I've heard of bad chipotles, bad McDonald's etc, but for some reason I thought bibibop would be immune to this stereotype. 45 minutes prior to closing, half of the toppings were missing because they didn't want to make them again. Korean-inspired fast casual restaurant chain - think Chipotle but Korean and a bit healthier (still pretty salty though). Been to this locations many times in undergrad and stopped by recently on the way to the library nearby. Over the years, they have made their regular bowl size smaller, introduced a smaller bowl, then also changed the size of that. It seems now that the small and regular bowl is almost minimal difference in terms of what they are scooping, so if you already know the bowl is a lot for you, the smaller bowl may be more worth your money. For base, my go-to is mix of noodles and purple rice. Their noodles are made of sweet potato starch, so my base also happens to be a good gluten-free option. For hot toppings (black beans, curry chickpeas, bean sprouts, potatoes, and broccoli), you can ask for a total of 4, where "extra" of anything counts as 2 of that. So I get extra beans and extra potatoes, which counts as 4. My favorite 2 meats are their steak and korean BBQ. Well flavored, but again, on the saltier side. For cold toppings, they said they didn't have any carrots and I didn't inquire further if I had to wait for that or not, but that may have been due to me coming at opening. Treated a coworker and myself to lunch. Had it delivered to our office. Dived in my bowl and was so disappointed with the cold hard rice!!! I contacted the Restaurant immediately and informed the Manager, Giovanni that I was totally dis-satisfied with the cold hard rice and could not eat it. He apologized and offered to return 14.00 to my card. To date the money was never returned. I contacted him and was assured that the money would be returned to my card in 3 to 5 business days. This is a great healthy lunch or dinner option in Cleveland. It is located on the Case Western Reserve University campus in the University Circle neighbourhood. This area of Euclid Ave. is filled with new apartment buildings and plenty of food options. I first visited Bibibop in Columbus (Ohio) about 3 years ago when my mom got some free food at an event and told me about the purple rice. I was intrigued about the purple rice but ended up loving what I tasted. FOOD -- Super fresh and delicious. Everything comes in a small or large bowl. You first choose a base (greens such as lettuce or mixed greens, white rice, purple rice, or noodles). Then you pick hot toppings, a protein, and finally a sauce. The hot toppings are potatoes, bean sprouts, or black beans. Protein options are tofu, chicken, spicy chicken, and steak. There are also cold topping options such as kale, carrots, corn, etc. I came here before a Yelp event on 14 March 2019 and I arrived with fellow Yelper (Ilona P.) around 6:10pm. I ordered a small rice bowl with spicy chicken. I added cold toppings - corn, red cabbage, kimchi, kale, cucumbers, and carrots to my bowl. I enjoyed my dinner and appreciate that I could add as many toppings as I wanted without getting charged extra. I got some sauces on the side but they can add the sauces for you as well as you order. FREE MISO SOUP is given with every meal. All you do is grab some soup located at the end of the checkout counter. FOOD TYPE -- Alot of comments seem to be sensitive or angry that this place doesn't have authentic Korean food. Not a bad spot at all. This was also super affordable, given how generous the workers were when building my bowl. BIBIBOP is close to UCity, which is nice if you're living near CRWU. I wanted something healthier for dinner while I was staying nearby Cleveland Clinic, so I didn't mind walking down here to pick up some food. BIBIBOP's menu is definitely Korean-influenced, the concept being that you get to create your own bibimbop bowl. Some of the food items are non-traditional (for instance, the black beans and kale), but I was impressed that the flavors of sesame oil and gochujang were actually spot-on. I decided to include in my bowl a mixed green base, spicy chicken, potatoes, bean sprouts, kimchi, kale, carrots, egg, cucumber, and yum yum sauce. I loved that they didn't charge extra, even though I asked for extras on some of my toppings. I also liked that I paid only $7 for my entire meal. Highly disappointing. Would've given them one star, except the food is cheaper than similar restaurants and decently fresh. It's pretty much korean style Chipotle (build your own bowl). You can get white rice, purple rice, noodles, or lettuce (salad). Protein options are chicken, spicy chicken, steak and tofu. There are a few hot toppings- potatoes, bean sprouts and black beans. And a bunch of cold topping options- daikon, kimchi, cucumber, carrot, kale, lettuce, corn, egg and cheese. Also free miso soup and sauces bar, there are 6 different sauces- cucumber wasabi, teriyaki, yum yum, Korean red, sriracha, and sesame ginger. I got a bowl with white rice, chicken (non spicy), all the hot toppings and cold toppings, sauces on the side. Honestly none of the components of the bowl were flavorful and I was highly dissatisfied. I tried all the sauces, they all have some room for improvement. The bowl was warm, likely related to having mostly cold ingredients, but it would've been a lot better if it was served hot (I realize they can't make it in a hot stone pot like Korean bibimbap but still, I did not enjoy it warm with cold toppings). It also wasn't salty enough, especially to be served on a plain rice and multiple raw unseasoned vegetable toppings. I tried adding some soy sauce but it didn't help much, and I didn't want to drown it in soy sauce. None of the 6 sauce options are salty either, most were more sweet or spicy or sweet and spicy. The miso soup was alright, pretty much just a standard miso soup. I have never eaten somewhere that has been so disappointing and I did not have any amount of enjoyment in this food. I see Bibibop is capitalizing on Korean food's past glory as trendy food. Since then, Korean cuisine has now been replaced with trendy Japanese cuisine. Just like Chinese food was trendy way back then. But what's with people dunking a bunch of food in a bowl of starch then making a fuss over their genius? First it was Buddha bowls, now it's poke bowls, and for Bibibop it's bibimbap bowls. Bowl foods are a pretty delicious and manageable to do at home. I also like poke bowls like everyone else every once in a while. But if I'm coming out to eat a bowl at a restaurant, the bowl better be impressive in taste or aesthetic. Otherwise what incentive do I have to spend my money on something I can make at home well? Oh, and bibimbap is already great when you go to a real Korean restaurant. If you were choosing between Chipotle and another place, you still get a rice bowl here for cheaper and arguably more food that could turn into two meals with the miso soup, so that's a good deal! Be careful about the sauce. I got spicy chicken and did not need any additional sauce. Adding more would be foolish and very heavy. This is not Korean food, please do not be fooled by the name because bibimbap is a Korean mixed rice dish, but there are totally untraditional things you add in a bibibop bowl and I did not remember the meal being particularly hot or warm either. When all is said and done, you'll be feasting with your eyes with all the different colors of toppings, but also leave you full without feeling gross. For about $7, you could get two meals out of one bowl depending on how hungry you are at the moment. They have free miso soup as a nice palate cleanser. Everything tasted pretty good, no complaints, and the portions probably rival Chipotle, maybe more. Seems to be a tad healthier feeling than Chipotle too. The space is pretty trendy and definitely arranged with wait longer queueing in mind. The iffy: would have liked more spice in the chicken and kimchi, but I know that's very subjective. I'd also maybe ask for only half portion of the dressing, although not sure if that would severely cut down on the overall flavor. I'd like to try the steak next time.
