Visited on a business trip. Location is great as it is within walking distance of several hotels in the immediate area. Sat at the bar and service was ok. Had the wedge salad and was a little soupy with dressing. Scallop Agnolotti which was very good. Beer was warm as the bartender explained they have been having issues with the beer tap cooler. In all honesty I will never go back. Our server seemed to be running around like a chicken with his head cut off. In other words the service was not too attentive. I wanted to substitute the mashed potatoes with coleslaw but was rather forcefully told "no substitutions". The steak was good I will say but potatoes were bland and who in heaven's name likes Brussels sprouts? The restaurant has an industrial feel to it with terrible acoustics. We tried the new steakhouse on a Thursday night. The interior is beautifully designed, with a noise level that was pleasant. (I'm so tired of large, modern, echoing spaces that make conversation impossible.) Service was excellent -- knowledgeable, attentive, but not intrusive. We had the wedge salad, lobster bisque, steak fries, broccolini, filets mignons, and lemon tart. The food was truly delicious, well prepared, flavorful, and generouly portioned. I recommend the Korean steak sauce! The one exception was the bisque, which was overly reduced to a paste consistency; the owner noticed our dissatisfaction and offered a replacement dish. We said no, he took it off our bill, and everything else was fantastic. It was handled perfectly so we left very satisfied. Will definitely return for a date night. The place is also well suited to groups, with a beautiful wine room for private parties. The Benchmark is a fantastic addition to the Perrysburg/Toledo dining scene! read more

I've been here twice, first time got a steak it was a good steak but steak doesn't get me all that excited so I wasn't too impressed. This last time I was a lot more impressed. They start you off with their bread which is solid, I think they are called popovers; whatever it is they are definitely pretty good. After that I got a ceaser salad which was perfect in every way (quality of greens, flavor of dressing, quantity of dressing, cheese, dispersion of cheese, croutons, and quantity of croutons) most places screw one of those things up. For my main course I got their burger which was one of the best burgers I have had around Toledo. Some may mock getting a burger at a higher end steak place but to me its a good judge of any American restaurant (the cheese pizza at a pizza place, the vanilla cone at an ice cream spot). I always come back to Social having the best burger and after eating the burger here I found out the chef came from Social so this makes sense. This burger was definitely up there with Social's but I would need to have it a couple more times to pick a winner. The burger checked all the boxes, bun was good, good amount of cheese, good pickles and quantity of pickles, onions sliced thinly, bacon was perfect and overall the burger wasn't too messy. The only improvements I would make would be to add some arugula, swap the cheese out for a cheddar that is not as sharp and while the dijonnaise was definitely not bad I personally prefer more of a garlic aioli. These things would make it the perfect burger in my book definitely edging Social's. The burger also came with fries, it was a generous portion and they were good, better then most but not earth shattering. After that we got dessert which might actually be what I was most impressed with. I don't care for chocolate and as a result cheesecake is usually the only option. I almost never get dessert when at a restaurant but a couple times a year for special occasions I might default to cheese cake or something. They recommended the Bourbon Toffee Sticky Cake with vanilla ice cream, which turned out to be pretty incredible I honestly don't think I have ever had a cake this good and definitely never had a dessert I liked that much at a restaurant. If your a big chocolate eater there are probably better chocolate cakes out there but for a non chocolate guy this was awesome and impressed me they think outside of the chocolate box. My wife got the house salad and a flank steak, she liked them both. I can't really speak in any detail on those items but they did both look good to me as well. read more

Just celebrated our 38th wedding anniversary at Benchmark with Matt as our server. What a delight. Great drinks, and perfect food. Nothing we asked to modify was a problem. Generous portions. If I were forced to criticize, the booths are too wide for couples, so I would ask for a table and sit at the corners rather than a booth. Went with a group of 10 and was thrilled with the experience. Our waiter was so personable, knowledgeable, and attentive. The restaurant is gorgeous and we loved the privacy of the back room. All of our meals were prepared perfectly and were absolutely delicious. I can highly recommend the "airline chicken" and the sea bass. Rave reviews from the table about the creamed spinach, steaks, duck (although small), and pork chops (huge portion). Most entrees were around $30 while a la carte sides were around $7. I did notice they had a gourmet burger at a very reasonable $12, but no one at our table ordered it. Hubby and I had two entrees with a shared starter salad, no alcohol, and our meal was $80. Extremely overrated. Had their aged ribeye was not impressed. Unfortunately the restaurant is more like eye candy then it is substance. By California standards this is not a steakhouse it's just an over spun Bistro fortunately most people who live in Toledo do not know the difference because there really is not any restaurants that truly stand out. If you are from out of town you will be deeply disappointed. The steak I ordered medium rare it came out with a cool center very chewy not a very great cut of meat period out of 16 oz only about 10 ounces were edible the rest was just complete fat. The food presentation, timing, quality, and quantity were on point! However, we were really disappointed in the service. I wish the service was at the same high standards as the food. Here's what happen: it was my first time at Benchmark. However, my dinner companion has been to the establishment before. We arrived before the Friday evening peak dinner time. Our server came over and said, hello... I asked, if there were any specials or chef recommendations? In addition, I asked some questions about the wine selection. My questions were nothing challenging or special! During these conversations, our server would give me a look of annoyance and disgust! I asked my companion, if she noticed the irritation as well or was it just me? She noticed the irritation. Next, we placed our bottle of wine and appetizers order... While waiting for our bottle and appetizers, our server came back and asked, what we were having for dinner? We apologized and replied, we needed more time. Due to, my companion and I were busy having conversations... Our server came back again, asked if we were ready, we apologized again and requested more time. Then our server proceeds to tell us, they need our menus back for the peak time. I was extremely surprised by that statement and never had a server say that to me before. My companion and I felt uncomfortable with the experience from the server... We tried to make conversation with our server to show we were kind individuals. However, that idea did not work for us. At this point, there was a family of 4 seated next us and the same server gave them excellent service. The server, answered all their questions and even brought them over different wines to taste. Then only 2 individuals from that party ordered a glass of wine. My companion and I were completely baffled and surprised by what was happening! I asked to only taste one wine, to make sure we wanted to order a bottle of it. However, I was told that was not allowed. What's interesting, if you were to breakdown what the party of 4 spent to what my party of 2 spent. My party spent more money per person. Our bill without gratuity was just over $180.00. My dinner companion and I were more than happy with the cost. In addition, we tipped our server at 30% at the $180.00 level, even though service was disappointing. I would go back to Benchmark. Only, If I NEVER had that server again! I wish, I could say they were having an off night. However, that was not the case! Very impressed with my first visit to Benchmark with my wife last night. We arrived for an early dinner (around 5pm) and were seated immediately. Our waiter Jeffrey greeted us and took our drink order. Nice menu choices. Good selection of appetizers. We ordered the thick cut maple syrup drizzled bacon for an appetizer and I was very impressed. Absolutely delicious My wife ordered the 10oz sirloin, and I ordered the 16 oz rib eye, both were very tender and cooked as ordered I ordered a black truffle bernaise sauce with my steak that I highly recommend. My steak had a great outside char with a medium rare inside that was nice and juicy. We were both sorry that we didn't mixup our sides (we both ordered smashed Yukon Gold potatoes with sea salt and vinegar, which neither of us cared for. Checked this place out recently. Very nice inside: open and spacious. Our waiter was incredible. I ordered steak and it came out slightly overcooked. He whisked it back to the kitchen and got a new one made. I had my steak topped with extras and those were delicious. Fellow diner also had streak. Theirs was also slightly overcooked. Tasty steak. Well seasoned. Only reason a 4 and not a 5 is that both steaks came out overcooked. However, restaurant fixed quickly so a def plus. Will definitely try again when back in town!!! read more

We experienced NYE at this lovely upscale restaurant. Is it possible to give 10 stars? From the moment we entered we were greeted and treated like family. The five course preset menu, set for the holiday experience, was beyond what we had imagined. Each course was like a piece of original art placed in front of us by a wait staff who was not only well trained and willing to answer any question thoroughly, but moved like a synchronized team. Each course represented unique tastes that simply melted in your mouth. The owners were pointed out to us and they were all around the dining area greeting the guests and pitching in where needed. Two and one half hours flew by as we comfortably enjoyed the decor, the many details to service, and food to the likes we can only compare to a Michelin restaurant in Germany. The young owners have a winning combination of style, impeccable service, and tastes that are so succulent you feel you have arrived in food heaven. I have no doubt, as we travel around the country, a repeat stop at Benchmark will be on our travel agenda. read more

I have gone now twice. Once with my family and once with some coworkers. I have a hard time giving this place 2 stars but I did appreciate the overall ambiance and the staff were kind. This unfortunately is where my positivity ends. On my first trip I ordered the Lobster Bisque, Feta dip and 16oz Ribeye. My wife got a bowl of Lobster Bisque and filet. The Lobster Bisque was sweet and had no other real flavor outside of the lobster chunks but that was overpowered by the odd taste. I am sure but there are probably people that would enjoy that however we are not those people. I have had high end Lobster Bisque at Hyde Park in Columbus and lower price at Zoup and Rosie's in Maumee and Lamplight in Perrysburg. I prefer the Lobster Bisque at all of those locations over what I had here. My steak, for a $35+ ribeye a la carte, I expect a well cooked, prepared to temp requested steak. In this case medium, and the meat tender. The steak came out medium well to well and was tougher than I would have expected. The feta dip we had was the best part of the trip. I am a fan of never judging a new place on first impressions so I gave this another shot when some coworkers had suggested Nagoya. We went here, this time the service was less impressive but by looking around it appeared that this might have just been our waiter. Everyone else seemed attended to. I tried the French Onion soup and the prime bone in ribeye Butcher's cut. The French onion soup was okay, I have ordered a bone in ribeye at Final Cut in the casino and it was beautiful. This was okay, the steak was more tender this time, still medium well to well but was also full of chewy fat. When you order a prime ribeye you expect a certain amount of fat due to the marbled meat. I was not however expecting the big clumps of fat that you would normally see in a USDA Choice or Select steak. Everyone in my work party were also uninspired by the visit and wished that they had gone to Nagoya. I will most likely give them another shot in a few months to see if they improve because I am a huge fan of locally owned restaurants and Perrysburg has a big need for a mid-high end steakhouse and they have potential. I was looking forward to trying this new restaurant as I love steaks. I was with a group on a business trip and even with an unlimited expense account I found this place expensive. I would rate the food average to average+ . my real issue was the cost of the wine !!!! Most restaurants charge 2- 21/2 times what you can buy a bottle of wine at a wine store, not the case here and not even close. To compound my disappointment when I asked the manager about this he said "it is what it is " and basically walked away. Between the 4 of us we spent $325 and walked away not impressed. So I heard some good things about this place, so my family decided to give it a try right before the New Years. We got the crabcake (it's just one single, big one), and shrimp cocktail for apps. Crabcake was pretty good. No too oily, not too much breading. Wish I knew it was just one. We were thinking we would get a few small ones to split. The shrimp was large and not the puny little ones. As for entrees, dad got the traditional 6 oz filet, I got a 22 oz prime cowboy ribeye, sister got the sea bass, and mom and the family friend got the swordfish. Sis's bf got the Hanger steak. My dad said the filet was pretty good. My cowboy was a bit more on the rare than medium rare side. A bit chewier than I would have liked. Since our first trip we've been back three times. Last night's experience left us feeling that maybe this place still has a lot of kinks to work out. We ordered the duck and the pork belly porchetta and both were less than stellar. The duck confit was rubbery and chewy and the pork belly was dry and tough. Both of these dishes are supposed to be unctuous and tender, but no such luck. The polenta was dry, not creamy, and bland. I've had the broccolini here before, but last night it was prepared by someone with a heavy hand on the bagna-cauda. Service was very, very bad. I also ordered French onion soup and was disappointed after reading the rave reviews, since it was pretty bland. We had the espresso mousse for dessert and I would recommend that one to all coffee lovers. We had jack as our waiter and he did a great job of explaining the menu and giving us a fine dining experience. The atmosphere of the restaurant is really cool as well. I was very surprised at how well everything was executed. This restaurant was recommended to me by friends from New Jersey and Boston... I was curious. Even though most Yelpers have reviewed this restaurant with around 4 stars, it was better. The cocktails were very good, the staff was professional yet friendly and the owner/chef (Jeff) happily entertained guests when he wasn't running the kitchen. This restaurant doesn't have a freezer if that speaks to the freshness of the ingredients. We had maple bacon stacks and crab cakes over a Cajun like sauce for appetizers. Our guests from the Cleveland area regularly dine at Chez Francois (considered by many the best French restaurant in Ohio) were very surprised and said they would eat here every night if they could. We each decided to try an entree meat from each category: beef, pork, fish, and chicken. I thought for sure someone would be disappointed. Not. 4 for 4. Went with another couple on a Friday night. They had been here once before. Our first time. Packed restaurant, very loud. Server said they're planning to add sound deadening material soon. Service was excellent. Had wedge salad and wife had the house salad to start. Both very good. Other couple ordered special prime filet and duck. Filet ordered medium and came medium rare. Friends wife sent it back and returned at correct temperature. Duck came 10 minutes after the rest of us received our food, but friend said it was the best he'd ever had. They had similar issues with improperly cooked steaks at their first visit. My ribeye however was cooked perfectly. Wife absolutely loved her filet. She ate the whole thing and she never does that. Shared sides of mushrooms, asparagus, mash potatoes and bernaise sauce were excellent. Ordered one pot of French press coffee (enough for 4 of us). Shared lemon tart dessert with wife. Very good. Overall we had a great dinner despite the issues our friends had with their meals. I would recommend this restaurant. read more

I went for a birthday celebration for a friend. The service was superb. Three out of four meals were enjoyed. My meal was terrible. Overcooked fish, greasy fried potatoes for an entrée that ,with salad, cost 40 dollars. It did not even look appetizing on the plate. I could have received a better meal at any standard restaurant. My friends raved about the lamb chops and steaks. Avoid sea food at this establishment. Also expect a leisurely dinning experience. This establishment would never work for a quick lunch hour. Entrees for dinner took over an hour to reach the table with a three course meal. read more

Best part of the meal- Popovers and homemade butter! By far, of all we had, they were the bomb. The popovers are crispy and light with a sprinkling of browned gruyere cheese and butter is creamy, salty and delicious!!! The rest of the meal was just so-so. My hubby had seared scallops and grilled asparagus. Honesty, the scallops weren't all that great and the portion was really small. I'm not quite sure why they only give you one side with the meal considering you're only getting 4 scallops. I, on the other hand, got two sides with my salmon (a large portion of salmon). My sides were grilled asparagus and spring succotash. The salmon was fine, nothing outstanding, the asparagus was delicious and the succotash was...odd and there was a lot of it. I shared it with my husband. I can't put my finger on what was odd about it but it put me off a bit. I had macerated berries and marscapone cheese for dessert, which was so good and my hubby had a shot of espresso and home made ice cream which he enjoyed. IN A NUTSHELL- delicious bread and butter, decent desserts, less than satisfactory meals, a huge wait for our meal (literally the whole experience took two hours), a very good server, and an incredibly loud and headache inducing, scream to your husband whose sitting right next to you atmosphere...sadly we won't be back. read more

They used to have an amazing Mac and cheese, like world champion Mac and cheese, but they changed it :( I've literally heard people discussing this topic and hopeful for the day when they bring back the old recipe!
