Stuff members are on their phone texting and not paying attention to you when you want to order food. If you don't like your job that much - don't do it then. The prices like in Arigato Sushi. But Arigato Sushi is more cleaner, better quality food and nicer interior. No, I don't suggest Bento Box at all. It's not worth it! Run from this place! read more

Sooooo disappointed!!! Since the owner retired and her kids took over they completely changed menu. I loved the spicy prawns because they were tempura fried and had a great sauce. Now they just fry the pre cooked shrimp and up charge an extra $3. Crazy!!! I loved coming here but it has changed. I will have to find another spot. read more

Let me first say that I rarely give bad reviews and give folks the benefit of the doubt but when I feel like the victim of bait and switch, I have to say something. They really should have a zero star option here (or lower). I should have gone with my gut this afternoon when the sign on the door said they take their lunch break during what would be late lunch/early dinner. That, and the lights off inside the restaurant and previously friendly people in charge were nowhere to be found. This used to be one of my go-to places for take out or dine-in (before Covid) and always order the same thing. Bento Box #1 with a Dynamite Roll. A few years ago the tempura was amazing, freshly made to order and crisp without being greasy. It has been going downhill as of late, though, and the "tempura" seems to be a pre-made, warmed-over, previously frozen, dry, bland, stale vegetables and frozen pre-breaded (with something definitely not tempura) shrimp. Today's box had half of the usual pieces for what seemed like a much higher price. Lord only knows how long those "things" were in a freezer before they decided to substitute them for the good stuff. About all that's the same is the to-go container that goes into the recycle bin. I ate the teriyaki chicken and put the rest of this garbage into the new organic recycling container that might turn into something useful for mulch, but even then I worry about the plants that have to eat what I couldn't. Again, I usually don't complain, I just keep quiet and won't return when disappointment eclipses expectation. But when you go out of your way to get rid of customers I couldn't keep silent. Restaurants come and go out of business because of lousy customer service or food, so if I was a doctor I would have called the time of death on this one, probably when new management stepped in. It's painfully evident someone thought they could skimp on everything and make a profit but if I were in charge I would put up a permanently closed sign and try another profession where good food or customer service aren't necessary since this Bento Box is already there. I stopped in to Bento Box at 2pm. There is a lighted OPEN sign and hours state they are open until 9pm. I go in to order and they tell me "We are on our lunch break, we can't serve you" WHAT! How do you stay in business??? Unbelievable. read more

Never again at Bento Box at Loehman's Plaza. I asked for extra sauce for the teriyaki chicken in the combination plate. First it was annoying being charged for sauce when historically, they never give enough sauce to begin with & this time the chicken was dry. Being charged for the sauce, I complained to the manager, BRUCE who said this is how the chicken is made and went on and on and on about how it is not the staff's fault. I finally had to stop him and reminded him that it is only about the sauce. BRUCE was defensive, obviously upset, and finally I had to repeat myself...it's only about the sauce (I was thinking calm down). I only want more sauce for the dry chicken and why are you charging me? This nickel and diming for sauce is irritating, then when I told the manager to stop talking bc it is only about the sauce, and I really want to be left alone to eat, BRUCE threatened to 86 me. What? I will 86 myself! This manager is nuts. Second, I could not get pass the sauce & dry chicken issue to talk about the dry burnt pieces of beef that looked and tasted like left over waste. For all you folks who's irritated about costly sauce and rude treatment, I recommend Makisu Sushi on Fair Oaks, who will give you plenty of sauce. read more

I was extremely disappointed in the chicken ramen. I've never tasted anything like it. The best description I could give is it was like the cook put together chow mein noodles, teriyaki chicken, and a splash of broth in a styrofoam container. While other things on their menu may have better results, this meal was so horrible, I will never try anything else. I love coming here! The employees are very friendly and helpful when I have questions. I've been coming to this location for a few years now. Usually we get take out and call ahead. We live ~5 minutes away and call either while we're leaving in the car(bowl order) or as we're putting our shoes on to leave(sushi order). They're fast! We never wait long after we arrive and pay. The sushi is always good. I am not one for large and overstuffed rolls but the ones here are pretty good! The larger rolls are under the 2nd column of their special rolls. For bowls, we always get the spicy honey chicken bowl or the popcorn chicken bowl! Very delicious. The sauce is great! Both bowls use the same sauce. The sauce is the same one that comes with the gyoza too! Occasionally, the pork bowl or the sesame chicken. The pork is marinated in gochujang sauce, a Korean sweet/spicy sauce. I've tried the Bento Box downtown as well, so I feel I have some frame of reference on their overall quality. If you're looking for an affordable, fast-casual lunch, this is an option, but don't count on their food being quality or a consistency of service. I dropped in recently for lunch and got a lunch special with a couple extras. The teriyaki chicken seems to be the biggest hit here and I found it the tastiest thing on my plate (or box). The sushi rolls I and a friend got were absolutely drenched in sauce as if they were embarrassed to have you actually taste the flavor of the fish. The side salad was also subpar - a simple mixture that usually gets passed over by most patrons. On the plus side, I've had friendly service here and it is a convenient place to meet for a no fuss lunch in the area. I'll put the stress on "in the area" - not a restaurant I'd go out of the way for. read more

This is a hidden gem in the Loehmann's Plaza Shopping Center. I have lunch in many restaurants in this shopping center and never discovered this little restaurant right next to the Save Mart Supermarket. Last week after lunch in another restaurant in the same shopping center. I saw Bento Box and decided I will try them out next time. I tried Bento Box few days ago and wow! They're much better than I expected. I have the lunch specials with Chicken Teriyaki and Spicy Popcorn Chicken for $9,99 only. The first wowed was the amount of food. They're very generous, a lot of Chicken Teriyaki and Popcorn Chicken loaded with a cup of rice and salads. Both of the Teriyaki Chicken and Popcorn Chicken also very delicious. The Popcorn Chicken was crispy all the time! Yummy! I will definitely be coming back to tryouts more items in Bento Box again! read more

I stopped by to get the lunch special on Monday and was pleasantly surprised. The special for Monday was teriyaki chicken and pot stickers. The whole meal came with 4 pot stickers, a healthy amount of teriyaki chicken, a fat scoop of rice, side salad, and fortune cookie. The whole meal came out to just about $15 with tax which was very reasonable for how much food it came with. I was also very satisfied with the service which only took about ten minutes for them to prepare my food and they even brought it to my table for me. Very nice establishment in a great plaza with other amazing businesses and very close to Sac State. Would recommend 10/10! read more

Food has always been good but the service has gotten worse over the past 7 years I've been in the area. They've gotten so lazy w/ their service & customer service. They close at 9 pm, according to their website. I call at 8:01 pm to place a food order. No sushi rolls, just a couple bowls & an order of their ridiculously priced dollar store ramen & they said they couldn't do it bc their fryer is now off for the night... at 8 pm!! When their business closes at 9 pm! They need a minimum of an hour BEFORE closing to close their store? It makes no sense. It's lazy & unfortunate bc we go here on a weekly to biweekly basis for over 7 years & now we'll find a new Japanese restaurant to enjoy. Bento has become a HUGE let down w/ 1) fast increases in prices with no improvements to quality of food, 2) dissatisfying customer service, and 3) stopping or closing their business WELL BEFORE their said close time. They keep the change whether you like it or not. It seems they've made a practice not to hand out change regardless of the amount. First time it was over $4, second time over $2. Not a lot of money, but customers should be the one to decide. Food is so-so. Tempura used old oil, greasy. read more

WARNING I THREW UP Never posted here before but I've also never thrown up from food lol. Me and my boyfriend ate here and ordered 4 different roles. The Tahoe roll was the most suspicious roll I've ever had. I had one bite and immediately knew something was off, same as my boyfriend. It had a chemically smell coming from the inside of the roll. This review is for the midtown location only. The place has all the benefits and drawbacks of a big chain. On one hand there is a good variety on the menu and there is plenty of seating anytime you go. The prices are ok for the fare, but the food just lacks flavor. The buffet is uninspired (a alot of generic Chinese items), but the bar is pretty good for a restaurant. There is always a faint odor of Simple Green cleaning fluid which is NOT appetizing though i appreciate the lack of fishy odor. Parking is par for the course in midtown...hard to find and expensive. All in all I would suggest skip this place and either travel out of the grid to the fair oaks location or hit Jensai, Kyoto, or another less corporate place. read more

Today I ordered the Bento Special #1 chicken teriyaki, mixed tempura, 4 pcs of rolls from any roll under "basic roll" on the menu, white steamed rice, and salad... All for the total of $11.99! I first learned of this place from a friend of mine who swore by the BBQ short ribs here. She was correct, the short ribs were just as flavorful and tender as she described.
