A classic French bistro. To get complaints out of the way: The server was a bit brusque when taking our orders. I also thought he was excessively cagey when asked to make a recommendation (a "well, everything's good" that sounded a bit like "make up your own damn mind" or "I don't want to be blamed if you don't like your choice"). That aside, the service was prompt and attentive. The atmosphere was nice, and the food was really good. It seemed to me that all parts of the meal were of a very uniformly high quality, the sauces were great, and nothing was overlooked. Nothing particularly surprising, this place is more classic than avant garde, but that's perfectly fine in my book. (I suppose the one element of the meal that was not quite to my taste was the cappucino with dessert, but evidently it was done in an authentically French style, very mild coffee and a lot of extremely fluffy foam. This was my first time in the Huntington location, visited Plainview over five years ago. Nice ambiance, wait staff was attentive. Started with the mussels in white wine and garlic. Muscles were plump and overall tasty, the sauce was a little bland and was lacking a little something. Rack of lamb was cooked perfectly and tasty. My wife and I had lunch here last week. Its one of our favorite restaurants in Huntington. It can get very crowded at dinner so we find lunch a better way enjoy a quiet meal. They bring out hot bread while you're getting ready to order. I ordered mussels in a garlic/tomato/basic sauce that were great. The mussels arrive in a copper pot with a hinged lid that you put your empty shells in. When you're working on the sauce at the end, the waiter unhinges the top and removes it to make room at the table. My wife ordered the crab salad served over greens. She enjoyed it, though noted that there were a few small pieces of shell. They have a pretty good beer selection including a few tasty Belgian ales. We enjoyed excellent fresh bread before appetizers. The butter and pate were very good as well. We had mussels in cream sauce that was out of this world. Chunks of ham/bacon in the sauce made it over the top. I had the red snapper special which came with roasted potatoes, Brussel sprouts and finely sliced leeks was one of the best fish dishes I have ever had. I'm sad to have to write this review, as I had been going to this restaurant for years and it was quite good. My husband took me out for my birthday this weekend and we went here. The menu had changed a bit, which is fine, always good to update the selections. Unfortunately after the prompt seating, the experience went downhill. Our waitress acted like she couldn't be bothered to be at work. Whilst she did help correct the drink order, which was made with the wrong liquor the first time, she did it with such a sour face. Perhaps she was having a bad day, but it definitely did not help to watch her wander about, slow as molasses, whilst other staff were running about taking care of customers. After we were there for over 45 minutes we asked where our food was. We had ordered a starter to share and then a main course each. People who had sat down much later than us had already received their starters (one of which was what we ordered). She said she'd check on it and then came out with a barely warm dish. We were starving so just ate it. Then the mains came out. I had ordered the chicken paillard which was the furthest thing from what it should be. The chicken was not pounded thin, nor was it good quality chicken as it was quite fatty. It was more a sautéed chicken than grilled, which is how a paillard is usually prepared. On top of that, the pomme frites that came with it seemed to have been reheated or beyond overcooked. I usually order wine with dinner but didn't want to waste one more cent on this place. Didn't sound busy at all, took the time to explain why they don't take reservation... However, we drove down (hour drive from Suffolk, arrived 8ish) and found out their closing. Really!? I ordered their Lyonnaise Burger without a bun. I received a burger in a tin with nothing on it or with it. I ordered their special salad Cassis with the dressing on the side. I got some wilted lettuce of some kind with a few old pieces of beets where you could see the bottom of the tim because there was hardly anything in it. I called 4 times and got hung up on 4 times before getting someone on the line who hung up after explaining that she had no authority to fix the order without a manager. I called 3 more times and finally got the manager who said that I should call the police instead of offering to replace but did have driver pick the order back up. I had to call Grubhub to get the order refunded even after they picked up the entire order. This place is a zero. read more

My boyfriend took me here for a belated Valentine's date. It lived up to the hype! Drinks: Malbec special. His: The Duck 5/5 stars. He got it medium rare. The portion was a decent size. And very yummy Mine: The lamb shank with mushroom risotto. 5/5 stars. The meat fell off the bone it was so tender. The knife it came with was pointless, it was that easy. Dessert: The coffee and cappuccino we ordered to our surprise was complimentary. A sweet gesture. We had the chocolate mousse as a second choice because the chocolate cake was sold out. There are limited choices for French cuisine in Long Island, but luckily we have Bistro Cassis as a splendid option. I have gone several times to the Huntington location and each time was blown away by an excellent culinary experience with great drinks and tasty food. Dishes of note include the onion soup, escargot, the rack of lamb, and the duck entree. I've lived in France and was excited to try this place but it was such a disappointment. The "croque monsieur" was nothing like the real thing.. it was a glorified ham and cheese sandwich -- without the requisite melted and slightly toasted cheese on the *outside*, which is the way an authentic croque monsieur is prepared. The salad with brie toast was good, however. If the food was nothing to write home about, the service was atrocious. Not only was my server rude, but he brought me coffee in a dirty mug (with someone else's bright red lipstick!). When I sent it back, he was apologetic and brought a new (presumably clean) mug. But they still charged me for it! What idiots. Try "La Plage" in Wading River for a more satisfying French restaurant. read more

I've been to Cassis a few times and each time it was always just ok. I've had both duck dishes and the duck a l'orange is certainly the best. The last time I went, the server screwed up 2 orders and practically denied she did it when everyone at the table new that the server was incorrect. The owner of the restaurant came over and gave us a round of free drinks to make up for the inconvenience. All in all, I'd say the cuisine is good, there's a variety of items on the menu, the bathroom is immaculate (as far as I can tell) and the location in Huntington Village is nice. read more

The standard bearer of consistently great dining in downtown Huntington. This is our go to place, the mussels provencale is insane and the juices in the pan could be taken home as a soup, it's that good. My go to meal is the duck, but the steaks are cooked perfectly as well. The Steak tartar is probably the best I've had in the States. Great beer and wine selection as well. We were a party of 7 this past Saturday evening, which was Restaurant Week. I understand that three courses for $29.95 gives The restaurant a chance to promote and procure new customers. I can also understand that when you get the courses, they should be of the highest standard. To get to the point, I ordered escargot, which was part of the special. The escargot were the size of my pinky nail! They were not in any way shape or size a full escargot! I believe Cassis cut the escargot into fourths, and served them. Are you kidding me? Escargots come in a can and really are not that expensive! This restaurant served escargots which were as big as a small corn kernel! One Cut up piece of escargot, in the small hole? Ridiculous! I was actually embarrassed to say something, as I was with a party of six others. No one else ordered this dish. My main course was a small piece of steak, which wasn't a skirt steak, as promised. It look like a tip piece of tenderloin. The kind you make a stew with because the piece is the end & is so small. The kind you don't serve even if it's a dinner party at your house! The last thing I want to mention is I ordered a Tito's martini straight up. The drink was $14. for the martini, & then... are you ready?... $1.00 for it beiNg "UP"! I asked the server what that was, and he told me because it was served up, Meaning there was no ice, and more alcohol! But isn't that is how a martini is served? That addition was totally uncalled for! Very very disappointed in Cassis Bistro, To say the least, and who gave the least on their restaurant week menu. We still spent $115 per couple at that table! The server also was very efficient, actually too efficient. The proper way to clear a table is when all parties are finished with their dish. Twice The server came to clear the dishes & twice was told to leave the dishes, as one person in our party wasn't done eating. My fears were unfounded though, as both the food & service were excellent. Our server was Kyle, he was very friendly & attentive. Water & delicious french bread arrived immediately. Ok I admit I'm a snotty foodie. So is my husband. The chef here knows what he/she's doing. Authentic, fine French cuisine in a no frills basic bistro type setting. I really don't care if I'm sitting on the curb on the side of the street as long as I'm eating the food from here I'm a happy camper. It speaks for itself. The service is remarkable. My recommendations: Seafood Bouillabaisse. The broth is so delicate and complimentary to all the flavors in the fish. I wish I could eat this once a week. A+++ Cabillaud et Coques. Black cod with cockles, etc. I never even saw cockles in my life and after this dish whenever I find them at the market I scoop them up to make a broth. Little morsels of goodness. So delicious. A+++ Carre d'agneau au Vin Port. Walnut crusted rack of lamb in shallot port sauce with sides. The husband had it, loved it, A+++ ravioli du Jour Homemade ravioli of the day . Goat cheese with fig. I wanted to give more stars. I really did. Especially after reading all the rave reviews but it was a meh brunch experience. Arrived Sunday with a friend around 1:30pm and there were two people ahead of us. We just waited in the entrance with no acknowledgement from the staff. People ahead of us were seated and still no acknowledgment and visibly two tables open. Finally seated 20 minutes later. To be fair, the place was super busy and the staff was buzzing around doing their best but the service and meal just fell flat. We waited (and waited) to give our order and the waitress was disinterested at best. Drinks (mimosa and bloody mary) arrived quickly but our coffee order was forgotten and I had to remind waitress after our food came out. I ordered the chicken & spinach crepes and maybe it was just the wrong choice (seems like ham & cheese was crowd fav). Crepe was spongy. Accompanied by bacon and sausage and some sort of shredded potato patty. My friend got eggs benedict and that looked a bit better. Big brunch menu variety. Atmosphere was the best part of our time there. Spot-on classic French bistro vibe. Started off a 5 star experience, the food was good, so what can they possibly do that wrong to deserve a 1 star? We have been to Cassis several times, the food is good, service good, but last night (Sunday) during a family celebration (6 adults), we were seated all the way in the back of the restaurant, just starting our appetizers, enjoying conversation, and our wine, when a couple with two very young boys were seated at the table next to ours. There were many other tables open, including outside. The parents sat next to each other facing the children, the children were seated next to each other facing us (recipe for disaster if you remember your childhood). The children were fussy, crying, screaming, pinching each other, banging on the table, and deafeningly disruptive, so much so that most other patrons quickly left as they finished their meals. These children never settled down, in fact they become resoundingly worse with every moment. One of the two children was ill; he had a constant croupy cough and seemed to need a nebulizer, or at least to be home in bed with a humidifier running. They were there for more than two hours; first, feeding their children a plate of pasta while they drank cocktails, then they leisurely had appetizers, and an entree after. Seriously? How is this fun for anyone? All restaurant patrons had their meals disrupted. The children deserve to be tended for appropriately, after all do you really expect two or three year old twins(?) to be good for more than two hours and sit still when it is clearly past their bedtime? Also, what about the couple in our party that paid their babysitter over $50 to watch their much better behaved five year old. I actually have children in their late 20's and when they were that age, if we brought them anywhere other than a child appropriate restaurant (i.e.: Chuck E Cheese, or any restaurant which contains a ball pit), I would always have to bring them outside if they fussed. It is just good manners. So why should the restaurant be responsible for a pair of older, irresponsible, self-indulgent parents decision to bring their children to one of the more expensive restaurants in Huntington? 1- The mother halfheartedly apologized to our table and the other remaining table of two, by saying: "Sorry, it is usually noisier in here and it drowns the children out." Obviously, these people are regulars, and from her "apology", it sounds as if the children often misbehave, but usually the restaurant is too noisy for it to bother people. The Maître d' also seemed quite friendly with them, and knowingly decided to inflict them on us, and the others surrounding them. 2- The waiters were walking by laughing at what a fuss, including the screaming, barking and shrill noises made by the children. 3- There was no apology made by the restaurant to any of the diners. 4- The Maître d' easily could have suggested that they change tables or offered us that option, I think everyone in our party would have gladly listened to the traffic and street sounds outside rather than that. 5 - No discount either. It really made us relish paying over $400 and not be able to enjoy conversation. Cassis Owners/Managers take note, if you will not enforce some reasonable standard rules of behavior for parents who are unwilling to care for their children in your restaurant you cannot continue to be considered high-end. It is completely unreasonable to expect children of that age to "behave" in this type of an environment for any length of time exceeding the time they are actually eating. This restaurant was recommended to us by a friend and we were really looking forward to trying out a new place. To avoid the crowds esp. with Covid still around, we went on a Thursday at 6:30, just my girlfriend and I. There were only about 6 tables with 2 customers at each one, so not crowded at all. The place was clean and nice looking. We received our menus bread/water quickly and than our waiter arrived. From the start he acted rushed, which was strange since the place was not busy at all. When we hesitated regarding the wine we wanted, he quickly left and did not return for a good 15 minutes, no idea where he went. Once he returned we ordered our wine and food, but he did not recommend anything or describe any of the specials on the menu. It took a good 20+ minutes to get our food, the waiter did stop by once to ask how was it, water was filled once during our 2 hour dinner, not great considering the prices they charge. After we finished it was another 20 minutes without our waiter stopping by to see if we wanted dessert, so I flagged down another waiter and he took care of. After our ice cream which was fantastic, thank god, again I had to find someone else to get our check and I asked did our waiter quit, retire, etc. and all of a sudden he appeared and asked what was wrong. I told him you were never around or concerned about our dinner, he got angry and said i should of said something sooner, said in a nasty way he was sorry and stormed away. I guess he doesn't feel the customer is always right. We will never return to this place again. FYI, I have only had this poor of service a couple times in over 50 years of eating out. BTW, there was a single customer dining next to us, very nice guy and the same waiter forgot to give him his appetizer and the customer said forget about it. Pretty sad the poor guy only ordered two items and they forgot about the first one. I believe everyone deserves a second chance and I hope this waiter was just having a bad day, something was wrong at home, who knows, etc. Food was good, place is nice, was a shame we had such poor service. read more

Very disappointing. Went for lunch - the crepe was good - the salad seemed like mesclun from a bag - the creme brûlée- freezing cold. The worst of it was the place was basically empty and we felt rushed/pushed through the meal. We've had better meals for half the price in nicer places. I started off w/ warm brie on toast w/ frissee salad & pecans which was delicious, and lots of it. once I saw tuna tartare, I had to try it and I'm glad I did, no fuss, this was good.
