Very concerned about how management (Jamie) treats employees. I have been going to Beach Hut for years. Love the Super Salad. The kids who work there are such darlings. Very sweet. A couple of months ago, I learned this location is having a hard time keeping staff--high staff turnover. Today when I was in there, all the kids were busting their tails to serve the clients. It was very busy and in the middle of all the buzzing around to service customers, Jamie the manager starts chiding the workers in a very abrupt, demeaning way. Me and a few other customers looked at each other with alarm and I looked at one of the guys working there and he looked so beaten down by her harsh words. No idea what they were doing wrong because I had already been in there an hour and they were all working hard. I threw in a few extra dollars in the tip jar to try to help make up for such a poorly trained manager. You can have great food, a great environment, great location, great customer service, but hearing the floor manager berate and beat down staff is bad for business. Fire her. read more

Fun spot that's a quick walk from salt creek. Could have done with a tuna sandwich offering but alas, cold sandwich selection left something to be desired. What I got though was great and the people/vibe was good. Will update to 5 stars if they have their fountain drink game on point next time. I was staying at the Ritz Carlton and needed a spot for a quick, easy bite nearby. We popped over for sandwiches at Beach Hut deli. It did the trick. The sandwiches are hardly inspired or special - more like what you'd get at grandma's, but they were as described. I would have given them 3.5 stars, but half stars aren't an option here. Was waiting for our room to become available at the Ritz and decided to walk down to this quaint sandwich shop. My husband and I both loved our sandwiches and the environment! Sports were on and the staff even offered to change the channels to accommodate the game my husband wanted to watch. 10/10 experience! 10/10 food! read more

Wouldn't recommend - very understaffed on my last visit. Ordered online via Toast at 5:20pm and estimated time of food being ready was 5:40pm. We arrived at the restaurant at 5:40pm and didn't walk out with food til 6:10pm. There was probably only two other parties in the restaurant (aka not very busy) who had already finished eating. Food was very mediocre, one of the sandwiches we ordered was a hot sandwich and it was supposed to be on toasted garlic cheese toast but the bread was very bland, hardly toasted and no cheese or garlic flavor at all. This deli hits the spot after a day on the water!! Located right on the corner of Ritz and PCH and walking distance from the Salty Creek Beach parking lot. Reasonably priced sandwich shop (around $11-$18/sub based on size) currently offering outdoor seating and to-go options. We've been here a few times and tried different sandwiches and also the beer. Great selection of both hot and cold sandwiches. Cream cheese added (to the cold sandwiches) is a nice touch. Would personally recommend the Shark Bite (hot) or the classic Surfin' Bird (cold). Marley nachos are tasty if you want an app to share. Overall, great lunch option if your in the area or stumble upon it (several beach-city locations). We were in Laguna Niguel and wanted a quick informal lunch near the beach. Beach Hut Deli caught our eye as we drove by. Lots of easy parking. Outdoor tables (you eat on a surf board!) Order at the counter and they bring the food out to you. Lots of sandwiches to choose from. We went with one from the hot sandwich menu - the High Tide ($12). The sandwich has chopped pastrami, ham, bacon, cheddar and pepper jack on toasted garlic cheese bread. It tasted as good as it sounds. My husband and I both got the Shark Bite. I replaced Swiss with cheddar cheese and got a side of ranch for dipping. It was all really tasty and the flavor combination of the sandwich made it so unique. The ranch dressing is homemade too which is always better! Prices are decent for the quality. read more

STAY FAR FAR AWAY We've been coming to this location for years, and the quality of the food and service has substantially deteriorated to the point that we no longer will be coming to this location anymore. The Dana Point location staffs young teenagers with no leadership guiding them, and it shows. They appear overworked, underpaid, and take no pride in their work. Two recent incidents are indicative of this. I recently purchased an order for pickup an hour prior to my requested pickup time. Of course when I showed up to pick the order up at the requested time, not only was it not ready, but they hadn't even seen the ticket to make the sandwich. I had to wait over 25 minutes for the staff to then make my sandwich. That's 25 minutes AFTER the arranged pick up time. No apology, and no effort was made to fulfill my order as quickly as possible. This is unacceptable. Recently, we went into the store to place an order. The cashier didn't greet us or anything, just bluntly stated "there is a 25 minute wait." OK, fair enough. We said that's no problem, and placed our order. We then asked if it was possible for the cashier to give us a call when the order was ready to run an errand, and she agreed. Over 40 minutes passed and we received no phone call. We then decided to call the store to inquire about the status, and of course no one answered the phone, and there was no way to leave a voicemail. The phone just disconnected. We then drove back to the store to inquire in person, there was confusion with the staff but the order was ready...likely sitting there waiting for who knows how long. The cashier said to double check the order to ensure it was the right one. When we opened the order we were met with complete disappointment. It was the correct order but the sandwich was slopped together with less than half the usual meat and ingredient portion. Once again, absolutely unacceptable, especially for the high price of the sandwiches. Besides the lack of any customer service by the staff and the now low quality of the food, the bathrooms in the location are disgusting. The Dana Point location is nowhere near the quality and consistency of the San Clemente location. It's pathetic. Note this review was sent directly to the franchise owner of the restaurant. If give it one star service but sandwiches r in so did 3....I have always liked their sandwiches and usually pretty good service but the last couple times service had been terrible. Tonight I went in about 630ish and stood there for prob 5 or so min while the waitress chatted w a guest about her nationality etc etc, finally a customer or worker or someone at the bar called her by name and pointed. No big deal, she came over order a simple cold sandwich, she finishes the order, nice enough but then stops and talks to the lady again. No biggie until I realize she then goes to make my sandwich so just waiting eating my chips, there's a few ppl in watching the game 7 and they are all leaving so she keeps stopping and talking to them. Then another guy shows up now not sure if she or he is making it but she stopped to talk to the lady from the bar again as the customer went back by where they are making the sandwiches. I though she made it but who knows. It's going on 15 min now. She then goes out takes an order to someone outside...that guy comes in right after asking for the missing pasta salad, so she goes back to make that, goes back outside drops it off and then starts talking w someone outside. I need to be leaving as my friends waiting at the beach so I nicely interrupt and ask if she can just refund me that I gotta go. Paid cash or if just left but she goes back like surprised to see me or that I don't have my order and so does something behind the counter, it must have been sitting there and she got distracted. I said thanks, not sure why I'm apologizing it's now been like 23 min to get my sandwich when no one's even in there. Instead of being apologetic or nice she just goes to the cash register and acts like she cancelled the order as a refund I guess she forgot I paid cash...total cluster and prob won't be back in the evenings..def need to some customer service skill training or something....too much commotion in the area to keep going back. read more

The employees at this place should visit next door and learn from the customer service at Moulin. We ordered the tuna sandwich with all of the veggies. The lady who made the sandwiches tossed the plate on the table with so much attitude. Then we looked at the sandwich and it was missing half of the veggies. If the sandwiches weren't $15, I wouldn't have even bothered with this review but these are expensive sandwiches. Awesome spot to eat if you're staying at the Ritz and want a break from the prices (like I did). Or before you head down to Salt Creek Beach! Came here twice for lunch and got a hot Surfin Cow. The sandwiches are pretty filling with lots of sauce so expect to get messy. I got a 9" sandwich the first time and it was more than enough so I opted for a 6" the second time. My son and I came by here the other day to grab some food to-go. With great salads and sandwiches, good customer service, and a fun beach vibe, the Beach Hut Deli is a nice stop for a quick bite to eat while in Dana Point. We waited for our food on their nice, relaxing patio. While the inside of the restaurant had just a few booths, the patio had plenty of wonderful seating. With our great SoCal weather, we will definitely have to sit outside on our next visit here. My son ordered the roast beef sandwich. With tons of delicious roast beef, cheese, tomato, pickles, lettuce on a soft french roll, my son thoroughly enjoyed his sandwich. I ordered the barbecue chicken salad. My salad was quite tasty. With lots of tender chicken slathered in their wonderful BBQ sauce and loaded with plenty of tomato, onion, melted cheese, and pieces of bacon on a fresh bed of lettuce, my salad was delicious. Even though the salad was a half order, it was very filling. Customer service is really good here. When we waited on the patio, they brought our food out to us and made sure to ask if there was anything else we needed. Everyone seemed nice and helpful here. For a quick lunch on the way to the beach or a relaxing meal on their patio, the Beach Hut Deli has great food at reasonable prices. Customer service is absolutely phenomenal and the staff is wonderful. The inside is what you would you expect, beach themed. Plenty of booths and tables, along with a bar. Outside they have covered seating with heat lamps! Gotta love it! The sandwiches are amazing! I usually go basic turkey when I try a new sandwich place, but man, they do not skimp, not one bit! Beach Hut deli is the best sandwiches on the planet. This was actually the first one we went to when we were staying at the Ritz Carrollton across the street. We've sense been to Huntington Beach and Newport Beach locations, but this one specifically is the best. Today they forgot my cream cheese on my sandwich, yes... it's amazing, but I didn't realize until I was almost done it was still good! I get the Surfin Pig Warm (meat) and toasted (bread). It comes with ham, bacon, avocado, tomatoes, lettuce, onions, cream cheese, peppers... i take off the mayo, mustard and pickles. My husband gets the sunrise and subs it on a crescent roll. Meh, I'm not impressed and actually disappointed with this place but let me be objective. The day we came, their toaster was broken, so already not ideal for a place that makes sandwiches.... My friend ordered a sandwich which was served with everything on the side so he had to make his sandwich himself. Strange but ok I guess... I ordered the chef salad and I had never been served such salad before: served on top of sandwich paper- the ingredients weren't chopped and it looked more like an open sandwich with no bread. Unless I cut and sliced everything, I couldn't eat it. Not at all a normal salad nor what I expected so I returned it. Plus: The ingredients were fresh and tasted good however. The garlic toast is really just plain toast, the egg sandwiches very generic and the meats just poor quality. Starting off at $10 for a small sandwich you are much better of elsewhere. I've been to Beach Hut Deli a few times (this location plus Oceanside and Mission Viejo) and can say I've been pleased each and every time. My first experience in Oceanside is actually what brought me back and I've tried both hot and cold sandwiches as well as the nachos (...watch out BBQ salad, I'm coming for you next). The first time I tried BHD I admit I was a bit "dehydrated" and wasn't really feeling like I wanted to do anything, but I knew I needed some grub, so we found this place on yelp and gave it a shot. Got the Marley nachos as my partner in crime cannot step into a restaurant and pass up nachos (dank, but not the same kind of nachos you would get at a Mexican restaurant as the chips are definitely not home made) and I went and got wild and ordered the first thing on the menu... the surfin bird (cold- turkey, bacon, avocado, lettuce, and that cream cheese deliciousness I never knew existed on a turkey sandwich). Due to my "dehydration" I had about 6 bites of those nachos before I went down for the count, but let it be known that when I finally did eat my sandwich (about 2 hrs later) it was everything I was hoping to taste at that very second. I'm a sucker for cheese y'all, so I really think that sliver of cream cheese is what sucked me in, plus the fact that the sandwich stayed solid (not soggy) until I was able to enjoy it. Fast forward a month or so and we stumble upon this BHD in Dana Point after a morning at Salty Creek. We were hungry and they had outdoor seating (perfect for the pooch) so we have it another go. The shark bite sandwich (hot-with ham, bacon, Swiss on garlic bread) is amazingly flavorful and quite filling. The Cali cheesesteak (hot-cheesesteak with peppers on a hoagie bun) caught my attention as I love a good cheesesteak and this definitely hit the spot. We washed this down with some craft beer (regrettably don't recall what we ordered but they have a decent selection). Third time (tasting in MV) and I admit it...I'm becoming a bit of a junky and want to keep coming back and trying all the sandwiches. I'm pretty sure I forced bae into eating this (again) for lunch but he's a trooper (and loves them nachos) so it's all good. Marley Nachos, Pig Kahuna, and Surfin' Pig all came home with us due to COVID restrictions (fine with me... this place is close and we already know the sandwiches don't get super soggy). Pig Kahuna was super flavorful as was the nachos and the Surfin Pig. The nacho chips have some sort of coating/seasoning so they give the nachos a nice kick. Fresh avocado is diced and sprinkled on top and it mixes well with the kind of cheese they use. Overall a really good sandwich shop with unique sandwiches and a nice presentation (yes, they make the sandwiches open faced, but you can easily tuck the meat in...or if that is too complex you can use a fork and knife). Definitely on the pricier side for a sandwich ($11-18 depending on size) but the flavors make you forget about the cost for sure, and it's filling so you won't be looking to eat again in two hours.
