I bought a used car from Berge Volkswagen 2 weeks ago and I absolutely hate the car. I contacted the dealership and told them. They claimed that they would try and help me exchange the car. They said that the bank told them I couldn't trade in the car because I hadn't made any payments on the vehicle. I called the bank and they told me something completely different. So I believe that Berge Volkswagon lied to me like so many dealerships do. They thought because I was a woman I would believe anything they told me. They are wrong! I am NOT a fucking naive woman. Watch out for their deceptive sales practices! They will negotiate a price on the car and then increase it with various 'dealer add-ons' without explaining, verbally disclosing or outlining them in the final contract. I was a firsthand observer of their taking advantage of my daughter as a first time car buyer as I participated in the transaction at the dealership that day and when we returned together to approach Berge Volkswagen on the deception. I write this note to expose the deceitful practices of Berge Volkswagen in Mesa AZ.  My daughter, a first time car buyer, visited this dealership and spent almost 3 hours before they were unable to come to an agreement.  She walked and of course they stopped her in the parking lot.  Being only $500 apart, she and the dealership finally agreed to a price outside, a middle ground, which was fair, or so she thought.  They went back into the dealership and she initialed a white piece of paper, which was described to her as a down payment sheet - no final car costs of the car listed.  She initialed next to the down payment figure (her cash down payment as told) and off to finance.  Although they agreed to a price for the car, they failed to inform her that they were going to add a dealer prep cost AND a warranty above and beyond the agreed upon price.  The dealership prep fee was NEVER provided to her at any time, not even when the finance officer went over the sales contract figures.  It was not itemized, it was unscrupulously added to the cost of the car.  Although the warranty was itemized, even after she expressed several times she was not going to pay for a dealership warranty.  The finance officer said "it came with the purchase of the car." eluding to that it was included in the negotiated price.  She was so excited about her ability to negotiate and her new car, she lost sight of the extra costs which were not noticed until she got home.   After several texts and no return calls to the dealership management, we went down in person to address the matter.  The sales manager, Drew, came out with the papers from the sales day with the agreed upon price handwritten and the dealer prep fees written below as well on a deal worksheet.  This sheet didnt even have the prep fees listed (until Drew wrote them on the day of our visit) which he confirmed when I asked him.  So, not one sheet with the agreed upon price except for the down payment and the monthly payment.  Now to outline some deceitful parts.  (1) the dealer prep and warranty fees are in fine print (not obvious) to a buyer AND this was never a part of the agreed upon price.(2) the prep fee was not itemized on the final sales contract and was not disclosed to her by the salesperson and/or finance.(3) a warranty was added, even though she was adamant she didn't want a warranty, believing the added warranty came with the car.  (4) the lack of transparency exhibited only to make a sale is beyond belief especially from a brand name dealership.(5) knowing she was a "first time" car buyer, one would hope they would take care of her like they would their own wife or daughter - apparently not. We went to the dealer on 07/26 to address the two issues.  The dealership did remove the warranty but said it is included on the sales sheet - again it is but in fine print and without explanation.  When we expressed the concern over the dealership slipping in the warranty without explanation, Drew just shrugged his shoulders.   When we addressed the dealer prep fees, he said she signed the paper (remember, the paper with no figures on it except a down and monthly car payment amount).  Being a first time car buyer, how was she supposed to know?  She said nobody ever told her about that fee and it is not itemized anywhere on the final sales contract.  He said "we don't have to" "they are written on the paper" (in small print) and "that is the sales price" even though she agreed to a price ~2K lower than what was on the contract.  In the end, he did not feel they did anything wrong and that their practices are legal and he stands by them.  They did not rectify the final price back to the negotiated price per our request.  I suppose if Berge VW stands by practices that may or may not be legal, the fact they are operating in such an unethical behavior instills in me that they will do anything to undermine the trust and loyalty of a customer.  Until this situation, we were considering purchasing a VW Atlas from them.  Now, we will obviously take our business elsewhere.  For others considering this dealership ... We called this morning to confirm our appointment for Saturday for warranty work on our VW. Joshua was the service tech that I spoke with and he couldn't have been less interested in helping. I offered to give him my warranty information ahead of time, my vehicle information, etc. and he said that he couldn't do anything with it until Saturday and that I had to hope he would have time to make the phone calls to get the work approved saturday and then still get the work done. When I asked if it wouldn't help to have that information early, he said 'I can't do that due to insurancey reasons.' Clearly he didn't want to be helpful and I imagine there are other dealerships out there that would be willing to. read more

And this will be my last time here. I showed up to pick up my car at 5:30 after it had been there since 2pm. Only to be told I needed to come back because they did it have time to get to it. This dealership better customer service they will do all they can to get you in a car but after that "crickets". I bought a used vehicle from them it was for sale but it was very dirty need to be cleaned and the tires were bald so I had them replace them and clean the car. I bough the car on a Thursday it took them till that Monday to clean the car and put new tires on it. When I got the car back the check engine light came on. I called and asked if there was anything they could do. Their response was "we will check with our service team and see" four or five call backs later still no solution. Then I noticed there was no key to the car yes it has a fob but no metal key so I called back and got the same response a week later I called back again same response. That day the radiator blew out so now I am at a panic this car has to be fixed so I took it to the brand dealer Land Rover and the total cost to me was $2300 turns out the check engine light was the oxygen sensor and the radiator hose was replaced and the key was ordered. I just paid them $4,000 down for this car and I had to pay another $2300.00 . Shame on them and I still don't have my license plates. For a USED car do not buy from them at least when you buy a New one you a a manufacturer warranty. read more

They couldn't even get a simple oil change done correctly. Within 4 days of my oil change my oil light came on and when I checked the car oil it was EMPTY. I had to have a family member pick me up to go and buy oil so that I could drive my car back into service. They "checked" my car and determined that they just failed to put in the correct amount of oil. They did not compensate me whatsoever for the inconvenience or the additional oil that I had to buy after I had just paid them for an oil change. read more

On Monday I emailed with Amanda Kautman to scheduled a test drive of the ID.4 for Friday. They had a 2021 on the lot and though I planned to order a 2022, I wanted to make sure I liked it before ordering. When I pulled up to Berg, I noticed there wasn't much inventory on the lot--maybe 10 cars, but there are chip shortages right now. The dealership is light and bright, though they use what I can only describe as an overpowering amount of air freshener in the showroom. An (unmasked) receptionist asked if she could help me. I told her I had a test drive scheduled for the ID.4. To which she immediately said, "we don't have any right now." She then added, "The ID.4 was in the body shop. It had been in a fender bender." Stuff happens, but I would have appreciated an email to cancel before making the trip. I checked their inventory when I got home. They're still showing one ID.4 on the lot--perhaps the one that was in the fender bender. I'm not entirely sure the appointment wasn't made by someone online at VW but all the more reason to keep the inventory up to date to prevent wasting customer's time. I would definitely recommend calling before you go to confirm inventory. read more

Was not provided a loner vehicle until 2+ weeks in. We have spent over $5K in a year on the same issue. How can that be? We got hosed by VW. Over promised and under deliver is the motto. To top it off, the car was dirty when we picked it up. We brought it to the dealer because we thought it would be done right. Find a good local mechanic and skip the dealer. read more

Wanna give a huge shout out to Josh in service. Brought my car in for a simple recall last Friday and the car has been having issues ever since. It's leaked gas twice and Berge has been nothing but helpful when it comes to sending a tow truck to pick up the car and they've been super communicative the entire time. Fast forward to today and the car will be down for two weeks. They're putting me in a rental for the time being and are making sure my car is taken care of. Have taken my car here a few times for service and was very happy with not only the excellent customer service but also the amenities provided while you wait (shuttle to your home after dropping the car off here, or if decide to wait there, they have a waiting area with desks if you need to do some work/study on your laptop while you wait; added bonus was the complimentary coffee and tea machine and occasional free cookies or popcorn). I also received text updates including a video from the mechanics (Thanks, Ellie!) of the exterior and undercarriage of my car with info on how it looked so far. Everyone is so friendly and willing to help. My vehicle was in need of some major fixing that was going to take extensive time. Absolutely hated my experience here. I normally take my car to the Chapman Volkswagen location, but they didn't have any available appointments-thus leading to my terrible experience here. I had to get some work done in my car for a few days and I was helped by the service representative, Bob. He was very arrogant, didn't have his mask on many times, and spoke in a rude tone. For the next couple of days, I dreaded having to call the service office to check in on my car. He spoke as if I was inconveniencing him anytime I wanted to know about my car. I would recommend this dealership and my sales representative Jeff Wussler. Obviously we know that the car market is insane at the moment, but Jeff got it done! On short notice, I called about a new Jetta. The original vehicle was interested in had been sold but there was another one fresh off the truck. Before we even got there, he started working the numbers or our sale and trade. Once my husband and I arrived, we were able to test drive the vehicle solo and didn't have to worry about having a naggy salesman in the backseat telling us how to push buttons or how to use the windshield wipers/gear shifter. Our test drive was extended which we greatly appreciated as no one can tell if a vehicle is a good fit with just a quick spin around the block. When we got back from the test drive, we were in and out in about 1.5 hours with our new Jetta. Joe is finance was great as well. Well done Berge VW team! read more
