If you're thinking you are eating at Betsys from years ago, that is just a memory. Food meh - 3 cheese omelette as flat as a chip with not enough cheese to fill inside. Nothing more than folded scrambled egg. Home fries large and chunky more like boiled potatoes. No substitutes and no itemized bill so unless you have memorized prices from menu have no idea of accuracy. Other comments have mentioned best diner in town - it is the only structure of an older diner but there are much better breakfast places in the vicinity. read more

Had a fantastic brunch here. The rat pack omelette was packed full of bacon, sausage, onion, ham and pepper. The food our other two guests ordered was really good as well. The only odd thing was an additional $2 for the fries but the waitress explained that to us before hand. Our waitress was the best and personable, she was prompt and came back to ensure we were satisfied. She offered the kids crayons and something to color as well. For the price we had a great brunch and we're comfortable in the large booth we were sat in. I want to be clear. I was here last year to the day and experienced the same. But I always give a place a second chance. We went for breakfast We were seated pretty quickly, the place was not busy. We then waited 10 minutes before the waitress even acknowledged us as she walked by saying, "I'll be with you in a minute." Five minutes later she came and asked if we wanted drinks. She brought us our drinks then walked away without taking our order. Finally she came back and took our order. It took about 30 minutes for our food to come out, not once during that time did she come to check on us or refill our coffee. When the food finally came, first came the omelet. She walked away without a word. Two minutes later she brought the toast that came with the omelet and started to walk away again so I asked if my wife's meal is coming to which she said sarcastically, "Of course." Five minutes later my wife's sandwich comes out, no apologies. We had to ask for silverware and napkins, none were on the table. Now I ate a cold omelet and my wife ate her Monte Cristo. No apology or explanation for the long wait. The food here is at best average, so to have bad front end service and poor kitchen timing skills makes this place a no-go. Avoid at all costs, there are plenty of other better places for breakfast and lunch. read more

We have frequented this diner whenever we are in this area. I read a few bad reviews, and we almost didn't go back. But I'm glad we ignored them because it was fantastic!! Somewhere between 2 and 3. Betsy's is ok. As others have noted... they have pretty standard breakfast fare. For me, it is hard to mess up eggs and potatoes. This morning I tried an omelet special: 3 eggs, onion, ham, and broccoli (i skipped the broccoli), ,potatoes and toast for $8.25. Seemed reasonable. The omelet wasn't bad... but it wasn't memorable in anyway either. The coffee is slightly above average. And yes, they do make a big deal about not using phones in the restaurant. It doesn't bother me but others might find it annoying. Moonikas, about 15 mins down the street is better for slightly more money. read more

A great place for breakfast. Food was fresh and tasted great. Portion sizes were huge and the price was very reasonable for the Cape ($10 for pancakes), $14 for French toast, eggs, bacon and potatoes. Place was busy but we were able to get seated quickly at 10am on a Saturday morning. I thought we would have to wait longer. If we make it back to the Cape we'll stop here again. read more

Love this place! The food is cheap, quick, delicious, and the portions are huge! The waitress's and owners are very nice and accommodating. There are a lot of options and they serve breakfast all day. There isn't a lot of waitress turnover which tells you a lot about a place. Betsy's is a little run down looking but very clean and has a lot of spunk and character. It's a real old-school train car diner with the food to prove it. This is a DINER people. Don't come here expecting to be waited on hand and foot. Sometimes when it's crazy busy (ie summer) you have to wait and be a little patient. If you want a boutique insta-worthy experience go walk 5 minutes to the center Falmouth and eat at one of the bougy new restaurants popping up there. read more

Not the best but not the worst diner I have been to. The food wasn't anything outstanding and the service not great. Our waitress forgot to put in our order. She came back to ask if we had ordered yet. She then put in our order. We waited about 45 minutes for food that was "meh". Our water glasses were dirty and had to be replaced. I couldn't sit back because the booth back was super sticky. Bottom of the plates were greasy. We tried it because it was one of my husband's go to places in college when he visited the Cape. We've been to Betsy's (hey, that's me) before and that was the reason we decided to come back. Granted that was years ago and we didn't have 2 kids in tow, but it's a diner and could things really go wrong? Yes. The waitress was quick, but she wasn't any kind of friendly (I do realize people have off moments). She about crushed my son's heart when she told him, point blank, that they didn't have any ice cream for a strawberry frappe. Umm, ok. Bummer. My very picky boys both ordered plain macaroni with butter and Parmesan on the side. The butter was ok (though it looked like the whipped kind that is much better suited for pancakes) but the Parmesan was not. It's color looked off and definitely didn't taste right. Granted we weren't at an Italian restaurant, but still. The "side of the day" for their meals never came, and at that point, we were more than ready to high tail it outta there. My BLT was lame and I couldn't see paying extra for a side of fries when the price for the sandwich was already a bit high. And if I'm still on the complain train, my water tasted, well, gross. Not sure why and I'm certainly not a water snob, but yuck. Suffice it to say, between this that and cash only, we won't stop back next time we are in town. read more

Apparently they were bought (so new ownership)...That probably explains why the service was horrendous and the food was way overcooked after a 45 minute wait! We didn't even get an offer of more coffee The waitress had a major attitude and called the manager over. He was about as useless as she was!!! Went to Betsy's yesterday w my mother a place we have gone for many years and was very disappointed. I ordered the turkey dinner which used to be fresh and delicious w real cooked turkey and now it's been replaced by pressed turkey that was microwaved for way too long. The turkey was tough and chewy the stuffing was also microwaved for too long and was scorchingly hot. I ate half of it because I was starving and told the very nice waitress it was horrible and she did offer a replacement but I was feeling nauseous from the turkey and told her no thanks. While my wife and I were looking at the menu a older gentleman came in asked the waitress, in a sheepish voice, if he could have a cup of coffee. He also said he didn't have any money. The waitress didn't hesitate and sat him down at the counter, poured him some coffee and asked if he wanted something to eat. We went to Betsy's for breakfast one morning since diners are usually fun. This one wasn't. I found the whole experience to be rather annoying. A good quarter of the menu was taken up by a list of rules like no cell phone use, no feet on the chairs, etc. What are we five years old? The waitress actually came over and made a comment about my friend using his phone to text. Sorry, but we needed to let our other friends know where to meet us... It took me a while to figure out what I wanted to eat. It was a mix of me being put off by the rules and the seemingly odd pricing. French toast was like $6 and nothing was included, but the scrambled eggs were $1 or $2 less, but came with toast, home fries, and a meat. It didn't make sense. I ordered one of the specials, but she came back 10 minutes later and said they were out of it, so I got the scrambled eggs. They were average. Our waitress was rather forgetful and hard to get a hold of. I was never able to get a refill of my water, even after asking twice. My friend had to get up and go find her to get a refill of her coffee. When we were leaving there was a sign by the door that read "complaint department" and had an arrow pointing outside. If the list of rules didn't annoy me enough, this was the icing on the cake. It was obviously just a fun decoration, but it just goes to show what type of restaurant Betsy's is. It was sunday and pretty busy but we got their around 830-9am so we didn't have to wait more than a couple minutes. The menu had a huge list of "rules" on it for customers such as no cell phones, which I thought was really odd and kind of lame. It is just good manners to not use your phone while at a restaurant but providing rules was a bit off-putting to me. My breakfast was ok, not the best, not the worst. Their iced coffee tasted old and a bit burnt. Their marble rye bread was the size of my head, I could have filled up on that alone! It was yummy though. Betsy's is a classic, traditional diner, not trying to be anything fancy. Betsy's is not trying to go local, go organic or go gourmet on you. Step back in time and just enjoy it for what it is. It's fried eggs over easy. It's blueberry muffins, buttered up and grilled. It's pancakes and sausage, french toast and bacon, all served by an efficient wait staff who could care less about your questions regarding the source of the eggs and if the chickens they came from are free range. It's old timers who come here every day, casually watching you and sitting around with the local paper. It's Wonder Bread toast. Pour on the salt, pour on the Aunt Jemima syrup and gulp down those calories. It's fun to let out the belt a notch or two in a classic diner like Betsy's, especially with the kids. They will like it here and they are always made to feel welcome. When we come off the boat from the Vineyard very early in the morning, we often stop into Betsy's. (Breakfast food on the ferry? No thanks.) The kids love the casual atmosphere and Granny loves the fact that everything on the menu is just like the things she had when she was a little one. None of that over the top, gourmet stuff like arugula and heirloom tomatoes as part of her breakfast, thank you. There's plenty of parking, it's clean and it's affordable. And you'll be stuffed and satisfied when you leave, although your cholesterol level may be through the roof. I don't mind taking a detour into Betsy's when I am in Falmouth. In fact. I stopped here for breakfast because the local crew I was working with said it was the best breakfast in the area. It was pretty good. Nothing spectacular but I'd eat here again. The service was mixed. The guy who greeted me at the door was very polite and happy. Reminded me of Captain Kangaroo actually. The waitress serving me was uninterested in being there and I'll assume she was just having a bad day. The food was good. The pancakes were good sized and came with ample whipped butter. The coffee was very weak. The eggs and bacon were cooked just right. The home fries were subpar though. Half were dry and overcooked and the other half were undercooked and cold in the center. No flavor at all. Throwing in some onions would have helped. Prices were reasonable considering the portion sizes. My food was served up surprisingly fast. The place was reasonably clean. Sitting at the counter, I was constantly jostled by the kids running up and down the aisle but that's more a reflection on bad parenting rather than on the diner. Leash laws shouldn't be limited to dogs. They only accept cash and traveller checks so plan accordingly. There's enough signs around though to point that out so it shouldn't be a surprise. read more
