Took my car in for new tires and alignment thinking everything would be fine. Got my car back and about a 4 days later I noticed my tie rods were bent and the boots were cracked to hell along with power steering fluid everywhere I just had 2 different state inspection done to the car everything was fine before I took the car there. I came back and ask them to fix that and they said that's impossible and that they would an another warranty since the alignment after they so called aligned it was worse then before they did that. I have records stating that someone checked out everything okay and after they touched my car these problems arised from them working on it. Leaks and steering problems don't come over time and these are bad they don't just spring up over night. I am not happy. I am a mechanic myself I work on differentials for race cars and off roading vehicles. They treated me like they don't ever mess anything up that's impossible. Take creditably for your actions and stop acting like the problems you caused weren't touched by your mechanic when he was working on that area of the car. Thanks for nothing. read more

We've brought several vehicles here for tires/brakes/suspension issues. Jason and Brian are incredibly knowledgeable, and keep you in the loop as to what is going on. The store gets really busy, but they do not sacrifice on customer service. They went above and beyond my expectations when my vehicle was there for 5 days (occupying a service bay), based upon a mistake of a third party in supplying the wrong parts - twice. They didn't make a big deal of it, they knew it wasn't my mistake and we were both essentially held hostage waiting for the third party to send the correct part(s). This place is the absolute worst! I went in for an oil change and got a call saying my brake pads were metal to metal and needed to be changed. And that they would do so for $400! I took advice from people around me and they said they will take a look. When I got someone I know to open up the car and take a look there was about half of my brake pads left. How dare they do that to someone!! I'm blown away by how dishonest they were. I also heard someone speaking to their customer over the phone saying, "if you want me to do it, I'll do if(after they asked how much, I'm assuming), otherwise come pick up your car and slams the phone! I typically go out of my way to go to a Big O Tires to get anything related to tires on our 4 cars. I will never go to this location again, though! The PSI should have been at 36, but after 40 minutes into a long trip after leaving the store, the tire pressure alarm screamed. I immediately contacted the store and they said they that happens a lot on CX5s. But, when I got to my destination 450 miles later, I had another Big O store check it; the PSI was at 45!!!!!!! Update: After I posted this review, the store contacted me and asked what they could do to get me to increase the number of stars. They explained that their air machine had been set on an incorrect setting, not PSI, and it has now been corrected. My stars are based on the attitude of the person who took my phone call. Mistakes happen, but when they are reported, I expect to be respected. (Had my tire pressure sensor been so sensitive, I would have heard that alarm before driving 40K miles!) The store sent me a check for 1.33 tank of gas for some of the extra gas it took on my trip driving with super over inflated tires. read more

I had all four tire replace over the weekend. Since I don't know anything about tires, I had to replay on Big O Tires recommendation. The store manager Jason called 10 minutes later saying he found better tires for me for few dollars more. When I came home after they replace the tires. I searched online for tires they just replaced, and it is one of best tire for my car. I trust Newark, Big O tire shop. I also had a problem that a small dent appeared on a hood. It seems a worker put a tool in an engine bay and close the hood. Though Big O Tires didn't admit they did it Jason told me to bring the car in few days. My car had a tire that had a slow leak, so every time I would fill it up with air, a few days later the tire pressure would go down. Smiley face scam artists. I went in for a tire rotation and alignment. I was told that one tire was bald and could not be rotated. I rotated the tires myself at home and returned the next day, mid-afternoon. I dropped my vehicle off and walked home. I was told I would be called when the vehicle was ready (@ 60-90 min). No call came. I called them three hours later at 4:30. I returned and was told I needed lower ball joints: The cost has jumped from $125.00 to $629.00. Add two new tires for an additional $350.00. The grand total is @ $1000.00. I collected my keys and drove away, without purchasing any "service." These crooks make money, the same old fashioned way their competitors (Wheel Works, Pep Boys, Goodyear, etc) do: By jacking ("upselling") you and I, the unsuspecting, non-mechanic, credit card holding public. Be prepared to get ripped off (up-sold). I have been a customer of this Big O Tire shop for 20 years. And I always knew the staff and found them to be very personable and helpful. Over time past 2-5 years, things started to go south. This is when they hired new guys and decided to offer more services aggressively. They started to check oil, brakes, and air filter, etc. One time, they told me I needed to change air filter and oil. I consented. After the work was done, I went home and opened the hood. I was shocked that the filter valve was not reconnected. The next morning, I found oil dripping out the bottom of my car. So Big O did not bother to wipe excess oil off the bottom of the car. Now my garage is messed with leaked oil. The last straw was the tires I purchased last year. With only 22,000 miles, the tires were worn. They did not want to honor the warranty because wheel alignment was not done at the time of new tire purchase. What??? They did not even offer it and there is no record that I had refused the service. Why would any customer want to void the warranty for a set of tires they just spent $600 for??? I'm done with Big O and will never go back or recommend them to anyone. Everyone should avoid this business establishment like diseases. It's a failed business. read more

I just bought a 2010 Mini Cooper from Craigslist so I took it to my trusted German auto family business for a safety check. On their checklist they said the rear brake pads were good-6mm left- but that the right front tire needed to be replaced. So, I went to Big O. They ordered the tire and it came in quickly, which was awesome! However, when they called to tell me my car was done, they said my rear brake pads were down to the "bare minimum 3mm" and that I should "get them changed immediately". Obviously that was not true since only yesterday I got them checked thoroughly. So, I called my mechanic at the German auto store and he confirmed it was 6mm. I confronted Big O and simply showed them the 6mm comment my mechanic wrote down and the manager got very defensive and angry at me which was so embarrassing and completely not my fault. I understand if there was a mistake and they offered to check it with us there but I did not want to stay for that. My dad ended up checking it later and it was over 3mm. I basically didn't appreciate how the situation was handled; they could've been more understanding. read more

There was a time I would have given them a 6, but, they must have changed management or something. Went in for an oil change, and they charged me $8 more than usual for bringing my own oil in. Then the guy comes back and says we can't rotate your tires because they're too worn. I was pretty sure that was wrong. He nicely had picked out a new set of tires for me, for $500. I said I would not be getting new tires at this time. I went by a Les Schwab store and they said I still had 50% tread left on my tires. And the whole encounter felt wrong. Just something had changed there, the way they acted with me, etc. So, you lost a customer by being too greedy. It takes months or years to build customer loyalty. I have been coming to this Big O location for years and I bring my car and my wife's car here to get serviced and new tires. I was always treated with respect and was happy about this place and would keep coming back and give them more business. That was until this past Saturday. I brought my wife's car here to get 4 new tires. When I got to the counter, I was quoted a price per tires that I approved. The store manager mentioned briefly regarding some kind of "tires insurance" that added over $64 to the bottom line and was optional and could be removed from the price at the end of service. Also, I clearly indicated that I did not want a "nitrogen fill" tires, which would add about $5/tires. All was well, or so I thought. When I came back later in the afternoon to pick up the car, I went ahead and paid with credit card. Within 5 minutes (I was still in store), I noticed that the "tires insurance" was added to the bottom line and politely asked the store manager for a refund. After all, (1) I have not taken delivery the car, (2) I have not used the insurance and just unknowingly paid for it; (3) most of all, the store manager STATED in the beginning that the insurance is optional and could be removed when requested! To my horror, the store manager flat out refused to refund the amount and that got me and my wife upset. When we asked again for a refund. He literally, "The answer is NO". Mr. Store Manager sure knew he was the most powerful man in the store and surely treated us accordingly. Now, if there is a NO REFUND policy for "tire insurance", why it was not disclosed to me in the beginning? The store manger simply sneaked in the insurance, along with the "nitrogen filled tires" at the end and never mentioned them when I tried to pay the bill.! That was outrageous and totally unacceptable. Me and wife both felt we were being taken advantaged of and deceived. What ensued was an loud and heated verbal exchanges between us and the store manager. He kept saying we paid therefore no refund (never showed me the NO REFUND policy). Up until now, I still do not know if this is indeed a strict no refund policy or just a trick to pad the bottom line. However, from a customer service stand point, I think this place failed miserably. Nobody deserved to get shoved down their throat with something that they don't want. We do not deserve to be treated this way. What happen to "achieve 100% customer satisfaction"? After a long (felt that way) verbal struggle, he relented and we got the refund. We are quite disappointed regarding the whole ordeal and just wanted to leave. Is this the kind of customer service and big attitude I can expect from Big O now? The whole incident totally change my impression of this company to the worse. I will never come back to this place. I hope they reflect on it and better themselves in the future. Came here for new tires today for my Honda insight. Big ole was the only location that can get my tires the same day and have it done the same day. I also decided to go with them because they provided shuttle service so they would drive you to where you need to go and then pick you up to pick up your car. I had a pretty good experience at Big O. This place is a joke. The manager was arrogant, he did not even want to look at my valve stem issue. Maybe he is afraid with dirts getting on his hands?! I came here with leaky valve stem. I asked the lady at the cashier, and she looked confused. She went into talking to someone in the office asked is this counts as 'flat tire' work. The guy who came out apparently asked me to move my car 10 feet closer to the shop. Then he went back in. He told me to wait without even looking at the problem. I waited a few mins. I'm inherently wary anytime I walk into any autoshop, maybe unfairly so. I guess all the years of stereotypes have left a lasting image of all service techs being out to scam the unsuspecting public. However, today I was pleasantly surprised by my experience at BigO in Newark. My 2 week old Civic caught a nail right smack in the middle of the front passenger tire, so I needed to get it patched. I drove it over to Wheel Works first, and they said it would cost $30 and 1.5 hrs worth of time. Since I was on my lunch hour, I couldn't leave it there, so I went to BigO which was directly across the street. Ron, said he could take care of it right away and said it would only cost $20, so I dropped the car off and went to grab some lunch. By the time I finish my Wendy's grilled chicken sandwich, the car is pretty much done. I know this was just a simple tire patch that takes a tech less than 15 min to do, but the quality job and great customer service I received did not go unnoticed. I definitely won't hesitate to come back to this BigO if I need something in the future. read more

I got my car oil and filter changed here. No appointment, just walked right in. Representative Matt took my info, estimated it would be finished in about 30 minutes. They had a small waiting area with coffee but I decided to wander over to 99 Ranch. 35 minutes later, Matt called me to say my car was finished. I used a coupon from a Val-pak I got in the mail for $19.95 oil change. Including tax and disposal fee for oil I paid $20.02 total. So I've seen this shop with managers coming and going and the service ebbing and flowing with the new regime. New manager Chris Padagas has the shop neat ,clean and organized. His team conducts themselves in a professional manner providing quality service in a timely manner. My truck has had 3 alignments at this shop over the years. Some punks decided to be extra stupid one night and slashed the tires of about 15 cars in my neighborhood, including my car! All 4 tires were slashed. What a b*tch. My first instinct was to go on TireRack.com to order my tires. They had my tires in stock at a farther warehouse so it would take longer and cost more. I need tires ASAP! So I started calling local auto shops but they were closed on sunday. I eventually stumbled on Big O Tires. I spoke with Heath and told him i wanted. He said it wasn't in stock but he can order them and it should arrive in 3 days. He quoted the price which was higher. I told him Tire Rack's price and he easily said they can price match. He gave me other suggestions that were similar to the ones I wanted which was very helpful because i mentioned i needed tires asap. Again, he quoted the price and said to check it out online. He wasn't aggressive to make me buy them, which is nice. I did my quick research and even found some that were cheaper on DiscountTireZone.com. I called him back and made an appointment. He told me to print the page that showed the cost and shipping so they can price match and come in. Got my car towed there and Heath helped me right away. I prayed silently that the tires i printed out were the exact ones so they can price match. I always feel they try to make any excuse not to give you the lower price, but thankfully they were the exact same ones..yay! He said it will take 45 mins. And my god, it was done on time =) Great customer service, they price match, convenient location, fast service and they're open on Sundays (thank god I didn't have to take time off from work)! I've bought many sets of tires from them and years ago, I got good service. After that, they seemed more interested in selling me things than acting in my best interest. Also, the warranty on the tires has gotten worse over time. I went in there one day for a minor issue and they tried to sell me new tires. The tires had more than enough useful tread, and they argued that the tires are too old and aren't safe. I mentioned that the tires had a lifetime warranty and if anything went wrong they'd have to replace them anyway. First they denied that such a thing even existed. They finally admitted that it had a lifetime warranty when somebody pointed out that older tires had them, but they then insisted that the warranty doesn't count because the tires were too old and old tires aren't safe. The whole point of a lifetime warranty is that it lasts a lifetime, and if there were a period after which the tires were considered too old, that would have to be the expiration written into the warranty.You don't need to be a lawyer to figure that out, but any lawyer can confirm it for you. Rather than giving into them, I bought the next set at a leading national warehouse club. Ironically, nothing went wrong with the tires between that visit and the end of their life, but they lost the sale and all future sales due to numerous bad experiences leading up to that one. The ones I bought to replace them came with better service. read more

I've been coming to this Big O since '95-96. Put tires/brakes/service on my '73 Stepside, '85 1-ton Dually Silverado, '93 Plymouth Caravan, and now on my "05 Caravan and "07 Frontier 4X4. I've always had good and honest service. I've always done my homework first and had questions when in the shop. I keep coming back because they treat me and my wife and my vehicles right. If they didn't, there's two other two tire stores within throwing disatnce of this Big O and I would/could go there but I don't have to. I see Bob's review below and I would have to concur. Also, and I wish I could remember his name, Ron I think. Checked out my OEM tires 10K miles ago and helped get more "safe" miles out of them with some simple advice before I replaced them. Avoid going to Big O Tires in Newark! they stripped one of my lug nuts with their air tool. I have hard time loosening other lug nuts even with a long breaker bar + my body weight. Apparently, they don't use torque wrench to tighten lug nuts. read more
