I've been here multiple times, its has a fun atmosphere. Don't expect to get in on a Friday night or the weekend without a reservation or hour long wait. I've been told on more than one occasion there will be a wait on the tacos once I've been seated since the kitchen is backed up. But - they keep the drinks and chips & quac flowing so its enough to keep me going back. My husband and I love this place - it is a go-to for date night. They have many vegetarian options. The corn dish is really unique and yummy! The cauliflower tacos and the falafel tacos are my 2 faves. The atmosphere is also a lot of fun. read more

I stopped by here the first week it was open, the food was amazing, it's an issue when each taco you try is better than the last one, so for a tip, don't order more than one of a type so you can try the rest, we didn't have any of the cocktails, but they looked amazing, I would definitely stop by here again anytime! read more

Bar taco is a cool New Mexican style restaurant. It had great service and good food when I went with my friend. After hearing so much about this restaurant from friends, I had high expectations. I took my three children (ages7,9,11) on Tuesday night for dinner. We waited about 25 minutes, but that is to be expected at any good, trendy restaurant. Our server was super nice and explained how the menu and ordering worked. She asked if we wanted any starters and my kids unanimously said "salsa and chips". Our server warned us that the kids wouldn't like the salsa because it was spicy and suggested the kids guacamole. My 9 year old son loves guacamole and he ate one bite of the kids guacamole at Bartaco and declared it "terrible." I then tried a bite and it tasted like mashed avocado with a LOT of lime. It was truly terrible. My oldest son ordered 2 oyster tacos and he liked them, but was still starving. He tried a rib eye and an adult chicken taco and disliked them both. I ordered a chopped salad and it was ok, but the taste of lime was over powering. All in all, our service was good, but the food was disappointing. I was also shocked at the $70 check....all of us had water and we did not eat dessert. read more

The shrimp tacos gave my fiancé food poisoning. He's had diarrhea all day today. Please fix this because he had nothing else that could have gotten him sick (he had a chicken taco and a fish taco) - no one else in the table had shrimp tacos so we deducted to this easily. Really great experience at a chill, affordable local spot. We like eating at the bar here - helps cut down on the wait time. But service is strong, cocktails are fresh, beer menu is diverse, and the food is generally great. Some menu items not as good, but it's not expensive, so you can try a lot of things. Sit at the bar for great service. The bartenders are excellent - make everything from scratch! Everything I've had is delicious. Just know these are street tacos - so you'll need/want more than one, or at least should add some other items to your order for a full meal. The cauliflower, portobello, and mahi are my fave tacos. We finally tried this place last night and were blown away. As restaurant owners we are hard to impress on such a level. We had a fantastic waitress, who gave us guac (this may be complimentary and i didn't know) and plantains on the house as we told her it was our first time. Try those plantains. She said no one hardly orders them, if you don't you are missing out! I had the chicken and rice bowl which was very fresh and tasty. My husband and our cousin tried the tacos - pork belly, fish, chicken and one with beef. The beef and fish were raved over and the chicken as well. My margarita was perfection...with fresh squeezed lime juice and agave. The way I love it. I cannot say enough good things, price was good, atmosphere fabulous. This place is really beautiful. Our waitress (whose name escapes me) was really to be commended, she made our first experience something to remember and we will be regular customers. read more

Went for lunch with a few friends. The guacamole is amazing! Chips and salsa is also delicious. I love the way the chips are served. Also, the side of corn is fabulous and I recommend getting it off the cob. Was disappointed with the way the tacos were served. My friends and I each ordered 2 tacos but they were all brought out on one metal tray. So, we each had to dig for our food and the tacos were small. Unfortunately, one of my friend's tacos fell apart. This was really disappointing considering this is a place that's known for tacos and we had each only ordered 2. I will give it another try but next time, I'll order a tray of tacos to split with my party. I had the duck and chicken tacos, which were very good. Not sure the ambience matches the food being served. I was reminded of a carribean type restaurant but the food was Mexican. I'll definitely go back before it closes because this place is nothing more than the latest trend. I can't see this place being able to sustain itself in Hyde Park for years to come. read more

The food is good, but this is the second time that I have had a problem with my son's order. First time around, his food came out, but it was wrong - apparently, they served his plate to another table by accident. Okay, that is understandable. This time, they served the adults' meals, and we are sitting patiently waiting on his meal to come out (beef quesadilla). After 10 minutes of waiting, I politely ask the waiter where is his meal. She said she would look into it, but failed to report back what the deal was. At this point, the adults are done eating. Another 10 minutes go by, and still no meal! We ask for his order to go, as he already ate from the adults' meals. At no point does the waiter apologize or offer any reparation. This is unacceptable! read more

I stopped in 2x during the soft opening. Overall, I like the space and I can't help be reminded of the Cactus Club back in the day. The staff is very friendly and the bartenders are learning, but are attentive. The drinks are on the expensive side, but all are made to order with fresh ingredients. Many are quite different. The Caprihana was not all that fantastic, but the gin-inspired drink was quite tasty (forgot its name). I tried two bowls (bison and portobello mushroom) on two visits and rice made up 80%+ of the dish in each. The veggies and protein were minimal, which is unfortunate. Take a clue from Ciccios and learn how to proportion a bowl. The tacos are tiny, and while I only had one (chorizo), it came with nothing on it other than the chorizo. Really? Granted, it was tasty, but still - can we be a little more creative here? Overall, the buzz is high as the Village needs a shot in the arm, and Bartaco is a fantastic solution. I will be back soon for sure, but I do hope some refinement is made with the food. read more

My husband and I had a late dinner here this past Saturday night...out first time eating here. Atmosphere is great & good music. Rita, the manager first came to our table to greet us and fill us in since it was our first time here. Rita is genuine, super nice, and takes pride in her restaurant. Kate S. was our server and she is amazing!! Made great recommendations for what tacos to try out on the menu. We also had the chips and salsa. It's a salsa verde which was so delicious and fresh. We also had the baja fish taco, pork belly taco, chicken taco, and duck taco. Our favorites were the pork belly and duck, but all were really fantastic!!
