We went there while visiting. We had visited the Apex location 2x during our stay and loved it. This location (Cary)was nice and server was friendly but I ordered the bbq egg roll, which I had before and was delicious. My egg roll tasted like grease and almost burnt. I had also got an order to go and had hoped it was better but after getting to the car and checking my order it to was over cooked and soaked in grease. My husband ordered 1lb of brisket and it was over charred on both ends leaving a lot unable to eat. My bf and I checked out this place because it's near our apartment. We always liked the one in APEX but seeing that this is closer to us, why not try it. We were greeted warmly by the host and he promptly escorted us to our table. He was quick with our drink order. However they appeared to be short staffed and our food took a it longer than usual. That's fine. The disappointing aspect was the lukewarm meat that was served, almost like it was sitting there. The sides were nice and hot, but the meat was almost cold and not what we've come to expect from Big Mike's. Aside for that they ran out of brisket- and the bbq meat was flavorless. After driving past this restaurant, the thought of BBQ for dinner and the sight of the pig cooker was irresistible - even as it down poured. I turned my car around at the next intersection and parked out front of Big Mikes BBQ. I was unfamiliar with the restaurant and food truck, so I was a little confused on whether it was Brew 'n Que or Big Mikes. Nonetheless, they definitely had beer and BBQ. As soon as I walked in, I was greeted by the bartender (Trinda) and asked if I was dining in or taking out. I was ordering takeout so she provided me with a menu. The menu was fairly typical for BBQ places in the area with a couple of different items. I decided on two BBQ platters, one with corn bread and Mac n' cheese and one with kale slaw and coleslaw. Each was $11. I also ordered tator tots ($3.50). My order was ready in a reasonable amount of time. I could not decide on which BBQ sauce so they packaged both on the side. When I got home, I realized the tator tots were missing. I called and immediately Trinda apologized, explained what happened, and offered me a free meal next time - very generous. The BBQ was tasty, the vinegar BBQ sauce is strong, coleslaw is dry, and the mac 'n cheese, cornbread, and kale slaw were good. Be sure to mix up the kale slaw before eating since the dressing sinks to the bottom. The portion sizes and prices are reasonable. What can I say...hands down best bbq in the area! I've been here a few times and not once did I have a bad experience. Staff is fantastic and always welcoming. The added seating is nice for larger groups. Definitely try the smoked potato salad, bbq egg rolls and run do not walk on a burnt ends night! Came here for dinner and ordered a pork taco, brisket taco, wings and the smoked potato salad. Both of the tacos were really good! The wings were extremely over cooked but the server never came back to check on us once we got our food. I wasn't a fan of the potato salad at all. Once the server finally came back, I informed her of the issue with the wings and had it removed from the bill. Mike, I paid for the food that was at least edible. Holy Cow (turkey actually). I have been to Brew N Que for lunch several times (usually during the work week). The food is always great. I brought my wife for lunch one Saturday and she was hooked. After lunch, she saw Brew N Que's catering menu and came up with a brilliant idea, order a smoked turkey for Thanksgiving. That is what we did this year. We picked up the smoked turkey at 12 and ate at 3. The turkey was moist and flavorful. You could taste the smoke all the way through the turkey. The skin was awesome. We are going to order this again next year. We are looking to get a smoked brisket for Christmas. I would highly recommend. read more

So yea. This is by far the best BBQ place I've tried since I moved here. We've hit up some recommendations and even a couple BBQ food trucks but this place was super yummy. And we got to relax on a couch and eat. So nice. We ordered nachos, brisket sandwich, and 1/4 lb. sausage with mac and cheese and cornbread for sides. All the meats were juicy. The mac and cheese was BOMB. Cornbread is weird because it typically tends to be dry but theirs was good and came with some butter that may have been made in house? The flavors were so good in everything. Side note: I don't like slaw and theirs was good. I'd eat it again. The brisket I think I got the very end of one and my coworker got the next. Both were good mine was just a bit dry but his was super fresh and moist and awesome Didn't really use much sauce. They have a selection of them. Will go again. It's a bit far from work but on Friday it's a good excuse to go out for a slightly long lunch from the triangle. Amazingly well done food. I've been here plenty of times and always had great service. They even once comped nearly our whole meal when it took a bit to get out (we went bothered and were really surprised by this!) and even take visitors here. Today was the last time we'll come here. I'm not sure if she was new or if we've never had the displeasure of meeting her, but the waitress today was incredibly rude. She ignored us when we came in and acted like we were idiots when we asked her if it's ok to sit in the back. She literally threw the menus at once as we were sitting down, barking "what do you want to drink?!" We has been there all of 5 seconds. We didn't know yet. She seemed incredibly put off by this and stormed off. We left too. She's not a nice person and during these times, our money should go toward friendlier staff. I don't remember the circumstances but I think I was coming back from business in Cary one evening and either spotted it from the road or had looked it up before I headed back to Greensboro. We found Big Mikes BBQ online. People were raving about quality and service. In general, I would wholeheartedly agree, although there have been a few times that the pulled pork wasn't quite as juicy as it usually is. We usually arrive at Big Mikes around 11:30am, after doctor appointments. So, I'm not quite sure why the pork would be less juicy, but still tasty. The quantity of meat is more than ample. I have tried the brisket once. It was tasty, but came in second, behind the pulled pork. The sweet potato waffle fries are slightly crispy and tasty. My wife likes the banana pudding. I'm not a great lover of any banana pudding. My only real desire is that they would serve the collard greens without the stalks. Chris is usually or server. Just moved to NC and knew I had to try some BBQ, and as the first spot I tried, Big Mikes delivered. Got the chopped pork and sausage which were both delicious, they've got great sauce (more vinegary which is how I like it) and the Honey Sriracha Brussels might be one of the best sides they have there. Food quality was terrible, service was deplorable, and the kitchen was slow as all get out! They were not slammed, just a few patrons. When we ordered ordered our beers, and I attempted to make our food order. The waitress replied with, "I need to get other people drinks, I'll be back later." Boy was she right 15 minutes later and 3 take out orders passed before she came back to ask if we were ok. Ahhhh intermission.., So, we have been eating here for YEARS! My wife loved the chopped chicken. The reason I said loved was because it is now served in some backwoods Alabama mayonnaise sauce. When we asked the waitress what that was she said, " we had it for a while, then stopped, and it's back now." Interlude, it's not on the menu description. My wife attempted to eat the salt lick, and promptly asked for another order of chopped chick without the man gravy. What we received was a quarter of the portion size with extra salt. Visited for the first time in a few months and the menu has changed. A lot of the items that made my family fans of this place are gone, like chopped chicken and Mac & cheese. There only 3 platters available (although they were out of the meat for one of those), a few sandwiches and a few apps. Outside of that, you must order meats and sides a la carte. Since they no longer have chopped chicken, I ordered the half chicken. It was the smallest half chicken I've ever seen. There was maybe 10 good bites of meat in the whole thing. A quarter chicken at another local BBQ restaurant has more meat and costs less. If you just want a sandwich and a beer, you'll probably leave satisfied. But if you want a good BBQ meal, you'll probably want to look elsewhere. read more

Visiting Cary from Denver and looking to have some great NC BBQ. We got fast and friendly service for a large takeout order of 2 lbs of pork Q 6 sandwiches with coleslaw and some blue cheese coleslaw. FREAKING OUTSTANDING!! The sandwiches were piled high and delicious with their tangy sauce, served on the side btw. The slaw was perfect and the blue cheese slaw was amazing. The 2 lbs traveled well and was just as good two days later, we froze it. When we return to NC, Big Mikes will be our first place to eat. read more

I found a few surprises at Brew N Que and it reminded me that sometimes it's best to set your expectations aside. My first surprise was the service. BNQ was crowded late in the afternoon so my hubby and I decided to sit at the bar when a family with a small child finished their meals and freed up some seats. It was clearly busy both in the dining area and with a steady flow of takeout orders. An employee could have simply wiped the bar area down but instead came around the bar to sweep the floor before inviting us to have a seat. Every employee seemed helpful and efficient in their work. And, we didn't wait long for our orders despite how busy it was. My next, and best surprise, was a dry-rub chicken wing. Forget wings that swim in a sugary sauce; these wings were nothing like that. The dry rub was amazing. The outside was perfectly crispy with a touch of spicy heat to the finish and the inside was juicy. The dry rub was so delicious that I couldn't bring myself to add even a drop of sauce. Next came my potato salad surprise. The smoked potato salad has its appeal. The smoky flavor of cheesy potatoes is tasty and nothing like any potato salad I've ever experienced. I wouldn't even classify this as potato salad. I'd call them home fries. I'd call them cheese fries. I'd even call them potato surprise. Not potato salad. Regardless, it was very tasty and if you like potatoes and cheese, and you can set your preconceived notions about potato salad aside, you'll probably love these. The collards surprised me but not in a good way. I somehow heard 'kale mix' when I asked about the greens and was hopefully optimistic since I love kale and collards when freshly sauteed and perfectly seasoned, especially with garlic. I must have imagined hearing 'kale mix' since I don't recall seeing any kale. Unfortunately, my hopes may have been a bit lofty. They weren't as tasty as I would have liked and I wasn't a fan of the thick stalks included with the greens. The bleu cheese cole slaw was tasty and different. I love bleu cheese but maybe not enough for the generous amount in this slaw. I preferred my hubby's plain cole slaw but he enjoyed his so much that by the time I wanted more of his, it was gone. Went here and brought out of town guests on a Saturday evening in August at 6. We were seated and basically told we are out of everything but brisket and chicken. It's a BBQ joint, we're here for the pork. Nope says the waitress, we haven't got any. 6 pm on a Saturday in Summer? At least they could have put a big sign on the door but we had already waited to be seated, got a table and had our drinks and then they spring it on us. So really without making a fuss we couldn't leave. So we ate all of our sides and some of the brisket which none of us really care for. Maybe it's a good idea to call ahead and figure out if they have any pork before you head out to this establishment, if what you want is really BBQ pork. I won't waste any time going back. read more

Curious but Big Mike's BBQ has made the move from food truck to bricks and mortar! What makes it all interesting is they're doing a partnership with the View Bar, setting up the menu and food service for the place. I used to hit up their truck from time to time in Cary but wanted to see how they would fare in a real kitchen and restaurant. With prices a bit higher across the board, that means my expectations were a bit higher too. I stopped in on a snowy night with Kuanyu C to check out their new home. Inside, the View Bar is the same but now they're sporting a short menu of brisket, smoked turkey and more. I order up a brisket sandwich and smoked wings to try a couple of meats out. The sandwich is a large helping of smoked brisket slices on a pretzel bun, $9 with no side but still quite good. With a squirt of BBQ sauce it's a satisfying and tasty sandwich. Overall, Big Mike's is off to a solid start and will need to get back after a month or two to see how they evolve. With a full kitchen I'm hoping they will up their game and figure out how to deliver some upgraded eats and meats. read more

We really enjoyed the BBQ at Brew N Que. We ordered three meats (brisket, smoked chicken, smoked pork) and three sides (collards, mac n cheese, smoked potato salad). The sides were all excellent; the mac n cheese was very creamy, the collards were flavorful, and the potatoes were covered in cheese (which I love). We also enjoyed the meats, although I wish they were a bit more tender. They offered a vinegar based sauce and a sweet sauce. We preferred the latter, but perhaps that's because I'm not a true Carolinian ;) This spot also has a ton of local craft brews to try. We didn't have time, but would definitely partake next visit. The staff was very friendly, and the space was inviting. Overall, not the best barbecue I had in North Carolina, but definitely tasty! The environment is worth the trip alone. read more

My brother is in town for only one night. He specifically requested bbq. I ordered a bunch of food at 9:40am for a pickup at 8:15pm when his flight gets in. At 7:40p, I got a call letting me know they'd just run out of brisket. I said I was confused since I ordered first thing this morning. The person on the phone said that they "get" the ordered when they come in, but they don't "process" until a few minutes before hand. While he did apologize, the only remedy was that I could call the apex location and see if they'd be able to fulfill my $120 order at the last second. I asked him to not cancel the rest of the order until I could confirm with apex. But the second I got off the phone, the cancelation email came in. I get that things happen, but true customer service would have been calling apex directly and then calling me to let me know they could relay the order if I wanted to. ‍ Probably going to take a break from this location for awhile. Super frustrating to scramble for dinner at the last second when I did my part to plan ahead. read more

Wait staff was super friendly. They had a great selection of craft beer. The food came out quick. We had the sampler platter. Sides were baked beans and bleu cheese slaw, both very good. Sausage was the best thing on the platter. Brisket was tasty but not the best I've had , tasted more like roast beef than brisket. Chopped pork was dry , at least we had Carolina type vinegar sauce to rectify that. Smoked chicken was pretty good, not enough smoke in it. Wings were smoked then fried to crisp them up. My first encounter with Big Mike's store front located on 1222 NW Maynard Road, Cary, NC beside Great Harvest Bread. At Brew n Que storefront I ordered One Pound Chicken, Pork, and Beef with collards, macaroni and cheese, coleslaw, and a jar of Pickled Okra as a take out order. Received a loyalty card with frequent customer meals and a takeout menu. I Should have Carefully checked the Bag for order accuracy. Got shorted in my order on all three meats and no printed receipt was put in my bag. Called the store back and spoke to Big Mike about the problem. The food here is absolutely incredible. We stopped here after doing some grocery shopping in Cary, and it was well worth the time and money! The burnt ends were beautifully tender and tasty, and the chicken was absolutely delicious! Their mac and cheese tasted like they really put care and love into it. Some BBQ places almost seem to add mac n cheese as an afterthought, but this place really makes it good! Their collard greens were also good, and tasted very yummy and clean (collard greens fans will know what that means). The egg rolls were also to die for! For beer fans there were also lots of local beers on tap. The banana pudding is an absolute must-try, as that was the perfect end to our meal! The atmosphere was very homey and comforting. It was quiet and intimate without being awkward or slow. The servers were attentive, engaged, and very welcoming!
