My sister and I were staying at the resort for a conference and was starving given our long day. I ordered a burger and my sister ordered the strawberry salad. Both meals were overpriced and disgusting. The staff was kind and attentive for the most part but the inside of this place felt gritty so we ate outside which was a good alternative. I would have said something about the food but I was afraid that if we ran into a situation were that was the only place that was open they would be tempted to do something to our food. Keystone is pretty much a wasteland for truly good food (as is Summit County as a whole), but at least you can get a decent enough steak and a good bottle of wine at Bighorn. Located on the 3rd floor of the Keystone Lodge & Spa, overlooking the lake, it is a causal, not un-attractive restaurant. At 9PM on a Tuesday in early March, it was almost deserted. Appetizer: Tuna poke -- good size and nice enough, but nothing special. Entre: Filet Oscar -- two thin, tender filets, sauce and a small amount of crab, and a giant pile of garlic mashed potatoes (other sides available). A sloppy presentation, and wouldn't compete with any of the high-end chains like Capital Grille, but tasty and filling. Wine: 2007 Ridge Geyserville Zinfandel. A good $35 bottle for $78, so not an outrageous markup. The wine list is moderately sized but broad, covering all the major US and French regions, and includes a fair number of bottles with a bit of age on them. Also wines by the glass. Good Schott Zwiesel stems. A lot of food, so skipped dessert. Service was attentive, food decent, all-in-all, a good spot for a quiet dinner out in Keystone. 2 stars if in the big city, but 2 1/2 for where it is at. Would definitely return. Sláinte! read more

Hiking 11 miles up and down a small mountain in 4-6 inches of snow can make one do pretty silly things, like spend almost 30 bucks on lunch at Bighorn Steakhouse. The service was great: the waitress was more than patient enough with my not only my relatively incoherent blabbering but also with my interrupting her to get a phone call from work. I seriously wasn't in my right mind. All I knew was that I was hungry and that I just got a crap load of work messages on my phone while I was out in the freaking snow. I ordered a cheese and broccoli soup and they were nice enough to give me a nice cup of croutons to go with it after a request. My meal then consisted of a lamb burger with a side of waffle fries. Now I didn't really know what to expect from my lamb burger, but it was pretty yummy. The meat was mixed with rosemary and garlic and was cooked Medium. Waffle fries are always awesome. But that along with an order of coffee I came pretty close to spending over 30 bucks. Now I've been to some places that charge a ridiculous amount for a burger (which I'll never go to those places ever again) and this place is just another to add to the list. This place simply isn't worth going to if you're looking for a decent meal for a good price (should have realized this when the bartender just outside the place told me to look elsewhere). However. If you just spent all morning eating nothing but trail mix and beef jerky, it just might do the trick. read more

Our group of 5 adults went to Bighorn Steakhouse to celebrate a birthday last night. We saw the mediocre reviews on Yelp, but saw that the restaurant was highly rated on OpenTable so we decided to give it a shot. Here's the rundown of our experience: +1 star for the friendly hostess +1 star for the comfortable booth we were seated at +1 star for the friendly waiter -1 star for the skimpy order of fried calamari that was soggy and expensive -1 star for charging us $2/person for hot water (we didn't even get tea!) +1 star for the yummy selection of bread and butter (wheat cloverleaf rolls, poppysead croissants or peppercorn chedder roll and strawberry honey butter, herbed butter and plain butter) So we're at 2 stars so far right? Let's keep going: -1 star for the tiny scallops in the sea scallops entree...they were about the size of a quarter and the entree only came with 5; we were expecting sea scallops the size of a half dollar; the portion of garlic mashed potatoes was also very small -2 stars for the 2 orders of flank steak that were basically inedible and the french fries that tasted like they were sitting under a heat lamp for a while +1 star for the decent crawfish primavera...tiny crawfish, but I was expecting that since we were dining in a landlocked state and it's not really crawfish season...hearty portion +1 star for the filet mignon + lobster tail that my husband ordered; he said it was pretty good So we're at 1 star now? Bighorn Steakhouse earns their last star because of the complimentary valet parking when you dine there. That totally comes in handy when the temperatures are below 0! Overall, I would not come here again and would not recommend it to anyone. We definitely did not get the bang for our buck as the meals were pretty pricey and portions were pretty small. You'd probably have better luck eating from bar menu in the bar area outside of Bighorn Steakhouse. read more

Food was exceptional, staff was very rude and extremely snooty. On three separate occasions we were denied reservations... On our first attempt we showed up around 8pm and were told that they were too filled to accommodate us. That was fine, after all it was late. The next day we showed up at 6pm to see if we could get a reservation, only to be told that they were reserved for the whole night. Once again we understood, assuming that this place must be in high demand. On the third day we called around 4pm to make a reservation, the girl on the phone was very rude and even laughed while saying that once again that could not accommodate us. All this was plausible and we were ready to move on with out lives and find another restaurant until.... My boyfriend's father called that same day, around 7pm and got us a reservation. Surprised and excited, we got ready and showed up at the restaurant only to find it empty.... On that same night that we were refused because they were too busy, the restaurant was empty... I asked my boyfriend's father what happened when he made his reservation and he said that they were very polite and told him its never a problem to make a last minute reservation... This was my experience at Bighorn Steakhouse... The food was exceptional and expensive, and the staff was rude and snooty. read more

The food was so bad I half-expected a hidden camera crew to come out. My girlfriend ordered the trout and I ordered a NY strip, which was around $40. The quality was more akin to what you would get at an Outback or Chili's for $10. Her trout was very dry. When she flipped it over she figured out why...it was charred black...very charred. It was also missing a couple of the sides that come with the dish, including the sauce. The staff was very pleasant however. They took the dish back and let her order the ravioli at no cost. The ravioli came and it was maybe half way cooked. It was cold, refrigerator cold, on the inside and the outside was chewy like leather because it just had not been cooked very long at all. Clearly it was just some frozen pasta they tossed in hot water for a very brief time. I really was surprised because even a kid could probably do better. I think the entire restaurant kitchen staff must have called in sick that night or something. Who knows. I would give two stars for the nice staff, but at the crazy prices I just can't overlook food that bad. Three dishes and they were all really bad. read more

The Bighorn Steakhouse is a very good place for lovers of beef. They do traditional steakhouse fare that you would expect from a Morton's or a Palm and do offer a bunch of non-traditional fare as well. We started eating here some 30 years ago when my parents got their first condo in Keystone. It somehow became our "arrival day" place to eat and that tradition has continued with my own family. The setting, overlooking Keystone Lake (or skating in the winter) and my parents second condo, is great and the wait staff knows how to take care of you. It may not have the cache of the Alpenglow Stube or the Ranch and the quiet romance of the Ski Tip, but it is a great place in its own right. read more

The buffalo ribeye i order was supposed to be medium WELL but came out bloodier than ever... It also lacked any flavor. I ate two bites and wanted to gag. The waiter should've noticed and taken it back to either exchange it for me or take it off the bill completely. Instead he just asked me if i wanted to box it. He was also very snooty and looked at us at times in such judgmental ways. Not much to say about this place when it comes to significance... Except the amazing view out the window. Incredible that they got this part of the restaurant to capture the view of two mountains, a little lake, and even a rainbow connecting the mountains after it rains sometimes. I have been to this restaurant many times in the past. This time it was an extreme disappointment. The menu was uninspired and insipid. We had the prime rib and it was cooked to order. It was served with mashed potatoes and green beans. The jus Was poured on the plate and had mixed with the mash potatoes so that it formed a wet mush. Its one of the nicer places to eat in Keystone. I liked the decor and the huge chairs and booths. Feel free to dress casual but don't wear your ski gear. Steaks and wine is the best way to go. Side of mushrooms and asparagus were excellent. The wine list is ok but not too extensive and the prices were a bit high. Restaurants need to work harder to offer diversity on the wine list not everyone want to pay $400 for a bottle of Opus. I'd go here again especially after a long day of skiing. read more

My boyfriend and I went here for Valentine's day dinner. It is an older restaurant for a more mature crowd. It was cozy. The food was pretty good, nothing over the top or spectacular. I had the Salmon. The service was also average. Overall, I would not say that you get what you pay for. read more

I really liked the Bighorn, it was the best of the higher end places in the area. The goat cheese app. was waaaaay too good. Service was professional and quick and the view over the lake was beautiful. I have had better steaks in my life but if I had to choose one restaurant to go back to in Keystone it would be this one. Considering we were here between seasons, the restaurant was nearly empty the entire time we were there... However, our waiter, Jim, was knowledgable, entertaining and very pleasant. I would like to leave a better review, but I have to comment, hoping someone will improve this place. We went for brunch with Santa. I'll start with the good- Santa was great, and our waiter was very kind. If this was all I was going for, it would have been fine, however I also wanted to eat which is where is problem came in. The food was basic, limited and tasteless. I think my kids are served better lunch at their school than they did at this restaurant! The "kids" section of the buffet was candy- chocolate, hard candy and gummy candy. Yes, they enjoying that but I was hoping for more of a "brunch"- not a Valentine's party in a 2nd grade class. The adult buffet was also lacking, in selection and taste. I can't believe how much I paid for this meal- don't waste your time go somewhere else! Is making an extra $10 for the restaurant worth a semi-crappy tip for the waiter, a lousy review and a vow to never come back? That's the question the management of this place needs to ask itself. Our waiter was a super nice guy, but after we informed him of our burnt-to-a-crisp artichoke appetizer, he cringed in a supportive manner, but nothing else happened. The rest of the meal was reasonably good--not quite up to $32 entree prices but it's a resort, so you kind of expect to pay more. The bill arrived, and the artichoke was still on there. So I tipped 15%, which is low. Then, I stopped by the hosts at the front desk to let them know the reason for the less-than-standard tip. I asked if maybe our server wasn't empowered to take the charge off our bill and the ladies responded that they knew about the issue, they'd spoken to the chef and decided as a group to "wait it out." They further explained their plan was to give us free dessert if we wanted it or to remove the charge. I explained that we'd passed on dessert yet the charge had not been removed. Who knows what they were really thinking--they asked me after the fact if I wanted to have the $10 removed, but I said it was too late. Nice room, great bread basket. And the jam with the bread was so good we asked for a little to go. And of course my husband got the raved about lobster Mac n Cheese that he said was amazing as the reviews said. Just had a really bad dining experience at The Bighorn Steakhouse. I ordered the mixed grill and the food was so salty I couldn't eat it. The service was equally bad. Our server had a bigger party that came in after us and completely ignored us after they arrived. I tried to report the salty food back to the kitchen, but nobody seemed to care. No manager came to discuss our issues and we were charged full price for the food we didn't eat. Needless to say, we won't be going back. read more

You gotta one because there isn't a negative. The worst dining experience I have ever had including fast food. For starters your chef apparently don't know what butterfly means when it comes to a steak or they don't know what well done means either. The first time the State came out it was pink in the middle and the second time it came out it was still the same shade of pink. we brought this to or wait staff attention she informed me what butterfly mint I told her I knew that. We never got to speak to a manager . We did not get charged for the meal that didn't get eaten. Because they could never get the steak cooked right. After that she asked the individual who did not get to eat dinner if they wanted a free dessert. So needless to say bejeweled didn't get to eat dinner because we had to be somewhere a certain time so I would suggest not going there for anybody.
