First off, we've been coming here for years, and the food, and service is normally very good, this trip however, it's been abysmal. Both times we had dinner here this week, the food came out lukewarm at best. At breakfast the other morning, we had to wait twenty minutes for a table, yet there were only 3-4 tables full in the whole place. The hostess said were short staffed--holiday weekend, the day before 4th of July?! Big screw up by management. Once we did get sat, the table next to us of two women, informed us they waited forty five minutes for their food!! We asked our waitress about the long wait for eggs, and she said it took that long to make it really good. Needless to say, we decided not to order, and went someplace else that didn't need forty five minutes to cook an egg. Beautiful location, but overpriced mediocre food, and service is the standard here now, which is sad. We won't be coming back for awhile. read more

Went here for Thanksgiving (stayed at the resort) and made reservations for the $45 meal, which consisted of prime rib, Cornish game hen or vegetarian ravioli. Big mistake, I had the Cornish hen which was dry and wife had the prime rib which was over cooked and difficult to cut. When the waiter (Josh) first came out and didn't know what was on the menu it should have been a red flag. I complained to the waiter about the prime rib even showing him how tough it was. No expression and he didn't have anything to say. The deserts that came with this nightmare was store bought pies. For the price we paid over $130 with two beers and an ice tea, we were extremely disappointed. The other sad part of it no one was in the restaurant and one couple left after seeing the menu. A word to the wise only eat at the restaurant for breakfast or lunch, the dinner menu will disappoint. read more

Decided to come here on the last night of our vacation, sadly I had ignored the reviews warning of this restaurant. It was a Saturday night around 6, the restaurant was predominately empty but there were still patrons around. The two main issues I have are in regards to the service and to a lesser extent, the pricing. From the start our waitress seemed to be more interested in her one other table. Only because we were sitting adjacent to them did I come to hear that while standing and socializing with said table, it came to light they lived near each other. From this point on the only thing that appeared to matter to this waitress was that table (only 2 people there so it's not like it was a massive party). She did take our order and warned us they were out of 3 dishes (how you run out on a Saturday night I'm not sure since some advance planning seems to be the smart route). Anyways, the food itself (we ordered an app to share, soup and an entree each) was delicious, albeit small portions for the price you're paying. If I was back in LA indeed be more understanding but the smaller size portions with larger price tag has not been the MO I've experienced in this area. Drinks remained mostly empty, usually the other staff refilling them and when they weren't filled the only time the waitress filled them she remarked, "I'm sorry, my bussers just aren't on it tonight." In reality it wasn't her bussers, it was her. She continued to ignore us throughout our meal but made sure to stop at almost every other table and make small talk. I wish I had better things to say about this restaurant but at the end of the day, the service and pricing ultimately left a bitter taste in my mouth. Less than a half a mile west there's a restaurant with delicious food, attentive wait staff and pricing that reflects their food. Save yourself the hassle and irritation and go elsewhere. read more

We stayed at the hotel and ate at Bin 189 for dinner and breakfast. Both were spectacular. The standout was the bitter chocolate cake with mint ice cream. It may not sound like much, but it's definitely a qualifier for the top 100 desserts to try before you die. The au gratin soup was also unusual and delicious. Everything is very fresh and well prepared. My only complaint is that the pricing, even for this caliber of restaurant, is a bit overboard. Other than that, its definitely worth it, esp for a special dinner. read more

Stayed at the hotel for several days last week, and ate here a couple of times. Every time, service and food was great. Not sure why some folks had such bad experiences. I think people need to have reasonable expectations, it's Lake Arrowhead! This is by far the best place to eat on the lake, period. read more

My husband and I had dinner for the first time in a few years and still love the look and ambiance of the place. The Resort is beautiful and worth a trip up the mountains. As far as the restaurant goes, stick with breakfast. For dinner, service was good, everyone was friendly but the food failed to live up to its' price point. We had calamari as an appetizer and it was a thumbs up. Great spicy dip included. The wine choices are also great and if you order a flight it comes served in this groovy metal sculpture. Salads were ok - my baby greens were a little overdressed but palatable. Dinner entrees were Halibut - which was way overcooked, but came with a delicious risotto. The hubby had scallops which were lumped in with a brussell sprouts and assorted other veggie cheesy side so the scallops ended up veggie cheesy. They should have served it on a plate instead of in a bowl so the flavors could stay in their place. The bread was great and $125 later, we passed on dessert. We will go back but maybe just to hang in the bar and drink! read more

I'm a glutton for punishment. Half a decade ago this was a nice place - Now, it's hands down consistently the worst restaurant on the mountain. Horrible food made by people who've given up - much like the management and wait staff. I go back once every two to three months to see if it's improved and every time I'm shocked to find it has only gotten worse. When I eat at an upscale restaurant where entrees hover at $30-$40, I expect quality food, attention to detail and good service. The staff here is very nice. Unfortunately, they are not properly trained to provide high end service. We waited at the podium that said "wait to be seated" for a while before we decided to just walk up to the bar and seat ourselves there. I checked for a hostess a few times throughout our visit but there was never anyone there. The bar top is copper. Looks nice but stinks, especially if you rest your arms or hands on it. I decided to wash my hands. Went to the bathroom to do so, only to find that there was no soap at all. Gross. Who's doing the health inspection here? I wanted a glass of wine and noticed that the same wine was listed twice on the menu (as part of a flight and also on the by the glass section). It was listed with different countries of origin. At this point, I knew we couldn't expect much and I decided to sample the wines before deciding. Both were terrible so I settled on a split of Cava. It was not good either so I let my $10 drink go to waste after 2 sips. My husband ordered a burger. When I saw it, I realized it's not easy to get fresh food in the mountains so whatever we order is being trucked in from a food service. Needless to say, it was edible but not worth the price. I ordered a simple salad because I really needed veggies. The greens were about to turn but I was too hungry to send it back. I did however, set aside all the brown radicchio and advised the woman behind the bar that the pantry cook needs to be made aware that serving produce like this is unacceptable. She said she would talk to the kitchen. When she returned, she said that the kitchen would go through all the produce. I thanked her but wondered where the quality control was. Why would you put dry, brown lettuce (about 6 ounces) on a $12 salad (no protein)? Sitting at the bar allows you to interact with your bartender and watch the staff work. Yikes! I don't think the bartender even knows what mis en place is. The manager (I think) was polishing wet wine glasses with a polyester napkin and handling all the glasses by the bowl leaving them still dripping wet and full of finger prints. What? At the end of the day, the restaurant has a pretty atmosphere and nice people working in it. It also has an amateur wine list and menu, and a need for a trained professional GM to train the staff, enforce health code and redesign the menus. read more

WONDERFUL EXPERIENCE AT BIN 189 Was our first time in lake arrowhead and wanted to have a nice dinner . Prior to arriving I did some research on all the restaurants and places to stay . Needless to say ...the reviews I read where not that great . Was so bummed because it had the great wine list ambiance and lake view we were looking for .. So we decided to take a chance ... The hotel was beautiful .. They allowed us to check into our lake view room earlier than we expected the room was beautiful and felt super cozy..so far so good.. The bar at bin was welcoming it had a huge fireplace and felt exactly how you would want to feel in the mountains warm and well taken care of. Jeff our bartender was fantastic ... Super knowledgable of not only the drinks but of the menu. What I noticed the most about Jeff was his authentic welcoming attitude he expressed not only with us but to everyone .. Often taking a moment with other couples around the fire and constantly being aware of his surroundings ... valerie our server just continued the smooth transition from the bar to our quiet romantic table she was very flawless in her service and incredible accommodating to dietary needs . Having to ask the chef a few times if there was garlic or onion in a few dishes I was interested in . And of course there was . But the chef ended up changing my meal to accommodate my needs the New York steak was perfection . He paired it with fingering potatoes and Jillian veggies ...fabulous My wife had the angel hair pasta with a light tomatoes sauce with parm cheese ..so simple yet so filled with flavor . Not ashamed to say that we took the leftovers to our room cause we didn't want any of it to go to waist ... At the end of our meal the chef found out we were celebrating our wedding night ..so of course he treated us to a beautiful desert .. What I learned ... Make your own opinions we had the most wonderful dinner and will always go back to this hotel ,bar, and restaurant .. And to the people who didn't have this kind of experience please please please go back I think they have changed things .. read more

I was very concerned about the food due to the yelp reviews. We ordered room service which is from this restaurant. It came within the 30 minutes promised. Warm Burger was outstanding with an grilled flavor and waffle fries were warm and fresh. Lettuce wedge was cold and crisp with good blue cheese dressing. Wings were ok with crisp cold celery/carrots. I understand that they have new food management so I think they should be given another chance. Food was not amazing but it was very satisfying and a pleasant surprise We ate in the restaurant the following evening. Dining room is nicely appointed with good lake views. Service was fast and friendly. Got the French onion soup with excellent broth but the smoked Gouda cheese was just thrown in there and not melted at all. The ceviche was fresh but way too acidic and not very edible. Overall I would not come back to this restaurant as it was mediocre and very pricy (which is why I gave it a lower rating). Locals do not recommend it. What a shame as the facility is so nice read more

Food is mediocre. Short rib was nothing but pot roast. Service was even worse than the service. We had to wait 15 minutes for our table because hostess could not walk from her station to the bar area to call us even when we told them where we were waiting. Told us it was our fault for not sitting in the correct waiting area! Only bright spot in the service was Amy who delivered the food and brought extra plate for us. Even had to ask for silverware and napkins! Best part was having to eat with a dog at the next table. I thought dogs were not supposed to be in food establishments. This is a sad review for a restaurant in a major higher end resort. Need to get your act together read more

On a weekend getaway we were staying at the lake arrowhead resort and spa and decided to go to dinner inside the hotel. The restaurant looked pretty hip and modern compared to other options within the area. While the service is friendly they lack the upscale service that the places oozes. We ordered a bottle of wine and they never refilled our empty glasses - we had to pour our own. The food was also hit or miss. My husband got to pork chop which was cooked perfectly and was quite tasty. I decided on the filet after being told the short rib has been described as "tough". It wasn't a bad filet, it was actually cooked perfectly but it had no flavor if it wasn't for the Cabernet reduction. I also ordered the polenta which was quite "gritty" and not very smooth like most polenta I eat. For dessert we opted for the sorbet - a great option. The restaurant was also really loud - live music and lots of people plus bad acoustics makes it very difficult to hear the person sitting next to you. Overall if I were to come back to the area I would probably eat here again only because the options are few and far between but overall I was disappointed. read more

Our hopes for good food were dumped in the bin at Bin 189. The food is made without love or passion and served cold. I blame management on this. The bartenders do not know how to make drinks. We stopped at the bar first and watched as they dropped mixers, over poured and then dumped beer, and sprayed customers while shaking drinks. I ordered a gin martini which was shaken vigorously in a mixer full of ice and then dumped in a glass. No vermouth. The final insult: it was a garnished with a tiny olive that was as hard as a rock. I don't ever mind paying for good food. This was sub par. Too bad. Such potential. read more

The food was delicious, albeit with a smaller menu than most restaurants, but this is understandable as most restaurants in smaller hotels (as far as I've found), have smaller menus than a stand-alone restaurant. read more

First, location is beautiful! View of trees and lake from patio is great. We're here for 4 nights/5 days, day 2 and we're looking for somewhere else to eat because the service is pretty awful. There seems to be enough employees here, unfortunately, they meander about aimlessly. Be prepared to wait at least 50 minutes for your order. Some of the food is good; fish n chips, chicken wrap, veggie rolls. Chicken pot pie would have been pretty good if it wasn't loaded w/salt. Hostess did apologize to us for her staff being difficult, apparently they have been uncooperative w/her. This morning we tried to order breakfast but kept waiting for a bus boy to clean a table outside, finally decided we'll just eat buffet and sit inside. I really only wanted oatmeal, but paying the $19 each just to get us in and out seemed worth it. Also, No blended drinks at the bar seemed unusual to me for a vacation resort. I can only assume this restaurant has a management problem. Perhaps a new manager can motivate this staff or fire the dead weight. read more

Took my husband there for his 50th birthday dinner. I made a point of telling the hostess and waiter that it was his special day. Fine. Here is what we ate. Spinach/artichoke dip was very good. Potato skins also very good. Main dinner: My husband ordered the Flank Steak, medium. It came very well done, almost burnt. I tasted it and it was bad. Mashed potatoes and veggies that came with it were avg, I ordered the Lobster Primavera on angel hair. So Bland!! I tried to spice it up with pepper and the extra parm I asked for to no avail. Its not hard to liven up pasta so it just seemed like they didn't care. Then our waiter, came over with my hubbys b-day dessert. Scoop on ice cream on a small brownie. No candle, no "happy birthday", nothing. Ok, so I do a little birthday song and we dig in. It was very tasty however small. Then the bill came....he charged us $7 for the birthday dessert which pissed me off. We were staying at the hotel and spent plenty of money while there. Our waiter knew this and still charged us. I used to be a server and I know how this works. Totally lame! I am a very good tipper but instead decided to send a message to our server by leaving a small tip with a note on charging us $7 for a scoop of ice cream. When we checked out the next day, the bill had been adjusted and the $7 was credited back. Its the small things that can make or break your experience. They did the bare minimum and could care less about making their customers feel special. I won"t be going back. read more

This restaurant relies upon the fact that it is the only major resort in this community and that it has a beautiful surrounding such that it does not need to provide service or quality food to their customer. We were initially seated in a table immediately adjacent to a large group. The noise level from this group was so loud that it became so annoying and unbearable. We requested to move to another table away from this large group. The rest of the dinning room was somewhat empty at the time and it should not have been a problem However, it was quite obvious that the waiter was quite annoyed by this request. The hostess did agree to move our party but decided to place us in another table of the room close to kitchen entry. The waiter was not happy having to reset another table and was throwing things around while setting up the new table. It took awhile after the new table was set before we were asked to move. No one come to help us move our partially consumed coffee. (BTW, the coffee was lukewarm and dilute). We were served the soups after 30 min of ordering. The corn and shrimp soup was so salty that it cannot be swallowed. We waited nearly 1.5 hour without being serve our entrees and without anyone come to check if we needed anything.. We never saw our waiter come by while we saw new customers who arrived much later being waited upon. We walked up to the hostess and asked to speak with the manager and was assured that manager will come immediately to speak with us. We waited another 10 minutes at our table for the manager (? Richard), however, he never showed. We decided to walk out of the restaurant and asked the hostess to speak with the manager. The hostess went back to the office and came back and said the manager will be right with us. We waited another 5 minutes and the manager still did not show. At which time, our waiter finally noticed that we were walking out and asked it there was a problem (having ignoring us for nearly 1 hour). We told him our issues and ask if could pay what we have consumed (several cups of coffee and 3 soups, one of which was inedible). He told us we did not owe anything. This was absolutely one of worst dinning experience we have had. I am in complete agreement with Greg A who posted his experience on this site. Don't waste your money and time. It is quite clear to us that the management does not believe in providing service to the customers nor care about the quality of the food. Terrible service! My husband and I came to Lake Arrowhead Resort and Spa to celebrate his return from a 7 month deployment with the Navy. We came to Bin 189 for a relaxing afternoon sipping wine. Upon arrival, we were sent by the bartender to the hostess to be seated on the patio. The hostess said to go ahead and find a seat and she would notify a server. Another table nearby received their wine and lunch menus just as we sat down. Their server, nor any other server, acknowledged our presence. After sitting here for about 15 minutes, my husband went to ask for a wine menu and returned after notifying a server of our situation. The server produced a martini menu instead I a wine menu. Another 15 minutes went by without even an acknowledgement. During that 30 minutes without any service, the server was taking lunch and wine orders from the nearby table, offering several wine samples. My husband finally went back to the bar to order a couple drinks himself and brought them back to us himself. It was still another 15 before a server finally brought us the wine menu we should have been offered 45 minutes before. The entire time we sat there, several staff members saw us and not one said a word. An apology was never offered and this place is no where near crowded. Definitely an opportunity for improvement. read more

Just spent a ton of money on a suite here at Lake Arrowhead Resort ($650) for one night to celebrate my husband's b'day. Service was poor, his lamb was served bloody and just about raw. Very disappointing service in an otherwise pleasant atmosphere. We arrived for dinner at our reservation time (7:30); only three other tables in the massive dining room were occupied. We ordered two hamburgers, a chopped salad, and a bottle of wine. 45 minutes later, the bottle was nearly empty but neither our food, nor any update from our server, was anywhere in sight. As we waited, the chef visited a neighboring table to schmooze the diners not once, but twice, without giving our table so much as a glance. When I finally flagged down our server to ask when we would get our food, he said something about staff training going on in the kitchen. When, an hour after our arrival, our food was served, our server offered us dessert on the house, but none of us cares for sweets, so we declined dessert. When the check arrived, we saw that we were charged in full for our meals ($86). Funny, the chef never bothered to come to OUR table. Is it possible that we got such shoddy service because we didn't order more expensive menu items? read more

My husband and I are staying at the resort celebrating our 20th anniversary. Hanging around the pool earlier the reviews were mixed about this restaurant so we gambled and dined there. We are so glad we did. The staff was prompt by sitting us immediately and considerate by providing me with heater and blankets in case we got cold sitting outside after the sun went down. Lourdes was our waitress and she was amazing. We began with the spring rolls which are nothing like regular deep fried spring rolls. They were served cold. Just interesting and tasty although a little spicy. We split a Cesar salad which was extremely large - so glad we split it. Oh did I mention the rolls? Served hot with a delicious dipping sauce. So good! My husband had fish and chips which he enjoyed and I had the angel hair marinara. My only complaint was that it said it came with mushrooms but when asked they said no. The pasta needed something a little more considering the price they were charging. Desert was brought to us for our anniversary. Chocolate flourless cake with chocolate sauce and fresh berries. If I could give this restaurant zero stars I would. Waited 40 minutes to get it my husband's beer and finally flagged someone down. Ordered a salad to start, and a major ingredient was left out. Dinners came out when we were halfway through the salad. When I ordered, I noted my food allergy, but the item was on my plate when served. I asked them to replace it, but they just re-plated the rest of the meal. After discussion (and another 20 minutes while my husband finished his meal--another epic fail) I received a 2nd $36 fillet mignon. This one was burned and the potatoes were cold. The one bright spot was manager Janelle, hopefully she can turn the place around. It is a beautiful setting. read more

Terrible Terrible Terrible. Take this advice and go someplace else. It is not worth the money to eat here. We waited over 45 min to get our food. Apparently there was a mix up in the kitchen and then they brought my child the wrong order so we needed wait longer to get her the right food (which is not easy when you are asking a 2 year old to wait for food). I had the pasta with lobster. The lobster was over cooked and rubbery. Not something you expect from a dish that cost $28. My hubby had the NY strip which was decent. My mom, the cornish game hen also average. Customer service was lacking considering all of the mix ups and bad food. They didn't charge me for the lobster or my child's plate but they didn't offer anything to make up for their shortcomings. When staying at a 4 Diamond Resort and paying these prices, I would expect something ten times better. read more

Cold soup that should have been hot, most food under cooked, over cooked burgers, weird menu again they keep trying to be gourmet and are missing by a mile! Almost inedible for 6 out of 7 guests! Don't go here--this is one of the worst restaurants I've been to. The food took 1.5 hrs to come out and was absolutely inedible. We're not fussy people but this place was just terrible. Even the server agreed and told us this place has huge problems. The next night we ate at the brand new Stone Creek Bistro and our server there had worked at Bin 189 and told us how that place has so many problems. The manager who apparently is new did not charge us for the food and said that this restaurant is in the process of hiring a new chef. This is a gorgeous location so I'd try the restaurant again next time I visit Lake Arrowhead if the food improves. read more

I'm not sure why this restaurant only has 3 stars out of 5. We almost didn't eat here because of the reviews BUT because we stayed at this hotel it was convenient and I'm so glad we decided to give it a shot. They weren't busy but there was at least 5 other tables plus people in the bar area. We were sat right away and she was very professional and friendly. Within two minutes our drink order was taken and we got our drinks right away. Our server, Lindsey, (I apologize if I spelled his name wrong) was very friendly and did a great job. The other guy helping him out was just as good, didn't get his name. Our food came out quick and was really good. We got filets, grilled asparagus and garlic mashed potatoes. The food presentation was great and the food was not even close to being cold like other reviews have said. We have eaten at plenty of upscale restaurants and this one was just as good as others we've been to. We had zero complaints and would definitely go back again if we are ever in the area. read more

I was trying to impress my girlfriend by taking her to a "nice" place for dinner so I made reservations at BIn 189. I have been there once a couple years ago. Upon arriving early we made it to the bar and ordered a couple martini's. The bartender and my girlfriend started arguing about the way a martini is made. This went on for 5 minutes. I lost interest in sitting at the bar after 1 drink. Once we made it to the dinner table there seemed to be an extra long wait for service, and then another 30 minute wait for the food to arrive. The food was a little bit better than Denny's. What started out to be a romantic dinner ended up a big disappointment. Bin 189 is definitely off my list. I wonder if they even look at Yelp?
