OMG! I went here with my husband to give it a try. We had a piece of pizza which tasted like cardboard and grease! Total garbage! One of the all time worst pizzas ever! If you enjoy eating tasteless greasy salty cardboard pizza then this is the perfect place for you! Unfortunately I cannot recommend this establishment and left feeling short changed. The restaurant itself is in unclean depressing and dark. Utensils are filthy! Unfortunately I cannot know good conscience recommend this restaurant and I warn you not to dine here as there are many great places in Chicago that serve awesome pizza without an attitude! The pizza slices resemble that of a mess and globs of thick fake cheese on top! Just horrid tasting pizza! Employees are rude and clueless on how to answer the phone and deal with the customers and require much training. The pizza was so disappointing and disgusting! It made us want to vomit. I've been very happy with the slices from the Clinton Street location. The one time I had it delivered was ok too. Whereas the slices from the store seem like a fine value, a whole pie delivered was $30 bucks. I didn't feel ripped off, but when the hell did pizzas start costing $30 bucks??? I blame Starbucks customers. They'll pay any price and all businesses notice that, and before you know it, everything is affected by "inflation." I call it "suckers ruining it for the rest of us." Rant is over. Sometimes too much cheese is just what you need, so it's not really too much. And it's made of fat, like your brain. So eating pizza makes you smarter. (I am not a scientist.) Really had to think about this one. Wife wanted to try Chicago deep dish pizza and we had plenty of time before our train departure, and Beggars is just across the street. So away we went for a pizza pie lunch. Beggars doesn't leave the best first impression upon entry. It's not clear if patrons should seat themselves, or wait to be seated. One side of the place is a pickup and lunch counter, the other side is the seating for the restaurant. Eventually, we were greeted and seated, but not the warmest welcome. The interior appears more like a run down food court than a deep dish pizza place where patrons might want to while away a lazy lunch or dinner. Patrons must get a passcode to enter the restrooms. Nevertheless, we were presented menus and ordered our pizza with an appetizer of onion rings. Onion rings were nothing special, undoubtedly dumped from a brown paper bag. I'm quite familiar with them. A decent selection of beer. Then our pizza came and it was very good. By my measure, a good Chicago pizza should have a flaky sidewall and not be damp and soggy in the center. We ordered onion and garlic for toppings and they were added in just the right proportion. Beggars achieved. Plus, the sauce was sweet and tangy, and the toppings were generous. Wifey really liked it. I'm not sure quite what to make of Beggars. It seems most of the menu is bar food, but the pizza was quite nice and cut above everything else. Perusing the menu, Beggars offers a spaghetti Bolognese for about $8, which is ridiculously cheap for a place in the shadow of Willis Tower. If Beggars is to be understood as a lunch place for the downtown workers that, by the way, makes a mean Chicago pizza, it works well. If, however, it's considered a pizza destination, it just doesn't quite meet the measure. Regardless, we had a really nice pizza and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend the pizza to others. read more

GREAT pizza!!! I always get thin crust since they "lay it on thick". Always EXCELLENT customer service! If you dine in, Samantha is GREAT. She is a very personable and attentive server. When I order to go, there's a young Black male at the counter who takes orders. He is always very friendly. Spilled my shot of Dewar's and Erica was right there to assist with cleanup and brought a fresh shot ASAP. My favorite manager, Venus, was not working, but Maria was there with a smile. I love this Beggar's because besides the great food and excellent customer service, you can choose to dine in with or without a server. They also have plenty of televisions to catch your favorite game. FYI...Year round, it is ALWAYS cold in here, so be sure to dress warm! It's hard to enjoy your food when you're cold. read more

Not the best Beggars location. I've tried just about every Beggars in the south suburbs, and I've never been let down. I've always received the same amazing pizza. To my surprise, this particular location tastes SLIGHTLY different than what I'm used to. I couldn't put my finger on it, but it seemed like there was something missing ingredient wise... The pizza was still good though. I was dining with a friend from out of town, and she loved it! The service was ok, nothing exceptional. The pizza took about 45 minutes, which is normal. This my second coming to Chicago since when I was a teenager. I always have my hope up for Chicago style deep dish pizza, because I always liked New York style which is the thin crust. Beggar is a decent place to grab for a quick bite or lunch on a weekday. Me and my friend we ordered two of their signature sausage deep dish pizza, and a order of their meatballs sub. The price was fair $20 with a large drink. About their pizza maybe I didn't came to the right place to have Chicago deep dish pizza but it was decent. The pizza served a little below room temperature, which wasn't appealing to my appetite especially on a cold windy day. That was a miss star for me. The meatballs sub was good. It was hot and steamy. So I was happy about that. After all, I will try maybe another place for deep dish pizza to determine if deep dish is better than thin crust. read more

Strange little pizza restaurant. I almost didn't go because one of my Yelp friends gave them a 2 Star rating and I trust her. Especially when it comes to pizza. However, it was late, I was tired and didn't want to venture to far from my hotel. It satisfied my pizza craving and killed the hunger pains, but I was not totally impressed. The place in itself is weird and confusing, does not have a well laid out floorplan. I thought it was all order at the counter service, which I was totally comfortable with. However, once I got my pizza and was seated in the dining area, other diners were receiviing table service. How do they keep straight who is who. One table was waiting and finally an employee who was running food, stopped and asked them if they wanted table service. I'd be so confused and I'm an organized man. Any way, I ordered a thin crust pizza with pepperoni and a deep dish with sausage. Being from Saint Louis, I naturally favor a thin crust pizza, but when I come to Chi-Town, I want to experience deep dish. The deep dish here was a major disappointment. It being served at U.S. Cellular Field home of the White Sox, did not impress me. The sauce on top is always a treat, but this deep dish crust was no where near the quality I have experienced at other Chicago pizza joints. My thin crust pepperoni was actually good. The bottom of the crust has nice charred crispiness to it. The top was covered with a good amount of cheese and plenty of the heart stopping pepperoni. Now to answer the $1.99 question, would I come back. Yes, if necessary, but I would not make it an priority or effort. read more

Simply, it was just OK. And there's nothing wrong with just OK. Just OK can be reliable. Walking in I wasn't aware there was an option for by-the-slice which I would've preferred to do much more. We ended up ordering a pizza, but since it was the lunch rush there was a little bit of a wait... but that's expected. There wasn't really anything in particular that stood out about the pizza when it did arrive, but I would probably come back for a slice or two. Food - 4/5 Pretty good pizza. I got the spinach deep dish and man was it fulfilling. Paid around $5 for 1 slice. The sauce was way too sweet and was not fresh. Other than that it was very good. Lots of cheese and Spanish and was not watery or soggy like other deep dish pizza places such as Lou Malnati's and you could actually eat this pizza by hand without a for or knife.
