it is official..Newtown is my favorite Connecticut town for eateries. I do not think I have run into anywhere I have disliked in Newtown! Really really good food. So..Barnwood..on the plus side, the food is yummy. And this place is really cool to dine at. I love the atmosphere and the manager was so nice, asking if we were enjoying ourselves. So Barnwood is in a shopping plaza and there is parking. But if it is crowded it can be tough to find a space. We had to be patient in regards to that. Now..the food. I have only ever been here with one person. They have both indoor and outdoor seating. We chose to sit indoors. I was craving a burger. (I seem to be craving them alot lately). Anyway the server made me a bit uneasy. There were different types of burgers and when I asked the difference he replied 'the meat". OK..that was not an answer that sold me on the burger. But I took a chance and ordered one. I chose the Kobe Burger with Apple Smoked bacon and it was tender and juicy and really good. Absolutely no issues with it. The Fries too were good..actually they were fantastic. I did not love the bacon but that is because it wasn't bacon strips..seemed more bits of bacon which isn't my thing but has nothing at all to do with the restaurant. But we also ordered Scallops and were a bit surprised by the small portion size. They only gave us three..and this was dinner, not an app. They were good but not at all filling. Also the bread they give you as a starter was a bit to hard. But when we asked for softer bread, we had no problem getting it. To sum up.. I really enjoyed both the environment and the food. I think you just have to ask questions and make sure you order the right thing. Again there was nothing wrong with the taste but the quantity of Scallops should have been more. I still very much enjoyed the experience. As I said, the owner or manager or whoever he was..LOL..actually came up to us and said how much he hoped we enjoyed the meal. Went for lunch today. Had the special butternut squash soup. It was a cold rainy day so a Fall soup sounded good. However, when it came, it was lukewarm and very sweet. Too sweet for what should have been a savory soup. It was as sweet as if it was a dessert. Couldn't finish it as it was not appealing. I then had the Brisket Flatbread which was "ehh". It was something that I wouldn't order again. It looks like this is a popular place to go in thet area as there were several tables with people meeting for lunch. I ordered the Chicken BLT and it came with Crispy Chicken which seemed to be pan fried instead of deep fried. It was light and cooked perfectly. The sandwich also had Bacon, Lettuce, Tomato, Blackened Honey Aioli served in a Toasted Brioche Bun. Definitely a tasty combination that hit the spot. I opted for a Cesar Salad which was as expected... fresh and full of flavor with grated cheese on top.
