I had the pleasure of attending a large birthday dinner at Birba this past Saturday evening, and overall, it was quite a memorable experience. The outdoor setting is truly charming--elegant yet relaxed, and very much in keeping with the desert's natural beauty. The evening began with a delightful cocktail hour and a selection of appetizers, which set a festive and convivial tone. Much of the staff was warm and attentive, contributing positively to the celebratory atmosphere. As the evening progressed, however, there was a rather curious moment. While waiting for the restroom--of which there are only two--my friend and I couldn't help but overhear a staff member speaking rather candidly about the event, remarking on how "easy" it all was and questioning her colleagues' capabilities to handle such an event. It felt like an unexpected glimpse behind the curtain, and admittedly, not the most professional one. Shortly thereafter, we realized that it was our own waitress who was commenting on the very event we were attending. While we chose to take it in stride and even found some humor in the situation as the evening unfolded, it did lend a slightly chaotic undertone to the service. Our waitress appeared quite rushed and somewhat flustered, which stood in contrast to her earlier remarks. That said, the evening concluded on a high note. The meal itself was thoroughly enjoyable, and the company, of course, made the celebration special. All in all, it was a lovely night--enhanced with a touch of unintended "entertainment." read more

We were ecstatic when we were able to book a last minute ressie on a Friday night for a group of 9! They had a variety of tasty menu options to choose from, it was hard not to choose them all! We got some drinks to start! I ordered the espresso martini and they were able to do decaf for me! It was one of the most creamy and delicious ones I've had! We did family style and there was still enough food to go around for all of us girls! Next we got some apps: - Beet Salad - I don't typically like beets but this was delicious! The grapefruit went surprisingly well with the beets. - the Garlic Knot - garlicky, fluffy perfection, 10 of these please! - Fried Squash - also not a fan of squash either but this was executed really well as it complemented well with the dip that came on the side. Annnnd for the main course we ordered: - Rigatoni - pasta was perfectly al dente, the meat sauce was tasty and i kept going back for more of this dish - Pesto - loved the unique pasta used for this dish, pesto's always a good idea! - Tagliatelle - this one was my least favorite pasta dish out of all but still good, just not as memorable - Birba (pizza) - wow! this is one of the more unique pizza's i've tried. it was like a flavor bomb in my mouth. the hint of sweet from the honey and the chili oil combined added a kick - chef's kiss. I'd come back to PS just to get this again! - Homemade Classic (pizza) - this was also delish as well! I love mushroom and this was packed full of them, tasty! Last but not least we had to top off the meal with some desserts! We did not expect the portions to be so large as dessert usually comes in smaller plates but wow! 9 of us girls couldn't even finish half of it and we had to take it home. What we ordered: - Tiramisu - this had a nice and cloudy texture, your typical tiramisu but wow can I taste the alcohol in this lol! - Salted Caramel Pudding - this was amazing! Not too sweet and the consistency was bouncy and smooth, just how pudding should be :) 10 of these too please!! - Olive Oil Berry Cake - this is my first time ever trying the viral olive oil cake and i'm glad they had this as an option so I can finally try what all the hype is about! This was fluffy and light, just the way I like it! It's like a lighter pound cake! Our food came out quickly and the servers were nice and attentive. Came here for dinner one night, though it was mostly an outdoor location, the misting system was super effective. For drinks we ordered a few cocktails, all were tasty and much appreciated in the warm weather. We ordered apps, pastas, and pizzas. The brussels sprouts were only ok, not as crispy as I had hoped. The pesto was very good, good balance of nuttiness and citrus flavor. The highlights were the pizzas: the Birba and Homemade Classic pies were excellent, especially loved the sausage. My husband and I had heard Birba has great cocktails, so we gave it a try. I loved my Italian greyhound, a delicious marriage of vodka, aperol, and grapefruit juice, all favorites. Do not miss the garlic knot, filled with garlic and tasty fresh bread. As the place filled, so did the noise level at this patio restaurant. We were so hungry we did not even have time to wait for a table... it was cold. It was windy outside, so we sat at the bar. I ordered the meatballs with polenta and ricotta. It was so good. I gobbled it up without even thinking about it. The service was very good. The food was nice . In this particular mall, there's really not a lot of restaurants with this quality of food so we were happy to find this place as we were walking and shopping. I usually only leave reviews on Yelp when it is a positive experience but unfortunately feel the need to "buyer beware" restaurant go-ers. We are a well traveled couple from LA that enjoys fine dining. This is not fine dining (or even a fraction of it). We ordered a salad, Brussels, two pasta dishes, and a pizza. Everything we ordered was sub-par, flavorless, not unique, and just very average. The service was sub-par, and overall the entire evening and meal fell completely flat. The restaurant does have a nice vibe and ambiance, but the service and food were honestly terrible. We love going to Bar Cecil, Rooster and the Pig, and all the other fun dining experiences in the desert and were hoping to add this to the list. Was not to be-- don't waste your money. read more

I've stayed in Palm Springs several times and should have dined here much sooner. Food and ambience is amazing. I definitely recommend.

My experience at this restaurant was sub-par. I understand why the service was probably slower than usual, they did seem short staffed. The food was more of a miss though. Pasta wasn't as described, we got the dish with the "crispy eggplant" which was not crispy at all. Both pasta dishes we ordered had such little sauce and the sausage ragu on one of them barely had sausage. Overall, for the prices, I would've expected better food. read more

We were excited to go here, as we love good pizza. The setting is lovely, outside under the trees. Very romantic. Unfortunately, even though our server was very nice, everything took a really long time. We ordered drinks, my dirty martini was OK, but not great, probably the olive juice. My husband's beer (Abita brown lager) didn't come til after the salad was served. Beet salad was very good! Then we waited and waited for our pizza. We got the Piece of the Pie pizza, toppings were good but the crust was awful. Thin but soggy. I only ate 1 piece, and a few of the toppings from the rest. I guess because of our wait our server comped us dessert - butterscotch pudding that was excellent! We might try again and have pasta, and hope service is better. read more

Birba - Disappointing Experience Despite Good Food My husband, Mark S., made a reservation earlier this evening for 7:00 PM. We arrived early at 6:45 PM, checked in with the hostess, and she barely acknowledged us. The Latina hostess was too busy chatting and joking with her coworkers to pay attention when I told her we had a reservation. Despite that, she still made us wait about 15 minutes -- even though the table they eventually sat us at was already vacant and clearly ready. Once seated, we waited again for our server. To his credit, he was attentive once he arrived and apologized for the delay -- he was the one redeeming part of the night. What really surprised me was being served food with no napkins or utensils. We had to ask for them, which is unacceptable at this level. And when the pasta pomodoro came out, no one offered extra cheese or pepper -- something that should be standard for a pasta dish. The dining setup itself is uncomfortable. Tables are far too close, and guests and servers kept bumping into each other or having to apologize just to get by. It didn't feel organized or relaxing. The food was great, but everything around it made the experience not worth it. Palm Springs has plenty of restaurants with better hospitality and better respect for reservations. I only tried Birba because The Eater recommended it, but I wouldn't return. If you plan on visiting, make a reservation and still expect to wait. Honestly, takeout might be the more pleasant option. read more

Surprisingly good food. We liked the black pepper tagliatelle the most with the birba pizza second. The tagliatelle had a really nice flavor and wasn't too heavy. The pizza was sweet with a little bit of kick and deliciously meaty. We also ordered the Tutto carne pizza which was like a yummy meat lovers pizza. We had a lemon olive oil cake and tiramisu for dessert. The tiramisu was a little too mushy and not enough mascarpone but the lemon olive oil cake was nicely balanced, and tasty. read more

Love this place. Have been here twice in the last month, and we love their menu, the service and the garden ambiance! This is a must visit for your PS itinerary! The mushroom risotto (forgive me about the actual name), is superb, the woodfired pizza is on point and have had 3 different flavors, each one is delicious and the crust is amazing. The chopped salad has a great flavor of all its own and is refreshing! The rigatoni is homemade pasta, homemade sausage! Was dying to come here while in Palm Springs. This is a hot spot and you definitely need a reservation! We got lucky with a cancelation, but still had to wait to be seated. The ambiance in the outdoor garden and fire pits make the experience definitely more upscale. The food is mostly classics done well with wood fired pizza being one of the most delicious and frequently ordered things on the menu. The pesto pasta was also delicious. This restaurant definitely has SoCal prices, but it's worth it for a good pizza in my opinion. read more

This place has excellent food! We found ourselves wandering on a chilly Palm Springs winter evening. We almost went to about 3 different places but landed here. The pizza, pasta, and salads were simply excellent. I have definitely walked by before but never entered. Moving forward, I will be visiting as often as I can! From what I recall, we had a hot honey pizza, a ricotta ravioli, and a walnut salad. The cocktails were so yummy too. My mom ordered her first Vesper and loved it. Our server was kind and quick, paying attention to the our needs. The outdoor, garden-like setting with fire pits and trees was dreamy, although we could have used a little more light. It was tough to read the menus. Maybe table lights? Heaters worked well also. I'm so pleased we had a delicious meal at Birba and I can't wait to return. read more

It was home style and focused on delicious ingredients like homemade sausage, dates and olives to season the dishes. Only giving this place two stars because the meatballs were good and the ambiance was great but everything else was a flop. For starters this was a large reservation where we already were aware there would be a 22% service fee. With that we expected exceptional service, unfortunately we experienced quite the opposite. We ordered drinks immediately upon sitting as we were aware we only had the tables for 2 hours. It took 30 minutes to get the drinks to the table. The drinks were not good and we had to send back two as they did not have alcohol in them. The food also took a long time to come out and some people at the table had to wait even longer. We've heard great things about the pasta but it truly lacked flavor. We proceeded to order a second round of drinks and desserts and it took even longer than before. We got the bill, immediately paid and were sitting around waiting for our ubers for maybe 5 minutes after paying and the manager came up to us and said we had to leave because we were 45 minutes passed our contractual agreement. The manager said it with an attitude and it truly felt uncalled for. We wouldn't have been there as long if the service wasnt as slow as it was. Every bite reminded me of my trip to Italy, which says a lot about the authenticity and quality of their dishes. The ambience is beautiful and cozy, with outdoor seating warmed by heat lamps that make the entire space feel inviting and comfortable. It was exactly for what we were looking for: a romantic dinner, not crowded, quiet enough to hear our conversation, creative tasty adult beverages and great food that's gourmet but not too frou frou, but could pass for spontaneous frou frou if that makes sense? Birba excels in that. We even got our reservations bumped up a little because it was too close to closing. Table was was next to the fire pit and surrounded by heat lanterns, so we didn't feel cold at all. Did a "Lady & the tramp" style meal, shared the popular Birba pizza, had Italian beer/Mexican flying squad drink and topped off with tiramisu - YUM! All the staff was excellent & our waitress, young lady I didn't get her name, was very accommodating, very personable and made two old people feel like they belonged she was great! The patrons were mixed young to old, everyone was just enjoying their meals with their company. We came across this bar after dinner and we were met with such a friendly waitress that helped our party find a nice spot to sit for our big party. It was really nice to be met with someone so helpful and friendly. We sat and enjoyed drinks in a sitting area. We did have to go get our own drinks at the bar but we knew that upfront. We were impressed that there was a sitting area for a very packed restaurant for people just enjoying drinks. The bar tenders were very fast and made delicious drinks. This place was excellent. Great food and great service. We had a reservation and were seated in less than 10 minutes. The cauliflower was tender and seasoned well. The garlic knot was perfectly garlicky and cheesy. The salad had a good balance of lettuce and toppings and was very light. The pizza is a must--we had the mushroom one and a sausage one--zero left overs. Our server was sweet to give our bride a dessert treat before we left. The only note is that this is a fully outdoor restaurant. It was 108 degrees and we were boiling while getting soaked by misters the entire meal. Overall, I'm not sure what happened but we had a pretty bad experience at Birba. We were very excited to come in as we had heard such great things, but upon arrival things took a downhill turn. We had to wait 40 minutes for our reservation, there was nowhere to wait as it seemed that other people were waiting for their reservations as well, so we had to stand for a while. Once getting to our table and ordering, we were quite disappointed in the food. None of us enjoyed our meals and honestly the only thing that we liked was the cauliflower. I must say that besides the initial wait, service was extremely good and our waitress could not have been sweeter. Ambience is very nice I must say as well. It's a cool indoor outdoor feel and fits the Palm Springs vibe. If it weren't for the initial wait and the bad food I think this place could been great. We might give it another shot next time we're in Palm Springs. read more

Had a dinner reservation for a bachelorette party and there were some hits and misses throughout the night. This restaurant is very very busy (went on a Saturday night) so be sure to make a reservation otherwise you would probably only have a Birba bar experience. The hits: - the pastas - the birba pizza (not pictured) - the desserts (which were comped which was very nice) - friendly staff - cute patio space - cute (but strong) drinks The misses: - the garlic knot: it was stodgy, lacked salt & had the tiniest amount of cheese. We will KNOT be ordering this again... - the food did not come out all at once so when someone was done (or almost done) eating their meal, some others had not even received their meal yet - spaghetti pomodoro portions were SMALL - we had a reservation and was seated at least 10-20 min after, to which this wouldn't normally bother me, but there is no great area to wait so no matter where we stood we felt in the way - one of the outdoor heaters was not working very well (again this wouldn't normally bother me but because it was so cold and windy, this is something staff should've been attentive to) read more

Nice place with really friendly people. The menu is a little selective but some nice options. The knot is a total waste. For the price , we were expecting some garlic bread for the table but ended up being a small basic item. Salad was interesting but a little small to share. Pizzas were a good size to share for 2. Most disappointing was the roasted chicken. A total overcooked mess drenched in olives. Not my favorite but was extremely busy, so they aren't gonna miss me. read more
