My husband saw Birria Patro Jaramillo featured on a Youtube video of best eats in San Jose. We made it our mission to go there for lunch as a result. We arrived around 11am on a Sunday. Very simple, no frills taqueria style restaurant. Not only was the place packed, but it was also constantly packed. We lucked out and were able to get a table inside. Service was great. Since it was our first time at the restaurant, the employee at the register asked us if we wanted to sample their regular steamed birria and birria revolcada, which was cooked with onions and peppers. I preferred the birria revolcada and got it in a super quesadilla. This was my first time having lamb birria. I have to be honest in saying that lamb isn't my favorite because of its gaminess. I was told to try out this place with "birria tacos to die for". Having tried it out in person though, that sentiment resonates. Rest assured this is high up on some of the best lamb birria I've had ever. Admittedly not huge variety here, but good food is good. Super casual and somewhat chaotic with all that local charm. As mentioned it can get a bit chaotic if your spanish isn't up to scratch and orders might be a bit mixed around in getting to your table. First come first served on seating. The food'll make it's way to you eventually after you order and place that numbered placard on your table of choosing. I personally went with the namesake Birria Revolcada, which had a delightfully hot broth that really hit the spot, plenty of lamb, and a whole grilled jalapeno on top that pushed up that spicy levels a notch or two. Delicious, but especially with all the salsas...definitely quite the amount of heat. My brother, playing it more safe since he's only slightly tolerant of spicy, went with a Super Quesadilla. Extremely different from all the ones we normally get since this was rather wet on the inside with lots of lettuce and the like. I normally take my time with my reviews but I will make this one quick for you guys. Let's get straight to the point. DO get the birria revolacada if you like lamb. It's the best in the bay. Portions are generous and their tortillas are not perfect circles. They're handmade! The consome is a lighter broth that goes really well with the meat as a soup or a dip. This is their specialty and 1 order can feed 1.5 adults. DON'T recommend the nachos. It's fine but I've had better at Arujo's or Lucy's. Their tortilla chips taste like store bought Calidad. I also enjoyed their Menudo. They put a lot of tripe so I recommend you share this dish with at least 1 other person. Too much of this hearty soup can get nauseating. Great recommendation from my daughter! We let her pick dinner after taking her to vote for the first time! Able to walk right up and order right away. Girl at counter was very nice & offered to answer any questions. We each ordered something different (daughter gave some recommendations). When order was ready, it was brought to us. I know I committed the cardinal sin of not ordering birria from a place that literally has birria in its name, but I still had a positive experience with the items I ordered. I saw that they were highly rated on Uber Eats and decided to order some items to try out. I got the ceviche de camaron ($4.99 on UE) and a super burrito ($10.99 on UE). The ceviche was very fresh with a generous portion of shrimp and a good balance of tomato and cucumber! I've had shrimp ceviche in the past where the shrimp got too gummy and tough, but the shrimp in this ceviche stayed nice and tender. I prefer my ceviche to have more lime juice and noticed that the ceviche I received was on the drier side. Overall the dish was fresh and tasty, and I would order it again. The super burrito came with green salsa, red salsa, and some tapatio. The red salsa is quite spicy, while the green salsa is much milder. The meat portion in the super burrito was pretty generous and I felt that the burrito was mostly meat and rice. The rice was on the mushier side though. I wouldn't have minded if the burrito had more cheese or even more pico de gallo. However, I really liked how they charred the surface of the tortilla, which made the burrito very toasty and even more flavorful! Clearly they do a good job making non-birria menu items, so I'll have to come back to try their birria sometime. read more

Had heard good information about Jaramillo and needed to feed a trio for the night so I went with it! YAS. We got a decent online order and the food landed earlier than expected, safe and out of sight. :) I ordered + Birria tacos (3) sans side Nacho fries/asada HELLA FOOD/carbs Flautas (4) pollo = beans/rice/sour cream etc... Horchata/ large Arroz/grande When I saw and weighed the order with my arm, I thought they maybe gave us like an extra order of food or something, it was what we ordered for dinner. hahaha We all took food from each serving and I we got WAY MORE FOOD than I expected, the nacho fries alone were AT LEAST 4-4 /1.2 servings of food. I think they could sense that we were really hungry that night, yessir. As for the birria tacos the goat meat was nicely stewed, and it was nice and soft and moist and fresh to taste strand with little pull. I grew up eating food like birria served in an actual stew in Mexico and home and this tasted really authentic because it held a nice goat meat taste. I never did the birria yelp/foodie band wagon wave, because I rarely eat goat meat and also the little birria places I tried just haven't tasted fresh or decent. AND another note some restaurants even taco trucks will say birria but in actuality is BEEF meat OR BBQ asada meat. I don't know how I figured it out, but I did and am glad too! Pretty neat advertising trick. he he he. lol. ASK QUESTIONS! Nacho fries was heavily prepared with asada meat, avocado, sour cream and other ingredients and this was what I wanted and shared out with us. Overall mad decent and was like at least 4 servings of fries and meat. hahaha. CRAZY. :) Flauta's plate pollo/chicken specifics were amply prepared with meat and I will say meat were a bit dry for my taste, maybe they fried them a bit because the edges of the toasted tortilla were charred. No biggie the side of pinto beans and rice really tasted fresh for the order. For me this is a skip on my list or order. Horchata drink was good, I don't like horchata, but this is the exception, most taste hella chalky and robust with sugar and thick and grainy. YES? YES. "Anyone willing to travel 70 miles round trip to get a Birria taco must be crazy or the establishment must have some damn good tacos!! So I went. They are located in a small parking of a small business complex. Their signs are big and bold so you can't miss them. The inside is kind of unassuming with a tv. Some pictures on the wall and a beautiful mural. I walked up a spoke with a person who took my order, she was super sweet! I asked her if their Birria's are made with lamb? (Note some places make them with steak, those are not Birria's, those be steak tacos) She said yes so I ordered 3. On crispy shells with melted cheese! They came with home made tortillas, lime, dipping juice and red & green sauce. Ok ok!! Now for the good part "honestly there was no bad part" the taste. All's eye's got's to say is DAMN!!!! I mean Damn!!! Talk about a flavor explosion in your mouth! And juicy too!! Seriously people, I know now why she travels 70 miles for the Birria's. The good: This was my 3rd birria experience. The interior ambience is casual. You order at the counter but the workers will bring your food out to you. You clean up your own tables at the end. I tried the birria taco dorado combo with grilled birria with grilled onions and a small side of consome. I also tried the birria revolcada (grilled lamb with tortilla on the side). The lamb flavor was apparent but wasn't in your face. The meats were tender. The cashier was helpful and patient and explained all of the different options to us. The bad: The consome was pretty greasy and I think could have toned down a notch in saltiness. The parking lot is small and it is noisy inside. I think the walls/furniture don't absorb noise well here. There's no outdoor dining option here. The interesting: Lately, birria has been all the rage. I been here around 6 times and the food has always been great, really friendly staff and great drinks. Today, i went to surprise my girlfriend for her birthday, the order was different than usual. while watching my food being prepared, i was shocked to see my food being put in their microwave for around 2 minutes. when it came out it looked nuked and when i came home with the food, its hot in some places and warm in others. I personally haven't seen a restaurant use a microwave for food before and only thought it was a joke as to hear "chef mike" prepared your food. for the amount of money I spent to see what was done with my food has really put this place below my recommendations for mexican food. read more

We always ask for pata on the side, but menudo shouldn't end up being mostly pata and broth. I always thought it was impossible until now. This place is easy to drive past but if you find yourself here then definitely make a stop. Wife and I came before a drive-in and we were blown away. I have only ever had birria tacos twice and both times were from this place! We got them extra crispy the second time around and it was amazing!! The combo comes with 3 tacos and the consome ($11.99). The consome seems to be a bit lacking in flavor but we don't have anything to compare it to so it's hard to say if it is what it's supposed to be. We also got their birria burrito ($8.99) which was super loaded and their al pastor quesadilla ($6.99)! The al pastor was just a bit dry or overcooked. Rating - 3.5 Stars I was mainly drawn to this place due to the fact their birria tacos are made with lamb instead of beef, but I found that the lamb taste was more on the milder side. However, it still tasted good overall and the meat was tender. Each taco also had a good amount of meat with an appropriate ratio of cheese, and the tortilla was crispy as well. The consommé on the other hand was sadly on the watery side. On its own, it's still somewhat flavorful and you can taste a very light meatiness to it, but I wish it had stronger/deeper flavors to make up for the mild lamb taste. This is only my second time having birria tacos though, so not sure if the consommé is just normally supposed to be like a very, very light broth. On a side note, I think the green salsa here is absolutely fantastic and probably one of my top favorites that I've ever had (not that I've had much though). It's really refreshing and flavorful. There birria is a family recipe and it's amazing, the good is also consistent same good flavor. Spacious that when you're inside with others, you are not next to each other. We stopped by on a Saturday afternoon. Minimal ppl inside but looks like ppl called their order in and come by to pay and pick up. We waited a good 15mins after we ordered to get our food. Everything is made when you order so nothing is sitting around. Total was a bit high in price for tacos etc. Got it home and really enjoyed everything we ordered. Like I said I'm still eating out, a lot more than usual and I still go out of my way to try new places even though Ronnie is not a fan of trying anything new. We called ahead to place our order and in 20 minutes it was ready. I don't remember what the family ordered but I ordered the lamb super quesadilla and lamb nachos. OK, so I did not finish it but it made a terrific leftover hours later when Ronnie tried it and even thought it was delicious however, his brother and nephew said that what he just ate was lamb.
