Chowder had great flavor and I'm not a fan of chowder. The pasta was perfect, all kinds right amount of spice, sausage, and great noodles. Very creamy. We had been there less than an hour and had barely started our second beers when we were given our check and told we needed to leave because two tour buses were arriving. I will say the food was not bad, but the restaurant was filled with smoke. We sat down and ordered and started to notice how filthy the place was. It was absolutely disgusting. All of the work areas behind the counter were dirty and you could see into the back room there was a pile of rags on the floor. They were absolutely disgusting. Poke bowl was fantastic! Big chunks of fresh ahi. They were accommodating to give half rice and half greens. Husband got the burger with blue cheese and bacon that came with chips. He said it was good. Service was good and food came out pretty quickly. Cute little place in the small town of Girdwood if you are passing through or are staying in the area. Server was very attentive and the food arrived in a timely manner. However, even though my chowder had great flavor, it was barely lukewarm. My wife had a mushroom burger which was really good (we shared ;). The burger was thick, delicious and tasted homemade. Service was good. My piece was almost the same size as dinner portion the table next to us ordered. Mine was $10 and theirs was a lot more expensive. My son had the mussels and really enjoyed them. Again very reasonable compared to many other Alaska meals we've had. Another in our party had the garlic pasta it was also a large portion and very good. My husband had a beyond beef jalapeño burger. It was a large portion in his words "it was really good but messy." We had the Matanuska blue berry beer which was really good perhaps a little sweet to some. Stumbled upon this place & so glad we did! My bf & I were in the area and ended up here. Super busy, so we sat at the bar. Service was great! They had large parties and were very busy and only 2 servers who were also the bartenders and I was very impressed with them! The kitchen also had orders out in a timely manner! I really miss the Girdwood Picnic Club. The cute and quirky name was appropriate for such a cute and quirky space. Basecamp is a little less cute and quirky, gone are the pillows printed to look like logs and gone is pro-feminine product station in the bathroom. However, the space is still pretty charming and the food is still pretty good! The Picnic club had a brunchy vibe, this place does not. The menu is much more straightforward, with discrete lunch and dinner sections. For main entrees, the prices are pretty high. Much more similar to dinner prices at Spoonline next door, than to the Picnic Club. I opted to get two appetizers: the strawberry salad and the quesadilla. Both were excellent! The salad was one of the best I've had in Alaska and the quesadilla was in my top 5! They also have a cute rotating wheel of hot sauces at various strength levels. My only complaint, again, are the prices. The strawberry salad felt more like a side-salad in portion size, but costs $14. I also wish they had wine and beer but, maybe they are working on that. Basecamp is worth a stop and I'm very grateful we have a new eatery in this space! For a ski town, Girdwood is surprisingly restaurant starved! read more

Review is based on food ordered, service and ambiance. Obviously this is a no frills place so ambiance is not going to score high. The food ordered was a gyro, burger and salmon chowder. The salmon chowder was good, the burger was not grilled so it was a bit greasy and the gyro was deep fried, but what else could it be? The ingredients in gyro were fresh. The service wasn't enthusiastic and seemed more interested in getting back to conversation with friends. It's possible the other food was better, but again the chowder was good giving it a 4/5 rating. Otherwise, considering the rest of the meal, service and ambiance, I'd give it a "could've been better" rating. I wanted it to be better based on a suggestion, but it wasn't. read more

Capable friendly service with solid quality food at a reasonable price. In this resort town it's easy to feel gouged by most places. Base camp has fair prices without compromising quality. In fact their food was superior in some aspects, but the biggest advantage was that their service was more orderly and reliable. The clam & crab chowder was how and fresh. I finished the cup easily. In the small town of Girdwood, Basecamp fills a niche for simple, fresh food at a reasonable price relative to the area. The venue is warm and inviting, our server Elena was friendly, and the beers are cold. I only wish they would stock brews from the local Girdwood Brewing, but they do offer other regional options. - Mushroom Swiss Burger ($19) - Price feels high for a burger, but this is the around the going price in Alaska nowadays. The burger was well seasoned and cooked, with a butter toasted bun and crisp, fresh toppings. - Smoked Salmon Spread ($16) - Very generous serving of luscious smoked salmon cream cheese. It was too much, but wonderful to take out and enjoy the next morning with crackers. - Smoked Salmon and Clam Chowder ($10) - Tasty, thick, chunky. We've had chowder all over Alaska and still really enjoyed this one. Also had a chance to try the King St Brewing Pilsner ($7.25), which was one of my favorite crisp and light beers while visiting AK. The Matanuska Brewing Blueberry Ale ($8.25) was quite sweet and not my jam, but seems popular as it's on many taplists. One oddity of note was a 5% "alcohol tax" listed on our bill. It was only applied to the drinks, but no other sales tax was added to the subtotal. If sales tax is included in the menu prices of food, it's a bit strange that it's not included in the menu prices of drinks. I've never seen another AK restaurant list an alcohol tax on a sit-down meal either. Truthfully, Basecamp wasn't our first choice for dinner, but as a cozy, easy eatery, I can earnestly recommend the experience. read more

This restaurant is located in a cute building. The inside feels bit dated, but comfortable. Our server was very friendly. Love that this is a small local run restaurant. The food was OK. The best entrees we ordered were the Cajun pasta and the mixed greens salad. We also really enjoyed the bowl of smoked salmon clam chowder soup. That I would definitely recommend. It came out hot and had noticeable bits of smoked salmon. The other three dishes were not as tasty. The strawberry salad champagne vinaigrette was way too vinegary and overpowered the rest of the salad. The prime rib sandwich was a bit salty for our taste and the bbq chicken flatbread fell flat. This place is an awesome time guys! MUST VISIT/ MUST EAT PLACE. From the moment we walked in - we were greeted warmly && just the open kitchen, which was the focal point in the small quaint homey restaurant. They had a smaller menu which we just picked a couple items from the menu to share. We started with two orders of raw oysters which were decent - not the best I've had but not bad. We then followed those up with the steamed mussels, which were a little over cooked but still good - the show stopper was the Smokes Salmon & Clam Chowder. It sure recked me but I couldn't NOT eat it - it was just so freaking good! We also had their salad which was dressed with shrimp! They were cooked perfectly && the champagne vinaigrette was just so delish! OH how could I forget about the seared Ahi!?!? So freaking good! The flavor of the Cajun seasoning was very flavorful which we dipped the very tender supple tuna pieces into their soy based sauce which was nice && sweet that mellowed & paired greatly with the Cajun seasoning so freaking well! I came here last year and I'm pretty sure I got food poisoning from under cooked chicken. Although I heard it is a seafood restaurant. Decided to come back a second time and got the poke bowl and goat cheese salad. The tuna was surprisingly good and fresh and the salad was decent. Nothing really stood out as amazing. Nice eatery in the town of Girdwood. The food was pretty decent. Prices are high but I think that's what you get in a small town in Alaska. I had the Poke Bowl with Ahi Tuna and was not disappointed. It was simple but delicious. They also have a good selection of beers. Our server was very friendly, gave great recommendations, and we enjoyed chatting with her! The interior was light and modern (looks like they opened in 2022). There were lots of big tables for 6-8 people, so good space for families. read more
