Hale Koa has been our go-to place for over two decades - always high praise and reviews from us. However, Sunday evening at 7 PM we were seated at Biba's after 30 minute wait - no problem for us. ordered and waited, and waited, and waited. Server apologized twice saying kitchen was behind - waited - server brought two cups of complimentary soup while we continued our wait. After 37 minutes we just got up and left. I would estimate at least half of the tables were empty, but there was a line outside waiting to be seated with approx 30 minute wait time. Our impression: severely understaffed by servers and kitchen help. Sad - - - these events all too often are the beginning of declining reputations. read more

Worth the walk from Waikiki beach. Bibas is located inside Hale Koa hotel that caters only to military members and their family. With that said, it is not packed with tourists. To clarify, Bibas is open to everyone, not just military members. read more

I had the pizza or I should say they called it pizza. The toppings were good but the crust was terrible. It was like an old slice of bread. I told the chef so maybe they can get something better next time. The rest of the group had steak and they were good. read more

I would like to say that this was the best burger that I have had on the island. I have been craving a burger for a very long time. Let me reiterate... I have been craving a great moist burger for a very long time. This is the place to be, if you need to get your burger fix. They are the experts with beef... We also had the skewers... The marineate was awesome... I will definitely be coming back read more

Service was so-so here. It was friendly enough but not quite attentive and a little awkward sometimes. There food was hit or miss. The Asian braised short ribs are amazing though. Alaskan Snow Crab was good. It's a nice, casual atmosphere to relax and enjoy your self, friends and or family. They ask for a hotel key card at the hostess desk so not sure if you can eat here with just a military id or if you have to be a resort guest. Not an amazing place, but I think it's just what we need most of the time when we stay here on vacation and don't feel like leaving the resort. read more

We ate at Bibas while staying at the Hale Koa. The food was decent although unimaginative. Service was very fast - but the restaurant was only about 1/2 full. Prices are of course excellent for a dining establishment on the Waikiki beach. I feel like there was a bit of a language barrier with our waiter which resulted in some misunderstandings about the food/menu, but it wasn't really a big deal. Overall, no complaints but nothing to write home about either. read more

Service: Was incredible slow for not that busy of a day. Took over 30 minutes for us to get our food. Server disappeared after we got our food and it took forever to get our check Taste of the food was decent. Nothing special but not bad. Price: way too expensive for what you get. If you are going to spend that kind of money there are much better places to go to all over Waikiki. read more

DO NOT EAT HERE. Today I went for lunch and I didn't even stay for my food the gave me a dirty water cup with red lipstick on it. When my husband told them the water cup had lipstick around it the waiter said oh maybe our dishwasher didn't clean it and went on with his business. I touched the lipstick and it wiped off and how as a waiter you can not clearly see red lipstick on a cup before giving it to a customer furthermore a pregnant customer.Disgusting. read more

Terrible service and the place was empty. Waited 20 mins to order. Had to ask for bread, then butter, then lemon for the salmon, then had to ask for parmesan cheese for the pasta. Prawn with fettuccine had chopped prawns in a light orange sauce that looked and tasted like Chef Boyardee. I will never go back. If I want Italian I'll go to Olive Garden. The only nice thing about having lunch there was meeting Biba who was very warm and friendly. read more

The restaurant requires military ID or a room key for the hotel as it is a military only hotel. But if you can get in it's got great food. I had a pretty good loco moco although it was the least favorite of our table. The short ribs and the ribeye were very good. Don't go for the Italian style pastas--it's not their forte. read more

I had the fish. It was over cooked and cold when arrived. Simply awful! Will not be eating here again. Service was terrible as well.

A while back my wife and i had dinner at this place. If you can get in, its a fabulous deal i think. We ordered the tempura appetizer which came with shrimp and vegetable tempura fried as one - nice variation on the theme. The tempura batter was not traditional Japanese, but my we both thought it was good. I ordered ribs and my wife had some kind of Japanese buckwheat noodles which again had a twist on it that didn't make it traditional Japanese. Overall i think what they try to do with their Asian dishes work. Obviously you can't really go wrong with the American food here. read more

Food was ono. Great service. We didn't wait long to be seated or for our food. We really enjoyed our dinner.

Food was decent. Spendy for what it actually was. We felt the portion size of the Alfredo was a bit small. For a hotel restaurant it wasn't bad. read more

So I ordered the fish tacos and my wife got the crab legs. We've never ever done this before but we both took one bite and couldn't eat anymore bc of how bad it was. I politely called the waiter over (who was such a nice guy) and asked for the bill. He insisted we didn't have to pay the bill. We left him a $20 and departed, never to return ... unless they improve their seafood menu. Beautiful location though. And nice staff. read more

Just tried to go to Bibas for lunch with my 4 month old and my 4 year old. My greeting was "oh he's all wet". My son was in board shorts and a shirt with barely a drop of water on him. She turned us away and wouldn't seat us because of that. I even offered to put a towel or two underneath him and she said, "no sorry, you can go to the snack bar". Thank you for supporting military families Biba's.. NOT read more

Usually we order appetizers to go but this time we thought we'd dine in. I had the sirloin tips which I thought was a great choice till I was almost done and saw a baby roach crawling across my plate!! I was totally disgusted and literally felt sick! Everyone at my table stopped eating and my friend who had her meal boxed up ready to go left it on the table. When we called the waitress over to complain and show her the roach, she just said oh sorry, let me get that out of your way. What?!! That's it? I should have been more pushy, but they didn't seem sorry or apologetic in any way. When she had the nerve to come back to our table to ask if we wanted dessert, I replied, "Hell no, not after I just saw a roach on my plate!" Yuck!! read more

Unpleasant dining at a very noisy busy open air facility. Decent fish, great chicken tenders and terrible pizza.

Ordered the lilikoi baby back ribs with fries and vegetables. The ribs were good, but it only came with about 10 fries and 6 veggies. Also was disappointed with the appetizer, the caprese martini. I think this place gets a lot of complaints - it's not the worst place in the area, but you can find better for your price. read more

Our first time here last week I have this place one star due to not being approached by our server for 20 mins after being seated. This time was a little better but the food wasn't very good. We ordered the burger and fettuccine Alfredo. The burger was the only good thing about this meal. The chicken Alfredo looked like it came out of a box being very oily and tasted more like pesto than Alfredo. The ranch they gave me tasted exactly like honey mustard while managing to still look like ranch. Pretty disappointing for the military's "premiere" stay on Oahu. read more

Horrible service, s-l-o-w service for a $15 frozen totinos pizza. Beware. Waiter couldnt speak English...or should i say Engrish.

Good place to eat when you want standard American food at moderate prices (if you are authorized access to the Hale Koa Hotel) when staying in Honolulu. For our dinner, my wife and son ordered the cheese burger cooked "medium." I ordered the fish and chips dish. My dish was a very large side of cod fish with steak fries; the crust on the fish was crisp as were the fries; my dish was delicious and the fish was cooked properly. My wife's and don's burgers were cooked well done and not medium; it still tasted "OK." Our server was not the brightest bulb in the bulb bin. All in all, we found our dining experience very good at this restaurant. I highly recommend this place when you want a break from the more exotic Hawaiian and Asian cuisine common on the island. read more

We came to dinner around 8pm and had to wait about 10 min to be seated. The server was very sweet but when we were seated I felt super rushed ordering so I just got what my husband got (surf and turf). Horrible mistake. The rare filet mignon was super tough (my parents cheap well done steaks are better) and the lobster was the worse I have ever had. Now granted I should have known not to get this meal, but I figured I can usually I can tolerate bad food, this was barely tolerable. read more

Bibas is one of the restaurants at the Hale Koa Hotel. I ate there twice and found the prices to be reasonable. The service was not as good as other places; it was more like the service you'd get at a restaurant with a buffet, but there was no buffet here. As such, waitresses would disappear for long periods of time and did not check up on you to see if you needed anything. As for the food, I had the linguini carbonara, which was pretty good, and I'd get it again. The other time I went I got the crab legs, which I thoroughly enjoyed. They give you 1.5 pounds if them, which I believe worked out to be 4 big legs/claws. You get melted butter with this, along with sides; you won't go away hungry. So it was highly enjoyable, but at $38, was by far the most expensive thing on the menu. I also got a local beer (Kona fire rock), and it was huge. After just one I was feeling it. One time my wife went and ordered a pepperoni pizza. It looked a little small to me, but she was fine with it size wise. I had a bite of it though and did not like it. So stay away from their pizza. read more

Just a heads up they don't take reservations but we went anyway on a Friday night right after the fireworks. We were seated promptly. The service was good as was the food. I had the Monchong (fresh catch) with blackened seasonings and herb butter sauce. My girlfriend had the pork loin and lobster picatta, both dishes tasted great and well worth the price. read more

Burger was way overcooked even though they asked and I told them medium... It was raining and a family w someone in a wheel chair wanted to come in the side entrance so the person in the wheel chair would not get wet and they had to get the manager.. Not customer service focused. read more

I loved the food here. Yes you need to be military or DOD to stay at the hotel, the Hale Koa, but I was never asked to show id when I ate here so I don't know if civilians can eat at the restaurant. Anyway. My wife and I decided to come down from our room and eat at the bar here. The bartenders were very nice and attentive. My wife discovered here new favorite drink here, the pink dimple. We started with the sticky rice crab cakes. They are pretty good but you need to like wasabi sauce as the bottom of the plate is covered in it. I had the mahi mahi which was good and my wife the shrimp tempura. Highly recommend it if you can get in. read more

Visited 4 times and each time I order the same thing, Macadamia Ice Cream. The desert is suppose to come with M& Ms and a cookie, they always forget both. The wait staff is slow and not very friendly. I have talked to the Manager about the problem multiple times about the service, maybe he's the problem, nothing never changes. I didn't go back this time on my last trip. I told everyone that asked me about this restaurant, Be aware..I wouldn't eat there. Prices are high and service is low. read more

Hands down, the best Ribeye I've ever put in my mouth. Chef Jay and his crew prepared an awesome meal. Everything from the Ahi Tuna compote starter, both steaks, and dessert were delicious. Steaks were both seasoned and cooked to perfection. Dinner for two, with an appetizer, beer and dessert was under $100.00. Anyone that complains about the price or quality of the food should be questioned. read more

Came and ate here out of convenience since we are staying at the Hale Koa. The food took a very long time to come out and wasn't all that. The wait staff was very friendly and helpful but the food was underwhelming and somewhat pricey. I enjoyed going out to the food trucks out in town more. read more

Tried to get a table for 4 just to feed our children and they skipped over our family 4 times. Host and hostess were so snub and rude when I pointed out their error. Wasted 45 minutes trying to get a table when we were told 20 min wait. Finally just left angry! read more

We ate here three times during our stay the meals were overly salty. The first night, it was the lobsters. The second night the steak. The third time we asked for no salt and added our own. This is usually our favorite place to dine, but all three times the servers seemed preoccupied and irritated with each other. Kinda disappointing... read more

We did not want to leave the hotel so we decided to eat at this restaurant. The service here is very slow. Food is okay, but seems to be a little over priced for the quality. Some items on the menu were not available as the restaurant had run out of food. The server never followed up with us during the meal. Would not recommend. read more

So, my family and I are staying at Hale Koa and decide to have dinner here because of their 1 1/2 pound Alaskan king crab special. Atmosphere is casual, there was no wait for a table on a Sunday evening. The husband ordered the bone-in ribeye. Was good, nothing spectacular. Our 9 year-old son ordered the Alaskan King crab, came with vegetables and one starch. Crab was over cooked so it was hard to actually break the shell to remove the crab meat because the shell was rubbery. I ordered the Kamuela Caesar salad with grilled chicken. The chicken was rubbery and had no flavor. The Caesar dressing was junk! And the price for the salad w/ the chicken was overpriced at $17.95!!Our 6 year-old daughter order the chicken tender with fries from the kids menu. Her chicken was the best out of all our food! Ranch dressing was delicious. Overall, I wouldn't eat here again the only positive is the tax free dining! Btw, military ID or room key is required to enter and dine here. read more

Why does nearly every place I want to go closes at 9pm?! I had a massage scheduled for 7:30pm and I wasn't gonna get out til 9. Because I knew nothing was gonna be open at 9, I went Bibas before my massage and ordered my food to be picked up at 9pm. They were very accommodating and even wished me a great message. At exactly 9, my food was ready, in a huge bag looking as if i had a ton of groceries in there. Brought it back to my room and enjoyed my post massage meal. I ordered the Kiawe Wood Smoked Roasted Chicken (sort of like huli-huli chicken but this isn't rotisseried). The presentation inside of the to go box was beautiful, complete with silver plasticware. Thank you for not putting my $18 chicken in a styrofoam food box. The 1/2 chicken was huge! Not fall off the bone like hulihuli, but hey, it didnt come in a plasric bag. Lol! The scoop brown rice was small. Come on now, we in Hawaii...2 scoops rice brah! The veggies were seriously on point! Ok, so the best part for me was what was underneath the chicken. It was like a very loose stuffing with poultry ajus, with some kind of green leafy veggie was was devine! So, this little "to-go" episode turned out pretty good. I wish the chicken came with a little packet of Aloha shoyu or two, but was still good! Will definitely return next time I'm at the Hale Koa. read more

This restaurant is inside Hale Koa Hotel (premier US military resort). Hostess will ask for either a hotel key or military ID before you can be seated. Food is hit or miss. Service is OK, not great. We like to sit in lanai area for added ambience. read more

Stopped here with my wife after the fireworks. She had the Pasta with shrimp and really liked it. I had the Rib eye. What A Deal! We stayed in Waikiki for 4 days and could not find a steak this cheap and tasted great. While we where eating the chef came to the table and spoke with us. When I told him that we were celebrating our anniversary, he sent desert to our table at no charge. Very friendly staff ,good food and inexpensive (especially for Waikiki).. read more

Food is extremely over priced for the quality and portion size. Go to Hard Rock Cafe, you can get twice the meal for 1/3 of what you pay at Bibas. You can clearly see that not only the restaurant but the hotel as well is taking advantage of Service Members. We stayed at the Embassy Beach walk. The hotel prose was 22 dollars more a night but included the most amazing breakfast made to order for free. Then every night they provided a free alcoholic drinks,no limits to how many you got. We did dinner two nights here during our stay at the Hale Koa. It's really not bad food, but not great either. The reason that it is really nice is that we twice went in there with a group of 3 and ate dinner with drinks for sub $100. That in my mind is amazing for a restaurant on Waikiki that doesn't say Denny's out front. We did a few different items, mahi mahi which was good for fried mahi mahi. The pizza's were good too. Salad's were good. Overall I'd say the entire food is a good step above Applebees, but certainly not a high end steak house. The service was always quick and friendly. One night our waitress was way over worked but still did a darn good job and was friendly to boot. If staying at the hale koa and on any kind of a budget this place is great. read more
