I am impressed. For a restaurant in a military facility this place is amazing. Dinner was about the best I have had in the last week. I was impressed by the Shrimp Tempura and the Fried Calamari. Found the Seafood Puttanesca worthwhile and flavorful. The Coconut Cheesecake a dessert you must have. The facility was clean and well maintained. Service quick and professional. Oddly, the pigeons roaming about seemed something you would pay attention to, but the staff was oblivious to them. read more

Food here is excellent and the prices are even better! The crab cakes and coconut shrimp was delicious. The crab cakes didn't have that fishy taste at all and was crispy on the outside and moist on the inside. We ended up eating here two nights and tried the Cajun shrimp pasta, luau salad, salmon Caesar salad, filet mignon, spaghetti & meatballs, fish & chips, mud pie, and haupia cake. All of the foods were served quickly, fresh, and piping hot! If I had to choose which ones I enjoyed the most it would have to be the cajun shrimp (so creamy and seasoned to perfection) and fish & chips (crispy and soft fish)! Yummmm! I wish I had pictures of the food, but unfortunately with a fussy one year old that was too difficult lol. Don't know why there are so many negative reviews. I've eaten here too many times! Each time they failed to impress me with their service or the food. My mom, who has eaten here over the years, said it's gone down in quality. It wasn't anything spectacular, it was edible. Wife and I had dinner here, there were plenty of tables, but we were told the wait was 30 minutes. It only took ten minutes before we were seated. The waiter was very friendly and took our orders right away. We had the crab cakes for appetizers and the were very good and loaded with crab meat. For dinner I had the 18oz Ribeye, it was good the way I wanted it (medium) and had great flavor, no need for steak sauce. My wife had the baby back ribs, but she didn't enjoy them at all, said they was very dry, and she during like the rub. The waiter took it off our bill since she only ate a small portion. I've eaten in the restaurant at Biba's 3 times and ordered takeout to my room at least half a dozen times over 4 visits to the Hale Koa. Each time, the food was well prepared and tasty. I've had the Paniolo burger, glazed chicken, and pizzas, but my go to order is the Ono-licious Loco Moco with an additional side of steamed veggies. Good drinks at the bar at Bibas too, and they'll make to go drinks for you to carry away as you walk around the resort. read more

We ate here two times on our trip. The first time we had lunch. The food was alright but the drinks were nice. One of our group members got food poisoning though. However, we are a brave yet foolish bunch. The second time we had dinner. The filet was cold and dry. In fact my whole meal and the meals of others in my group were cold before we got them. We were hoping that the food poisoning was a fluke but, during this meal a different member of our group got food poisoning and a few other members had to make constant stops at the bathroom due to eating here. We chose to eat at Bibas because we wanted a break from burgers and snack food. We definitely regretted the decision. The food was overpriced based on the quality. The catch of the day was cooked well but seasoned terribly. The filet tasted like a chemically seasoning. Similar to fake smoke. The veggies were so undercooked they were difficult to chew. Portion sizes were below average considering the price. We are not large people by any means and we ended up going to Happy's after to get a burger to share. My toddlers pasta was so undercooked that it was crunchy so she ended up eating something at Happy's as well. Service was okay. We were brought waters, then someone else delivered our food, but no silverware or drinks were provided to our toddler so we had to ask for both. New Chefs At Bibas! We had a large party this Sunday evening at Bibas. We parked at their huge lot across the street. (They validate) Walked through the hotel to the indoor/outdoor Bibas Restaurant at Hale Koa. Our waitress was Rowena, she was SO on it! She anticipated everything we would need. Our beverages never got to the half way point. The bread basket featured their in house made warm rolls with butter, YUMMMM. The Pacific Cobb Salad is TO. DIE. FOR.!! They would make a killing bottling that dressing! (Pipikaula crumbles, maui goat cheese, avocado, teardrop tomatoes, egg,roasted beets, miso ginger dressing) It's a huge dinner salad that all of us shared. $16.95 The Island Style Ahi Poke (Ahi, avocado,okinawan sweet potato crisps, avocado oil) was fresh and flavorful. Their Angry Chicken Wings (Spicy gochujang hot butter sauce, garlic cucumber salad, kim chee aioli) would make you drool! $9.95 The Taro Crusted Crab cakes were almost too pretty to eat....almost :) (Blue crab, chinese taro, pickled watermelon relish, thai green papaya salad, thai coconut remoulade) OMG - the best French Onion Gratinee! (beef stock,caramelized ewa sweet onions, sherry, french baguette croutons, bruleed swiss cheese) $5.95 I won't ever eat this anywhere else in Honolulu. No photo from Chef Erwin's July special - bone in pork chop with their featured pineapple theme, or the succulent English Pub Mahi Mahi, (kona longboard battered, yuzu citrus tartar sauce) friends were too fast for me. The Shrimp and Angel hair Pasta was cooked to perfection. (black tiger shrimp, white wine lemon butter sauce, angel hair) $22.95 We only had one taker for dessert...with many spoons :) Their house made coconut ice cream was molded in to half a coconut shape, using cocoa powder as the shell, cascading with fresh fruit. Ordered the Hawaiian Pork Sliders and Crab Cake Salad with Roasted Tomatoes. We did take out and opened our food within 3 minutes. One small tasteless crab cake on a small handful of lettuce and a few tomatoes with a single grill mark. Three small sliders that appeared to have been left under a heat lamp too long. The flavor was decent. Curly fries that were cold. They said 15 minutes but it took 25 and we took it from the employee when they brought it out. One Star: Convenience is the only good thing about this place if your staying at the Hale Koa Hotel. The service wasn't good. After placing order server went missing for at least 20 min. When I see him again and asked for straws he came through the dinning area twice and served other customers still no straws. The food was the worst food since I've been in Waikiki. I ordered the Chicken Alfredo and it was so distasteful and bland, with two little pieces of what looked like microwave pieces of chicken. The portions were not worth what we paid for. We finally ate at the restaurant in our hotel after a week of trying other places, and Biba's didn't disappoint. Had a really tasty Loco Moco and the other half had lettuce wraps. All food was tasty and setting was nice at an outdoor table. Prices weren't as high as other hotel restaurants we visited, and drinks were yummy and cheap during happy hour. This is suppose to be a vacation resort/privilege for Military families, but the cost for dinner here negats any benefit. This restaurant is located at the Hale Koa hotel. To eat here, you must either present a military ID or your hotel key card to prove your a guest at the hotel. There was a line to get seated when we arrived (party of 3), but once we checked in with the hostess, we were seated right away. They have a good selection of food, from different appetizers like poke and calamari, to pastas, pizzas, and steak. The prices are a bit pricey, but I guess that's expected since it's located in a hotel. I ordered the kalua pork pizza. For $16, I probably would not order this again. The pizza taste exactly the same as the pizza they sell at their snack bar a few feet away, which is less than $10, so, your basically paying for the ambiance at the restaurant and they put a relish type sauce instead of tomato sauce in this kalua pork pizza, which tasted mediocre to me. My take - Five stars for the service - accommodating, quick, responsive - five stars for the 18oz ribeye - five stars for appetizers (although the four stems of asparagus could have used some friends). My aunt, uncle, and cousin came from Maui for Thanksgiving. They wanted to eat at the Hale Koa's buffet, but when we went to get in line, the line stretched around the corridor of the hotel. My uncle was familiar with Bibas so he suggested we go down there, instead of elsewhere to eat (because they were most likely busy too). Bibas is downstairs in the Hale Koa hotel. From their regular menu, it looked like they were "italian" but only offered pizza (I didn't see much pasta), steaks, salads, soups, and lobster. They had a holiday menu which included a turkey dinner, salad, and dessert (to be honest the menu made it sound way more elaborate than what it really was lol). Service seemed slow due to so many people. Our server was very attentive but you could tell he was stressed out and overworked. I think if it wasn't a holiday he'd be a very good server. Wish they put on more staff to help him out. Overall, food was meh. I wouldn't go out of my way for their food. read more

This is my 7th trip to the Hale Koa and Bibas has never changed. It is the absolutely the worst customer service I have ever experienced on Oahu. Each time I come back to the hotel I try keeping an open mind expecting things to be at the island norm or better. The staff at Bibas for the most part is ok, they probably do what they are told to do. Who ever is the manager needs to be fired, period. The bar staff needs to be fired or distributed where they do not have to deal with people. read more

Staying at the Hale Koa and first day in town it was easy to go to Bibas, it was convenient and looks really really nice. So I go with my kids and I was somewhat disappointed. The wait was quite long and it wasn't too busy. There was many empty tables. The food was not worth the price. For a $25 plate of ribs that's all you get, ribs. The side of veggies and rice were on a plate as small as a coffee saucer plate and even the plate was too big for the sides. (See pic) the burger was not flavoured with anything it seemed like. So why 3 stars, well my daughter loved the pizza! It's hard to mess up pizza! And our server was a very nice older man. I'm not going back only because there's so much out on town that this was a one time stop! So if you have more time on your day one, go somewhere else. $85 for 3 kids and me was waayyy too much! read more

Tried calling this place for over TWO hours on Friday night while stuck in my room at Hale Koa with my sick daughter. Nobody ever answered the phone. At 8:30, 30 minutes before they stop dinner service, someone finally picks up. I asked if I could place an order for room service, they don't do room service, only take out orders. Ok, maybe I can run down real quick while my daughter sleeps and pick us up some food. Nope, they've stopped take out orders for the evening because it's too close to 9pm. Worse service ever. Large parties can be difficult, but we are a fairly easy going bunch until you cross us. We were on the heels of a fabulous wedding reception and were with the father and mother of the bride for a celebratory drink and meal. So we were on quite a high. We waited patiently at the bar for our table and had a round of drinks. The drinks themselves were...ok. Nothing too outstanding, but not bad. My dirty martini had a bit too much bite, but that's probably due to the cheap house vodka. Anyways, we were seated about 30minutes later. We ordered our food and water and waited. And waited. 1 hour later, our waters arrived. The table next to us, which was roughly the same size party and who was seated AFTER us, had eaten and left. Our waiter was nowhere to be seen. When we tracked him down and inquired to the whereabouts of our meals...his response was 'burgers take a long time to cook'. Wow, really?! You are telling us that it takes 1 hour+ to make a round of burgers and pizza? You must be kidding me. At this point, the former sergeant (please keep in mind that this is a restaurant in a military hotel) in our bunch promptly stood up and looked for management, which of course was no where to be found. Our food finally arrived, some of which was cold. The burgers all had the wrong buns...I ordered potato and it was clear to me and everyone else at the table that they were all mixed up. So to add insult to injury, the waiter had taken a plate back to the kitchen and returned claiming that no, the buns were correct. I have never seen a potato bun without flour on top nor a onion bun that tasted like potato. After another search, management finally arrived, but the half hearted apology did not make up for the lack of service and poor attitude from the wait staff. Maybe the food would've been decent had it been hot or even cooked. (one of the medium well burgers was rare in the middle.) I guess the one good thing...we didn't have to pay for any part of the disastrous meal. So much for a celebratory feast. read more

This restaurant serves up appetizers, salads, pizzas, sandwiches, entrees etc. The catch though is that you have to be a member of the Armed Forces, or know someone with a military ID to be able to eat here. I wanted to desperately like this place. But everything about out dining experience was upsetting. First, it took almost 10-15 minutes before our waiter even took our drink order. Which would make sense if they had been busy, but they weren't. Not only that, but everything was way overpriced. Given the fact that I could have eaten a decent buffet upstairs three times over for the price of our mediocre meal at Biba's. Our appetizers were alright. I had the crab dip and would probably order it again, but my husband's wings were unappetizing and boring. My pasta was extremely bland and my husband's pizza was soggy, which made us want our dinner to end as soon as possible. The only problem was that our waiter was nowhere to be found. And then when we finally flagged him down to order our dessert, he continued to treat us like we were an inconvenience. Now when we finally got our dessert, our usual creme brulee, and it came out without its beautiful burnt sugar crust. Which was extremely upsetting. But to top off the entire night, we sat down with empty plates in front of us for nearly 25 minutes before we finally had to ask for our check. It's safe to say we will not be making a return visit. My party and I enjoyed the breakfast buffet! $13.95 per person. Didn't wait long to be seated outside. The waiters were attentive. Breakfast meats only included bacon and sausage patties. Omelet station has an option for egg whites, for meat only ham, some veggies and cheddar cheese. The waffles were fun. Tiny waffles cook in 3 min. An assortment of toppings - pineapple, mac nuts and toasted coconuts with coconut syrup was delicious! Assortment of fruits, the tiny cut papayas I kept going back for more! Oatmeal, couple different cereals, traditional eggs benedict and chocolate and marshmallow topped bread pudding! I would recommend this buffet for a quick breakfast at a reasonable price! read more

I wanted to like this place because the luau food at Hale Koa was good but so many things kept counting against it. Pros: You do NOT have to be a guest and they validate parking which made our trip into Waikiki cheaper. You might need a Military/DoD ID but they never asked us. The king crab legs were really good and huge portion, more than enough to share. Lobster ravioli had a lot of lobster in it and sauce was very good (also see cons) Cons: VERY slow service. In the first 40 minutes we were there, our waitress came to our table once, to take our order, which we were more than ready to give because we waited so long for even that. Lilikoi margarita tasted like a very bland bad regular margarita, the after taste was basically like water. Sides are what you get at a bad banquet hall, bland over cooked steamed veggies and mashed potatoes that I am fairly certain were from a box of potato flakes and not fresh potatoes. Portion of lobster ravioli was very small, only 5 regular size ravioli and no sides, if we were not also sharing the king crab legs, would not have been filling at all. We ate here twice during our stay at the Hale Koa Hotel. The food was really tasty as were the drinks. I found that my favorite was the Lava Flow :) I was quite happy at the fact that as soon as I placed my drink order, the waiter brought it right out. Not true with the food. I'm not sure if it was because it was the weekend or because it was Veterans Day but man...it took a long while for our orders to get to the table.
