I saw this joint on Yelp and decided to try their Chai latte but I highly regretted it. Came in expecting a warm cozy cafe but instead was met with a very corporate feel. The place looks empty and so does the pastry glass case. There doesn't seem to be much going on and the place isn't very inviting. I ordered a Chai almond milk latte and a cappuccino that only came in a 10 or 12 oz cup for $9.00. Yikes! The biggest bummer of my food experience was that my Chai came out luke warm, which sucks the point right out of ordering a HOT drink, don't you think? The second bummer was the service at check out. An order that should have been processed once was processed 3 times at the error of the cashier and I explained that I needed a receipt for all those transactions made on my credit card. This concept seemed foreign to the workers there and that within itself doesn't seem like good customer service. Anywho, this was my first time here and it'll be my last. read more

I love Bitter+Sweet for the sole reason of being able to buy Humphry Slocombe ice cream in the South Bay! Let me repeat: HUMPHRY SLOCOMBE ICE CREAM. Not only are their extremely unique flavours incredibly delicious, but you are supporting a local (SF) business! Win-win! Bitter+Sweet rotates their flavours on a weekly basis, which are sometimes posted on their blog. But honestly, I've never walked in and not seen a flavour I wanted to try. My favourites so far are: - Secret Breakfast (bourbon & cornflakes) - Harvey Milk (honey & graham crackers) - Toast & Jam Their signature Red Velvet Latte is also worth trying. Personally, not my favourite thing, but a lot of my friends love it. Overall, a great place to catch up with friends or do some studying. Free wi-fi, but passcodes are limited to 2 hours. read more

Did this place live up to its expectations? I would say it's 50/50. Not to lie, I definitely came here only to try its red velvet lattes that everyone has been raving about. (+) Red Velvet Latte: Definitely did not disappoint. It wasn't too overly sweet like I thought it would be. The presentation was beautiful and I would definitely recommend this if you're looking to try something new. The shop is definitely smaller than I thought it would be. There's a big seating area in the back, 5 regular tables, and 3 round tall tables. To be honest, I love going to coffee shops for the purpose of studying or chilling but I feel like this place is more geared toward coffee dates with a group or another person. I wouldn't come here to get a full work-load done. Plenty of parking in the area! read more

Despite all of the lovely coffee art pictures that I've been seeing spammed all over Yelp and Instagram, I still didn't think the Red Velvet Latte I ordered was anything special. You can say it had more of the bitter than the sweet from the name Bittersweet, but I was not impressed overall and have tried better elsewhere. The workers are very nice and made the drink rather fast. The coffee art was beautifully decorated and my Red Velvet Latte was delivered in this cute round mug. The restaurant itself is very cozy and comfortable, and can be rather crowded around 4-6PM (which is the time that I went). Also, the amount of outlets that I have seen are rather plentiful. However, I found myself enjoying the chat I had with my friend more than the drink itself. I'll possibly give this place another chance and try a different drink, but right now, I'm more of a fan of the atmosphere than the drinks. read more

so about a month of so ago, my bff told me that she had the best ice cream at humphry slocombe and that i had to try it. unfortunately, i've never seen that flavor at humphry's and even when i called, they said it was a harry potter promo flavor. super bummed...i thought i would never get to try it... then, one day we decided to grab a latte from bitter+sweet...we read the reviews about the red velvet latte and were intrigued. we popped in after class and found that they also served humphry slocombe ice cream...i took a look at their ice cream flavors...and to my surprise...wait, no way...you're kidding me right? omg...they have butter beer!!!!!!!!! super stoked...i had to text my bff right away telling her the good news...bitter+sweet...you won my affection in 1.5 seconds. oh, and the red velvet latte was pretty gosh darn good also...i heart any place that creates designs with their foam. just that extra effort makes the latte taste that much better. the prices are pretty accurate for a cup of joe nowadays...the ice cream prices are about the same as humphry slocombe's...the service is super personal...5 stars! my go to spot in the south bay after a long day at class...try the butter beer! read more

A cozy little space in a really nice spot of Cupertino. I just started classes again, and I tend to commute back to the San Jose area on the weekends. I looked for some cafes that had tasty caffeinated drinks to sip on while I studied. I found this little gem on Yelp, and I loved the designs of the red velvet and chai lattes. I opted for the chai latte with soy mik when I got here and immediately snagged a table. This place is fairly small, with about 6-7 tables max. What I do like is the quiet ambiance, however. Though Cafe Lattea is always my go-to place for their delicious snowfalls, I do need a nice, quiet place to do my readings and Bitter+Sweet has the environment just for that. While I was waiting for my chai latte, I whipped out my laptop and books and began to delve into studying. When they called my order, I picked it up and pulled a balancing act, as if any sudden movement would ruin the pretty decor they did on the top of my latte. I also asked for an access code for the wi-fi, and they give you a tiny slip the size of little fortune cookie paper with an access code for two hours. I took a sip, and the chai latte was just the right amount of sweetness and the mug was pretty big and had a lot of content. I could barely finish it. As we all know that teas and coffees are diuretics, I had to use the little ladies room sooner or later. The bathroom was absolutely spotless and clean. Like I'm talking hospital-clean. Not county hospital clean, but Mayo clinic clean (reference to My Wife & Kids sitcom). The door made me feeling like an idiot, though! I pulled and pulled while my little bladder was about to explode and had to ask someone how to open the door. Alas, the person stifled laughter and said I had to slide the door to open it. Oops. A place I would definitely return to once in a while when I need a change of scenary to study. read more

I've been trying different coffee shops in the area lately, and Bitter+Sweet is my favorite by far! Located in a nice and quiet residential area in Cupertino with a convenient parking garage nearby, this coffee shop is the perfect place for getting work done or catching up with friends. They offer customers a wifi code that's only valid for two hours though, so you won't be able to connect to the internet for very long. The woman at the counter (I'm assuming the owner?) was super polite and was able to adjust the sweetness of the red velvet latte for me after I told her I wasn't a fan of sweet drinks. And I have to say the drink came out perfect. Though I didn't try any of the food or pastries, they all looked very appetizing and delicious. The place is also very clean and well-organized. I'd visit a lot more if I lived closer! read more

You had me at Humphry Slocombe. This coffee shop is located in a fairly new plaza right off De Azna Boulvevard (and, by "new", I mean it wasn't there when I last lived in the area nine years ago...). They have coffee, ice cream, desserts, pastries, sandwiches and places to sit to study or hang out. Where was this place when I was in high school?? The day I came, it was right before I was heading out to lunch. I didn't want to ruin my meal, so I couldn't have their fantastically awesome Humphry Slocombe ice cream. The best ice cream from SF! They offer about eight flavors at their place. Pretty darn good considering I don't have to drive all the way to SF for it. I decided to go for their popular red velvet latte. I was a little hesitant at first because I was expecting to be punched in the mouth with sweetness, but I was wrong. Being wrong never felt so right. The red velvet latte is the perfect balance between bitter coffee and sweet red velvet. A lot of the other flavored coffee drinks out there really packs on the sugar, but this one is juuuust right. It's nice being able to taste the coffee in my coffee drink. And to top it all off, they make a cute heart design in the foam to finish it. By the way, if you're into the straight black stuff, they're pretty serious about their drip coffee. Give it a try. Next time I come here, I'm definitely hitting up the ice cream. read more

Bitter+Sweet is a coffee and dessert bar which serves not only interesting drinks, but also Humphry Slocombe ice cream, pastries, cakes, and paninis. The space is very modern and is more sophisticated than the regular coffee shop. There is a mixture of regular and high tables and some counter seating. I could definitely see this as a great place to get some work done or just catch up with friends. I tried the chocolate hazelnut mousse and the chai and it was delicious! I came on a Saturday afternoon and the place was busy but not toooo busy, so it was a great place to get some work done. The cakes are pricey but worth it! Only reason I'm not giving it 5 stars is because the access code for the wifi only Gives you access for 2 hrs. read more

I always saw this place on the way home back when I was working nearby. But it took me forever before I finally have the chance to visit. The cafe is actually smaller than I thought but still very cute. It has some bar seating, regular table seating, and high table seating. I got the red velvet latte and my friend got the mocha latte. They were surprisingly not as sweet as I imagined. The red velvet one has a really nice marshmallow-y smell to and the mocha latte has a strong cocoa taste too! I am not too sure if the red velvet has any caffeine in it but it tastes really good regardless. I will definitely come again to try out the ice creams and affagatos next time! read more

Super careful about making your gourmet mixed drink correctly and with proper Mom and Pop strength and cares! About the best I've had anywhere in Cupertino. Of all things if you go here on Torre right in front of the library....that could be improved is the demented sliding bathroom door and pain in the arse lock! Really! Came here for the first time and loved it right away. They offer coffee drinks, sandwiches, pastries and ice cream. The flavors of ice cream are not your usual baskin robbins or cold stone flavors. The music they play in the store is really nice. Usually cafes like these play music at a very high volume which is really annoying because you can't really study in peace or have a hard time hearing what your friends are saying to you! I ordered the red velvet latte because a friend of mine recommended it. I didn't really know what to expect from a red velvet latte. My first thought was how on Earth are they going to make cake flavored latte? I was quite skeptical of how it was going to taste. I feared that it was going to be too sweet. When I tried the latte, i was surprised of how it wasn't too sweet. It had that slight buttery taste that you would get from red velvet cake. The red velvet flavoring was subtle in latte. The flavoring didn't overpower the latte at all. The unusual combination of a cake flavor and latte works so well! If you want a nice quite place to study, get a cup of coffee with some friends or get some unusual ice cream flavors, Bitter+Sweet is the place to go! read more

This is such a cute little upscale coffee shop in Cupertino! We've only ever come here in afternoon for a little pick me up but have always been impressed with the quality of the coffee. We've tried both the house blends and handcrafted espresso drinks- both have been impressive. It has the little more of a modern atmosphere almost trying to be trendy but there's this awesome chainmail wall that divides the space. The whole place seems pretty low key but the baristas really know what they're doing behind the counter. Its a little overpriced for the pastries but that happens in trendy coffee shops. One of our favorite desserts is definitely the tiramisu if you want something out of it tempting but if not just get one of their drip coffee from their specialty roasts and you'll be in heaven! read more

It was the biggest kouign amman I've had, but I didn't like the flavor- tasted too much like honey maybe? I like my kouign ammans on the buttery side. I will have to come back and try our their coffee and get some Humphry Slocombe ice cream (they don't have the ice cream in the front, only a list of available flavors)! This place was very modern, and cute inside, but the stools were not very comfy. Staff is really nice and there is ample parking, so a great place to sit back, relax, and chit chat with friends. read more

Are you on the east side of the south bay? If yes, go to line two. Are in need of a caffeine fix? If yes, go to line three. Do you only accept the best coffee you can get? If yes, you are in the right place. Bitter+Sweet is my favorite for when I'm around the Cupertino area and want some great coffee and quality service. The family(?) that runs it is always incredibly nice and friendly and they know their pastries and coffee (beans are sourced from Sightglass up in San Francisco, one of the best roasters). They do good pour-overs but if you're the type that likes milk-based drinks you have to try the red velvet mocha. The inside is pretty cool and has a good amount of seating for a relatively small establishment. They usually have a few outdoor tables as well. Parking can be tough during busy times. There's a few limited time spaces out front and a small garage nearby. read more

Superb coffee, warm colors and smiles. Another pearl added to the streets of Cupertino. They also sell tasty pastries and sweets. Very comfortable and pleasant place to sit alone with your laptop or with your freinds. They also have two tables sitting outside in the sidewalk. I love everything about this place -- plugs in all the right places, small and cozy but never super crowded, beautiful esthetics, and super friendly staff with not one bit of smug (even though they have every right to it because this place is that great). Love this place. Their famous red velvet latte is unmatched, and trust me, I've been to a lot of coffee shops haha. They serve Humphrey Slocombe's ice cream, which conveniently saves me a trip to SF. People rave about the secret breakfast (bourbon and captain crunch) but personally I'm partial toward their Vietnamese Coffee. By far the best I've tasted in terms of capturing the richness and intensity of an actual iced Vietnamese. Have yet to try their cakes and pastries but they look good. My one gripe is with the service here. All the bariatas are hipsters who look at you like you owe them something or that you have offended them personally. They never say hi or thank you for your patronage. The only one who's friendly is the older asian lady whom I believe is the owner. I'll still come, but I won't be happy about it. 3.5 stars. read more

Because someone educated me that I shouldn't give two stars due to the following factors but should only stick to coffee , i feel obligated to update my review. The factors that contribute to my previous 2 stars are: 1. Not enough sunlight to work or read if you like nice lighting. 2. 2 hours WiFi 3. Very crowded and noisy 4. just ok coffee And I don't like any of them. So I think I should give 5 stars because the coffee itself is fresh made and slightly better than Starbucks. I'm so glad that there's a place to get both Satura pastries and Humphry Slocombe ice cream so close to home! My friend and I tried both the Vietnamese coffee and Secret breakfast ice creams - yum! I ordered the cappuccino "for here," and it came with a pretty leaf design. The coffee is darn good and very strong. It's actually very different from what you'd get at a local Starbucks ( it's not a super straight up bitter espresso). Maybe it was just me, but I got a nice caramel-like aroma from the coffee. Pretty cool interior with the hanging chain curtains and awesome sliding bathroom door. It's a nice place to go to catch up with a friend and the location is super awesome. read more

Finally back to try their espresso and am glad to report it's up there with the best. Not the elite level like Verve, Sightglass, etc. but still one of the better places in the South Bay. They serve Sightglass so that's an indicator of quality right there. The espresso is quite balanced and not overly acidic. Also tried the Honey and Thyme ice cream. Deliciously sweet with honey flavor and delicate herby notes from the Thyme. Quite extraordinary. Great place for coffee and dessert but less so for hanging out with your laptop since you need a code that limits you to 2 hours of free wifi. You got the message? Compared to sulbing (which is almost double the size) I was kind of shocked to see it come out I understand they are known for other items like the walnut treats, so it is my fault I didn't try those but if you come here JUST for bingsoo, there are other spots to try I do want to give them a second chance and try the more well known items and drinks, will update if I decide to come back!

You won't accidentally stumble upon it unless you make an effort to seek it out. Despite this, it seems to be well known by locals and the seating area gets full at times. There is plenty of seating inside, and some outside. Outlets can be found it some tables. It's a good place to work with your laptop. It's mostly tables for 2. There's a larger communal table, and some counter seating. Parking can be difficult. There's a small area in the parking garage for "guest" parking. It's almost always full and you will depend on luck to find one spot there or arrive in time when someone is leaving their spot. There is no parking on most of the surrounding streets, except for the small section of the road that curves underneath Lawrence. And that part is often full of parked cars. It can be frustrating and this parking situation will easily drive away customers to find somewhere else with easier parking. If you're fortunate enough to get parking, you will find that Coffeebar offers a decent coffee menu, baked goods, and some food if you need more than a snack. The people working behind the counter have all been very friendly and helpful. Their Chocolate Croissant is HUGE!!! They'll ask if you want it warmed up. Definitely do this. It is delicious slightly warmed up. I have tried their Iced Chai Latte, which was just OK. It lacked the spice I was expected from a chai, and felt a bit too milky. I prefer their Iced Caramel Latte, which is much better than the Chai. Next time I will try their Mocha.

One can tell right away that they know their coffee and roast their own beans in-house. It gives the whole experience a refined, gourmet feel. The Nola style vanilla iced coffee was fantastic. The medium roast beans had rich, chocolate-forward notes, and the vanilla was subtle rather than overly sweet, balancing the coffee. It was near 5pm. I walked in and the place was empty. The gentleman behind the counter greeted me. I asked for a strawberry smoothie, then walked around to survey all the baked goods. It's a small bakery with lots of trays of individually packaged cakes and pastries. The smell was very pleasant and comforting. Using a flat basket (or tray) I grabbed a few selections. I picked 2 "Heart Pies" that resembled my favorite French Butterfly Cookies. Also 2 pound cakes. The total rang up to just over $21. There's some small tables for enjoying your purchases there, but I took my items to go. The icy cold fruit smoothie was very good and very cold! Not too sweet, it had a natural strawberry taste. The Heart Pies were good and fresh. But the Pound Cakes were probably "day old." I noticed there's no dates or "best by" tags on the packages. It's a nice place to visit, and I will return again. It's hidden gem off El Camino and near Lawrence Expressway where those that know good Korean baking have this spot on their short list of preferred places. I arrived a few minutes before my scheduled pick up time and Korean grandma behind the counter was super pro, teaching me how to confirm check in and gave me a mixed bag of baked goods with/without fillings. If you like surprises, are omnivore & no special diets or food allergies, Too Good To Go is the way to explore. The items were in generic packaging without labels, so take a pic of the items you like so can order when visit next time. While my family enjoyed all the items, I really enjoyed the black sesame studded puffy rolls that I think were made with rice flour. There was a large group of older Asian ladies, including one who brought their lap dog, enjoying good conversations in their native language with their baked goods and tea or coffee. Another gentleman was taking a video call to help decide the best cake to buy. Will add this bake shop for a place to have a coffee meeting and to favorite in Too Good To Go.

I would said their tea is a little bit on the lighter side, which overall tasted good. Staffs were friendly, there was some seating, as well as people sitting on the grass to picnic. Parking is really bad during the weekend, so I recommend coming on the weekday when possible. Bathroom is open for public, and the counter is clean. You order through a kiosk.

I am a regular at Bitter + Sweet. This use to be my favorite coffee shop in Cupertino, but when the owner is not there, it's really clear the service is shotty. I have observed this on several occasions, but today was the worst because not only was service terrible, but drinks were too. The owner needs to better train or keep an eye on her employees, especially the filipino guy with tattoos and baseball hat that I ran into today. That employee happened to make my drink in a quick rush so that he can be on his phone and surf the web. When I asked for a wi-fi code he acted irritated. Not only did the guy have attitude, but my latte that he made came out watery. She happened to be on vacation when I asked her employees and it's clear the were not behaving knowing the owner or taking the time to make my drink properly. They also blasted loud R&B music and rap today, which is not what I typically hear when I go here to study or do work. Because I like the owner, I hope to talk to her when she returns. I may reconsider going here and going to another coffee shop. There are plenty in the south bay. read more

Personally I have not been to Bitter+Sweet, but I now definitely would go to her cafe soon. Janice, the owner, was invited to our Economics class at my high school as a guest speaker. She was extremely cheerful and happy throughout the whole time. I enjoyed listening how her small shop was opened from the beginning and how it developed. Janice told us that she wanted to open a shop not for the money, but to make a impact on her community. I really admired her for that because I also wanted to make a difference in my society. She gave us simple advice that you would see on the media easily, but her advice connected with her personal experiences. This way we were actually able to listen her advice with our heart and not have it come out of other ear when we heard it. I know that I will carry her advice with me throughout my life. From this short 40 minute presentation, I could tell Janice was a sincere, fun, loving, and grateful person. I am sure that her coffee shop is as lovable and enjoyable as her. read more

The cafe's personality shines through with an arcade machine (a nice touch!), action figures lining the walls and counter, and welcoming potted plants by the entrance. I opted for the Vietnamese iced coffee, hoping for a refreshing pick-me-up. Unfortunately, it fell a bit short. The coffee itself seemed watered down, and the cup was dominated by ice, leaving less room for the actual coffee flavor. It wasn't bad, but it wasn't particularly memorable either. The service at Bitter Sweet Cafe was a bright spot. The staff was friendly and attentive. The overall ambiance, with its quirky decorations and arcade machine, creates a casual and inviting space. Janice Chua, founder of Bitter+Sweet was kind enough to drive over to my high school in Fremont, CA and spend an hour enlightening my 12th grade Economics class with lessons and stories from her experience as a small business owner. Within an hour, Janice inspired an entire classroom full of young adults to work with honesty, integrity, and passion...I am confident that her cafe emanates these same values. Although I've never personally been to Bitter+Sweet, I can guarantee that the management team works to create a nourishing environment for the community by providing the best service, and best products, for their customers. Walked in early at 8 am sharp open time. They don't offer to use your own cup which sucks. Even Starbucks has the online option of using your own cup in advance , let alone a small shop who can save money from people bringing their own cup. A lot of coffee places open at 7 am but not them, Cappuccino quality is good. Options are plenty for those sweet drinks lovers. Service ? Meh ... I see a sign saying no Apple paid with a sticker said prefer physical card , and the cashier obviously accepts Apple Pay, so what is the sign trying to say ? ( or I have not drank my coffee I need a boost to understand English ) If they can open earlier at 7 just like other places that would be a good reason to come back. read more

Fantastic store, great atmosphere and aesthetics, outstanding products, and above and beyond staffing. Their barista Daniel was very welcoming, knowledgable, and willing to coffee talk. Really appreciated that. He had great technique, wonderful milk texture to his capps, and though I am not a huge fan of Sightglass espresso (a little to heavy and bland to be honest, but that is just my preference) he did a great job. The owner is very sweet and willing to talk business with us. Their food was also outstanding. Overall great experience and this will be my number 1 stop for coffee in the SJ area. I absolutely love love love their Red Velvet Latte. It is heavenly. I have yet to see it anywhere else, and am so glad because Bitter+Sweet does it so well. They stay true to their name, because their drinks really are at the intersection of bitterness and sweetness - which is what makes this place so good. The ambiance is great - it's peaceful and quiet enough to have a quick date or study session. Even though the location is pretty small, I have never seen this place get crowded. The menu is very small, so the options are limited. I ordered a Mocha shake for 4.50, and though I did think it was a bit pricy, it was delicious. I also was interested to try their cakes, and paid almost 6 dollars for one of them. Though it was delicious, it was grossly overpriced considering the diameter of the cake didn't even reach 2 inches. The food is much too expensive; however, the drinks are only slightly overpriced. First off, I would like to say that the place is beautifully designed and very modernized! I came in for the first time the other night and was looking to try some new ice cream flavors. I had a hard time selecting one flavor since most of them did not seem too appetizing in my opinion. I ended up choosing the Coffee flavor which was decent, but seemed to taste too much like condensed milk ice cream. The small portion was $3.75 I believe, only one scoop. It was A-OK. I just met the owner, Janice, and she's an amazing person. She came to my economics class as a guest speaker at Mission San Jose High School in Fremont, and her speech was really great. The drinks all get 5 stars for presentations (especially their red velvet latte) although at best 4 stars for actual taste. Don't get me wrong - the coffee drinks are fine, they are just not as amazingly good as say Philz or blue bottle. I said no onions and pepperoncini. The sandwich that I opened the box to when I returned to work was a tuna salad on a croissant with lettuce, banh mi aioli, and banh mi pickled daikon/carrots. I called the business and informed there was a mistake as there are pickled daikon/carrots in my tuna croissant. I was told to bring it back and they'll make it right. Minutes later I received a voicemail stating that the sandwich was made correctly and that pickled daikon was suppose to be in the sandwich. Few issues I have with this...First, the flavor profile is not right. Second, why was I informed of all the trimmings when I ordered and pickled daikon/carrots was not mentioned to me. Third, where was the mustard, cucumber, mayo(they used banh mi aioli which is different than mayo) and tomato? Is this under new management? I used to order the tuna sandwich all the time and it was never made like this. All of the pictures posted of tuna or chicken salad sandwiches on here, do you see any pickled daikon/carrots in them?

We are regulars at this library and have patronized this cafe numerous times over the years. This is our first negative experience where we felt unfairly treated, especially compared to the table next to us. The cafe lady that confronted us should've did so to the table next to us too. Or she could've asked us to put away the food that wasn't from them, so that other patrons don't get confused. Or, she should give us the option to refund our pastries since we didn't get to eat them yet, as we had just sat down, after purchasing it.

The cafe itself is very pretty with couches, counter seating and tables. I loved the touches of Indonesian culture and my daughter spent a few minutes flipping thru the books they had open on one of the coffee tables. The new space is very bright and open, with plenty of seating. I especially liked the open countertop seats! I visited right as they opened (First customer!) and got to chat a bit with the owner and the baristas. Everyone was super friendly! The pandan latte, one of their signatures, is one of the best versions I've had to date. It is very balanced and not too sweet, which I find can be hard to get right with how distinct/strong pandan can be. They take advantage of their strong specialty coffee very well! I think Hijau deserves all the hype i've been seeing and I will definitely be returning to try their other drinks!
