Had brunch here with a few friends. The set up is self serve concept except your food is brought to you. I had the steak breakfast and wasn't too fond of the steak. So many options - I couldn't decide between a few choices but after talking over my selections with the gentleman taking my order, I settled on the Berries & Cream French toast with a side of bacon. I was in the area for lunch and decided that I was craving crepes. They only offer Berry Crepes. The crepes were nice but were crammed full of whipped cream and then a few berries on top. Too sweet for me. It would have been great if they offered several sweet and savory crepes. The hashbrowns were excellent. We came here based on the high reviews. We walked in and had to order at the counter and then take a seat. There was a long line and only one menu to view while waiting. I ordered the two egg breakfast with sausage, hash browns and fruit for $15 dollars. The food was delivered to our table within 15 minutes. I ordered my eggs over hard and they were unseasoned and bland. The hash browns were okay, a nice crisp on top and made tasty with copious addition of pepper, ketchup and hot sauce. The sausage was the most flavorful and probably the highlight of the plate. The fruit looked great, the melon was not ripe and was rock hard. The strawberry tastes a little rancid. The best part of the fruit bowl was the pineapple which was sweet. I would say the food was okay, but I wouldn't recommend it unless no other options are available. read more

It's a solid 3 stars...Not sure you can argue any more or any less on this one. The people are nice, the food is ok and the prices are alright. If you live in the neighborhood it's a convenient place to get breakfast, I think they do lunch too but no dinner service. You get a locals feeling when you're there and it has somewhat of a diner feel with the counter ordering and pay approach, but no bar to sit at. I'm a huge fan of french toast and the various forms it comes in. There's something about the breakfast food that seriously makes it a standout from lunch and dinner. Usually when I dine out, I prep by searching up places based on my mood and the type of cuisine and flavors I'm going after but for once, Berry Sweet was done on a whim. My friend and I were fairly close by the airport and we were in dire need of a breakfast place that was within a few miles of MSP airport. Siri decided to direct me to Berry Sweet Kitchen. I was a bit nervous with trying out a place where I wasn't able to do my research or read past reviews, but it wasn't really needed here. We were in luck. Berry has a nice spacious private parking lot which is always an added bonus. Unlike most places where your server seats you, hands you a menu and takes your order; you order up front and receive a number plate to be placed on the table of your choice. The Caramelized Banana French Toast stood out to me on their menu and the cashier ensured me that it's a classic staple and you can't go wrong with trying it. I went through my order and proceeded to wait. When our dishes were presented to us, we were shocked with how big our order was. No way, did we pay that little for meals this big. The chocolate pancake was the size of a huge plate, and its thickness was similar to a stack of 2-3 pancakes. And the french toast was bountiful with fruit, pecans, and sliced toast. I could smell the sweet aroma from the berries and caramelized bananas which looked crazy fresh on my plate. Although the meal wasn't fancy or elegant, it was nicely arranged in a fashionable manner. The toast had a nice texture and softness to it and was decorated with fresh berries (strawberries, blueberries and blackberries). It also came with a few slices of caramelized bananas and pecans topped nicely over the toast. I wasn't the biggest fan of the pecans but the bananas were both sweet in taste and scent, and paired extremely well with the side of delicious gooey maple syrup. We were unable to finish our meal and I had to ask for a take-home box. I was highly impressed with the quality and value we got out of our meal: we paid about 20$ to be stuffed with the ultimate breakfast foods. Stumbled upon this place while searching for a place to have brunch on a Sunday morning as we were recovering from our late night post-Spring Break return. The food was AMAZING. Clearly scratch-made, with tons of attention to detail. My younger daughter had the best French Toast I've ever had (Banana French Toast), my husband had their special Barbacoa Bowl, my older daughter had the Berry Waffle, and I had the mexican omelette. Sunday morning rolls around, we're up early. My initial thought was to hit up the Mill, but, they didn't open for another hour, so the woman points this one out to me on my bookmarks and says "This." I'm not that dumb to argue with her, so off we go! Place is tucked away and in the midst of a residential/mixed commercial area, but does sport it's own private lot, so bonus points there for street and lot parking. Ordering style, menu is above the counter, grab a menu as well, order up at the counter, get a number, pop a squat and wait. Beverages are self serve. Coffee selection, Caribou. Which, while it's not the "hippest" out there, still made me really happy. Now because I was scared off of having chocolate chip cakes after my trip to Louisiana Cafe a month or so ago, I decided no to that. However, my girlfriend was craving banana and chocolate chips, so she went with it. Know what that means, this guy is still getting pancakes! I roll with the banana french toast, and we get a side of scrambled eggs with cheese and bacon - just for good measure. While we wait, I have a great chat with one of the workers on how everything is made here. Bacon is even cured on site, breads are made daily and everything is scratch made. Love getting a chance to get this info from the staff. Brief wait concludes with the food arriving, and it's looking great. I'll start with the French toast, because I can. Easily some of the best french toast I've ever had. Cooked to absolute perfection with the edges being crisp and the middle having a bit of chew - but not being soggy. Spot on job here. The caramelized bananas to go with it, and berries provided incredible flavors from the sweet banana to the tarty berries. And, to make it even better, the walnuts gave you a bit of extra crunch chew and some saltiness. Just a fantastic dish that made me actually not regret cheating on pancakes. No syrup was used, the caramel and caramelized bananas were more than enough sweetness. Bacon. Mmmm, bacon. This was some damn good pig. Cut just thick enough to satisfy, done not to a burnt crisp but a crisp chew, and plenty of incredible salty smoke flavor to it. Good thing only two strips came. I'd hate to have to death match my girlfriend for the 3rd piece (I'm a romantic and gentleman up until it comes to bacon, then love hits the back seat). Toast was very good, and the house made berry spread was fantastic. Good thickness to the toast, toasted perfectly to still have a great bit of fluff on the inside without being over done to scratch the roof of your mouth to hell. Eggs, good. But missing cheese (reason why 4 stars instead of 5). Could have given the eggs back to get it melted on, but, too hungry and not the biggest of deals. The pancake. Ashley, as we know, is a peanut butter junky so she decided to spread peanut butter all over the chocolate-banana cake. So, lets recap this flavor blast... chocolate, bananas, peanut butter, vanilla based buttermilk batter for the cakes, and oh yeah - maple syrup. Her saying it was one of the best she ever had was reason enough for me to steal some bites before she gave me half when she was full (these things are pretty damn big). The salty peanut butter on there really helped tame the overly sugary flavor I was concerned with, and experienced at Louisiana Cafe. Due to the dressing up of the cake before I got a chance to sample, I won't include it in my "best of" list. Shame, but, wasn't technically my dish to begin with. All in all, a great place. Local, scratch made, great flavor, and minus one blip, easily one of the better places to get some breakfast. read more

There are subtle hints around this place that it packs a much bigger punch than one would expect in its humble surroundings- home made smoked thick sliced bacon, perfectly fried plantains, caramelized bananas on delightfully thick French toast- Jon and Nancy know what they are doing! The above mentioned were quite delicious were well worth it! Also, echoing other reviewers, the customer service is really outstanding- they treat everyone awesome. I even saw the staff double checking a to go order to make sure nothing was forgotten. And it's great that there isn't a wait compared to some other over-hyped venues. Only kids option is pancakes, so we def overpaid for some eggs and bacon w/ toast for our little - which is what she likes. WOW!! I've lived in the neighborhood six months and finally ventured here for brunch-and this will not be the last time I am here! Brunch was amazing and the desserts we had are some of the best I've ever had. I'll start with those. Strawberry cheesecake/light and airy with fresh strawberries on top-best item followed by the fresh fruit tart. They put strawberry on the bottom of theirs instead of chocolate. I prefer chocolate and yet this dessert is still delicious! Both are expensive yet worth the splurge from time to time. For breakfast I had a crepe special-I didn't love it yet the crepes were really good. Berry crepes were scrumptious along with the sweet potato hash-yum! Their bacon is awesome! Thick and full of flavor. The owner was taking our orders and he was super friendly. They make almost every time in-house. We had a hankering for pancakes, and having already tried all other options in South Minneapolis, decided to visit Berry Sweet Kitchen. There was off street parking, no wait, incredibly friendly staff, fast service and, best of all, delicious breakfast fare. They make all their breads, and their chorizo, in house and it is all amazing. Our favorites were the French toast and the egg sandwich. This place is very kid-friendly without any of the stress of other breakfast places that have long waits and rushed service. You could linger here and fill up on self-serve coffee and actually have an in depth conversation. It's far from fancy, but that is part of its charm. Went here after hiking in minnehaha falls. It was only a 5 min car ride from the falls. I had the classic burger and it was a perfect portion for the price. This place has renewed my love for brunch. For awhile all the brunches I went to I would be super excited about but the meal always fell short and I went home disappointed. This place was not one of those run of the mill assembly line establishments, it is in a different category. The owner was kind , took his time , of course there were mistakes which he effortlessly fixed. This place is like eating at the table in a B&B or at a family get together. The no waitress's thing was slightly weird, but not a turn off. I feel the pricing was decent , but I'm from the East Coast and everything is pricey. Only thing I dislike was through out my meal I was forced to look at a table full of dirty dishes from previous group. I was here for 45min and no one ever came by to bus the table. Some of the best diner breakfast food I've had. The hashbrowns were perfectly browned and wonderfully seasoned along with my delicious scrambled eggs and an amazing browned biscuit with gravy. It was way better than I would have ever expected. I also ordered one of their homemade doughnuts (which were HUGE) to go and because it was a little later in the day (around 11am), he threw in another one for free. Both were delicious, even after sitting in the car for a bit while I did errands. I also got a glass of fresh-squeezed orange juice and a side of their house-cured bacon. The bacon was very thick-cut and smoked and was also amazing. A large-portioned entree, glass of juice, side of bacon, and the doughnuts came to just under $25 which was a little more than I expected but ended up being well worth it as I was so satisfied.
