I've been to Bento Box a handful of times and always experience good service. It's a nice, little restaurant good for a quick meal for lunch and dinner. I've tried their Bento Box dinners and their Teriyaki plates. Both have always come out hot and fresh. They do go a little heavy on the sauces for my personal taste. My only gripe is they seem a little pricey for the size of the restaurant and being located in a strip mall. Lunch specials will run you about 7-8 bucks. It's a decent amount of food but I'm looking for the most bang for my buck. read more

Tried this place because I pass by it all the time. Ordered a box A, with salmon as an alternative. Called to explain what happened to my shrimp tempura & sushi, he stated that's not what I ordered. I was actually surprised by this place. It was better than I thought. Obviously from the name, their main things are bento boxes. They do have sushi here as well but very limited selection. The bento's are actually pretty good. They're not the best, but I would probably come back randomly if I'm hungry before some grocery shopping. Actually, probably a place you would go during your lunch break. The place is small but clean. Not a place you would have a group gathering at. The service when we have gone was always good. The sesame chicken is more of a katsu, but it's still pretty good. They give you a good amount of food too. The bento's come with rice, salad, and a fortune cookie (sometimes even pickled cucumber). I've also had the teriyaki that was good too. I haven't had the specialty sushi's from here but when I saw the waiter give one to a neighboring table, it looked pretty big. We did have sake nigiri. It seemed pretty fresh and was actually good (compared to some low end places). I love how they give students 10% off if you show your ID!! It IS pricey but now a days I guess that's the norm. Like another reviewer has said, I'd probably just go down Howe and go to Sushi Hook if I want Sushi and a better quality bentos. I actually usually go to the one off 65th but we came to this location over the weekend. I think the menus are the same or very similar at both restaurants. Pretty good combination deals and a fair selection of Korean and Japanese options. Nice staff and really attentive. I'd say okay prices for most things.The wait wasn't long and the food was fresh. I ordered a combo box of teriyaki tofu and honey chicken. The chicken was nice cuts of thigh meat in a sweet and spicy sauce. The teriyaki tofu was panko breaded and fried + topped with teriyaki sauce. I was surprised they only gave 3 pieces for a combination plate.... But it's okay. It was served with rice, salad, and a beansprout side that I'm pretty sure a Korean banchan. Between me and my 4 siblings each with combo plates and an appetizer was $70. Not too bad. read more

Our favorite Japanese restaurant. I always go for the vegan choices. My favorite is the Tofu teriyaki plate. My husband always gets the Chicken teriyaki plate. Service is fast, food hot and fresh. I like the way they make the tofu...they coat the slices of tofu with Panko crumbs and then lightly deep fry them so you have some texture with each bite and then they serve it with a light teriyaki sauce, white sticky rice, some type of fresh vegetable and a tossed green salad. A very reasonably priced and delicious dinner for two (under $23 w/no drinks). Oh yeah, and the asparagus sushi roll is superb...I highly recommend this restaurant! read more

This place doesn't get enough credit! They're food quality is consistent, and the wait time is always minimal given the insane amount of people that bombard Loehman's Plaza during the hours of 11:30-1:30 PM. Parking is a beast; but if you've been to Loehman's at lunch, you're already aware of that. I really enjoy the food here, and have for years! I pretty much religiously get the vegetable pan fried noodles with extra sauce and ask for them to make it spicy-- which they do graciously! A friend who has come with me several time gets the same thing, but adds chicken and says it's amazing. I haven't tried the sushi, personally. But if you're craving some bomb sushi, you should probably go to a restaurant that specializes in it. Try the noodles and bento boxed this place has to offer! read more

Well, I place a 15 orders and receive a confirmation fax. arrive to the restaurant at opening and ask if they received the fax, and I'm told they no longer have a fax machine!!! I don't know.....For my daily lunches, I will now explore new areas (to me) on the way from Citrus Heights to West Sacramento, and I found the magnificence of Fair Oaks BLVD. Meh I went there, and it seemed very generic. Being from Southern California, this seemed like an overpriced not as good version of Yoshinoya/Beef bowl. The teriyaki chicken bento box (which I ordered based on, I don't know, the name of the location) was plain jane, even to the generic salad with a nondescript tasting salad dressing, typical teriyaki chicken, and a sushi roll that came out way too quickly to have probably been prepared fresh (Rice really mushy) As an aside, the table the cashier pointed me to was dirty with wet spots, white spots (dressing? Sushi sauce?), and other stuff, that I had to ask the waiter to come by and clean it. Not a huge deal, but still...... I may sound overly nitpicky again, and I apologize, but for a "lunch special" that is $14.95 before tax, I expect the special (which, again....is the name of the restaurant) to be good as it is their namesake. Majority of orders are to go (as was mine), but they have a huge screen facing the customer base to try and shame you in to giving a tip. Anyone can see how much your paying as well if your tipping. I also saw someone who was eating in, receive their item in a styrofoam cup, but the restaurant expects a tip. Food was mediocre at best. read more

DO NOT GET A TERIYAKI BOWL HERE A 5 year old could have just made the plate I ate, I seriously think it had to be a joke. I got the Tofu teriyaki bowl and all of its contents were as follows: about 1.5 cup of rice, 2 pieces of broccoli, 2 carrots, 8 pieces of tofu, and I think about 1 tbsp of soy sauce. It was definitely not teriyaki sauce. I was very happy with the amount of tofu they gave me but how are you only going to give me 2 peices of broccoli and 2 pieces of carrot. Oh and the vegetables ICE COLD literally FREEZER TO BOWL. I asked about them and the server was like yeah we serve them cold. Literally, this place is out here doing the least. Rude people, bad customer service. I call to make a to go order at 8:35pm and here is how the actual phone call goes. BB: bento box, we are closed. Me: I'd like to make a to go order BB: we are closed Me: but your hours say you're open til 9. BB: we are closed Me: so you're telling me you are going to turn away business because you decided to change your store hours tonight? It's 30 minutes til your closed and it takes 15 to make a to go order. BB: yeah we already closed our register I've worked in the Resturant business and I know how it works. We stayed open til our hours and we never turned away customers. So I decided to walk in anyway to get food. The young people there looked pissed and were rude. It's like you are still open you're hours are til 9 and you lied to my face. I hate liars. I would have preferred them to say well we stop taking to go orders at a certain time but you can come in. Instead they were just lazy and didn't want to do anything for the last 30 minutes of their job. At least who ever the older woman was ended up being kind enough to make us food. I've been coming to Bento Box for years. Loved this place, excellent food, reasonable prices, however, this review is solely based on the dish I ordered today, a Sushi Roll, called Spicy Chop, Chop. Was suppose to have chopped scallops, cucumbers, and avocado. NO Scallops at all, just the cucumbers and avocado, with bland (nothing spicy about it) with their white sauce and masago. (fish eggs). I called back and said, there is NO scallops anywhere. The worker said, 'Yeah it's chopped, and I said, no it is no where, I am looking at it right now. He just said he was sorry, didn't offer to have me talk to manager or anything. $11.00 down the drain! read more

Apparently guys are allowed to eat by themselves but girls aren't.... Went to Bento Box off of fair oaks and decided to eat in. Was told to grab a table. So I chose a spot by the window. Waited 5 mins playing on my phone.... no one came to me... though they took the order of the table of 2 guys next to me, they were there first. After 5 mins go by with nothing I put my phone down and look at all the workers. Table next to me gets their food. Another guy sits down at the table in front of me.... he gets a menu and drink order.... another guy walks in. Same thing. And I'm still sitting there with nothing. Let's be honest - I ended up here on Halloween because I was on my way home from work and wasn't in costume - and therefore couldn't get a free burrito from Chipotle. I'm SO GLAD I did! I don't know what I was expecting from a chain, but it exceeded my expectations anyway. I hadn't been to this place in several years, but I went in the other day for lunch with one of my friends and was very pleased with my visit. We went in and were told we could sit anywhere we'd like. Once we sat we were instantly greeted and asked for our drink order. Shortly after that we ordered our food and it came out very quickly. It wasn't busy at all so it was really nice that the food didn't take forever as I was very hungry LOL. I ordered a Fair Oaks sushi roll which I was very satisfied with. It tasted very good and was really fulfilling. My friend had ordered a teriyaki chicken bento box which he was very pleased with as well. Overall it was a good experience and very good food. They opened a week ago. I've been there three times since then. Twice for take-out, once for eat-in. The owner greets everyone with enthusiasm. It's a tiny spot worth exploring, between the big grocery store and Jamba Juice in Loehmann's Plaza. He gave me a pile of kim chee to taste. When I detected Ko Chi Chung as one of the ingredients, his face lit up! It is a sweetish taste rather than the acidic taste one usually associates with kim chee. My order? Korean short ribs, tofu teriyaki, and a bowl of kim chee. Yummerookies, is all I can say. I dipped into the ribs on the way home and nearly drove off the road! Next day went to get food for a friend whom I was picking up from the airport at 11pm. A midnight snack. The next day my friend called to say it was wonderful - especially the yellow fin sushi. Last night took my discriminating 23-year-old son for eat-in. He loved the Thai chicken, was surprised at the amount of food, but would have liked a bit more rice. He is going to take his friends there, since prices are much less than the usual sushi place. Our two dinners were just over $20, including the $2.50 for the kim chee. The owner gave us a 15% discount for being a frequent customer. The receipt has 15% discount printed on it for the next visit (may be for first few days). Food arrived hot and quickly, and was mighty tasty. Go, go, quickly! read more

Quality of rolls is way down, have been a customer here for many years, always have enjoyed the quality of the food, but recently the rolls are poorly made fall apart in the box and smaller quantities. Shrimp in tempura are smaller size as well and it seems the quality of the preparation has gone down, even fewer sauces on top. read more

I am writing this with hope that the owners will read this and make the right improvements. The people who own it are really sweet, but not prepared to have a successful restaurant. 1st they are over staffed. They need to get rid of the excess until the place is packed. 2nd the sushi doesn't seem fresh and the rolls are a bit sloppy. 3rd the set up is a bit nonsensical. They need to remove the semi wall so that people can leave with out going back to the register area. 4th ( sorry I was hoping to keep this short ) counter or sit down service?? So confused. I really really like this place a lot. The food is really good and fairly priced. However whenever I call in my order the phone connection is always messed up. I always here this very loud screeching noise with lots of static that I cannot hear anything. It's so incredibly difficult to talk and place the order, it usually takes more than 5 minutes to place a simple order. Not to be confused with the Bento Box in downtown 16th street. For a fast food joint, it's fairly pricey and abysmally bland. For the same price I could've found a nice sit down restaurant with better food. Forget seafood, while they offer calamari and shrimp, it's breaded and freakishly deep fried. The tofu is breaded and deep fried as well. I don't eat meat so that's probably the problem and here at Bento Box I'm feeling unsatisfied with an lighter wallet. read more

Salad, rice, tempura, teriyaki chicken, and 4 pieces of sashimi for $14.99?? Yup, a ton of food, for not that much money sounds like a good choice to me! The food here isn't anything special though, but you do get a ton of it . The teriyaki chicken is pretty good, and you get a mountain of it. The rice wasn't the best rice ever, but their tempura was actually pretty tasty. We also got an order for their gyozas and that there pan seared perfectly and I found that we pretty much inhaled them ha ha I wondered where they went! Their sashimi wasn't the freshest tasting in the world but you know, for a little spot in Loehmann's plaza it is quick and easy, and they seem to take a lot of call in togo orders in case you were looking for an easy cheap affordable spot to pick up dinner or lunch. Their lunch combos/specials are even cheaper than their dinner options, so just a thought for those of you trying to save money! read more
