This spot is worth the drive if you want No Frills no Fuss Siu mai & Har Gow. Their "Footballs" are good but I think they'll be better FRESH. Okay yes this place looks super run down but don't let that discourage you from coming in. The workers here really put in a lot of hard work in their food. The portions are one of the biggest I've seen and for the price? Ever better. I always get their har gow, shu mai, steamed chicken feet, pork/shrimp & chives dumplings, and glutinous rice dumplings (AKA footballs). It's always a hit or miss when they have their footballs but when you do come across them on your next visit to Beacon B.B.Q, definitely buy some! I recommend asking for more soy sauce and chili oil sauce because of how big these dumplings are, you're going to want more. My fave place for Chinese BBQ when I am not in the mood to cook dinner; and you don't have to wait long for your food. Occasionally, when I walked in someone from the back would yell out, "What do you want!" but don't let that scared you. Staff are very friendly for the most part, and food are cheaper than most places and delicious! Although not all dim sum items are there, what they have are all great. Their shrimp balls are packed with shrimp and bigger than any shrimp balls I've eaten at any dim sum places, the same with their sui mai. My guess is that you've driven by this place on Beacon Ave and dismissed it. It's really easy to! I walk to Jefferson Park and pass by this place regularly. I'm not sure if they provide dim sum to other restaurants, or if it is strictly for regular retail customers. They have a big rolling steam table standing by the deli case filled with a little or a lot of variety of dim sum. Complete feast or famine thing. The shrimp dumplings are giant happy to-go pillows. They're so good, I don't even use the sauce. The real draw here is the BBQ duck here. Reasonably priced and just as good as King's. (The sauce is a bit salty, drizzle at your own risk.) I do love it when people chop up my meat in front of me--it makes for an authentic experience. In their deli case, they also have fried fat back, vegetables, rice balls, noodles and fresh BBQ pork--and though I look at the case every time, I never see anything in it that has ever made me want to try it. Also, they are really good about upselling you on their goods, but the BBQ duck and chicken are usually enough for me :) I dunno though...Is this place a front for something else? Aside from the location and the questionable cleanliness the food here is delicious. I really hate driving all the way out here but my parents love this place. The roast pig and roast duck has always been good and the skin on those is crispy and tasty. The banh bao whether it's processed pork or chicken with the Chinese sausage and egg inside is pretty good and they give you a lot of meat. I like the outer bread too, it's good not too dry and a little bit of sweetness. The BBQ pork banh bao has some good flavor as well and taste great while it's still hot. Overall, I recommend coming here for any of their roasted animals and any of the banh baos. read more

They've got roasted pork, duck, BBQ pork, chicken and sometimes fried rice & noodles. I like to come here for the HUGE and generous shumai that are available hot and ready to go. This is our new favorite dim sum place. We used to go to Dim Sum House (which is just a few stores down), but Beacon BBQ is better. The hau gau and suimai pieces are massive! They give you a soy dipping sauce, which is an added plus. There's usually a small line in the early mornings, but it's fast because their items are already made and they just need to pack it up. I was actually visiting the nursery next to this shop. I couldn't find a parking so thought to park in their parking area. I didn't want to be mean so thought to stop by and buy something. Ambience - it is not a sit and dine place for sure. It was clean but not spick and span. It is largely a carry out place so even though the ambience isn't perfect it doesn't really matter. Dimsum and dumplings - juicy, succulent, the flavor from the herbs literally explodes in the mouth at the first bite of it. My favorite is the shrimp dumpling and another dumpling that has shrimps with cilantro and chives. Meat - the meat in the dumpling (pork or shrimp) taste really fresh. You can feel it, it's now chewy or rubbery, it's soft and I love it that way. I go there once a week and guess what it so reasonably priced. I find the crew super friendly, I often try to practice my Mandarin skills with them and they love to correct me. read more

Limited dim sum options but they're all good- shu mai, shrimp balls, pork buns, all piping hot and delicious, and easy for take out. (and only get them to go. You don't want to eat there) They ask you if you want sauce, and you should always get it. It's salty, spicy, vinegary.. perfect. If you let your dim sum sit for a few hours though, ones that have a wrapping like the shrimp balls will get hard. So don't try to save some for later. We ordered a large Mongolian beef and a large sweet and sour chicken tray for my son's 1st birthday and was very very disappointed! The mongolian beef was on top of the fried noodles that came with it. The fried noodles consumed more than half of the tray with very little beef on the top! And it costed $65 for that! The sweet and sour chicken is not that good also. It is very hard and the batter was too thick and had very little chicken in it. It looked like plain fried popcorn chicken and mcdonalds sweet and sour sauce. There were no pineapple's or bell peppers in it. We are very dissappointed with it! One of the best hidden secrets of Beacon Hill. Not to many people know about this place and maybe that is a good thing because the lines are still relatively short. There is nothing note worth on the inside, it's actually a bit grimy, but the food is what matters. This is a ma and pa that makes some really good BBQ duck and dim sum items. If you jaywalk, be careful not to jump out from the trees, ain't nobody gonna stop for you so be careful! BBQ pork is by the pound, honestly for two people, a half pound is more than enough. I believe it's about $13 a pound. The flavor is exquisite. Slow cooked, tender with a yummy sweet gingery glaze. I have to say, that the cha siu here tastes unlike anywhere I've tried before! It's more on the gingery side, I personally love ginger so thumbs up! It's always seasoned just right and fresh! The inventory and demand keeps it coming so I always trust that I'm getting quality fresh meats! You get a good mix of burnt ends, fatty succulent pieces and also those beautiful slices of meat... Mmm! I normally get a pound, and I will admit I just snack on the cha siu without rice because it's very addicting. My family rolls the cha siu into spring rolls which is one of my favorites! We also buy roast pork from here - it doesn't beat my favorite spot in Tacoma BUT it's reasonably priced and comes with a nice plum sauce. They also sell dimsum on the side! I ordered food for my sons birthday a week prior to the event and when I got there to pick it up it wasn't ready. I was a little annoyed because I was already short on time and I had to wait 35 minutes for chicken wings that didn't really have any flavor.. I also ordered beef and broccoli and not even a full day later the broccoli was spoiled. Other then that, though they're disorganized, I really like their dim sum.
