IMHO I think Bella James is the only clothing boutique on Lincoln Ave. between Willow and Minnesota Aves. My friends and I were commiserating about that lack, when suddenly we saw it from across the street and ran over! Such a beautifully merchandised store of curated women's clothing and accessories. I saw many lovely, trendy, unique styles and pretty colors to peruse. I didn't try on or buy anything...because I had just treated myself to a new pair of shoes elsewhere, but if money was no object, I'd love to treat myself to a new outfit from Bella James. read more

Popped in here on my lunch break, I happened to work in our Willow glen location today, glad I did. They carry Mother Jeans & some cute spring clothes. I called BellaJames at about 12:45 on a Friday. Martha answered and said she had a few jackets that might work for my outfit. I showed up 10 minutes later with my dress, she put me in a dressing room and kept bringing me jackets to complete my look. But, she would have been perfectly fine if I purchased nothing - she just wanted me to look and feel great for my presentation that evening. Even though I was in a bit of a hurry, no one tried to sell me the wrong thing, but they took good care of me and quickly! It was my first time at BellaJames, but it won't be my last. So I walked in to shop , probably not dressed the way the the ladies expected I might but I was looking for some nice clothes for work . I work for a large corporation. And I must say I was never so stereotyped or treated so badly ever . The ladies we greeting other customers and just ignored me . Never offered assistance to me or even acknowledge my presence . I don't usually give 1 star, but I've been pretty disappointed with the (lack of) customer service at Bella James. Today was probably my 5th time going into the store without being greeted. I don't mind if the salespeople want to give customers space, but a simple "hello" would be nice! I spent about 15 minutes in the store. I was soo tempted to buy a pair of Paige denim and white tank which would total about $150. I was holding the items when a sales lady walked over to a customer right next to me. She greeted her, "Hi, how are you? I haven't seen you in forever!", looked at me, and then walked back to the register. She then went on to greet 2 other customers who walked in. Bella James, if you want to continue to get new customers, perhaps you could treat them a little better? read more

I have been shopping at Bella James since they first opened. Recently I became aware that they sell hats with real mink pompoms and real mink slippers. In this day and age, who still sells animal pelts as part of clothing? It is really quite disgusting that Bella James feels the need to sell items that use these poor exploited and tortured animals for pleasure. There are so many awesome faux fur options out there. I wrote to them and they did respond. Basically, their message back to me is go ahead and shop somewhere else, we're going to continue selling whatever we feel like selling. Love the new store! It's great that they finally have a street facing storefront, and it's more than twice as spacious as their old location inside the WG Garden Theater. It's so much easier to browse now. I tried on a few cute dresses and tops recommended by one of the sweet sales associates, and ended up getting one that was a top long enough on me to wear as a super cute sun dress by Hazel. It was a bargain at $60 with their promotional discount on the day of the fashion show. Bella James is a great shop for stylish women of all ages. They carry brands like Free People, Ella Moss, Velvet, William Rast, Hudson, Seven and Citizens of Humanity, as well as a few shoes by Steve Madden and Charles David. Do not let their "aesthetically pleasing" publicity stunts fool you! I did, and I can honestly say that I will never shop at BellaJames ever, ever, EVER again! The last experience I had there, I was treated so poorly by one of their employees who gave curt responses to my questions in such a sarcastic/disrespectful tone that I felt as if I were a "pest" rather than a valued customer. In my opinion, she was the one who had a giant stick up the "you know where" probably because I was not telling her s*** don't stink. Talk about a "wolf in sheep's clothing." Also, the prices there are WAY too high for the kind of cheap quality clothing they want to pawn off onto unsuspecting customers. The other employees? Amateurs! Alright, I see I'm not alone. I hate complaining about service in places, because I honestly empathize with store workers having a bad day, or being super busy and not paying attention to me, whatever. But this is clearly a trend as evidenced by the other reviews - and it wasn't just one salesperson. I was really excited when I first walked into this store. The clothes were super cute. But not once did anyone offer to help me in any way or manner - and I was in there a good 20 minutes. As I walked toward the back, I noticed there was a Miranda Frye trunk show. I was super stoked! I love Miranda Frye jewelry. I was looking at pieces, and I swear the sales ladies were just staring me down super rudely. Not once did anyone acknowledge I was there, or ask if I needed help, or even really bother to explain what was happening. Also, this part I was super sad panda about. There were mimosas with the trunk show, and I never got offered one. Let me be clear, I was dressed very well that day. Was rockin' my new taupe suede ankle boots with leather leggings, a designer flannel with a JCrew statement necklace, and my Kate Spade quilted purse. So idk what their problem was. Maybe the mimosas were only for people who actually bought the jewelry, but I saw lots of people browsing with them and I was sad, because mimosas are my favorite. I went into this store today as it was recommended to me by a friend. She was wearing a lovely dress and I asked where she had gotten it - she told me Bella James so in I went. I had read most of the reviews about customer service being poor and I have to agree, it was terrible. I think there were maybe 5 staff or friends of staff hanging around and I got one half-hello and that is it. No offer of help, NOTHING. I do not expect red carpet service but I expect more than the once over and a half assed hello. Real shame, I live locally, I had money to spend and wanted to spend it however I lost interest after 10 mins. Instead of having to go to a department store for my Maddie M., Free People, and designer goodies, I can just go to Bella James. Bella James is one, of a handful of boutiques on Lincoln Avenue that carry a limited selection of stylish clothing for women. Although they have a smaller selection than department stores, they always have the hottest items. I can find almost everything here--denim jeans, tops, dresses, scarves, lingerie, and even shoes here. Such a gem in downtown Willow Glen! I stopped in the other day to look for a couple of items to wear to some holiday events. I'm glad I stopped here because it was much better than fighting the crowd at Nordstrom. I feel like this place is a mini women's Nordstrom. They even have my favorite denim Paige and my other fav brand sanctuary. Also they have a few local designers as well. The ladies working here were extremely helpful in helping me find the perfect outfit and jewelry to coordinate. My outfits were super cute and stylish. The price was comparable to Nordstrom. I got 2 tops, 1 sweater jacket, and one necklace for about $350. Pretty pricey but hey saved me a lot of time and way more personable. Will be back and It would be nice if they had a sale from time to time. Or maybe spend so much and then get a free gift card. read more

This store is amazing!! I never leave without something I love and the ladies who work there are all so helpful! They have really cool events there too like trunk shows for certain designers and even a mens event. Bella James is truly a gem in Willow Glenn, in the Bay Area entirely to be more honest. I really started to hate shopping because the level of customer service in the area is, in my opinion at an all time low. Larger retailers must only pay minimum wage because they sales associates they have couldn't be bothered to help you. At least 90% of my clothing has come from BellaJames. I love this boutique, from the sweet employees to the quality clothing. Multiple times a year they put on trunk shows with brand representatives for contemporary brands such as Paige, Michael stars, and 7 for all mankind. Every time I'm in need of a new pair of denim, I find the staff to be so knowledgeable about their brands. They carry plenty of junior brands that don't break the bank but also brands that feature women entrepreneurs! Love that! More importantly they stand behind their product! I once had a sweater with a fault in the shoulder and they offered to repair it or replace it. Every time I visit BellaJames I leave feeling on top of the world! Bella James is my favorite bay area boutique! The location is amazing! If you are in Downtown Willow Glen, you must stop in here! I have never been disappointed by the selection at Bella James, the owners have a great eye for what is in style and what is comfortable. I've been a willow glen resident for 10 years, but never had a chance to walk in this store. I heard they carried Mother Denim. So I went today post yoga class. Guess I wasn't dressed "fancy" enough in a tank, yoga pants and Birkenstock's. There were 3 customers including me and the other two were greeted, asked if they needed a fitting room and then started one. I never got an acknowledgement. Walked out feeling pretty crummy. Super cute clothes, but the workers seem racist! My sister & I walked in to look at the clothes and they didn't offer us help, didn't greet, didn't smile, nothing! Just mugged us with the look of hoping we wouldn't try on the clothes. Minutes later two Caucasian females walk in and were quickly greeted and offered help. I really like the brands they stock and the fact that the store is just the right size. But, the thing I love about Bella James is that they're always keeping their inventory fresh. The older items they mark down to keep the stock moving. Which means you have a pretty good chance of finding a great outfit for date night or your next vacation. I've gotten quite a few cute things here. Their customer service has gotten better as well (still not perfect, but a LOT better).
