Just a tiny half-slice of ham...and it had cheese on it. Cheese? Not very classic Cuban. Pork was seasoned well but a tad dry. The real issue was the black beans and rice. As you can see in the pic the rice was way too wet and just globbed together on the spoon and in the container. Both the beans and rice desperately needed salt, and some hot sauce helped. So thankful the CFA was moved next to this location otherwise I wouldn't have known they were here. Since so many restaurants are closing in or near downtown or their pricing is so outlandish, you really appreciate having a place that is consistently good food and average pricing. I've only tried them for breakfast. I've had their omelets a couple of years ago, but most recently have been going for their chicken and waffle breakfast ($13). The stall is quick, you have several sando options to pic from and if you're not eating Pork, they have a Havana Sanwich made with pulled beef instead of Pork. Solid options. The have maduros as well, which are fresh and tasty. I got the Cuban and I'm in love at first bite. It's pressed, it has a crunch to the bread with a good chew and solid flavor all around. Sandwich was $12.50 and the maduros were $4! While I wasn't overly impressed with the Cuban sandwich, the ropa vieja was so good (especially for a "fast food" place) that I ate here THREE times when I was in Atlanta for Dragon Con over Labor Day weekend. They also worked whatever (usually small) line they had pretty fast and when I asked for some salt even gave me a little container of some sort of special/seasoned salt. I love this spot, so glad I found it. It's in the Hub shops underground. I went for breakfast and got the Cuban eggs and a Cuban coffee. OMG - the eggs have veggies in the scramble and come with a side of black beans and cuban bread. They also give a little container of hot sauce that makes everything SING. I felt my mojo chicken was quite overcooked and a little bitter, and that the sides (rice, beans, and plantains) were fairly average. Also, $14 for a cafeteria-style lunch of modest portion size seemed a little steep (that said, it's early 2022, and I have no idea what things should cost anymore). The Mall at Peachtree Center's food court - I mean, "The Hub at Peachtree Center" (that's what this place has been rebranded and remarketed as) has really stepped up its game. They've introduced some good new eateries in recent years and Cuban restaurant Beni's Cubano is one of them. Beni's opened in November 2017 and is a product of Southern Proper Hospitality Group, the same restaurant group behind Tin Lizzy's (there's a Tin Lizzy's location at Peachtree Center, upstairs from Beni's) and other Atlanta restaurants like Gypsy Kitchen and The Big Ketch Saltwater Grill. This is the second Beni's to open in metro Atlanta. The original opened in Marietta/East Cobb in June 2017. Beni's has a corner stall near the CVS wing of The Hub. They've completely renovated the stall and it looks updated and modern with colorful, patterned wall tile, Edison lighting, and distressed wood. There are bright, crisp menu displays mounted above and behind a serving counter that features two sandwich presses. You can watch the staff press each sandwich to order. The menu is simple. Beni's offers entrees with yellow or white rice, black beans, and sweet plantains ($13-15 each), salads ($7) with a variety of meat options (plus $5-7), smaller items and sides ($2.50-6.50), sandwiches ($9-13), and mango and other fruit juices ($3). Examples of entrees include mojo-grilled chicken, vaca frita (crispy pulled beef) and ropa vieja (tomato-and-sofrito-braised beef). Examples of some of the smaller items include beef and chicken & cheese empanadas and yuca fries. The "peppers" described on the menu turned out to be sliced and cooked red bell pepper. The rice and beans hit the spot. The rice was nice and moist with good flavor. The sweet plantains were yummy. I valet parked (it was $20). Parking in that area seems complicated, but I was in a rush & it was so worth it! I ordered the Cuban sandwich and it tasted so good! I could not stop eating it lol. I really enjoy Cuban food and was really excited when I found out about Beni's. It wasn't too far from hotel so off I went. This location is located in the peachtree mall and very unassuming. Based on the reviews fromyelp, I had to order the empanadas and puerco asado. The platter also came with yellow rice, black beans and plantains. Like others have said, the pork was very moist and had good flavor. I have never had it with peppers but it worked. The plantains were pretty awesome and the empanadas were good. Walking around downtown for the first time in years, I popped into the Peachtree mall(now called the Hub). There was little wait given the new COVID world and I was excited for the opportunity to try Beni's. The gal behind the counter recommended the Cuban with gusto. I for one am glad she did. Watching her assemble the sand which, I was less than impressed. Deli ham and serving station didn't instill confidence. I did hear the customer ahead of my ask for a side of house made hot sauce and extra aioli. That's a PRO tip. The sand which was fantastic. The pork was so tender and well seasoned. The bread was grilled perfectly without being over cooked. By itself I would have given the Cuban 4 stars but when you add the hot sauce...oh man! Perhaps too many choices for the size of the food stall. The food is average at best. The empanada had a good flavor but it was too cheesy and didn't have enough chicken inside. It also wasn't hot and fresh. The bread being used for the Cuban sandwich is a let down. It wasn't pressed long enough or hard enough. A Cuban should be pressed! The garlic aioli was good. The pork inside the Cuban sandwich was pretty good but needed to be cut into thinner slices on the sandwich. The slices I had were about and inch and a half thick. If this restaurant slims down there menu and focuses on providing a few great items rather than several average items then this will be a great spot for lunch. The only thing that turned me off of the restaurant was the lack of gloves being used. The woman making my food used gloves, but the man handing her my food didn't use gloves. Use gloves. read more
