Love this place! They have a great selection of healthy options, and provide coffee while you wait! The menu is extensive, but the cooks keep the consistency of quality through each dish. The portions are also huge so you can save your left overs for lunch. Minus one star for only having a one room bathroom. Another oldie but goodie brunch spot. Reasons why it's a favorite? 1) They serve alcohol. (mimosa, michelada, bloody mary, oh my!) 2) They offer half portions every day for omelettes and bendictions. (ignore what the menu states) 3) Their prices are reasonable. 4) There's outdoor patio/sidewalk seating to watch the cars go by. 5) There are 5 locations throughout San Jose. We came by around 2 on Sunday, and it was still busy. We had some of their coffee out on the patio, waiting less than 10 minutes. The hostess was so sweet. She came out and informed us that a table had opened up inside, then asked if we'd like that table instead of waiting for an outside table. With a half order, I can get a perfect mini-amount of California Benedict with a gooey poached egg and crisp bacon. More room for my fishbowl mimosa! I love how they halve each strip of bacon so that the ends don't stick out past the muffin edges. Get the hash browns, but be prepared to season them yourself. Or you could drown them in ketchup. Reasons it's not perfect: 1) The seasoned country potatoes are medicore. 2) Service for patrons seated outside is generally not as attentive as it is for indoors. 3) Parking is messy when it's peak brunch hours. This is the 2nd Bill's location I've been too. It's just as tasty as the original location. I don't enjoy this location as much just because I feel as though the original Bill's location is more lively. I usually hear people singing a lot at the other location. The vibe here is just to get you in and get you out, which is fine too. My boyfriend and I ordered off of the "Healthy Breakfast Choices" section of the menu. My boyfriend ordered the Fitness Group Omelette which contains an egg white omelette filled with turkey burger, tomatoes, mushrooms, avacados, and cheddar cheese. I ordered the Protein Scramble which are egg whites scrambled with chicken apple sausage, mushrooms, asparagus, spinach, onions and garlic. Both of our selections came with fresh fruit and toast. We both enjoyed our selections a lot. Our total came out to a little over $20 before tip. We both took about half of our large meal home. I definitely think you get your money's worth here. The service is fast, the prices are fair, and the portions are generous. The downsides are the wait as well as the noise level here. The wait isn't bad considering how many people are waiting. Bill's, I heart you so. The future Mrs. and I usually try to have breakfast here every Saturday or every other Saturday. Initially, we went to the one in Willow Glen, but parking was pretty rough. So we decided to give the one off of Bascom a shot. Parking was much more convenient (across the street) and there isn't any drop off in food quality. On to the food review. I have 2 go to orders: The Almond Joy Pancakes and Banana Bread French Toast.The pancakes are very tasty. A combination of almonds and chocolate chips make my tummy happy. It kind of reminds me when I ordered pancakes in Maui. Plus they're just really tasty. Same thing with the Bread Pudding French Toast. It is unlike anything I've ever had. Since it's a combination of Banana Bread Pudding and French Toast, I thought it would be a win-win. In this rare occasion, I was actually right. It might be sweet to some palates, but for me it was perfect. My better half orders the standard Eggs and Country Potatoes. That's also a safe and consistent dish as well. YUMMO! I just got home from Bill's Cafe and had a great experience. We got there at 11:30am on a Sunday. Prime time for waiting over 20 mins for a table. We got in and as we were about to put our name down, the waitress suggested that we can eat outside for no wait. It was first come first serve. We were seating in less than 2 minutes. Once seated we were served fresh coffee and water. I ordered the short stack and my date ordered the french toast cinnamon roll. The pancakes were GREAT. They were fluffy soft yet not mushy. I love eggs benedict, and Bill's Cafe has an awesome benedict selection! I've only been here a handful of times, and all of the times I've been here I've ended up with some sort of eggs benedict. There's just something incredibly alluring and delicious about their benedicts. The hollandaise sauce tastes just right -- rich, and not too lemony (I don't like hollandaises that are too citrus-y). The eggs are always perfectly poached, with yolks that just ooze out yolky goodness with just a jab of a fork. Service is a little hit or miss depending on how busy they are, though generally everybody's very friendly. Plus, when there's a wait for a seat there's usually some coffee out in front! An added bonus for caffeine addicts like myself. Parking can be a little scarce since the lot is pretty small, but you can park across the street at Zannotto's. From what I understand, Bill's has some sort of parking lot share deal with Zannotto's so don't feel guilty if you park there. All in all, this is a great brunch spot. This is the only Bills I go to, but I eat here at least 3 times a week, and sometimes everyday. The food is always good, and comes out fast. The staff is also very friendly and service oriented and everything is always clean. Try their bloody marys or mimosas in the bowl served with strawberries. Those guys were thick and fluffy, almost looked burnt. Coffee refills happened often. Staff was great. Takes card. Finally! I get to see what the hype is all about. I came here on Saturday morning and had to wait about half an hour for a table. They had complimentary coffee outside for everybody that was waiting for a table. I had the smoke salmon benedict and she had the chorizo omelette. The chorizo omelette was like an omelette with chorizo! The chorizo itself had pretty good flavor and overall it was good. The smoked salmon benedict was really good. The salmon, hollandaise sauce, onions, and egg worked perfectly together. The salmon is very subtle so it was more like a nice addition to everything rather than being the attention whore in the meal. And of course you cant have breakfast without a mimosa! Service was really friendly and attentive. Our waiter was constantly checking up on us and the bus boys would always be walking around the restaurant making sure your table doesn't overflow with empty dishes. I rate restaurants on a weighted, 100-point scale based service, food, cost, and ambiance. Bill's Cafe received a 67. ***I have eaten at both Bill's Cafe's in San Jose. This review is for the one on Bascom, but I find both restaurants comparable*** It's hard to rate a restaurant on ambiance when you eat on the patio, on a 70 degree January day. What was nice was getting that patio table in less than ten minutes on a busy, crowded Saturday morning. Service otherwise was pleasant and mostly attentive (with a small wait on getting our check.) I ordered a California Benedict. I admit to being a bit of a bit of a benedict snob. This particular hollandaise (the thing that can make or break the dish) was yummy, but not extraordinary. I am THOROUGHLY disappointed. With the high reviews this place has been getting, I expected really good food but was surprised with mediocre, dry, bland, and tasteless mush. I rated Bill's Cafe on a 10 point rating and subtracted -1 point for each issue and then divided the final score by 2. I ordered the Crab Cakes Benedict with Fresh Fruit and Fresh Squeezed Orange Juice while my sister ordered the Poached Y Papas Benedict with Hash Brown with a short order of Buttermilk Pancakes. Issues: (1-2) horrible customer service: no greetings, no introductions to our waiter, no recommendations, no asking us if we've ever been there, no checking up on us (i literally had to wave down a waiter just to get my check). disorganized servers: i feel like servers were all over the place yet no one was assigned to a certain table and one was assigned to almost all of them (3) very dirty restaurant: table was sticky, chair was sticky, floor was littered with food pieces (4) dirty utensils: i had food still stuck on my utensils from previous customers, it ruined my appetite to begin with (5) mushy crab cakes: more breading than crab, i've never seen a crab cake that has been breaded entirely through. I could swear that they mixed imitation crab into the mixture. It was thoroughly disgusting. I ordered it off of yelpers' recommendations but those yelpers probably have never had a real crab cake because even Costco's frozen crab cakes that you reheat were better than that. (6) mushy hash brown; the hash brown was burnt on the outside and completely mushy on the inside. enough said. (7) dry dry dry chewy pancakes; how can a place screw up pancakes so bad? pancakes from a box are less dry than these pancakes. (8) hollandaise sauce; too thick and completely flavorless, i've had hollandaise sauce before and this was by far the worse i've ever had, it needed more flavor or depth to it Upside: (1) Fresh: fresh squeezed orange juice and fresh fruit (2) Potato skins in the poached y papas were decent So if you kept track that was 10 - 8 + 2 = 4 / 2 = 2 Therefore I can only give this place 2 stars and I don't think I will ever be returning. Waited 30 minutes to get in, but the crab cake eggs Benedict made it all worthwhile! The crab cake was crunchy and flavourful, the egg yolk was nice and runny, and the hollandaise sauce was not overwhelming in quantity or richness. I really enjoyed this place and would recommend it! read more

Went here for Easter brunch with some of my old friends from college. Since one of my buddies was dog-sitting, the main reason we went here was that we heard they were dog-friendly. I was pleased to confirm that they definitely are. We got a nice outdoor table, and the servers didn't bat an eye when the dog moved under and around our table. They even gave the dog a little water bowl which I thought really went above and beyond what most restaurants would do. I can see why pet-owners like this place. On to the food...they had a dizzying array of omelets, scrambles, eggs benedict, and other breakfasty food. If you want breakfast this is definitely the place to go. I ordered the California benedict and it was extremely rich (as most eggs benedict are), but very yummy. I was craving a savory egg dish and it definitely hit the spot. Hubby ordered some eggs and a short stack of pancakes...I gotta say that was the biggest short stack I've seen! It only came with 2 pancakes but they were ginormous, at least twice the size of the ones I make at home. We also each got mimosas, which looked great but tasted a bit disappointing to me since they just tasted like orange juice, I couldn't really taste the champagne at all. At least the food was good. Prices were very reasonable as well. I would go back for the food and the good value...though I'll skip the mimosa next time and go straight for the champagne. :-) read more

Having grown up in the area with un-adventurous Asian parents, the only breakfast places I knew of were Asian places and Dennys. Now that I'm older and more sophisticated about where I eat my brunch, I can now find my own places to eat and explore. Bill's is certainly one gem I started going to while visiting home. I first came here to eat when meeting up with some HS friends for brunch. It's definitely not one of those places that will wow you with its decor or location but at least it is easy to find parking along a side street and despite the daunting wait line, never seems to take more than half an hour wait to get in. I've been here 3 times now and I must definitely recommend the Hashbrown Skillet, Bread Pudding French Toast, Smoked Salmon Benedict and Hawaiian Pancakes. I've also tried the Meat Lover's Omelette and Cookies and Cream Pancakes. Those two items were just okay but the other ones were absolutely amazing! The Hashbrown Skillet is a great dish that combines potatoes, cheese, bacon, and tomatoes in a great salty yet fresh combination that is topped off with an egg (I get over-easy to get that rich yolk on top). The Bread Pudding French Toast is decadent and had a souffle-like quality (similar to Coast Toast at Brockton Villa in SD). The Smoked Salmon Benedict was quite interesting because of the bagel. The Hawaiian Pancakes had great sweetness from the banana and had a perfect amount of macadamia nuts so you don't get tired of them. There's just so much variety on the menu when it comes to breakfast that make it hard to choose! read more

I was in San Jose looking for breakfast and saw this had 4 Stars on Yelp. It's a popular local spot, which is always a good sign, with a menu you'd more or less expect. The service wasn't particularly fast or friendly and my Hawaiian pancakes (banana, coconut, macadamia nuts) weren't as stellar as the menu description would have me believe. At no time during my breakfast did I feel like I was actually in Hawaii, which was a bummer because I wore the Hawaiian shirt for nothing. In fact, the only thing good about the pancakes were the bananas because the coconut was hard and flavorless and the nuts were way too big. In a rare diner move, I only ate one of the three. I'd go back to Bill's, but I'd for sure try something else and not wear my Hawaiian shirt. read more

I have never been disappointed here!! It is crazy busy for brunch on the weekends, but I came during the week once and it was still busy, but I didn't have to wait. The Bloody Mary's & Mimosa's are what keep me coming back. The fam wanted to get together for breakfast, so we ended up here. There was 8 of us and initially she said the wait was 35-45 minutes, not terrible. Particularly given that there were about 30 people waiting in the parking lot. However, about 30 minutes she said we'd have to wait an additional 40 minutes if we wanted a table together. Clearly they're quite skilled at estimating wait times. We ended up squeezing into a corner booth. The menu looked great, but the food was so-so. I ordered the Petaluma Scramble which was rather bland. The salsa added some spice, but there was little flavor otherwise. I like my hashbrowns crispy, but these were more like mashed potatoes. I also tried some of the Cinnamon Roll French Toast which was good, but kind of whatevs. The roll wasn't warmed enough in the center and tasted a bit stale. I wanted to like this place. I love brunch! But it wasn't great, and definitely not worth the wait. read more

I've been to the other location, and wasn't wowed. But..... Due to a miscommuncation on one day, and a planned lunch on another, I ended up here twice in a week. I had an unimpressive breakfast at the other location, so I decided to try lunch on both days I was here. I found the turkey burger tasty,and moist. I liked it so much, I had it both days I was here. I also enjoyed their lemon soup.I've had better,but theirs was still pretty good. I didn't like their fries, and opted not to order them on my second visit. On the first day I was there, my friend had a breakfast dish that she didn't like. So, I'm further convinced that it may be safer to stay with their lunch dishes. On my second lunch, (with one of my favorite girls) we took awhile to order, and hung around a bit after we finished eating, and the servers were very nice about it. It's nothing fancy, just simple, standard breakfast and lunch food. It's done well, and the service is good. Lou's will always be my favorite of these kinds of places, but I will definitely return to Bill's. read more

I love this place. everything that I order here has been good! No complains!! My last experience was by far the best. I called in my lunch order and didnt realize that i called the wrong Bill's. The manager was so helpful and understanding. He made my order right away and called the other Bill's cafe for me and canceled the order for me. I was amazed by the customer service!! It's very hard to find great service now. And for being a phone order they were great!! I usually come for lunch and order a grilled cheese sandwich with bacon a side of fruit and there Greek lemon chicken soup that is to die for!! For bfast I always get the protein bfast which is scrambled egg whites, apple chicken sausage, asparagus and additional veggies. They have a full bar which is even funner for a Sunday brunch! Mimosas are really good here!! It can get crowded here and waits can be really long but with the bar and drinks its helps the wait go by faster. Def dont go when you're starving!! read more

Like many in the San Jose area can attest to....Bills is THE go to place for a delicious breakfast, brunch or lunch. Because of that their is usually a wait...but don't let this dissuade you...it is worth it! They even serve you coffee while you wait outside so it is not too tortuous. I am a salad or omelet gal most of the time. But the eggs Benedict are also heavenly! You also cannot go wrong with one of their burgers. What makes their food so good you ask? I think they must use very fresh and high quality recipe ingredients. No matter what I eat here I do not feel like I have eaten at a greasy spoon....it tastes wholesome fresh and healthy. Now I get it! Here's my update and this time all worth the 30 minute wait... Another busy Sunday morning with people lining up on the sidewalk as usual. My table was on the patio and if you ask me you don't want to be sitting inside. With the owner helping the waiters and chatting with locals, staff is attentionate friendly and keep the coffee warm for you. Given the place is really busy the service is fairly fast once you're seated. Not a huge fan of heavy, American brunch/diner style food, but this place was good for what it was. You're crazy if you can finish a whole plate because food coma will attack you, (which is why I didn't review this place after I tried this place for the first time.) But one plate can definitely feed 2 or allow you to take the other half home. The portobello mushroom benedict was all right. But their Blackstone Eggs Benedict was bomb. A bit of a crisp (without the burnt taste) to the grilled red onions, fresh tomatoes and avocado all meshed perfectly with the perfectly toasted english muffin and perfectly poached eggs. Super creamy and beautiful. Comes with toast. Awesome hash browns- a bit oily, but perfect amount of crispiness on the outside. Super impressive. Reasonable prices with good food and HUGE portions (too big for me, but may be a better value for others). A lot of options to choose from, but nothing too overwhelming. I've been twice. The wait staff is appropriately attentive. My glass never gets fully empty (unless I don't want a refill). The food is prompt, hot, and tasty. Today, I had the gyro with fries and clam chowder. It was perfect. I love the meat, so tender. The bread wrap was warm and soft and held in the tomato and tzatziki perfectly. And that tzatziki was perfectly tart and seasoned. There was the perfect amount of french fries, not too many. They tasted like they were double fried to get them soft in the center and crispy on the outside. And the clam chowder was nice and clammy. Not thick like a stew, though. My friend had the chicken salad sandwich on toasted wheat. She loved the fact that it had savory and sweet in the chicken salad along with nuts for a great flavor. Ok, so if you come here on a Saturday or Sunday be prepared for a wait, that is a given. But the wait is long because the food and drinks are THAT GOOD! This is the place you want to go to when you are hungover, when you are looking for good breakfast, when you are done with a workout, when you are done with church... whatever the reason, you want to come eat here. The staff is always super friendly and the food is ALWAYS fantastic. They have a bar so you can get your brunch on in true fashion. The parking is limited but they do have spots in the Zanottos lot. Bill's is always where it's at. For some reason, i wasn't feeling the Benny's (which I always love) and i went with the buckwheat pancakes. I typically walk out of Bill's with my cholesterol as high as an individual inside a hotboxed car. I cannot stop eating when I'm here and the serving size is meant for someone who has been through a famine for a decade beforehand. I went a different route this time and felt like it was a great way of starting my day without feeling like i have to take a nap afterwards. The pancakes were so soft and went perfectly with the syrup. My sister got the bread pudding pancakes with the carmelized bananas and everything. I'm still not a fan but my sister loves them! So come early Parking is pretty tight, plus the flood of people waiting in the middle of the parking lot, so back out carefully They have free coffee outside which is a plus. I love a good Bills's experience. I've been to a lot of the locations, and everything has been fine. my mom and I went to this location because it was close to her Dr.'s apt. I was slightly more run down than most of the other locations, which is fine, I don't particularly care about that. The host was super nice, he noticed that I was wheeling my mom in a wheelchair, and he opened the door us before I even had to ask AND had our table already set us for us. That was super nice and thoughtful!! Our waitress wasn't anything to call home about. She seems preoccupied and didn't listen to our order and gave us the wrong thing. My mother is a very picky eater, but shes easy, if that makes sense. My mother and I both had a bowl of the greek lemon soup (which is ALWAYS amazing, as it was here too) and we shared a sandwich; turkey patty with swiss cheese and avocado. Super simple, right? She brings out something else entirely, and asks, "Did you still want me to have them put swiss cheese on it and get you a side of avocado?" ...uhhh, yeah. since this isn't even close to our order. She did and (this part is not her fault at all) it tasted like shit. The patty was dry and the bread was toasted too much and hard to chew. I ate it because I didn't really give a shit, I didn't really like it though. My mom just decided to decorate the table with hers... -___- (take that Bills!) Also, don't order a side of asparagus... whatever you do, don't order it. I love this place! It's a really delicious, fun and young take on the Sunday brunch that usually puts me to sleep. The place is crazy busy, but we were actually seated a lot quicker than I thought we would be. We had mimosas while we waited - they're wonderful and huge and have sliced strawberries on top, yum - then got to check out all the great possibilities on the menu. Service was really good - you will never be coffee-less. There were birthday and graduation parties there, and the manager comes out with a nacho libre mask and pours the grad/birthday boy a shot of tequila - awesome, right?!?!?
