I would give this place 0 stars if I could. I met the so called owner and he was so rude!!! His tone was very condescending and I didn't feel welcomed here. I will not recommend this place to anyone. Do better! I'm so upset. read more

I'm only writing this in the hopes that it encourages a better environment, not to disparage the cafe- because I truly want to enjoy this beautiful space. Unless I'm not welcome. Because man! I've given about 5 attempts over the years, even pre covid, and I was thrilled to see they were a staple of the community. However I consistently get the nagging feeling that I'm not welcome to enjoy the environment. I've never been greeted, even upon making eye contact and approaching the counter. Hot lattes are magnificent! I got a cold vanilla latte the other day and it was just as good! The owner is so sweet. He immediately makes you feel so welcome. The decor of the place makes you feel like you can sit for hours and forget about the fierce world. Love this place. read more

Cute spot to chill or work on your computer. The owner collects stuff so there's all kinds of interesting things inside the shop like a vintage large chess set and some mix n match furniture. The vibe is chill which is why I like going. The drink and food items are nothing special but everything is a decent price and the customer service is always friendly and inviting. They let me bring my dog inside which is always a plus for me! read more

Adorable coffee shop in Long Beach! The cashier/barista was super friendly! I ordered the Mexican abuelita with almond milk and it was delicious. Barista let me know that it had caffeine in it which was the perfect combo for a Saturday morning. Service was fast and friendly! Also really great prices as I got a large for about $6, cheaper than chain coffee shops. Coming back again! read more

Very cute small locally owned coffee shop with good wifi. This is more for meeting up with someone for a few hours than for studying and/or working for longer than that - management doesn't like it if you're there longer than a few hours. The Turkey sandwiches and coffee are great. Cute date and hang out spot. Parking in that part of Long Beach can be hellish but if you look up "lot a" b or c, they're close by and have free 2hr parking for visiting businesses in the area. About a 5-10 minute walk from the shop. read more

We visited birdcage when we were in town for a wedding. It is the most beautiful little coffee shop, with amazing decor and ambiance. The person who helped us was very friendly and makes some of the best Latte's I have had. I would strongly recommend coming here instead of a chain coffee shop, you will not regret it. read more

The best coffee spot in Long Beach, almost hidden away from the hustle & bustle of the city. You'll find a one-of-a-kind ambiance inside with unique decor and antiques that make you feel like your in another world. The service is always fantastic and friendly and you'll often find the owner Eleno working behind the counter or having casual conversations with patrons. Not something you find very often these days with overhyped coffee shops or commercial places like Starbucks. Only high quality Lavazza coffee from Italy is what they use here, and it makes for a delicious cup of coffee or espresso every time. If you're hungry as well I'd definitely recommend one of their croissant sandwiches, which are made with the freshest produce I have ever seen. read more

This shop is the example of what a locally owned coffee shop should be. Friendly ownership who connects with the community, the food is great and the coffee is delicious. The shop is always changing up with different decorations but what remains consistent is the chess pieces that you can use if you reserve ahead of time. I loved going to this little intimate place. It was homely and I loved the customer service and the product. I only had coffee and a muffin. The only reason it did not get the five stars, because when I was there, there was something on the furniture that bit me up. So, I left with a bunch of bites on my arms. Maybe they should spray the room a little more frequently. read more

As far as the coffee and food, I give this place a 3 but if I had to rank for the ambiance alone, this place gets a 5. The coffee shop is quaint and offers a quiet and somehow nearly hidden locale. If you don't like the appearance of clutter then don't go inside, but if you enjoy seeing and being around a mixture of birdcages and Mexican cultural items, then definitely stop by (with cash since they're cash only). The coffee and food weren't spectacular and bought from Costco. The muffins, bagels, little pastries, and coffee: all Costco. As a local place, it would've been nice if the shop could blend it's interior design with its flavors and sources/types of food. read more

Cute hidden gem, nice place to stop by for some coffee and light snacking. They have a good variety of coffee. The parking is a bit difficult because we were t sure if the lot on the side was for it but there is street parking just beware on the weekends. I would definitely go back for another cup of coffee~ read more

My husband is a pizza person through and through, and even though Marlena is not really positioned as a pizza place, the pizza won him over completely. That says a lot. The ambiance is wonderful and the fact that it's mostly outdoors makes it dog friendly, which is always a bonus for us. The food across the board is just solid and well executed without trying too hard to be anything other than what it is. A really warm, genuinely enjoyable dinner in Long Beach and one we will likely be returning to.

I stopped in for a coffee and a side of bacon, and my total was almost $20. For such a simple order, that's hard to justify. I understand food costs have increased, but the pricing feels excessive compared to other local restaurants that serve quality food at much more reasonable prices. My biggest concern, however, is the impact the business has had on our neighborhood. Since Zuzu's Petals opened, we've noticed a significant increase in litter, much of it appearing to be food and drink packaging from the restaurant. Weekend traffic on the sidewalks has become overwhelming, customers often park in alleyways or in unsafe locations, and it has made our neighborhood much more difficult to navigate. We brought these concerns to an employee, but were told there wasn't much they could do. If this business truly wants to be part of the community, I hope they take more responsibility for the impact they're having on the surrounding neighborhood. Encouraging customers to park responsibly, helping keep the area clean, and offering more reasonably priced menu options would go a long way toward building goodwill with the people who actually live here. I always want local businesses to succeed, but right now I can't recommend Zuzu's Petals based on both my experience and the ongoing issues it's created for nearby residents. Also beach cleaning isn't cleaning our neighborhood. That's no support to our neighborhood. Maybe have a neighborhood clean up day instead.

I recently tried Birdcage Coffee House and guys, I am HOOKED! It's such a shame that I hadn't stopped by sooner, my grandma lives right down the street, and I've always passed right by this lovely establishment. Birdcage is conveniently located near downtown Pine Ave., perfect for anyone in the area looking for a nice treat. The service here is great, as the owners are very friendly. The atmosphere, however, truly makes your visit a unique experience; they have REAL parrots chillin' outside, and the interior décor is very chic with a cozy, vintage vibe. I had the pleasure of trying their iced vanilla latte, and it was easily a 10/10 for me. It was a little strong but sweet and refreshing, just how I like it. I enjoyed my beverage so much that I stopped by again the very next day. On my second visit, I substituted regular milk for oat milk and it was perfect! They also offer pastries and sweets, although I haven't tried any yet. Overall, Birdcage Coffee House has gained a customer for life, and I'll definitely stop by whenever I'm in the area and craving a coffee. I absolutely recommend this coffee shop to anyone, at the very least for a one-and-done experience. Support your local businesses! read more

When I go out to get a good cup of coffee, breakfast or a lunch sandwich with a tasty dessert, we go to the Birdcage Coffee House at 224 West 4th Street in Long Beach California. Can't beat the food, price and the service. Eleno the host always greets us with a friendly hello. We are Christians and Eleno is Catholic and he welcomes all people with open arms no matter who they are. The Metro Blue Line train is only a few steps away at the corner of Pacific Ave. and 4th Street and the City Place Shopping Center is about a block away with a farmers market every Friday. Ride your bike or car and park in front. Eleno makes everyone feel at home when they visit and he is a kind and caring person. Located only a few blocks from the Pacific Ocean, it is naturally cool in the summer and there is a real fire place to keep you warm in the winter. There is also free Wi-Fi for customers and a large flat screen TV where you can watch your favorite show or sports. There is plenty of seating for everybody. In fact, the Birdcage hosts meetings for local clubs, businesses and government organizations. The Birdcage is a place where everybody knows your name. But don't take my word for it, go see for yourself. read more

Wow I love the Place, it's like your in Mexico ,the decor is very unique and the service is excellent ! The owner for the coffeehouse name is Eleno Machuca, he is a very cool and frendly person. I will definitely be back again, I was there when the coffeehouse was accommodatinng a meeting for 35 deaf people. It was very nice and interesting to see 35 hearing impaired people get together and communicated impressively with the hands I was very fasinated to see this and I notice that the owner was also communicating and participating in the meeting as well. This is a quiet coffee shop with a friendly owner. We ordered two regular coffees and a dirty chai latte. The drinks were hot and served in good-sized medium cups. We also ordered a regular butter muffin. The owner warmed it up and sliced it for us, which we really appreciated. You usually don't get that kind of service in smaller coffee shops or from chains. The outside patio has nice tables and chairs, with lovely greenery around. I highly recommend this place. The bathroom was very clean, too. read more

Years ago, I received a gift card from Steelhead Coffee, but never made it a point to stop by any…read moreof their locations since there are much more coffee shops closer to me. I was planning a rare visit to the oceanfront, and along the way stood Steelhead on Broadway. Steelhead on Broadway is located on Broadway (duh! lol) and Redondo on the southwest corner of the intersection. It's in the very corner of the building next to Flamin' Curry and Baddeley's Pourhouse Sports Bar. When I came in, I was greeted by the barista, Ruben, who was busy making drinks for the steady flow of customers. His co-worker, Jacob, was at the register taking orders, fielding questions, and just making friendly conversation with the clientele. There isn't much standing room in front of the counter, so when there was another customer standing by the wall, I thought it was her turn to order until she mentioned she was clueless on what drink(s) to get. I was clueless as well, so I used the opportunity to ask Jacob a handful of questions like what the drink sizes looked like, what the Aerocano was, and what Cortado was. Jacob answered my questions with ease and well enough that I was sold on the Aerocano. Some of the drinks on the menu are offered in two or even three sizes, but the Aerocano is one of the drinks that only comes in one size, 12 oz in this case. Interestingly enough, the back of my gift card listed Steelhead Coffee's other two locations, but not this one, so I wasn't sure if my gift card would work here. Sure enough, it did, but after paying, the tablet mentioned I could earn 50 points for putting in my phone number. I wanted to ask about their rewards program, but before Jacob could finish answering, the tablet went to a different screen. Unfortunately, there was no way for Jacob to go back and retroactively apply my phone number to the last order. I probably would have been interested in joining the rewards program, but this stroke of bad luck was enough to deter me from joining. While all that was going on, Ruben prepared my Aerocano so fast that I didn't have to wait any longer to start sipping on the drink, which is pretty much a black coffee and doesn't come with cream or sugar. There was quite a bit of foam on top of the Aerocano, which was a little more than I preferred. Also, even though I was told ahead of time it'd be in a 12 oz cup, I still felt I could have used a little more drink and a little less ice for the price point, which I'd still say is reasonable for a quick pick-me-up. Jacob was very friendly and helpful! If I rated them based on service alone, it'd be an easy 5. I even witnessed him making friendly conversation with other customers, likely regulars. As I went up to take a second look at the menu, he asked if I liked the Aerocano, to which I replied "not too shabby". I think he also mentioned that he was willing to remake the drink if something went awry, but I was satisfied with the taste of the Aerocano drink overall. While I'm not a coffee connoisseur by any means, I don't think the Aerocano was that much different than a traditional Americano; like there are some subtle nuances between the two drinks that I wouldn't be able to describe, but I'm sure the connoisseurs could. Ruben was friendly too, greeting me as I entered through the front door. I did witness him crossing Redondo while I was enjoying my Aerocano, leaving Jacob as the lone barista in the shop for just a few minutes. But even on a Sunday afternoon, it wasn't that busy that they could afford to take breaks like that. Inside the coffee shop, they have four round tables, each of which could seat two, as well as a couple of bar-style tables by the window. Between these bar-style tables is a small refrigerator of grab & go drinks like Olipop and Harmless Harvest. There are also five shelves of merch next to one of these tables, and I'm assuming this merch is for sale. They also have four two-seater tables outside if you prefer to sip your coffee/tea al fresco. They also serve some baked goods here. While I was placing my order, Jacob asked if I'd like any, but I didn't see any price tags on them. I was curious how much they cost, and he estimated between $4 and $8. I had just eaten a rather large lunch, so I passed on the baked goods. I also saw a couple of customers come in with their dogs, so they seem to be friendly to dogs as well. Parking was anything but easy. They don't have a parking lot in the immediate vicinity, so I had to circle around a few neighboring blocks before I found a spot on 1st St. I probably won't make a return visit since I don't find myself in this part of town as often, but if you do live nearby, I highly recommend patronizing Steelhead Coffee for a quick pick-me-up. I still have a remaining balance on my gift card, so I'll be looking forward to exhausting the remaining funds at the other two locations. Recommended!
