First of all, I am a sucker for southern comfort food and fried chicken sandwiches. I have been to this breakfast spot 3 times and ordered the same item each time because it is that good. The biscuit is perfect, the fried chicken is exceptional, the sausage gravy is divine, the bacon is cooked well (and I'm kind of picky with bacon). Fabulous combo. I really can't speak highly enough of this place. My wife enjoyed the other breakfast sandwich pictured and noting how crowded this place has always been says a lot. The only critical thing you could say is the location is in a small strip mall with limited indoor seating but the ambience is great if you do find a seat. I will continue to go out of my way for this place and recommend giving it a visit. read more

Take note, the sandwiches are serviced with biscuits, not their bread... which was a bit of a bummer. On a downside, the service was very poor. It could have been a bad day, but the service here was very rude and seemed very annoyed. They have a good selection of breakfast items, including a lot of pastries as well as biscuit related items. I ordered a bacon egg and cheese biscuit, with the egg fried over easy, and I enjoyed it. The biscuit was a bit on the dry side, and the bacon was overcooked and slightly burnt. The egg was cooked well though. My family also tried a Downtowner, which was a flaky pastry with some cinnamon flavoring - it had a nice crispy and texture and wasn't too sweet or overpowered in cinnamon flavor. The other pastries they tried they also enjoyed. The place was very busy and so it took some time for us to order and get our food, but the service wasn't unreasonably slow. I love coming here for breakfast! There is always such a great variety of baked items and made to order breakfast items that satisfy my palate. I also enjoy their coffee options as well. Depending on when you get there, it can be super busy with little seating or moderately busy with some seating lol. There is some street parking a a small lot that's shared with several other businesses so if you don't mind walking it's worth it. Staff are very friendly and willing to provide a recommendation. A must try is the donuts but they only have these on Wednesdays. The pizza, which they only sell on Thursday nights was a big miss for me. We just ordered the pepperoni and it had too much cheese (and I LOVE cheese, especially the stringy kind) but this was super greasy and chewy in a weird way. We threw most of it in the trash. As a meat replacement for breakfast it is WAY too large, too soft and missing any texture to it but soggy! Ok what an adorable spot. Stopped by on a Saturday morning to get a brunch and coffee. Unsurprisingly, this place was packed. It took us awhile to get to the counter to order. I got an iced coffee and a pastry (I'm totally blanking on the name I apologize). The pastry was almost like a cinnamon roll-croissant hybrid kinda thing. Aka...it was delicious. The one downside is the to go cups for hot drinks didn't hold up very well. I requested the rest of my tea in a to go cup. However, an hour later, I noticed a small puddle in my cars cup holder. If you get your drink to go grab extra napkins, or get rid of it sooner. That said, I'll return to try more baked goods next time (like the Baklava that looks like a cinnamon roll). read more

Lovely place to have breakfast with a small group (easy to find tables for 4, higher than that, it gets difficult during their busier hours). I have been here several times for breakfast/brunch and have had an amazing experience each time. I stopped in to Sun Street Breads on a weekend and couldn't have been happier with my choice. For dining in, I had an egg and cheese sandwich - the biscuit was the epitome of crumbly, buttery goodness and the egg was perfectly cooked how I had asked for it. The cappuccino was delicious too. I got two pastries for take away, both of which was delectable as well. Of note, they do get busy on the weekends but I didn't have too much difficulty finding a table even at peak hours and they do refill the pastry case so don't be disheartened if what you want is initially not there. I have been coming to Sun Street Breads' Pizza night for years and it never disappoints. Available on Thursday's from 5-8 pm, this is a great place for a cute date as well as being family friendly. I love the signs by the bathrooms that are movie posters but are pizza themed. It can get pretty busy here with our last time being a nearly 30 minute wait so just be prepared. Counter style service for ordering and then wait for your delicious eats. They also have local beers on tap to enjoy while waiting or while dining in. The Sun Street Pizza was my order of choice this time which is my goto. Pizza consists of creme fraiche, bacon, goat cheese, serrano pepper, red onion, arugula and the pizza is one sized (10") for $11.25. I can eat this pizza in one sitting but those with less of an appetite can take some leftovers. The Goat cheese on pizza isn't done enough and is consistently great. You get crispiness of the bacon along with some spice from the Serrano peppers. There is a good amount of crust so recommend some marinara for dipping. Sun Street is always a good move on Thursdays if in the mood for some pizza with fresh toppings on elite crust. read more

I've been here once before and completely forgot to write a review that time, so here we are. The main reason I came here was to try the biscuits & mushroom gravy. Let me tell you, it's SO hard to find places in the Twin Cities that serve biscuits with non-meat gravy. Mushroom gravy is my weakness. And Sun Street's is just perfect. The biscuits taste similar to brioche rather than thick biscuits but it's okay because I still love it. There's plenty of mushrooms in the gravy. It's creamy and comforting! Today I got to try their raspberry scone and sweet potato & chevre pastry - both were delicious. The raspberry scone has lots of sugar on top so it makes for a nice crispy outer layer. The scone itself is moist and delicious. The sweet potato & chevre pastry is unique - the main reason I wanted to try it. It was pretty good for a savory pastry! Worth trying at least once. I got a soy latte for my husband who is lactose intolerant and it was a bit watered down tasting. He didn't like the coffee much. But I reviewed for the food and pastries because it's so worth it. This place was a complete surprise to me. It was suggested by a friend after we couldn't grab a reservation at a different restaurant, and I can that we should have just come here in the first place. I was concerned when we walked in that we'd be waiting or not get a table because of how many people were there. However, the line moved at a nice clip and it didn't take too long before we were eating a delicious breakfast. Essentially everything there is made in house, and the passion for the food certainly speaks for itself. I had a Biscuit Sandwich called the "Southern Fried", which was fried chicken, bacon, and sausage gravy served on a nice, flaky, perfectly cooked biscuit. We also decided to try the toast flight, with 3 different types of Toast and Preserves. One of the Bread styles didn't really speak to me, the the others were fantastic, and crispy like toast should be. Finally, we ordered the poutine (because, well, if poutine is on the menu you have to!). The poutine was great, however I think that the sausage gravy caused the delicious fries made in house to get a little too weighed down. Maybe a little less gravy would have helped the dish. I did a late breakfast here on a Sunday about an hour before closing and was pleasantly surprised. A spin on the old Juicy Lucy, the Juicy Piggy was a lovely jalapeno jack cheese stuffed sausage patty which I opted to have a sunny side egg dropped on top. Sitting on a warm, soft, yet a bit crumbly biscuit, it quickly became a delicious, oozing, mess just filled with that sausage & yolk flavor. The lettuce and tomato added a nice touch of crunch and freshness which made me feel better about my indulgence. Yes, I wanted to lick the plate but they were kind enough to bring me a small piece of sour dough so I could mop up all that goodness. Located not far from Patisserie 46 it was at Sun Street Breads that Saturday Breakfast began, the first of three stops finding Chef Solveig Tofte and her team serving a full house just as they have been since opening in 2011. Designed as a European Bakery focused first on technique, Chef Tofte a one time competitor in Paris' Coupe du Monde before returning to Minneapolis where her Baguettes and Loaves quickly sold out at Kingfield Farmers Market, 2018 now sees Sun Street serving as a full-service Restaurant for Breakfast and Lunch from Tuesday through Sunday. Set up for counter-style ordering with what would appear to be plenty of seating, menus near the door and on walls allowing most to compose an order while waiting in line, it was finally reaching the front that plans for Pancakes were terminated in favor of six Pastries, the total cost just over $20 a veritable bargain for tastes starting out with a Viennoiserie densely packed in Green Onions, Sweet Potatoes and Goat Cheese. Continuing savory with a still-warm Biscuit, several layers of Buttermilk and Flour riddled with Sweet Corn and Bacon plus pockets of Cheese, it is in tribute to Healdsburg Creamery that Sun Street offers The Downtowner, a laminated spiral rising high in the middle where it is gooey with Butter and spices while the exterior is generously covered in Granulated Sugar Frankly impressed by the variety offered from such a small display, the enriched Dough of an Eastern European Kolach next spilling fresh Blackberries and Cream Cheese, suffice it to say that no Clotted Cream or Preserves are necessary to enjoy Tofte's Raspberry Cream Scone as both are already incorporated into the buttery base while an item dubbed "Crusher Croissant" skips overly-sweet Frangipane in favor of housemade Almond Butter and inserts two cores of Chocolate at the center of shattering Dough flecked by Salt. read more

Sun Street Breads was amazing! During our trip to Minnesota we dropped in the day after the honey wasn't feeling so well. So we grabbed a bread plate, which was perfect to help settle his stomach and came with three delicious types of toast, butter, and a mouthwatering compote jam. My chicken and a biscuit was absolutely wonderful, very light and well considered, with the gravy on the side - it was utterly perfect. I could have it a million times and never get bored. I also loved the all access bathroom with a cute small stool for shorter people and my ice tea was just divine (with one free refill)! If we ever come back to MN we will definitely, absolutely, positively be coming back to Sun Street. It was adorable! read more

The biscuits and gravy here is soooooo affordable and delicious. The biscuit is obviously good because they are a bakery. So they know how to whip up a tasty biscuit. The gravy is also very flavorful. I always get the sausage gravy but I think they have a vegetarian option as well. I like to add a sunny side up egg to it, I enjoy the running yolk and gravy mixed together. The half size is so big. I think it's only about $7-8 which is such a steal. It is a bit small inside and you just order at the counter and sit. If you like biscuits and gravy as much as I do. Go here. Don't waste your time on the other breakfast/brunch places. read more

My only complaint is that the parking lot is incredibly busy and every time I've been in the area there are so many cars that it deters me from wanting to try to circle around over and over for a spot. read more

Stopped by with a buddy of mine for pizza night. I ended up ordering a meatball grinder on baguette and my pal the basic mozzarella pizza. I added a small Caesar salad and a slice of banana cream pie (that I really didn't need but found unable to pass up). My salad was a bit bland but a reasonably decent rendition of the classic side. The grinder was filled with well spiced, densely rich meatballs and topped with a generous amount of melted cheese and marinara. The bread was nicely toasted and paired perfectly with the ingredients. Not overpriced at $8.50. The 'za was pronounced tasty and seemed a good value at $7.50. The pie came very close to entirely justifying the extra caloric count. Very good but not sublime. The line to order seemed to move very slowly. Once through we had to wait a bit for a table to open up. But, for as busy as it was we couldn't complain. Also, even though it was packed with families with younger children, there was little clamor or din. The atmosphere was amazingly laid back if not quite tranquil. Obviously pizza night is a popular event and you'll want to plan accordingly if you decide to give it a shot. But overall a worthy option. read more
