Great food and fantastic service. The pretzel was so good. Homemade and crisp. The beer cheese was smooth. I got the Italian sausage and it was very tasty! My hubby had the schnitzel that he said was simple yet good. The moonshine Bloody Mary was yummy and the local brewed porter was just what a porter should be. Will be back! read more

We normally enjoy it here but lately the service has gone downhill. The owner served us last weekend and we did not even feel welcome! The beer was full of foam which you would think they would fix before serving but she only after we complained did she bring my husband another 1" of beer in a separate glass. Whaaat? The pretzels are really good but we had to wait a half an hour before any food or drink refills were offered and we were the only ones on the back porch. The inside of the restaurant was also nearly empty. Then I asked if they still had wifi because I couldn't get a signal and she said yes but I'm not sure what the pw is and walked away. Strange way to do business IMO. read more

Stopped in here for our last day of vacation. Didn't eat but looked like the food was good. Bartender's name was Bill and he made the stop. Bar was warm and inviting with a rustic feel. Knowledgeable and accommodating and kept us laughing the whole time. If your in town, be sure to stop here, you won't regret it. read more

I'm sorry but they should not even try to serve food. Was with a large group, not sure even where to start. Waitress was nice, and she tried her best, but.... - The soup of the day was potato and cheese. Sounded good, but the cheese was bland and there was no potato taste to be found. There were some little, undercooked chunks of something in the soup. Finally decided that they put a bag of frozen diced hash browns into their cheese dip and called it soup. - The Philly Cheese Steak was neither Philly nor steak, and very little cheese. Where to start. First, for $9 or so it was tiny. Second, the meat was pot roast. I was flabbergasted until someone pointed out a sign on the window that one of their specials that day was a pot roast sandwich, so they just substituted the pot roast they had lying around. Third, there were a few sprinkles of shredded cheese, but it put on last was unmelted. Fourth, both the onions and the green peppers were raw. Just big chunks of raw onion and green pepper. - The best part of my meal was the aforementioned Lay's Kettle Chips. - Their specialty supposedly is sausage, but one member of our party said instead of bringing him the bratwurst he ordered they brought him a glorified hot dog. - I tasted the overpriced big pretzel, and it tasted fine. (Like bread). But I would have to hated to have paid $8 plus $3 extra for cheese dip for some bread. - One person at our table asked for a roll to go her with her dinner. They brought her an oversized hot dog bun. One member of our party walked by the kitchen. He said all they had for cooking was an electric skillet, a microwave, and crock pots. Explains a lot I guess. This may be a fine place to order and drink beer. It is not a place to go to eat food. At the end of the meal, the waitress asked how was everything. Got a free pretzel for checking in. We devoured it with the horseradish mustard. I got the 2 sausage plate with coleslaw and potato salad. Coleslaw needs a little work needs something. We were very excited for the advertised pretzels, but were EXTREMELY DISAPPOINTED with the poor service, underwhelming food, and awkward atmosphere. Immediately after we walked in, the restaurant seemed messy, unclean, and chaotic despite half of the tables being empty (but cluttered with dishes from the past guests). After seating ourselves, it took 10 minutes for a waitress to come serve us and clear the previously messy table. During our time of trying to get her attention, she SHUSHED my friend and seemed very frazzled despite only serving three tables. Once our order had finally been taken, this began our hour long wait for five dishes (one of which was chips and salsa). The kitchen ran out of many ingredients, unable to make a quesadilla and have our cider of choice. The two visible waitresses clearly had tension, making the wait uncomfortable for all of the guests. The food was NOT worth the wait, and our waitress was defensive and inconsiderate when asked if we would be given any form of discount or comped dish. My wife and I happened upon this place last Saturday while visiting Blue Ridge. My wife is 100% German but has been in the states for a number of years. We decided to give this place a try. What a big mistake. First they were out of some items that interested us. We ordered Brats served with slaw, potato salad sauerkraut. The Brats were edible but the sides were awful. The flavor was poor and the potato salad extremely bad. When asked how did we like the meal we told that truth that it was awful. My wife pointed out how terrible the potato salad was and the gentleman replied that this was the way it is made in Germany. I told him that my wife is German and he abruptly left our table. We will never go back to this place. I would encourage others to stay away. read more

The beer might be OK, but DON'T go for the food. We happened upon this establishment while making our annual pilgrimage to Main Street during our Thanksgiving vacation. We went back the next day for lunch. I should have known how it would turn out when I saw the "Now Serving Quesadillas" sign on the door. We sat at the table in the window and were kept company during our lunch by 5 flies. I'm not exaggerating. We made some inquiries about the menu and discovered they were out of spaetzle and their sausages are not home made. I ordered the giant pretzel ($7) with beer-cheese dipping sauce ($3) and potato soup ($5). Hubby ordered the 2 sausage plate with Hungarian bratwurst & knockwurst with potato salad, mac n cheese & sour kraut. My pretzel was overcooked. My cheese sauce was under-cooked. There was a big lump of un-melted cheese in the middle of the souffle cup, it obviously came out of a can. After I had the waiter heat it up from barely warm, my soup wasn't too bad, although I suspect it was institutional food too. Hubby's sausages were run of the mill Sisco type fodder. His mac-n-cheese was delivered to the table at least 5 minutes after his plate arrived. He stuck his fork in my pretzel cheese dip and declared it was the same cheese sauce in his mac-n-cheese. For $15 a person, I recommend Harvest on Main. At least the food there is fresh. Or the wine tasting restaurant next door - their roast beef & brie sandwich sounded wonderful. read more

Black Bear Bier Garten Restaurant 500 East Main Street, Blue Ridge. 706-946-4440 Lunch & Dinner Black Bear Bier Garten Restaurant is located right on old main street and is nestled in between a group of shops. There is basically no parking available in front of this restaurant. There are a few parking places behind the restaurant that are almost never available. Patrons can park about a quarter mile away in a designated parking lot and then walk through the historic downtown streets. This is a small size "sports" restaurant with three small and separate seating areas. The first seating area is located at the bar, the second is just pass a narrow walkway along side the bar and the third is located outside. All sitting areas are open with ample walking spaces between tables. The tables are set up in a square arrangement that includes booths against a wall. The interior seating area and bar are designed like a Sports Pub, while the outside sitting area is more like a balcony cafe. The restaurant gives a sporty feel and yet retains enough class to provide a setting for couples. The bar and inside seating area has several large screen televisions that are tuned in on sporting events. This restaurant has the middle class in mind and adds a bit of a sports flair. However, the restaurant falls far short of being a German pub and there is little decor in the restaurant that would make a patron feel as though he or she was in Germany. The menu is German cuisine that also offers the basic American comfort foods and sandwiches. The serving plates are small but will put a dent in most appetites. The quantity of food served will leave plenty of room for a vast selection of imported beers. The quality of the food is good but not memorable. For example, the cook prepared a Philly Cheese Steak Sandwich but after the first bite, it becomes clear that the cook has never been to Philadelphia. The sandwich is tasty but a far cry from an original Philly. The side orders are served in paper cups which makes you hesitate about eating them or not. The waitresses are very hospitable and provide welcomed conversation and very good service. They provide a very laid back attitude that is refreshing. The restaurant seems to cater to the sports fan and the evening party goers. The price tag is a bit high for the quantity and quality of food offered. They serve a variety of beer but focus on German and European special brews and also offer a good selection of your favorite wines. Had hoped to find lunch out of the ordinary so went here to find a pretty nice beer selection and really interesting menu. Unfortunately, after our drink order came out our server said "Oh I guess I should have told you that we are only serving pretzels and sausage today". WTF? 3/4 of the menu is unavailable? Why be open then? Pretty shady way of bringing that up too....after the drinks are poured. My friends are more tolerant than me. If it had been up to me we would have walked. This place is a ZERO, we got in late from driving to GA and this place was open so we popped in. Bartender took her time texting on her phone before getting to us, told us kitchen was closed...it was 830 then recommended 2 other place who were also closed. Against my better judgement we went back the next night for a beer before dinner and they were literally out of every beer. I order the only local beer she had left, she handed me the 2 beers and she walked outside with 2 shots in her hand and took both while smoking in front of the bar. She continued to complain to some of her friends that the bar had to stay until 10pm...oh no not 10. Avoid at all cost, we didn't eat here due to the reviews and yes you can see the microwave and gf grill. read more

I live in Cherry Log, halfway between Blue Ridge and Ellijay. I truthfully would only recommend three places to eat in the area, and this is one of them. Their local beers are wonderful and the giant pretzels fantastic. My friend and I stopped in for just a beer and pretzel, then decided to split a Rueben sandwich and sweet potato fries after we ate our beer and pretzel, lol. It was very good, the corned beef was extremely lean and the sandwich big enough to split and still fill us up! I love sitting at their bar, the atmosphere is awesome and the staff is very friendly. Highly recommend stopping here! read more

We were looking for some German food today as we did some errands and decided to try this place. No one greeted us so we found our own table, but it was dirty so we found another table - it was dirty too. After we ordered the Wurst meal our waitress told us that they were out of coleslaw. When our meals arrived we were told that they were also out of potato salad, so we were given potato chips instead. The freezer motor cut on and off behind us, loud country music played over the speakers, and NBA was on the TV - not exactly the German ambience we were expecting. When the $8.95 Wurst finally arrived, sitting on top of a piece of bread, next to a bag of chips, it was bland. Then we overheard the waitress tell the people at the next table that they could have cole slaw as a side. All in all I'd have rather just gotten a hotdog at the gas station. read more

Went there for lunch and ordered the wiener schnitzel and a beer. Even though the taste was very good, the portion was very small. Typically these are big everywhere else, (including Germany), but this was like a sample...too bad because the beer and the pretzel were great. This "restaurant" (term used loosely) took an hour to bring a grilled cheese sandwich to my 3 year old daughter and never brought out my wife's food. When we complained, we were told by the owner the meal was comped and he apologized. After we left, the owner's wife then sent someone down the street to come and get us and pay the bill which they then overcharged us for. Stay far, far, away from this place. Go anywhere but here. Good place for beer but DONT order food. My entree was bad but couldn't order anything else cuz there was nothing I would WANT to order

This place had the most terrible service. Everything on the menu they were "out of" the waiter came back to take our order 4 times and still got it wrong. 45 minutes into us getting there, only 2 of the 5 of us had our meals. We were very frustrated and finally gave up on 2 of the meals ever coming and asked to speak to the manager. The manager apologized and said the meal was comped. We left and started walking downtown and a "waiter" from the restaurant came up to us inquiring about why we left without paying. Long story short, this business is owned by a husband and wife, the wife didn't agree with the meal being comped even though the husband stated he would comp it. We had to come back and pay for our meal and also they charged us for the meals we never received! They wouldn't even remove them from our check. If you are in Blue Ridge, go to Blue Orleans or one of the other wonderful restaurants there and totally skip this dump! read more
