My favorite place to get poke and simple rolls! Kind over getting poke with all the extra stuff for a premium sf price .-. Basa got it real Hawaiian style & simple. I usually do their poke combo which comes with poke of your choice (spicy salmon, shoyu salmon, shoyu tuna), rice, seaweed salad, and a water bottle. I also typically order their 49er roll which is $11.50. The fish is fresh & doesn't have that fishy like taste or the dry texture like some of the poke/sushi spots I've tried. I've tried all flavors of the salmon and the spicy salmon poke has the most flavor and isn't super spicy. Shoyu is good as well, but it's just a simple shoyu flavor. 49er roll is exactly how I like it, perfect in size, not too much rice, and good ratio of sushi to lemon that's on top. Location is in the mission, so it's paid street parking. It's gotten more popular over time and sometimes there can be a wait. read more

After having this place bookmarked for so long, I finally made my way over on a Sunday morning. I came around noon and there wasn't a line but it got a bit busy afterward. My friend and I ordered the shoyu salmon poke, spicy salmon poke, large rice to share, and a basa roll. We received a pager and number after ordering and waited a little longer than I anticipated (rolls are made to order I think) but we didn't mind that much. Seems like they had online and phone orders coming in as well. The poke was extremely well priced at $8. It is a lot more filling than it looks. The large rice was perfect for two to share. The basa roll was surprisingly delicious and actually might be my favorite. The fresh scallop was a good mix with the salmon. Grabbed a quick lunch here on a weekday. Ordered the poke combo and soft shell crab burger. After ordering you get a number that notifies you when your food is ready. No actual indoor seating, but theres chairs available to sit at while you wait for your food. Order took about 20ish minutes to be ready. Soft shell burger was 10/10, honestly didn't have high expectations but I was blown away. The bun seems like brioche, sweet and soft, veggies tasted very fresh, and of course the crab was delicious. Basa has been our go to place for sashimi as long as its salmon, tuna or hamachi. Those are the only ones they carry as far as filets of fresh fish. As with everything else these days prices have gone up. Salmon and Hamachi are our favorites and was not disappointed. They also have assorted poki and hot cooked items which we tried a while back and for the most part that is the reason for 4 start review. Food was hot and tasty but I've had better. Many other food options as well. Street parking is difficult so plan on circling the block to find a space. They used to have seating for eating in but now seems like strictly carry out. This place is a GEM! I first discovered Basa 4 years ago and it's just as great. Prices, quantity, and QUALITY are all on point. It is a hole-in-the-wall no frills spot and feels a little like a fish market. Don't be fooled by how it looks, the food is superior to many. I've had Basa Seafood Express on my bookmarked list for years and I'm glad I finally got the chance to try them out. They are indeed express service. I placed my order there, and was out in about 10 minutes. They have most of their cold items prepped and visible in the front for fast grab for those who are interested in strictly poke. Just a heads up, it's street parking as most places are in SF/ the city in general. It was hard to find parking on a Monday at 2 PM. I tried the spicy salmon poke, side of rice, tekka, salmon, and hamachi maki rolls, and their clam chowder. Spicy Salmon Poke - 7/10, it was good and does have a little kick to it. It was fine for me but beware for those who may not be able to handle spice as well. All 3 of the Maki rolls - 6/10, the fish cuts were good but the rice was really mushy. I went here a few weeks ago and I'm still thinking about this place! Highly highly recommend. I tried both their spicy and short salmon poke with a side of rice and they're both delicious. The spicy salmon is a tad bit spicy for me because I'm weak but if you can handle normal spice, you'll love this. Negihama roll was also delicious and perfect bite size. Also got the salmon sashimi and you can tell the fish is fresh. Spider roll also had a good proportion of soft shell crab and batter. I have nothing but amazing things to say about this place!
