I just moved into the area with The Boyfriend and we were looking for a good burger place nearby...hello, Biggie's. This is your typical bar-and-restaurant type of place where you can pop in wearing an old pair of jeans and a t-shirt and not be stared at. We were seated right away and our waitress was fantastic and really friendly. I also had my sister with me and while she complained that she was freezing (I do think she was sitting right next to a vent), I felt fine. We started with house salads with the homemade Creamy Italian dressing and I was blown away! I can't wait to go back so I can order this delicious salad with grilled chicken on top! The Boyfriend got the steak sandwich which was good, and my sister and I got cheeseburgers - delicious. The french fries were good, but nothing to jump up and down about. The portions were large so I had plenty to take home with me for lunch the next day. The only downside was that The Boyfriend found a hair on top of his french fries. Now it very well could have blown onto his plate when our waitress was bringing it to the table, but still - a hair in your food is gross. So when we told our waitress about it, she was very apologetic and took the food away. She immediately put in a new order and it was out right away. She had also offered to take it off the bill instead, but we opted to have them re-do the order. So that was nice that she was so accommodating about it. Biggie's is a fun bar/restaurant that is simple, inexpensive, and old school. The food is the typical American faire, but the quality is surprisngly good. Service is fast and I've been here where the service was ridiculously fast. I am talking faster than a Taco Bell drive through at 2 in the afternoon kind of fast. I really like this place but Biggie-type of restaurants are a dime a dozen in St. Louis. You know the place I'm talking about. Tons of St. Louis sports themed pictures, greasy food, heavy smoke, and a nightly special on pork steaks and toasted ravs. Hey I'm not complaining, I love those things on the right night. But nothing about Biggies really seperates it from any of those other places...well other than it's the closest to me. I met a friend for lunch but our original location didn't work out, so we tried to find someplace close. The billboard outside Biggies advertising their Tuesday daily special of beef stroganoff was the deciding factor (I love the dish), though the exterior of the restaurant did nothing to draw me (older looking & divey, not my typical haunt). The interior kept up the same theme - everything looks kind of old and worn, though very clean...including the bathrooms. It's a much larger menu than you would expect: Appetizers, Soups, Salads, Sandwiches, Entrees, and Pastas. I was pleasantly surprised the breaded cauliflower wasn't drowned in batter & you could taste the vegetable. The strogonoff was amazing, with large chunks of meat and a rich cream sauce. Service was fast and friendly. I find it i strange that Biggies is listed as a dive bar. From the outside it appears to be a bar, but once inside it definitely resembles more of a restaurant, almost a family restaurant. I went in at dinner time though so maybe after meal hours a bar atmosphere emerges? I Dunno. Biggies is not big on beer selection, the crowd they seem to cater to loves bud light. My friend and I went in and got a pitcher of budweiser, and ordered some food. I was told the steak sandwiches out here are amazing, and Biggie's lived up to this hype. I opted to get the steak sandwich on the garlic cheese bread. Delicious! As Homer Simpson would have said "I can't believe I ate the whole thing." If I was back living in St. Louis at the time I would have ate half of the sandwich and to go boxed the other half for lunch the next day. But alas I could not bear to have this delicious sandwich go to waste. I downed the whole thing and felt like I had a brick in my stomach along with all of the french fries. Tasty as all get out though. Biggies is kind of an old time South City place. The food was good, and the place was pretty crowded on that Friday night. Not a trendy place at all, but a solid restaraunt or bar, or whatever you think it is to grab some sandwiches. The bf was super hungry when we went here.... And I guess it was a good thing we came here! Décor: Bar in the front, restaurant on the inside. Think dimly lit, family-style, old-pictures-on-the-wall restaurant. There are both booths and tables. Service: Our waitress was very friendly and was great at both recommending food and serving us. We were the last ones to leave and she was like, "Don't worry, take your time!" Food: Very big & filling portions. We got the tortellini, one of the po' boys (I think the fish one) and I don't remember what I had, sadly. We also had some appetizers, and it was just a ridiculous amount of food for 2 people--- but he finished it! haha. Bottom Line: This place is a place where I feel a lot of families living in the area would just hit up as a baseline go-to restaurant. It really struck that homey, casual feeling with me. And their food was pretty good, so kudos! Note: It's 3 stars because I, personally, don't have that certain attachment for it so I'd rather go somewhere else for a meal. To be fair, the food is what you would expect in an STL dining place: fried ravioli/onion rings/whatever, pasta dishes with a variety of sauces, main entrees (meats with the previously noted pasta dishes), salads, what looked like great steaks (the only things not drowning in Provel cheese). Had the toasted ravioli (not as good as Imo's) and onions rings (light breading, does not mask the onions, very nice), boring red sauce for dipping. My entrée was the Veal Parm: so much Provel cheese, that is all you could taste: it came with a side of overcooked shell pasta and more of that red sauce. I only finished it because I skipped lunch: my dinnermate could not finish it because she did have lunch LOL. Skip it unless you are thirsty. read more

We happened to stop in there on Mother's Day for an early dinner. The staff was so nice! Despite being a bit busy, they did a great job running tables and taking care of everyone's requests. And all of the workers had such a nice and upbeat attitude!!! One of the things we immediately caught! The tables and floors were spotless as well as the menus and dishes. My husband ordered the Steak Modiga and I ordered the Chicken Parmesan. The steak was huge & cooked perfectly as ordered. It was floating in a bed of delicious sauce that was loaded with mushrooms. He ordered a side of onion rings. The best we ever ate (we split the meals in half and shared). Lightly breaded with normal breading; not that gritty crap the fast food joint use, not a drop of greasy taste whatsoever. It was a very large stack too! The onions were nice and soft, sweet flavor, and hot. The chicken Parmesan was a very large breast of chicken nicely and lightly floured and cooked up with a delicious red sauce that just exploded with traditional sweet Italian red sauce flavor. The top was soaked in melted cheese. I ordered a red sauce pasta as my side which had the same flavorful red sauce. Our salads were beautiful and full of veggies and croutons. I got the creamy Italian and my husband ordered blue cheese. Both dressings were delicious. We also were offered a basket of delicious Italian bread and crackers. We had a wonderful meal and will definitely be back when down in this area. Next time we will try some of their great looking sandwiches we saw brought out and can then drive down the street to Ted Drewes for dessert. I was a frequent customer at Biggie's when I lived in South City. I've had quite a few different sandwiches there. The poorboy was my favorite, but I also really liked the cod. Great waffle fries too! There's a bar/lounge area where it gets kind of smoky, but there's also a nicer dining area for families. The only reason I wouldn't give it 5 stars is it's a little higher priced for what you get. However, they have good drink specials if you're getting pitchers of beer, it's in a great location, and service is friendly. Try it out! read more

Incredible strip steak! Did I mention an incredible strip steak? That is unfortunately where the love ends. Everything else about my experience here was sub-par. With exception of the price. It far exceeded my expectations, given the quality of both the food and atmosphere. The dining room smelled like a wet dirty bar mop. Not a pleasant odor while trying to eat. Their Caesar Salad tasted of nothing but garlic.. Garlic in a Caesar Salad. That was my dining companions. I tasted it out of curiosity. When it was delivered this wave of garlic hit me from across the table. You should take note that I am one for whom there is usually no such thing as too much garlic. The Bleu Cheese dressing on my dinner salad was kind of sweet. It lacked that savory taste that I was craving. My baked potato which I got fully loaded was pretty good. Surprisingly good food. When we moved to this neighborhood, we loved the fact that there was a bar/restaurant on every corner. We consistently hit this corner the most. They make everything homemade, even the salad dressing (get the white french). The pizza is perfectly St Louis style (meaning very thin, lots of provel, and a sweet-basily tom sauce). Great home-made fried zucchini sticks. They are always very sweet to my 3 year old, and always accomodating if we show up w/ 12 family members in tow. Big new advantage- smoking in bar only. I can't believe I hadn't heard about this place before! We ordered takeout due to busy schedules. The staff was friendly and helpful. And the food? Superb. I had the chicken con broccoli, which has a delicious sauce. It came with a salad, and I ordered the house dressing. That was the right choice! The cheese garlic bread was scrumptious, and my kiddo loved the spaghetti and meatballs. I will definitely be visiting again soon, as I hear the burgers are some of the best in town! read more

Three words: Get. The. Tortellini. I love Biggie's. It's close to my house, I prefer to support local businesses instead of chains, and even though the inside is a little bit old (except the bathrooms, shiny & new!), it's one of my favorite places to have dinner. I'm not sure what they do to their tortellini, but it's my favorite in STL, even with all the Italian places we have. And their sandwiches, you can get them on cheese garlic bread if you ask. YUM. Lots of history in this place, the walls are full of family and around town pictures. They have really friendly service. You can go with kids, you can go with friends and have drinks (they have 2 huge dining areas and a separate bar area), they have tv's everywhere for sports, and if you're really lucky... on a nice day you can get one of the few sidewalk tables. I should have posted this a while back.... But I haven't been back to this place because of the awful service. I've frequented this place more than 3 times, and tried to give it the chance. I should have stopped after the second time. The 4th time..... We came in close to 2 p.m. on a weekday.... Waited 10 minutes before someone noticed us. When we were finally seated, wondering what took so long, there only 4 other tables occupied. After watching the time (literally 20 minutes! I'm not sure why we held out hope) and not ONE person acknowledging our presence, we got up and walked out. There were hardly any people in there !! Yet, we didn't even get to see a waitstaff member. The other times I've been, the service was extremely slow, but never like the last. The food is overpriced for what it is.... But I'm a firm believer in second chances. And apparently 4. I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone. read more

I asked if they served a pint of beer-the waitress said-"yes". She came back with a small glass of beer and admitted she did not know what a pint of beer was. After a half hour of waiting for my chicken strips-they were not even hot. The waitress said-if you think this is bad-you should see the weekends! I came here with some friends who are from here- said this place has been around for a while. If it's you're first time you should get the steak sandwich. It is a super casual place and a staple to the area. Nice to still see some older bars/restaurants still in business. The food is not going to be a fancy dinner but it's great at food and super bang for your buck! Biggie's, Biggie's, Biggie's, can't you see sometimes your burgers just hypnotize me. Oh man. I don't even know what to say. All the sounds that came out of my mouth while eating here weren't even words. The bf seriously asked me if I was going to have a foodgasm while I was chowing down. I ordered a bbq burger($8.50) with soft cheddar and grilled onions. It came on a bakery bun but I was offered it on garlic bread if I had wanted. I also substituted waffle fries for and additional 75 cents. The bf ordered the grilled chicken sandwich with pickles, lettuce, and tomato. It also came on a bakery bun but he was given the same choice of garlic bread. He played it healthy and ordered cottage cheese with his sandwich. I didn't taste the chicken but the bf said it was good. My burger was freakin' fantastic. Seriously. The best burger I've had in St. Louis. Big, juicy, cooked well done as I had requested. The grilled onions complemented the char-grilled flavor and the bbq sauce. The soft cheddar oozed out of the sides. So tasty. Then to top it off the waffle fries were, again, the best I've had in St. Louis. Maybe anywhere. The were seasoned well but didn't taste too salty. They had a nice texture and an awesome flavor. Our waitress was awesome. Friendly with some flair. She was helpful, attentive, and knew the menu and options well. We sat on the "patio" (tables outside of the building) so I can't speak of the ambiance but the weather was great. We will mos def be back and I'll be recommending Biggie's to anyone looking for a good burger. read more

Tried this place for the first time yesterday and it was really nice, my steak sandwich with garlic cheese bread was amazing, the fries were cooked a little too long for my taste but nevertheless still very tasty. Hubby thought his chicken sandwich was a little dry and the bottles of angry orchard were a little more expensive than what I usually pay $4.50/each. Got pizza and a salad and both were pretty good. Service was OK. Felt a little crammed at my table. Neighbor yelled at my for parking on the public street in front of her house.
