I would eat breakfast/brunch here every day if I could. The food is delicious, the drinks are delicious, the coffee is delicious. Somehow they make quinoa taste SO GOOOD. I am not a healthy eater, but Beatrix does healthy food right. The Quinoa Cakes with the Poached Eggs are AMAZING as is the Mushroom Quinoa Burger. The Chicken Tinga is meh. Stick to anything Quinoa related here. The green juice and honey cinnamon latte are also bomb. read more

We were in Chicago for our first anniversary and had brunch here before heading out on a long drive home. Our server, Kelsey, was incredibly sweet and thoughtful. I told her I'd been trying to find an oat milk latte everywhere and she confirmed for me that the honey cinnamon latte was an excellent choice, explaining how oat milk tastes before I placed the order. Then, after she told us the specials, I mentioned that I'd intended to get the cauliflower grits but that the pecan French toast sounded too good to pass up. When our food arrived, it included cauliflower grits, which we sent back, thinking it was a mistake. Turns out, Kelsey had the dish comped for us because "we just HAD to try it." It was incredibly thoughtful of her (and ALL of our food was delicious, to boot!). Then, we mentioned that the experience was a great ending to our anniversary trip, and when she brought the bill, she also brought a slice of pumpkin pecan pie to go! She went above and beyond for us, and we wanted the owners/managers to know they have customers for life not just because of the food but because of the service. I was teetering on a 4 but felt a 3 is sufficient. I was seated towards the end of the lunch service and sat for 10 minutes before I was attended to. A server from another table attended to me and said my server would be with me soon but he could take my order. I ordered a pot roast sandwich with fries and a cup of coffee. The sandwich was amazing, cooked beautifully with caramelized onions. You couldn't ask for a better sandwich. The coffee was a proper cup of coffee which is rare to find in Chicago, in my opinion. The fries however were a real waste. I was served the bits from the bottom of the potato bucket and the amount of salt used was just overwhelming. My feet will be swollen for a week from the little bit I ate. I believe your last dish coming out of the kitchen should be as good as the first dish that came out of your kitchen. When I finished eating the place pretty much cleared out. I sat in the middle of the restaurant waiting for the server to come and ask if I needed anything else or the bill. The food here is generally good, the menu is not overwhelming, the options are fulfilling but clean and healthy, and the prices are quite fair. While you can come to dinner for entrees in the ~15-25 range, breakfast, brunch, and lunch feature options from $8-15. They also have a very convenient carry out menu for people who want breakfast on the go(or brunch/lunch on the weekends), which feature many of their regular menu items, as well as a bakery and coffee bar which means that even in between meals you can stop by to grab a freshly baked snack. I think breakfast/brunch is their best bet in terms of value, but whether you're stopping by for a full meal or aiming to just treat yo'self at 3 in the afternoon, Beatrix will probably have something for you. 3.5 stars read more

Came here for a dinner with friends on a weekday. It was fairly busy, but was still able to get a table. Service was good and provided a good ambiance to catch amongst friends; however, the food was underwhelming. Ordered the cauliflower salad and the wild mushroom risotto. I've lived in Chicago for about a year-and-a-half. When I first moved I here was on the hunt for the best locale for a no-fuss, but thoughtful dessert stop. And then came my discovery of Beatrix. Yes, the desserts are awesome. So simple, so sweet, so like-your-grandma-made. However, there's more than dessert. There's the brunch fad, there's the 9-5ers who lunch, there's the post movie crowd who need dinner. When I read that I could have my cake and eat turkey & kale meatloaf too I was over the moon. I stepped into Beatrix two weeks ago. Please note that the River North location is much more attractive and has more ambiance. The Streeterville location was abysmal. Not only was the server clearly not knowledgeable about the bar selections (from the Mezcal to the wines, the whole experience was bumbling, but endearing), but he felt more like a big box restaurant server than a refined and confident server at a Chicago staple. From the time we entered to the time we finished the entire experience felt amateur. The host quoted us 20 minutes (we were walkins and were completely fine with a wait), but sat us in less than 5. If you can't run the books after 8pm on a Saturday night there's a competency problem. Yes, I'm complaining that I was sat too early. Basically, this is a sign that you don't know the flow of your restaurant or your available capacity. The food was terrible. I'm sorry, the meatloaf was texturally fine, but the flavors were unseasoned and lacking in any depth. The gravy (I believe it was a vegetarian gravy- I'm mostly vegetarian so the more people play with vegetables, the better) was a congealed drooling of flavorless veggie stock. My date's ravioli was an awkwardly-large piece of pasta dough with some stuff in it. We made jokes that both dishes composed the final menu test of a culinary school graduate or we walked into the giant land of Mario World. Eilther option was equally uncomfortable. When we stopped to observe the dining room it looked as though the manager was jumping from fire to fire at every table instead of enjoying the wonders of conversation with content and satiated guests. Yes, the desserts are good. They are just like your grandmother made, but better. I beg Beatrix to step away from the savory and succumb to their only saving grace: pastries. read more

Solid breakfast spot! I live in the loop and this is one of my go to breakfast/brunch spots near me. I like their egg white omelette, cauliflower grits, and lemon pancakes. Good americano. My wife and I became big fans of this restaurant during our April visit to Chicago. Our return visit this week disappointed us based solely on the service. We were seated in the bar area and proceeded to try to get a servers attention for a solid 10 minutes. Finally, the hostess who seated us got us coffee. A few minutes after that someone took our order after again having difficulty getting eye contact with anyone. The entire experience was a struggle. We looked at the wrong menu, and ended up here by accident. They are known for their fresh juices and a coffee that burns fat. (We discovered this info from the nicest waiter we have ever encountered) Four of the group of five did find a delicious meal to order. The 11 year old- NOT! The kids menu didn't specify that the chicken Bebe strips are encrusted with Parmesan. (Kid hated them) But, on the Adult menu it was described correctly- so, that's a reading error on our part. They have wine, mixed drinks and a pastry case that is switched out several times a day. (With some VEGAN options!) Asparagus was delicious as was the pork shank w/mashed potatoes. We ordered a plate of Kennebec French fries to share, first. Great fries and they came with fried lemon slices (chips) and fried peppers. read more

First it was just some mild discomfort but then I got truly nauseous. It must be the fat they are using. This is a review for the coffee bar/pastry side of Beatrix. I was excited for Beatrix to open it's new Streeterville location as there's a need for a good place for sit down lunches and dinners. But Beatrix isn't only a stop for meals, the coffee bar portion opens up the possibilities throughout the day. I picked up an cappuccino and a lemon scone (on the recommendation of the staff). The scone was excellent, the lemon glaze really added some nice flavor. I was a big fan of the coffee program offering an option between Intelligentsia and Metropolis beans. It was a solid cappuccino, nice pull on the shot and passable foamed milk. Beatrix still stands out as a jack of all trades but it's not going to replace my go to coffee spot in Streeterville. read more

Please, Chicagoans.... skip this place. We came because it was on the list of top brunches in Chicago. I have no idea how it ranked past so so! The menu options are so limited. You can't even make your own omelet. If Brussel sprouts and eggs sound good then by all means give it a go. If you plan on having an expensive liquid brunch, eat here. The Mimosas are tasty but $9 a glass. If you're looking for a homemade breakfast with a variety of flavors then take a pass. I ordered eggs your way. The food was luke warm at best. The hash browns are frozen squares with no flavor. I asked if I could add onions and they put them on the side. You get two tiny pieces of whole wheat toast (only option) and a side of bacon. My hubs ordered the Chimichuri Steak. Besides cold, the steak was very rubbery. Same sides included frozen hash brown squares and wheat toast. We are beyond disappointed. The only reason I think this place stays around is because of the tourists. There can't be repeat customers! read more

We loved this restaurant so much we went back for a second dinner and a snack. The service was excellent every time; our food arrived speedily, and when we said we had a concert to get to, the waitperson was very accomodating. We enjoyed the wild mushrooms starter, the homemade ravioli, the brioche-encrusted branzino, and my husband went back for chocolate coffee cake, which he said was out of this world. Went to this joint last night for dinner with a group of friends, and I must say that this meal was worth every cent! We ordered the quinoa cakes and deviled eggs for starters and I was totally blown away by both. The cakes had just the right texture and consistency, and the filling in the eggs was amazing! For my "plat", I ordered the Prime Burger on a bun and done medium-rare with a topping of giardiniera and aged white cheddar. It was PHENOMENAL! The meat was cooked exactly how I wanted it and the homemade bun was heavenly. The accompanying fries were slightly overdone but I like them crispy so it was no issue! The happy ending was an amazing Banana Split, which was nothing like an actual banana split. It came in an old-fashioned glass. I had a party in my mouth with pieces of warm banana, vanilla ice cream and a drizzle of maple-rosemary syrup. You MUST order this if you have a sweet tooth. What stood out most for me, however, was the exemplary service provided by DANNY. He is the politest and most knowledgeable staff member I have ever come across in a restaurant. He checked in with us regularly throughout the meal, and shared back stories about all the food that we ordered. He even tolerated our check division. There were 5 of us and he divided it up for us without any hesitation (our check was really complicated!). The gratuities probably don't do him justice and I hope Beatrix's management will read this review and commend Danny on our group's behalf for such a wonderful experience. The food was, of course, delicious but Danny on his own made the meal just as memorable. I will definitely be coming back to Beatrix and I am confident that I will receive the same service as last night. read more

Went for the brunch buffet and loved it. The pleasant surprise, however, was their amazing hamburgers. I'm somewhat of a hamburger snob and my son ordered one for his meal. I was blown away at how good it was. Terrifically nice staff as well. On one visit there was quite a wait and I was concerned about our meter running out. They asked how long I had left and instead of making me run 4 blocks to feed the meter, they made sure we were seated in time to order and eat within my meter time. Never would have expected this. My wife and I spent the last 10 days visiting close family in NWestern hospital. We ended up eating several meals or grabbing coffee in the afternoon here. The staff was always friendly and helpful. Today was our last day, so I was there early to help take our family member home. I was surprised to see a breakfast menu, but not surprised at how great the food was. I mentioned to my waitress how much we appreciated having a good comfortable place to eat while dealing with the stress of a loved one being in the hospital. I discovered a problem with my plane tix home and while I made a quick call to straighten it out, the server came by with my check which had been comped by the manager. I almost cried. Came here for lunch on a Friday (after mistakenly going to the River North location) with a colleague. Was seated immediately. The ambiance is great for a casual lunch, and it's not too pricey. I really love the decor here, and it's nice that it's close to mag mile but not directly on Michigan Ave. Both of us got the Grilled Chicken Sandwich (mine was sans Chimichurri) and really enjoyed it. The bread was lightly toasted, the spinach and tomatoes were fresh (albeit a bit messy), and the side salad was amazing. Not 100% sure what was in it-- apples, sunflower seeds and a very light dressing I think? But I ate it all. So good! I definitely will keep Beatrix in my rotation for work lunches, and I want to come back for dinner and brunch! read more

Awesome brunch! I got the cauliflower grits and it was SO delicious. Bf got the quinoa cakes thing. We both loved our food and it felt healthy. We also tried the blueberry juice - good but somewhat overpowering after a few sips. Bf also really wanted to try bulletproof coffee so we got it and it was indeed amazing. I can still taste the butter...Anyway, 4 stars because it's definitely a bit pricey for what you get - but then again, what brunch isn't? read more
