Bill's surprised us this morning!! We are familiar with the WG location, and think that it's somewhat mediocre in terms of food quality, also the place interior is pretty tired. So, when we saw over the summer that a Bill's was going up in the Rose Garden we said HMM. It's been a while but we finally got over this morning to try it. We got there at 9:30am and were seated right away. It was packed and we got the 2nd to the last table for 2 before a wait was going to begin. Whew!! Immediately were served coffee and handed menus. Off to a good start. We instantly liked the inside of this Bill's better than WG...it's light and bright and just seemed more lively. We shared the fitness group omelet sans turkey burger (egg whites, avocado, cheese, tomatoes, mushrooms), fruit bowl, sourdough toast....and the buckwheat pancakes with a side of chicken apple sausage. Everything literally arrived within less than 10 minutes. In terms of food quality, we both thought this location was way better than WG one big time. The buckwheat pancakes were very good...I personally love high fibery kind of dense pancakes like these and they were fluffy yet textured in a great way. I could practically feel my body absorbing the precious fiber. Sourdough was nicely toasted with butter. Fruit cup had a good selection of different melons and citrus even though it's the middle of winter. The one thing that I don't love about Bill's scrambles is that the cheese just gets layered over the top, so it arrives with a big yellowy orange coating on top of it is which absolutely is SO not visually appealing. It almost looks like someone regurgitated the cheese onto the scramble. When I make scrambles at home I put the cheese into the scramble so I am just more used to that version I guess. But everything was pretty tasty. My general feeling is that it's hard to have a 'bad' tasting breakfast, but there is a scale of 'good better best'. Next time we'll forgo the chicken apple sausage and get the real pork version...chicken apple was a little too strong for our taste buds so early on a Sunday!! Coffee was plentiful, service was fast. They did put the check at our elbow right after our food arrived which was odd, we just turned it on it's side and tucked it into a small vertical space on the table, paying right before leaving. The noise level was definitely typical busy breakfast diner, but we had no problem carrying on a conversation with each other. They have a few outdoor tables, but not too many and there is absolutely no outdoor ambiance like the one in WG. So if you want to sit inside and have a better looking light interior with what we thought was better food, stick with Rose Garden. If you want the outdoor cute ambiance of downtown WG...head over to that one. You can't go wrong with breakfast, in my opinion!! In the future we'll be sure to go around the same time because as we were leaving, the lobby area was full of hungry people waiting. read more

omg bill! where have you been all my life?! Deliciouss food and mimosas! Came here around 1ish and we got a table right away. A lot of older people eating here. The mimosas were smaller than we expected, but nonetheless, sweet and refreshing. Not very strong. My friend and i shared 2 plates to be able to try more items. We ordered the crab cake benedicts and bread pudding french toast. Both were really delicious. We almost finished everything. Service was ok. Food and mimosas came fast. We had 2 different waiters. When I asked this older waiter for to-go box, he completely forgot. I had to ask again. THIS IS MY ALL TIME FAVORITE BILL'S CAFE LOCATION!!! I have been coming to this location since my freshmen year of high school, so its been a long time. I've been to two other Bill's Cafe locations, but this is my all time favorite. I love all the workers here, they're always so friendly and fast. Even when there is a lot of people, they still seem to make you wait less than other Bill's Cafe location. I always try to avoid all Bill's Cafe on the weekends, because it is always packed!!! My friends and I usually come on the weekdays when there isn't a wait. If there is a wait it is always less than 10 minutes, so come on the weekdays!!! My favorite thing to get at Bill's are there Mexcali Bendicts!!! They're to die for, the Mexicali benedict consists of an english muffin, avocado, CARNITAS, and a poached egg. (It also comes with tomatoes, but I don't like tomatoes) My other favorite thing to get here is their, crab cake bendict. The crab cakes are so CRUNCHY! I love it! Went on Saturday around 10:30 and surprisingly, no wait, the parking lot was full and so was the restaurant. Ordered the potato benedict, was really good with the bacon bits and hollandaise but the presentation was so so. Got the fresh fruit as the side which was great, ripe strawberries and grapes and orange. Then got a side of the cinnamon bun which was a miss, they use it for their french toast, so it was dry, no icing. They could have offered icing as a dipping sauce and it would have been a hit. OJ was fresh squeezed. Friend ordered the parissiene french toast, the croissant got really flat, I think too soggy and didn't have the buttery taste of a good croissant. Not real maple syrup. Her eggs and bacon looked ok. So her's was a miss too. All items and a coffee $37. Had to park on the street, lot was full. read more

Read and heard so many good things about this place but was sadly disappointed. First of all...the wait is ridiculous especially on a weekend...only thing making it better is the complimentary coffee. Speaking of which...what was ridiculous was upon being seated, the waiter asked if we wanted coffee and we said sure...then realized we were charged $4 for it when we got the bill. Seriously? Why make it free outside and charge just because I stepped through the door? Anyhow...decided to try a special...the bread pudding french toast. The yelp pictures and reviews looked good but came out a disaster on my table. Looked so soggy and was drenched in syrup. I gave up on eating the slices of bananas (which were literally coated in syrupy sugar) and could barely finish the french toast itself. I usually have a thing for sweets but my sweet tooth definitely did not vibe with this one. Two entrées and coffees came about to $30. Poor service...poor food quality...and definitely overpriced. The cinnamon roll french toast here is quite a treat - the trick? Eat just the center part. The outer layer of the roll is not very flavorful and tastes like cinnamony stale bread, but the inside - that's where the thick swirls of cinnamon and soft bread really get you. Smother it in butter and syrup, or don't - it tastes great without it. I'm not a fan of the sausage links, sad to say, so I'd skip that if you can. Thank you Bill's Cafe for giving me that little extra push to try an eggs benedict. I'm usually an "order the standard eggs/hashbrown/sideofmeat" kind of person, but I had to try a benedict here since everybody pretty much just raves about them. I tried the El Paso Benedict, it comes with corned hash and bell peppers and oh my goodness, it is delicious. I want to come back and try more. I've been here with my cousin and my parents and I've tried their food - delicious, every single dish. The line is crazy and the parking is horrendous, but if you tough it out you'll be glad you did! The food actually is that good, I'd say it lives up to its hype. read more

I've always been super impressed with the variety of pancakes they have and keep meaning to try some, but I'm sure I will someday! The only thing I'm a little wary of is the fact that they always seem to be serving Greek lemon soup as one of the specials of the day. All American Breakfast at your finest. Nothing bad to say about this place at all aside from maybe the prices are a tad high for your traditional breakfast. I considered the Bagel and Lox but that was a $22 plate! Went with some a little more sturdy and my "go to" breakfast plate...Eggs Benedict. The egg was perfectly poached and the house potatoes were perfectly seasoned. Lots of other plates at the table and everyone enjoyed their meal. Chorizo Omelette, Corn beef Hash, Hash brown Skillet, BLT Sandwich, and Grilled Cheese. Everything was delicious, but nothing stood out as amazing. The Mimosas were refreshing and probably my favorite part of the meal. The parking lot was very small with limited space for larger cars like our mini van. We ended up parking around the block. The wait was about 10 mins because we missed the brunch rush and got there around 12:30. The place is only open for breakfast and lunch and closes at 3:00. Yes the food is decent and certain things really good. However if you are not someone they are familiar with be prepared to be treated like crap. After waiting almost an hour to be seated (I get it, Sunday morning. While annoying not even a complaint) we waited another almost 15 minutes before anyone even acknowledged us, servers and bus boys walked right by us multiple times! Waiter was passable but far more concerned with other tables, specifically the ones he seemed to know. Oh well we won't be back anytime soon. Kind of hard to become a regular when you get crappy service every time you do. I'm updating my review off of service at the alameda location. We were asked to give a second shot and we did. Haven't been here in years and decided to come in for breakfast today. It seems like the quality of the food went down. Or the best location to go is in Willow Glen. THERE WERE DIRTY CUPS on our table...I saw lipstick stains on the coffee cup! I had the eggs Benedict and the hollandaise sauce was very bland, nothing special. They let me swap my hash browns for one pancake. Which their buttermilk pancakes are really good! Fluffy and moist! Their breakfast burrito is not that great. I regretted for asking my boyfriend to drive us here for an early lunch. There are much better options in Palo Alto, closer to where we live. When we arrived, there was a wait, but nothing too unbearable. I think we waited for a good ~40 minutes. Complimentary coffee was self-served outside of the restaurant, which added a nice touch to the experience. I ordered crab cakes benedict with country potatoes. The crab cakes were good; very crispy on the outside, and the filling was flavorful. I could've been fine with only eating that for brunch because the potatoes were very salty and not seasoned well. One of my favorite parts about brunch is eating breakfast potatoes, and that was not satisfied at this establishment. Very disappointed. The coffee that I ordered was stronger than the complimentary one (noted above). Service was slow, and it took me awhile to get my coffee refilled. The wait staff looked rushed and sometimes, confused. If the service were more attentive, and if we waited a more reasonable time for our food to come out, our experience would've been heightened. had a fairly large party out to breakfast today, partially in celebration of one of the children's birthday, partially for the sake of spending time together and enjoying a nice meal. i give one star solely based off of the food, which was actually pretty decent, but the food doesn't matter if your customer service is awful. everyone was rude to us and staring at us constantly EXCEPT for older hispanic guy. if you see this you were helpful and kind, thank you. everyone else was disrespectful. the first setback was when we all received our food, the original waiter didn't notify his presence for one of our guests, and tried to fit in between a small space when he shouldn't have done that, which resulted in the plate falling with food all over our guest. It was probably uncomfortable if the food was HOT, it was embarrassing for him, and the waiter gave us a dirty look as if it was OUR fault that HE dropped the food. our waiter left in the kitchen and didn't come out the rest of the time we were there. we passed it off as an accident because accidents DO happen, however the way it was handled was not okay. i work in customer service and if i were to spill something all over one of my own customers, i would not handle it like that. it is NEVER the customers fault if the item that spilled is in YOUR hand. so we moved past it and reordered his meal and began to eat. the food was pretty good, except for the fact that one of the plates we were served had black avocado. it's not that big of a deal at the end of the day but nobody wants gross avocado. when we asked someone about it he was quick to say he had no idea how the kitchen is ran when he doesn't bring food out to the customers, so a waitress stepped in and brought us new, fresher avocado. i appreciate her efforts to serve us and correct the things the original waiter messed up, however overall our service was not good. i don't appreciate being stared at or given dirty looks. we were your guests and because of today, we will not be coming back to this location ever again. i understand customer service is frustrating and there are customers who are frustrating sometimes but always try to understand their frustrations as well. you just have to do your job and do it right. complain at home. roll your eyes where the customers can't see. don't just blatantly be rude. read more

My frirend craved a morning buzz - not the caffeine type and since there are scant options in my neighborhood for alcoholic brunch beverages, we decided to choose Bill of Fare. Perhaps others had a similar hankering because this place is always packed on weekends. It took us an hour to get seated. We started off with some drinks, which were terrible. The Bloody Mary tasted mostly of cheap vodka and very diluted tomato juice, left the glass half empty. The mimosa was similarly strong but not tasty. We ordered the chilaquenas and the famous Bill of Fare bread pudding french toast that is advertised so profusely on their menu. The Chilaquenas came with a huge helping of crispy hash browns and tasted average but pretty bland. The french toast looked unappetizing like two thin slices of meatloaf or something of an equivalent gray color. It was not too sweet but it was too thin to be reminiscent of toast or especially bread pudding. The portion was pretty small, considering it was pieces of bread. My friend didn't finish her share because she's not a fan of soggy foods and it already came drenched in syrup. Great place for brunch especially when I'm too lazy to go all the way out to S.F for Mama's. I got the Californian omelette which consisted of: Avocado, mushrooms, green onions, tomato, and Garlic. Topped with swiss, jack, and cheddar cheese. It also comes with either a side of hashbrown, toast, or country potatoes. With that order, I also got one of their famous Mimosa's, a side of chicken apple sausage, and asked for extra crispy hashbrowns. Everything was extremely delicious and the portions are very generous. The chicken apple sausage was a bit disappointing (I expected more of an apple taste) and the hashbrowns could have been even crispier. However, I loved the omelette and my mimosa. Honestly, I was expecting more. This place is only opened for lunch as it's a breakfast type place. When we got here, it was super packed! There was about an hour wait and we were fine waiting for that. Seeing how it's cracking, I had hoped that it would be a lot better. There was literally 3 guys in the biggest booth in the shop (probably can seat 8 people or so) when they could've sat them in a smaller booth at a little bit longer wait. I tried the chipotle skillet (daily special) and the salmon Egg Benedict. The egg benedict tasted good and I enjoyed it. The skillet however wasn't as good. First off, it didn't come in a skillet... Second, it was lacking in flavor. Third, I was expecting potato chunks in it but got hash browns instead. I also tried the bloody mary and mimosa. I did not like the bloody mary and thought the mimosa was ok. They also forgot one of our orders and hurried to make it after we told them and it was missing ingredients and such. We know because we had ordered two of the same thing and one was missing some toppings/decorations. The service wasn't good either. Well I can't blame them entirely for this as it was really really busy for only a handful of workers. They could've at least came by every once in a while to check up and see if we needed more drinks and such. I like water. I didn't get much of it. This makes me disappointed. They only came to us 4 times. Once to seat us down. Second to take our orders and bring our drinks.Third to bring our food out. And lastly, to give us the check. There are not much great breakfast joints in the bay area...and then there's Bill's Cafe! This place has a HUGE breakfast menu and a friendly staff with great humor. Both this location and the Willow Glen location has outdoor seating available which makes breakfast/brunch all the more enjoyable the company of fresh air and California sunshine. I love the Blueberry Belgian waffle which is definitely light, fresh and fulfilling. If I'm "starvin' marvin," then I'll go for the Jalisco Scramble (Eggs scrambled with Tomatoes, Onions, Cilantro, Black Beans and Pork Carnitas topped with freshly made Salsa). After 30 mins of waiting, my parents and I finally had a table. My parents haven't had an "American" breakfast/brunch in a long time so I drove them here to try it out! We ordered the carnitas Benedict for my mom, build your own omelette ( pepper jack cheese, spinach, mushrooms, ham and sausage) sub out toast for Hawaiian pancake and I had the chorizo omelette, sub out toast for the strawberry and cereal pancake, all 3 with country potatoes! After 15-20 mins, the food came out piping hot and it was amazing!!! My parents were so happy with their meal! There was so much food that they couldn't finish it and have leftovers to take home aka brunch the following morning. My personally favorite was the Hawaiian pancake! There was bananas, macadamia but and coconut shreds, and subbing it out was only a $1 more! Definitely worth the substitute compared to toast. Parking is a hit or miss. Sometimes you find it, sometimes you don't. But they do have another lot across the street at the Italian restaurant so it isn't too bad. read more

The words "Bread pudding french toast" sounded better on the menu than it really tasted. =\ It was okay after a few bites, but having finished it I felt super gross. It was really sweet with all the syrup they put on. And I couldn't believe how dense it was. I guess I was imagining a thicker bread pudding and not a super flat thing. Who eats breakfast on a weekday just before lunchtime? I do! I thought it was a good sign for my first time to Bill's that even at this awkward pause time between breakfast and lunch on a Monday, this place was still pretty full. However, I was still seated promptly. The menu is just like I like at my breakfast places, full of lots of great options from omelets, to a full slate of benedicts, to pancakes and french toast. There's even a section that offers half size portions of menu items (not like I would ever need that) and a healthy options section as well. I went with the make-your-own omelet, and it came out just as I had hoped. I'm always wary of rattling off a long list of items to be included in my eggs, only to find weird extras inside- but that wasn't the case here. The hash browns were just right, crispy on the outside and mushy on the inside, and I loved that they had sourdough bread. My friend had one of the healthy menu option omelets with a turkey burger inside and he was happy and full afterward, even though I questioned his choice. And I can't forget the mimosa bowl with fresh strawberries! Yum! only bummer, I felt like the staff was trying to rush me out, repeatedly, even though I was clearly still eating, they kept trying to clear my plate. read more

Bill's is an SJ tradition and a great place to get a delicious breakfast or lunch. This seems to be a less busy Bill's. I prefer the one off the Alameda but this one is good. It's definitely less busy than Willow Glen. Besides the wait, the biggest issue might be the parking lot. It's a small lot and fills up quickly on weekends. I think that you can park across the street at Zanotto's. I was at this Bill's getting breakfast before a dentist appointment. It was a weekday so it wasn't packed but still busy. I got the Mexicali Benedict. It was really good but a little cold. It's an english muffin with pulled pork, poached egg, avocado with salsa. It's really delicious. I also find that the house potatoes can be hit or miss depending on who is cooking them. I love Bill's and it's definitely one of the best breakfast joints in SJ. read more

Mmmmm breakfast! It was actually closer to 2PM so I guess it was more like a late lunch. Seems like later in the afternoon the crowd disperses. I have been to this location earlier and it was wall to wall people. I've had the Eggs Benedict twice and I love them. I've had their hash browns and also a serving of Grits. Service both times was speedy. I wish I went here more often then I'd shoot for a variety of other breakfast materials. My ongoing love for breakfast foods is easily met by your iHop's or Denny's but Bill's really is a treat above and beyond. Also, they serve booze :) read more

My go-to order always includes one of the egg benedicts (JUST CAN'T GO WRONG) and a side order of biscuits and gravy (it comes out pippin hot and the gravy is perfectly seasoned)! I wanted to feel like I am "band-wagoner", but I can't agree with majority - this place sums up to 3 stars. I want a breakfast place that brings me back to The Country Inn I grew up on off North Capitol Ave. in San Jose; the fresh hash browns some what stood out, but that is about it. (yeah, some folks say its bland b/c you have to add your salt and pepper to your entree, but me personally I prefer to do that by controlling my own portion of S&P then have 2000grams of sodium served to me like Denny's or some other breakfast dive that doesn't serve fresh food.) With that said, I prefer the Bascom Ave location, as I have been to Willow Glen location; I say this b/c I have children and the wait was only about 20 mins at Bascom (at 10am) - plus its more family friendly. The Steak and Eggs was one of the best Steak and Eggs in the area. It was much better than The Country Way (Fremont) which I had the week prior. [I'm a food adventurer] I also had a few bites of my son's Chocolate Chip pancakes - have craved one every morning since. Sooooooo wonderful and chocolaty!!! The service was good but not GREAT. He seemed rush - which I am not going to knock him for b/c it was a Sunday morning; however, its Bill's so someone (a server) should be able to master customer service and a constant rush if employed there. Just sayin.....(this is why I miss Country Inn by my house - the servers made you feel like you were at home.) The Country Way in Fremont meets this, but its a 25 minute drive from me All in all - a great place to eat breakfast at if in the area, but waiting for one that is irresistible and leaves me craving for more. Simply amazing. Enjoyed every flavorful bite. Had a crab cake benedict and a portobello benedict, both superb. The hashbrowns were tender and moist with a slight crispiness. Washed it all down with a refreshing fresh-squeezed orange juice. And what the hell, I had pancakes too, why lie lol. Best pancakes I've eaten by far. We over ate, but it was worth it. Bills cafe doesn't deliver the same quality i was used to. I ordered breakfast for pickup, the sausages and eggs weren't cooked all the way. Love coming here early Saturday or Sunday morning. Usually really busy at that time, but definitely worth the wait. I've never really had a craving for eggs Benedict until I ate here. Usually order the Crab Cake Benedict or El Paso Benedict. Add a little Tabasco, and I'm in heaven. The hash browns are average, as well as the pancakes, but that doesn't bother me. As for the service, usually spot on. Good with refilling coffee, good with coming over and checking on us. I guess you can say your typical morning breakfast spot. Went in for a sandwich at 1:30 but when I saw those awesome breakfasts, I had to have one. Great omelet and the best hash browns I have had in a long, long time. Very tasty and fairly priced given the portion. The service was good but I'm deducting a star because I was with someone who eats a little bit on the slow side and we felt rushed with them coming by every few minutes to try to take the plate away. Great breakfast/brunch place! I've been to this location several times, as well as their other locations. Service is great and the food is worth the 30-45 minute wait. While you wait, they offer coffee you can enjoy. Once seated, I always get their fresh squeezed orange juice and more coffee. YUM! I've tried a variety of their brunch items and have never been disappointed. Their portions are large, so I usually end up taking half of it home for later. This place is the business. Every time I go I try something new and I've never been disappointed. The mimosas are delicious and refreshing. Recently I tried the "El Paso Benedict" It is an extra savory breakfast treat. Also worth a mention is the Greek Lemon Soup. Very fast service once seated. My favorite place to go to for breakfast/brunch. Also, my favorite place for egg benedicts! I am the biggest Salmon lover in the world. So the dish I normally get would be the Smoked Salmon Benedict, with a side of fresh fruits. To top it off getting my morning buzz on with a Bill's famous Mimosa to start my morning off right.
