Traveling by with our 7year old grandson SuperMario fan, we just had to stop for pizza at Big Mario's. Glad we did! Friendly servers and customers. Everyone was so nice and helpful and kind. Seems kind of weird to add kind- but they were! The pizza was a hit: classic pepperoni. Large enough to satisfy our hunger and a slice for little guy's lunch today. Note; 21 an older after 10, so expect a dive bar look. The big TV had a nature show (soundless) on in the small room and sports in the big(ger) half of the restaurant. The ambiance is well... what you would expect from a pizza by the slice spot- not pretentious like a lot of these Seattle "NY style" places that charge $9 a slice. The crust wasn't amazing, but it was solid NY-style pizza that made my regular rotation. Unfortunately, things have changed. Prices have jumped while portions have shrunk, and at $35 per pie, I expect more than what my partner accurately described as "not mediocre...bad." The pizza was decent However, I'm not sure I'll be back. On Friday or Saturday last week, my friend and I came in about 15 minutes before close. We were a bit tipsy but just got whatever they had left and tried to be polite and keep to ourselves as much as possible. Our ride was supposed to get there about 5 minutes before close, but they kept making wrong turns, so they were taking a little longer than they were supposed to. About 2 minutes after close, one of the employees told us we needed to leave. I explained the situation to her, but she insisted we get out, and the gentlemen behind the counter started making loud comments about how we needed to get out right away. They kicked us out into the cold, turned off the lights, locked up, and left immediately As someone who has worked in the industry for a long time, I completely understand the employees' actions here. Normally, I would have done the same thing. However, what made me a bit uncomfortable with the situation is that my friend and I are two young women. We were visibly tipsy, dressed for a night out, and without jackets or any means of covering up in the cold. I really debated about posting this review because I understand that my friend and I were slightly in the wrong for being there so close to closing. But after much thought, I decided that what happened in this situation was just really uncool and not a community oriented thing to do in my opinion. I explained to the employees that our ride was just a few minutes away, and I just really wish they had let us stay and be protected and warm inside the establishment for just a couple more minutes. It just would have been the right thing to do in my mind; and as the assistant manager of a local restaurant, I just can't picture myself kicking two young, tipsy, exposed ladies out into the dark and cold at 2 AM so that I could get home 5 minutes sooner. Really it s probably the best New York style pizza you'll ever find in Seattle - all around 10/10 New York style pizza. The slight downside is it can take 15-20 minutes to get your pizza as they generally don't have all the options available for slice; however, you can grab a beer or drinks while you wait. Ambience is OK, I did like going down memory lane checking out all the old school movies. It's basically a dive bar but with the best New York style pizza in WA. This place is big thumbs up for great ambiance and even greater staff. We live a drive away and we never regret making the drive for some pizza and drinks. The pizza always hits the spot. We love a good slice of pizza and Big Mario's Pizza definitely fit the bill! But then again growing up my favorite pizza joint was Sbarro, so I don't know what that says about me LOL! There is something wrong with BM in Freelard. I have been twice on a weekend night where there are no slices . Last time the cook said it would be 45 minutes. An hour later he was telling people walking in it would be 45 mins. We ordered a salad and ordered Pagliacci . Also the bar tender wouldn't let me start a tab. If your 21 and you have a new studded jacket from hot topic you will love this place . The staff will love you and you will all be ok with how lazy and unconcerned you are for customers BUT they will expect a tip in advance . Their custom service just kind of sucks really bad. I went to their website and ordered pizza through Toast, which is the official method they provide for ordering online. I wanted to cancel the order but their was no way to do it through Toast. The app provides a link to call them so I did. I call and it's so noisy I can't be heard by the person that picked up then they randomly put me on hold and someone else picks up that doesn't seem to know why I'm on hold. I explain I want to cancel my order and they say you have to contact Uber without really even asking if I ordered from them or not. You would think the default assumption would be Toast and they would know how to cancel the order since there's know way to do it on Toast? The best part of the experience was my friends card being declined, then my card being declined (BOA cards were having issues I guess?). I always went to the capital hill location. I never knew there was one near Ballard. I stopped by real quick for a slice. Get this one on a weekend night. The place was packed inside and outside. Only a few people had pizzas on their table with beer and or drinks. I walked in to order a slice and guess what there was no pizza. What were they doing in their drinking? Smoking? Playing? Watching movies? Idk on a busy night, there should have been pizza ready to go especially at a place that serves alcohol. Sad the guy said pizza will be ready in twenty minutes. I always go to the Cap Hill location, but I thought "why not try Fremont?" I brought my mother and boyfriend who lives with me in New York (left Seattle for work, unfortunately). We came in an the pizzas in the window looked old. None of my favorite flavors I'm used to from the hill were there. I asked if I could add some toppings to a cheese piece and the guy working there was incredibly rude. Instead of saying "no, I'm sorry we dont do that here" (which another guy ended up saying) he said "I'm not going to make a whole pizza just for you".. which was not needed. I asked really nicely and.. news for them.. "new York style pizza".. it's totally a normal request in NY. It's not weird and everyone does it.. so I thought I'd ask since they had very few options. I don't know if all of Mario's went downhill in the past year or so since I've eaten there but this location is trash and I won't be going to any location anymore.
