My scallops on my scallops are grits were perfectly cooked, but the stand out was the churro donut. I would go back for coffee and donuts over and over again. The weather was beautiful so I wish we would have sat on the patio. The vibe was much more relaxed out there. This is perfect hangover food, sober food, breakfast food, lunch food, whatever. My friend and I went there for brunch a few days ago. The food was okay, and the coffee was disgusting. Our server draux was super cool, and tried to accommodate us as much as possible. However when we asked for the lavender honey latte to be taken off the check it was a big fuss. We drank half a sip of it and it was god awful. Got there when they opened and already had a small line because this place is just that fire! I had a hot chocolate and brother had a matcha latte, both unreal. We started with coffee cake, it was warm sweet and moist with a little powdered sugar sprinkle, best appetizer. I had mushroom scrambled with egg white and side potatoes, he had breakfast sandwich with bison sausage onions substituted and we shared blueberry pancakes. We rolled out of there without wasting a bite of that epic breakfast. We usually leave last bites or best bites for each other but we actually fought over the coffee cake. The atmosphere is cool and service is great, they're definitely used to being slammed. Food came out pretty quick and hot. I actually believe the price is fair for what you get, big portion. Breakfast served all day? Sign me up! Bearcat has two locations in town featuring one in CBD and a location near Freret Street. Their CBD location is a lot larger with seating on the main floor, back patio (they also have a event space), and an upper floor. Like a ditz I forgot they have Yelp Waitlist so we could have signed up from the comfort of our hotel; however, upon walking in there was about a thirty minute wait. While you're waiting go ahead and grab a drink at the bar and then wait outside in the back or take a stroll. The bar has reserved seating so be aware it's not a free for all. Their menu is split up by goodcat and badcat (healthy and calories don't count as I like to say). The last time I was there I had the chance to enjoy their biscuits and cajun gravy. It was so damn good and I really enjoyed it. I will say though that their espresso martini wasn't that good but the bar was pretty swamped at the moment. read more

I do want to mention that the wait was about 15 minutes, but it moved quickly. They've got a great system, just walk in, put your name on the list, and you'll get a text when your table is ready. Super efficient! For my main dish, I had the mushroom toast, and it was fantastic, flavorful, perfectly balanced, and just the right portion. The ambience was also a highlight, sitting outside in the backyard area with great shade made for a really enjoyable dining experience. We were recommended this restaurant by our front desk host at the hotel because I always prefer to get local restaurant suggestions rather than going where all the tourists go. It wasn't a busy weekend, and to our surprise, even though some people were waiting for a bit, we were seated right away as a party of two. The wait, if there had been one, would have been worth it. The ambiance is great, the service was amazing, and the food was out of this world. The location is quaint and aesthetically pleasing. We tried to go again on Monday before we left, but unfortunately, they're closed on Mondays. I was so sad! I never trust long lines at restaurants, but this time, I should have. People were crammed in trying to get a seat at this breakfast/lunch spot before it closed. And, now I know why. We enjoyed our food so much that we circled back for more right before our flight home. On Day 1, we had the steak, egg, and cheese burrito, pancakes, the porkchop lunch, and boudin balls. The boudin balls are called "goat balls" because they rest on a delicious goat cheese and Steen's syrup spread. They are simply delicious... more meat than rice, well-seasoned, and not densely packed. They are the reason that we circled back. The pancakes are a close runner-up to the boudin. They are both fluffy and buttery with perfectly crisp edges. I had the steak burrito and instead of their red sauce, I had chimichurri... it was yummy! My husband had the porkchops and said that it was perfectly cooked. It was clearly delicious to him, because I was offered none! We also had a few cocktails. The margaritas are made to order and are wonderful. And, the bartender made a custom drink for my husband that impressed him. Day 2, he had the scallop and grits with fried oysters and I just wanted boudin, pancakes and bacon. His scallops were perfect cooked and he scraped his dish clean. The pancakes were just as good as Day 1; and, the short stack filled me up. We sat both upstairs and downstairs; and, prefer the upstairs for both the vibe and the view. It was a great experience... Divine. From beginning to end, we had a magical experience. We were staying in the French Quarter and Bearcat CBD came highly recommended by more than one trusted local. We decided the morning of our departure, a visit was a must. It was a roughly 20-minute walk from our hotel. We arrived on a Tuesday morning and were delighted to find we could be seated straight away. We were given the option to sit outside or in. I was reticent to sit outdoors as it was quite warm, but the server assured us that we would be in the shade and that there were fans outside--so outside we went. We were completely comfortable with iced water waiting at our table. I ordered an iced honey lavender latte, which was tasty. For my meal, I got the vegan breakfast potatoes and a vegan egg-and-cheese biscuit. Both were ample and outstanding. I was shocked at how buttery the biscuit was. It was way too much food, and yet I couldn't resist eating most of it. The potatoes were flavorful and the biscuit sandwich was everything you want in southern comfort food while being vegan to boot. This decadent, rich, mouthwatering dish is responsible for many heart attacks and clogged arteries, but damn, it was delicious, satisfying every craving, from crunchy to savory, from sweet to salty, to soft, to ooeey-gooey, to acidic and bold. So many tastes! Would get this "cheat" dish over and over and over. $19 Skirt steak egg and cheese plate was solid and filling. Standard fare for a breakfast. One caveat--all the food was oversalted.
