The food here isn't anything special though, but you do get a ton of it . The teriyaki chicken is pretty good, and you get a mountain of it. The rice wasn't the best rice ever, but their tempura was actually pretty tasty. We also got an order for their gyozas and that there pan seared perfectly and I found that we pretty much inhaled them ha ha I wondered where they went! Their sashimi wasn't the freshest tasting in the world but you know, for a little spot in Loehmann's plaza it is quick and easy, and they seem to take a lot of call in togo orders in case you were looking for an easy cheap affordable spot to pick up dinner or lunch. I ordered some food for me and a friend to go. I was surprising him with lunch during his break at work and needed to get in and out. Instead of ordering sushi, which usually takes longer I ordered some teri-chix and some katsu. I got two diet cokes and some gyoza too. The diet cokes were flat and the food was meh. it wasn't terrible, but for 20 bucks it wasn't great either. Also it took like almost 30 minutes to get my food so I was almost late to lunch. They just built this place, and its very nice. They do sit down, and take out. I stopped in for lunch today, and ordered the veggie noodle plate. They use udon noodles, and then it was just the normal mix of stir-fry veggies. I saw them making the sushi rice, and peeling veggies in the back, so I'm assuming everything is very fresh. If you're looking for the epitome of Americanized sushi this is the place. Bland and inconsistent. The food is sub par and the nigiri is almost next to frozen in the center. Don't get me started on the sushi either. The rice was unusually hard in certain areas. Nigiri 2/5. Sushi 2/5. I feel as if their sushi chefs need some retraining. I'd expect them to at least have some consistency with their food. I worked for a sushi place and I believe I know what I'm talking about when it comes to good sushi. Quality of rolls is way down, have been a customer here for many years, always have enjoyed the quality of the food, but recently the rolls are poorly made fall apart in the box and smaller quantities. Shrimp in tempura are smaller size as well and it seems the quality of the preparation has gone down, even fewer sauces on top. read more

I live down the street from this place so I've come here pretty often and tried different things all of which are pretty good, amazing no, but good enough to keep coming back. I must say that the main reason I come is for the variety of non-shellish sushi rolls they offer. I know, I know how can I eat sushi without shrimp, crab and all the yummy goodness right? I really really like this place a lot. The food is really good and fairly priced. However whenever I call in my order the phone connection is always messed up. I always here this very loud screeching noise with lots of static that I cannot hear anything. It's so incredibly difficult to talk and place the order, it usually takes more than 5 minutes to place a simple order. This place was delicious! Came here for the first time last night without reading any reviews or the menu. We walked in and were asked if our order was for here or takeout, and we wanted to sit down. We picked our own table and were quickly greeted with menus and asked what we wanted to drink. Sadly they have no alcohol here, so hot tea it was. They have a lot of good looking options on their menu so it took some time to decide. I went with the spicy popcorn chicken combo, and she went with the "Adventure" roll. The roll isn't as scary as it may sound, but it is huge. Our food came out in an acceptable time, maybe 10-15 minutes. My chicken dish came out with a huge pile of fried deliciousness, a pile of rice, some pickled (?) veggies on the side, a salad with some good dressing, and of course a fortune cookie. Her roll came out by itself on a plate with three sauces drizzled in a cool design. The food was great! I loved the chicken, the only letdown was the sauce wasn't very spicy at all. Seemed like a sweet chili sauce, but luckily they had the all-important cock sauce nearby. It was so much food it took me quite a while to finish it all, but you know I couldn't leave a single bite behind. Her roll, on the other hand, gave her four pieces of sushi to take home for a snack later. The service was great, we were waited on by two waitresses who were very friendly. The lady taking our order was very helpful and knowledgeable about the menu, and wanted to refill my hot tea pot every chance she got (hot tea refills were free too). Probably the best part was... the bill! I don't want to call it cheap, but it was about half the price of what I am used to paying at other places around town. With a name of Bento Box, I'd ONLY order the bento boxes here. Its a lot of food and can feed 1 person if you're that hungry or even 2. As for their sushi, I had the Sunrise roll and I was disgusted. I think theres way too much sauces and the rice was soggy. So with that, the sauce just was overpowering I couldn't even finish it. Back to the bento, their chicken teriyaki/spicy chicken bento is yummy. Perfectly moist tender chicken and lots of rice and a side salad with crispy tempura. I'm one of those weird people that like my food compartmentalized. I'm not a freak about it, I just prefer it. Bento boxes really appeal to me for that reason. So when I discovered there was a restaurant nearby called Bento Box, I had to check it out. I've been back a few times, the latest being today. The food is pretty good. It's better than fast food, but not "Holy [doot]! That's the best thing I ever ate!" They have bento boxes (obviously) with your choice of protein, salad, rice, pickled cucumber and a fortune cookie. There is also maki, nigiri, and udon. There's probably more, but that's all I can remember. I have only tried the bento boxes. I like them (woot! for not heaping it all on the rice). My only real criticisms would be that everything seems very sweet as if sugar is the common ingredient. Also the sesame shrimp is more like shrimp katsu and shreds the roof of the mouth (think Cap'n Crunch). It is kind of a small place, but it's nice. There are big windows and murals on the wall. The servers are very friendly and prompt. The prices seem a little steep for what it is, but not that bad and they do have specials. read more

Soooo .. i ran into this place on my way to Jack's ... haha. i originally wanted Japanese anyway, so i figured i'd try it out .. i thought the name was cute .. "Bento Box" hehe .. i haven't had an official BENTO BOX there, but i've tried the sushi and lunch specials. For those of you who thought the sushi was bad .. i'm not sure what type of sushi you like, but i personally like sushi with special sauces and this place has A LOT of different ones. For Sarah W. -- the menu DID say that it would have sauce, but you have to read. It says "with Special Sauce" on top of the specialty roll sushi menu. Not sure how you could miss that, but OK. I agree though, some sushi rolls are dripping or saturated with sauce, which may be too much for some people cuz then all you taste is the sauce. But i guess i'm a sauce person, so i'll have to disagree. i've tried the rolls without sauce and they're still pretty good. They're tightly packed and don't fall apart. The tempura shrimp in any of the rolls usually stay fairly crispy, or at least they don't go soggy .. teriyaki chicken is hard not to mess up, so they did well with that. And the sauce they use on the spicy chicken ain't too bad either. I haven't gotten the chance to try much else on the teriyaki plate menu or bento box menu .. The salad, i'd have to say isn't all that great. After awhile, the dressing gets watery and that makes the salad wilt. I had a watery, unflavorful salad once there, so i just steer clear of them and stick to the sushi. Eventually i'll try other ones, but so far my favorites are the King Kong and the Heart Attack. I like that their specialty rolls don't stick to the usuals and they've ventured out to have their own combinations. The Heart Attack actually has all kindsa stuff on/in it, but its all packed in there and not too big for one piece in your mouth. I had to bite through the King Kong cuz it's as wide as a spider roll, plus the sauce, but it was still hella good ... if i want different sushi, i'd go here. If u are looking for traditional, this isn't the place for you. The pricing to me seems normal for a Jap restaurant, for some things it's cheaper. I'd still keep coming back .... =] read more

They really need to have their servers warn customers that it's extra. I was pleasantly surprised with the food at Bento Box. I stopped by during my lunch break on a whim. Normally I order pick-up from Sushi Hook, but I didn't have time to pre-order and it was a last minute decision (I was about to get Noah's and Jamba Juice, when I thought I'd give Bento Box a try). The service was terrific. I ordered take-out and everyone was extremely nice. They even helped me decide on what to order since I was a little brain-dead-stressed-frazzled from work. I ended up ordering a vegeterian bento box. The Tofu Teriyaki was tasty, the asparagus roll delish, the rice sticky and perfect, and the vegetable tempura plentiful. The salad was typical and a little whatever meh. Definitely not comparable to Sushi Hook's salad. They don't skimp out, you get quite a lot of food for your buck. Will I go back? Definitely. Will it substitute my Sushi Hook obsession? Definitely not. But it's tasty, it's fast, and the people are really nice and accomodating of substitute orders. Perfect for a quick lunch stop. My boyfriend and I went there for the first time (he had a discount card and this restaurant was on the back so we decided to try it) The food is just 'ok' and didn't have a lot of of flavor... We then presented the waitress (who was very nice) with the card she said "ok I'll take it off"; well we noticed she didn't take it off and we asked her about it, she apologized and asked the female manager to remove it. She comes back 10 minutes later and says "I'm sorry the machine won't let me take off the discount".. There was no offer to do anything else for us so not a good first impression to say the least! I've been to Bento Box in the past but this was my first time to this location because it's close to my house. I went during lunch time and it was a little crowded. I ordered the Salmon Teriyaki and it was so good. I love the rice and sushi. The place is pretty small but they maximize the space so the tables aren't close to each other and you still have a sense of privacy and other people are in your face watching you eat. I really liked the service. They girl who took my order was really nice. My order took a little longer because it was salmon but I was still pleased with the time it took. I didn't wait very long to eat and trust me...I was so hungry and ready to eat! The prices of the items (sushi) are a little expensive but hey it's sushi so you pay for what you want. I'm not sure if they do any 'happy hour' specials of their sushi like Arigatos does but I would call or check online. FOOD: The food was delicious! The sushi, teriyaki, salad, rice, and even the water were GREAT! SERVICE: You'll get service with a smile here. They girls who work here are cute and very respectful. Bento Box feels like the Panda Express of Japanese food, it is a chain after all. Your choices are limited to 1-3 entree bentos, or you can get a special bento if you want some sushi mixed in. Sure you can get the non-bento items, but trust me, you'll want to stick to the bento. It is in its name after all. Out of the assortment of ambigious asian entrees with "sesame" or "teriyaki" in their name, I got the teriyaki beef, sesame chicken, and spicy chicken. The bento entrees were accompanied with rice, miso soup, and a salad. Overall the dishes were exactly what I expected and in great quantity too. The sesame chicken came as chicken katsu with sesame, the spicy chicken was similar to general's chicken with a variation on the sauce, but the teriyaki beef had an off putting flavor. The beef had a distinct gas/propane taste. I am guessing it absorbed a lot of the flavor from the gas grill. My friend did not seem to mind the flavor as much. I can't say this is the most authentic place for Japanese food, but I would come here for the same reason why I would order combination plate with egg rolls at a Chinese restaurant. Sometimes you want something fast, filling, and maybe have traces of MSG. read more

My friend suggested this place since it's not too far from work. First thing I noticed when I came in is that the place looks like its needs to be updated and space is really small. We came in around 5pm on a Saturday and it wasn't that busy. We ordered Fair Oaks roll and King Kong roll. Their sushi rolls are worth it because of the generous portions also good quality. I enjoyed the King Kong roll a lot. It was very flavorful. Fair oaks roll was good too. Customer service was just ok. Beef teriyaki? You mean bulgogi? That's right, it's bulgogi. And BBQ beef ribs, aka Galbi. This place is cheaper than Oz by a long shot. They have sushi and other meats available for purchase, but the menu is simple and straight forward. I really enjoy their cucumber ... kimchi? (I'm honestly not sure what it is, kimchi is usually spicy and this is not). The meat, by a long shot, is better than the other Korean restaurant I just mentioned. We come here much more often for two meals: $20 for two people's worth of bulgogi, galbi is a bit extra. Unfortunately the restaurant is a bit small, but doesn't bother me. It played American mainstream music and served fortune cookies with the bento box. Last time I checked, fortune cookies were Chinese, not Japanese. So me and my bf ordered bento # 1 and the King Kong. I've had better sushi but this one was okay, same goes with the bento box which had teriyaki chicken, tempura, and the choice of basic sushi. To sum it all up, service was good. They kept checking up on us before we ordered. to see if we were ready. Food came fast and they even allowed us to half the king kong roll with one side having cottage cheese and the other side with no cottage cheese. I don't know if I would eat here again though. I wish I could have been a little more patient and took the time to read up on this place and compare it to the other restaurants in the area. Folks I was with were being indecisive so we ended up here. Small "fast food" like lobby area. Took awhile to go over the small selection menu, nothing stood out so I went with the sashimi salad. Went here with my lady, and the waiter never brought us the drinks we ordered. We ordered 2 rolls one fried cali with no spicy mayo, and a firework. My toll came out first and it was the completely wrong roll, none of even the same ingredients, plus it had something I was allergic to. Glad I noticed and didn't just eat it. Then they let my lady know they had already put the spicy mayo on her roll, but we had them remake it. We were never really waited on. Usually I'm a big tipper even decent if the service was slightly sub par, but I might as well have just ordered to go. No tip from me. We shall definitely be sticking to the one downtown. I seriously love the food at this location.The dynamite roll and the volcano rolls are my go to when I'm hungry. I like mostly only cooked rolls. They both have deep fried shrimp I think and I love their rolls with cucumber. This place is underrated. They have a thick noodles dish that is out of this world yummy and it comes with rice. I grabbed a bento box, hence the name. The size was very decent for the price. I ordered a bento box for 11.99 and got half a sushi roll, tempera, rice, salad, and chicken teriyaki. Their chicken was flavorful and not too dry. I loved their salad dressing. Theres only a few places in Sacramento that has this dressing. This place is more like a togo/dine in place. They basically seat you, take your oder, give you your food and thats it. Don't expect anything fancy. read more

I never another 10+ minutes in the car while my cars are hungry, I go in to check in my food and it is just sitting there.
