After spending $135 for date night we were still hungry. Sooo yeah this is a solid 2.5 stars for sure, decided to round up to a 3 based on customer service and lobster roll. We ordered some appetizers, drinks, and an entreé. Let's start with the drinks. We ordered a double shot of Tito's with a splash of pineapple juice and an apricot martini. They both tasted like straight juice, no alcohol whatsoever. We paid almost $35 for juice not including the Rosé I ordered. For appetizers we ordered the shrimp cargot and coconut shrimp. Just a heads up the shrimp cargot is a small dish of shrimp and cheese. It's not a dip. The cheese tasted great with the garlic but the shrimp had a freezer taste to it. The coconut shrimp wasn't special, Outback's is better and you get more than 4 shrimp. For my entreé I had a lobster roll with fries. The lobster roll was pretty tasty, it was fresh and delicious. Our server, Mary advised me to get extra sauce on the side, great recommendation. I've had lobster rolls warm from different restaurants, this one was kinda cool or room temperature. I loved it this temperature. I almost forgot the cold and hard fries. If you order fries, well just skip them all together. Pick a different side! So as the other reviews mentioned, if it's your first time there you receive a complimentary dessert. I asked for creme brûlée but Mary said they ran out so she brought the fresh berries napoleon. It was pretty good, I mean it was complimentary so not a biggie. The biggest gripe for us was the cost and the food portions. We don't mind spending a few extra bucks for food but only if it makes sense. I could have went to Ruth Chris for more food and stronger drinks. Not sure if we would return. Sorry it's been so long fellow Yelp!ers. I'm still eating out but didn't think reviewing my same-olds is helpful. So here my mom and I are at Barrett's Grill. What a great place! My mom got the mahi-mahi fish tacos with a side of broccoli, one of several including sautéed spinach (one of my favs usually), and an Arnold Palmer (my mom's fav). The tacos had a little spice kick and as fish of the day found itself in a few entrees. It's Restaurant Week, it seems, till Oct. 24, so yours truly decided on the special two-course menu of corn and crab soup (simply a dream!) and the salmon fettuccine with penne and broccoli. The light cream sauce was delish--really a great entree! Had an iced tea to cool myself off on this unseasonably 80° day. Seating outside in the shade was ideal. There are a few chains at the Hunt Valley Mall for sushi, pizza and bar food (Greene Turtle) but Barrett's is quite worth the trip to the mall. And the staff is great! read more

We go here often. Kids menu has salmon which is very good except it's a hit of miss as to how well cooked they come out. Twice we had to ask if they could re-do it coz it was overcooked looking all black. Wasn't going to feed my toddler that. Otherwise the chicken salad and cream of crab soup are very good! read more

3.5 Barrett's boasts as the only local owned, scratch made restaurant in the area. I stumbled upon Barrett's while on a business trip; unfortunately during restaurant week. It was packed and noisy and the waitstaff was clearly overwhelmed. Although it was stated I could order off the regular menu, it seemed to be a bother. The standouts of the evening were the New Fashioned cocktail (and the charismatic gentleman who delivered it) and the Shrimp Cargot (pictured). I'd order these again and again. The evening special of Blackened Mahi Mahi with the chef's special vegetable of asparagus was good but slightly underwhelming. It all needed salt to wake the flavors up. Unfortunately my server came back to my table ONCE while both my water glass and cocktail stayed empty. Overall, a good experience but nothing to write home about. read more

So this was our second time here. We came many years ago on our anniversary. As the inside of the restaurant was full, we were offered a seat outside where there were scores of heating lamps. This created not only a level of comfort, but the ambiance was heightened. Our meals were delicious as we added crabmeat to our pasta order. Kinda pricey to do so, but in the end it was worth it. Wow! From the moment we walked in the door, we were greeted warmly by Lisa and immediately shown to a table. Karlie was our server and she was absolutely great. We were made to feel not only welcome but special! The food? It was mouth watering and very good. After we got home, hubby realized he left his glasses on our table. I love Barrett's and our last meal there did not disappoint. The Brussels sprout appetizer was to die for (in a good way). We each ate everything on our plates (two salmon entrees, the lamb chops and a French dip that was so tender and delivered without spilling the au jus all over the plate making the sandwich soggy - a personal pet peeve of mine). Ours was a purely social outing and the server quickly sensed how much she should, and maybe more importantly shouldn't, be present. My only complaint was it would have been a bit more comfortable if we had been seated at one of the larger four top tables. Soft crab cakes on toast points appetizer was very good, small amount of crab with flavorful breading. A bit expensive for 5 crab balls. Barrett's has become one of my go to lunch spots with coworkers when it's nice out and I'm looking for outdoor dining. I've only eaten outside but the inside seating looks nice and has an upscale atmosphere. I always order the same thing, a bacon cheeseburger and fries. Although a simple dish, they have got it dialed. The burger is juicy and always cooked to perfection. They also have some of my favorite fries, they are so thin and crispy. Service is great, the servers are friendly and make sure glasses are full and that you have everything you need. read more

Went to Barrett's on Friday for lunch with a group of 10, and had a wonderful experience with our server, Vanessa. She had the perfect touch with assisting us with menu information, descriptions and suggestions, without overwhelming us. We tried various items from the mini crab cake appetizers to a few different salads, chicken pasta, and blackened fish tacos/ sandwiches, All were prepared beautifully and quite well- received, the fish was especially delicious. Eventually Vanessa had to reveal there was 'a tour' of fine desserts as well! In our group we managed to share the coffee Panna cotta, flourless chocolate cake, mango ice cream and the strawberry shortcake. We were thrilled with the level of service she provided by being so kind, patie & understanding. The manager was circulating the room and clearly helpful to his servers. We ordered the crab and roasted corn soup, buffalo calamari, and cherrywood smoked salmon to start. All were fantastic! I'd go back just for the starters. For our entrees, John ordered the crispy chicken cobb salad and I ordered one of the specials which included a white fish that I can't recall the name of on top of mashed potatoes and topped with a mango salsa. I'm a regular Barrett's customer, and there's a reason for that -- several, actually. The food is great, the service excellent, and the decor lovely. I have probably had every salad they serve, and particularly enjoy the Crispy Chicken Cobb, the Strawberry Fields, and the Kale and Roasted Cauliflower. (Why the salmon that comes with that last salad is not in its name I cannot imagine -- it pays to read the menu carefully!) I've also enjoyed the Golden Waffle, the Blackened Chicken Pasta, and the Day Starter Benedict. My only negative, really, is that the Spinach and Mushroom Omelet was a bit of a misfire for me. And the toast! Goodness, toast actually toasted in a pan. The difference is amazing. The waitstaff is always helpful and friendly . . . Please read that several times because they deserve it. I just can't come up with any clever way to say it over and over. They do a great job. Prices are quite reasonable, especially considering the location and the nice decor. Beautiful weather for a Wednesday late lunch outdoors (nearly 70 degrees) and a wonderful meal at this Hunt Valley restaurant. Extremely attentive server, Jess, made the visit even more enjoyable. The lavender-honey sidecar cocktails were fantastic and a great lead for the meals. I had possible the best shrimp and cheese grits ever, blackened shrimp, red peppers, caramelized onions, green onions, andouille and a touch of BBQ sauce. My wife enjoyed the grilled salmon with stringbeans. This is our favorite place to dine. Food and service here are always consistent. It was raining as we walked to the entrance and was immediately greeted by the host who held the door open for us. We were escorted to our table. Our server was JP (or JB- sorry, I can't remember), gave us menus, and informed of that day's special. We didn't realize it was Baltimore County restaurant week and was kind of happy to try something new. We ordered soup along with a side of the croquettes. Hubby had the tomato bisque soup, and I had the cream of crab and corn soup (my favorite). We both decided on the cod that was served with broccolini. The food was amazing, but the broccolini was cooked to my perfection, but it was kind of hard to cut since the stems were hard to cut with the butter knife. If I get this again, I would request a sharper knife. The sauce on the cod was really good. They definitely need to keep this item on the menu. This is our go-to restaurant for every celebration since '17. We dined here in January for the birthdays of 2 friends. The menu has changed somewhat; I miss the cream of crab soup! Portions are quite small. We needed to order several of the scallop appetizers because of the decrease in portions. We noticed the same when we came in the summer. Staying in Hunt Valley, we discovered Barrett's and were surprised at the quality of what we ordered as well as the ambience of this restaurant. My Heirloom and mozzarella arugula salad hit my need for wanting a salad that did not have a lot of components. Ordering the prime rib burger was a first for me as it comes with a black angus patty combined with shavings of prime rib along with Swiss cheese and grilled onions. Flavor profile was great. Another person in our group ordered the blackened shrimp and cheddar grits which were amazing as we all tried a taste. We also shared the seasonal apple cinnamon cobbler which came with a scoop of ice cream. Definitely recommend this place if you are in the area and looking for a casual relaxing atmosphere for a date night. During our visit I noticed a large group separated by a closed door area for a group of business people in which a presentation was being given. We walked in and the hostess escorted us to our table right away. No wait! That's great! Our waiter, Bruce, was attentive and professional. He read everything we needed to hear about the specials. Overall great dining experience! Bring a sweater if dining inside. It was chilly. Had the fish special of the day and featured crab crostini appetizer. The crab appetizer was amazing. The fish special on top of sautéed spinach was very good. It came with three different risotto balls. They were meh. The desserts however were fantastic. The house made whipped cream in the fresh fruit Napoleon was the best, not too rich to be overpowering. The apple cobbler with vanilla ice cream was also delightful. I came here during Baltimore County's Restaurant Week. This restaurant is hard to find! I came here on a Saturday night and restaurant was completely full! It was raining, so I decided to make the reservation for indoors. While walking in, I noticed they had a covered patio on the side of the restaurant (wish I knew beforehand, so annoying!) Food: Salmon with mashed potatoes. The salmon had a weird meaty taste, almost like bologna. It tasted like they used the microwave to cook it. The mashed potatoes were good. Customer Service: Great! Although the restaurant was full, my server was attentive. I will give them the benefit of the doubt. It was restaurant week, so it could have been a fluke. I'd probably give this place another chance. I would love to try their patio out! Maybe just for a glass of wine. I definitely wouldn't recommend ordering the salmon. read more
