There is plenty of seating outside which is a great place for studying. i enjoyed the egg tart as it was the perfect amount of sweetness and was crispy on the outside. I did not enjoy the ricotta as much. The bread was a bit stale and drier. The peach jam was good but the cheese around the bread was a bit more sour to my liking. Walked in excited to support a local coffee shop with my family, but unfortunately we had a disappointing experience. When we came in, no one greeted us and we stood waiting for about 3-5 minutes even though it wasn't busy at all. I was first in line, yet three customers behind me received their drinks before I did. I only ordered an iced matcha, and another customer who ordered the same drink after me got hers first. The cashier/barista (a white girl with shoulder length brown hair) was not friendly or welcoming at all. The interaction felt unprofessional and dismissive, which really upset my family and me. I rarely leave reviews, but customer service and basic courtesy go a long way, especially at a local business people want to support. Sadly, after this experience, we won't be coming back. read more

Most places I dine at skimp on the salad - they skimp on the quality and freshness of the greens; they skimp on the density of flavor and they skimp on the portion size. Bica's seasonal salad was simple yet nourishing. Green lettuce, radishes (which I hate, but somehow, the way they prepared was delicious) and green vinaigrette that I wanted to lick the plate for. Although the place was busy, the food came out quickly. We ordered a tuna salad sandwich and two of the seasonal salads with a honey almond latte. Ambiance was killer with DJ Ed Roc spinning the tunes; the volume was loud enough for a vibe and quiet enough to converse. Even people walking by were bobbing their heads. Speaking of people, the patrons were so chill and welcoming. A young lady working on her school assignment, allowed us to join her at her table. I dinged it one star because the chairs aren't cushioned. At my age, my butt looks for cushioned seats. I'll bring my own cushion next time. Bonus, I got to meet the owner as we were walking out - such a chill dude, you wouldn't have known he owned the place. We'll be back - with cushion in hand. You see folks of all backgrounds and ages -- and pups! -- coming together and enjoying great coffee, sweets, and a meal. Nestled in Normal Heights, Bica has also made a name for itself for being community-rooted with the events they put on for folks. They have such delicious drinks and food. And of course, you have to try pastel de nata. One of the only spots in town that I've been able to have this Portuguese pastry, it's a must have when here. Tried Bica this morning after our usual breakfast spot had a long wait. My boyfriend and I figured we'd give it a shot. When we walked in, we were the only customers there. The barista didn't acknowledge us at all--no greeting, no eye contact, nothing. She didn't take our order until she was done with the one she was already working on, and even then, it felt like we were inconveniencing her. The weirdest part? Her attitude only improved after she saw that I tipped 20%. I know how that sounds, but I work in the service industry too--I can read the room, and that's exactly what happened. She also messed up both of our drinks, and they were honestly so bad we just threw them out. Now, to the good: the food was amazing. The chef (or cook) actually brought our plates out himself and checked in to make sure we liked everything. Super thoughtful and clearly cared about what he was serving. The space itself is also really cute and cozy--definitely a good vibe. I'm giving 4 stars purely because the food and atmosphere were great. I fell in love with pastel de nata on my honeymoon in Portugal, and now Bica is filling that pastel-shaped hole in my heart. They do it right--flaky, creamy, and just the right amount of sweetness. Rating on the toasts and coffees is a 5 star - they were delicious and enjoyed on their spacious patio on a warm Sunday morning. Rating the experience on a busy Sunday morning for our food was closer to a 3. It took at least 30 minutes for our food to arrive which was a long time considering they were toasts. It was understandable considering the line was out the door and the staff seemed to be working as quickly as they could - so I'm sure it doesn't happen all the time. Perhaps the tough part of being a successful small business! Going back to the food - we loved how fresh all of the ingredients were. During our wait, we saw folks bringing back their haul from the farmers market of fresh fruits, herbs and vegetables which were sure to be used in their food preparation. Been wanting to try this place for a while and it did not disappoint! Pretty small storefront with all outdoor seating but it was a sunny day so we were happy to sit outside. I got the salted honey latte and my friend got the brown butter date latte. Both were very good and not too sweet. They were bumpin paramore and paramore only. Absolutely here for it. They have a cute little food menu with tasty bites, but I was here on a mission for this cold foam. Barista mans was vibing which is always a good start. With a little help I went with iced espresso with the sarsaparilla cold foam. 12/10. Absolutely delicious. The bread was a showstopper in both. I am not a fan of tomatoes or cold tuna sandwiches, but I would order this tuna sandwich again. They sell bread inside, some pastries (sold out when we were there), and other teas/oils/things. Service was quick for coffee and there was a typical wait for food. Even with them busy, they were a well oiled machine. The patio was completely full when we arrived but seats opened up while we were waiting for our food.
