We've been going here since I was a little kid and it has never disappointed! I get the same thing every single time: the "small combination", which comes with a taquito, taco, quesadilla, and beans. They know how to combine flavors because this combo is just pure perfection! The "jugo de birria" is really good too - I get it whenever I feel a cold or sore throat coming and it is the perfect remedy. You order at a window in the enclosed patio (there are several tables in the patio) and pick up your tray (or to-go bag) from the same window. It's cozy, local, and delicious! Chimi is choc full of lean pulled pork, delish refrieds and excellent salsa, topped with cabbage and raddish. Side salsa is bright orange indicative of fire water ;D and a bit too hot for us but a good keeper to add a drop to your own homemades :) Definitely delicious food here, menudo daily and going to try more next visit! Just a few fountain drinks options RC and RC Cherry $1.95/Reg in Styro cups. In house dining is under an enclosed patio of meshed wire, safety bars, and partial plexiglass so you experience traffic noise and some elements of hot or cold outside. But there is a faux fireplace with air blower to warm you as you order and Wash basin right under menu to get you knife & fork ready, which are plastic in case you want to BYO, but plates on a ceramic plate. My family have been coming here for years and have always gotten the small combination. It includes one beef taco, one quesadilla, one rolled taco and beans. It is delicious! My taco tour of Tucson continues with another hole-in-the-wall taqueria: Birrieria Guadalajara. I ordered a 3-taco plate, doing a mix-and-match with 2 carne asada tacos and 1 birria taco, all on corn tortillas. I was skeptical when I saw all of the fixings piled high on top of the meat, but the coolness of the lettuce actually tasted great on such a hot day. The carne asada was not quite up to what I've tasted at places like Tacos Apson, with a texture that I felt was a bit tougher than it should be. However, the birria taco was excellent, and oh so juicy and tender. The corn tortillas could hardly hold the entire creation together, and I did have to resort to using my fork to eat the final part of the birria taco. But let me say, those tortillas were legit. So overall, let's call the experience 4 stars. I'm glad I visited. read more

Good food stand, but not great. I had the menudo here, but I had a lot of hominy. It's cool to see that modest food stand has done so well, but maybe menudo isn't their strong suit. It's interesting what is and isn't offered with your menudo. I was offered salt and salsa, which is new to me. The service was quick and polite, but speaking Spanish helps a bit. What a pleasant surprise finding this place on a recent search for a breakfast spot! It is definitely a hot spot for locals as we watched at least 12 people come in, within 30 minutes, with their own pots for gallons of Menudo with all the fixings. The Hubs has a bowl of Menudo and I did the egg/chorizo burrito-- 16 bucks. My burrito came with hash browns and beans and the beans were five star frijoles. They have the usual Mexican joint menu items but what I loved was they also do traditional Mexican meals to go that feed a family for $25! read more

Been going here for 40 years or is it more than that? It is a little dicey here but some things are very very good. Not all. No to the posole like Gabby V review. Their refried beans to go are the best in town fr me. $10 for a quart. A little pricey but worth it. The birria soup is excellent. Service at the window is a little unforgiving and no one seems to care that you are patronizing the samll place. Their menudo is good when they have it. Bring your own container and say no the expensive bread rolls. I get the beans and head south for tortillas at Linda's. read more

Had the pozole, it had great flavor but way to many hominy's. It was a bit cramped, but then again it was a Sunday.

Is there a way I can post this anonymously? Or maybe I can get set up on witness protection after I post this? I'm not saying I'm fearing for my life but Tucsonans don't joke about their golden spots and I'm not trying to take a swim at Lakeside if you know what I mean. Okay, I'm just gonna say it...the pozole wasn't that good. I came here for the pozole, I heard raaave reviews about the pozole, it's all I wanted, all I needed, everything to me. I thought that the location was simple and traditional, service staff was polite and friendly (no issues at all with English, if that's a concern for you). But the pozole was just...not that great. Don't get me wrong, it wasn't hot water over pork or tomato sauce poured over hominy. But it just didn't strike me as great. The pork was sizable and tasty, the hominy was well cooked, but what brought this stew from solid to subpar for me was the broth. It just didn't pack much flavor, tasted watered down, really lost my interest less than halfway through the bowl. Don't get me wrong, this was a single experience and hey, maybe it was just a bad batch. I'd love to come here again just due to the local legacy of this place. But I don't think I'll be in quite the hurry I anticipated before. read more

Whenever we are in town, we never miss this gem. Please keep in mind it's CASH ONLY however, there is a Bank of America ATM half a block down the road. We've had their pozole which I must say it's soo delicious and the tacos de Carne Asada y Birria is my weakness. The service is quick and friendly. We will keep coming back. read more
