I'm going to keep this short. We came in with a table for 5. They sat all 5 of us in a table normally reserved for 4. There were other bigger empty tables, specifically the round tables, but they chose to sit us in a small table. It seems they gave preferred treatment to those who weren't people of color. . Service was horrible. The server did not understand the menu. My son ordered a Bob's Burger. The grilled onions were dry and black. The burger patty had lost all signs of moisture. It was a desert. I ordered a Bigfoot Chicken Fried Steak with eggs, sunny side up, with grits. When we received the plate, it was served without gravy over the Chicken Fried Steak. Before I can make a remark, the server left the table and came back 5 minutes later only for me to tell them that my plate is incomplete. She looked at me wondering what was missing. So we decided to just walk. No one touched their food. She was surprised why we walked away. Further training is definitely required for this site. Staff do not understand the menu nor do they understand the expectation of their menu. If there is any brave soul that want to try this spot out again to let me know if they have improved, let me know. My recommendation for my followers, go across the street to Mil's diner. They have great customer service and a staff that treats you like family. read more

A staple that is struggling to survive post-pandemic. I've been to this location many times before. Good portioned food, good staff, sometimes a long wait but nothing too bad. Came here recently and the vibes are similar but the biggest issue seems to be a drop-off in food quality & service. Seems like there isn't enough wait-staff to keep up with customers even though we came at a non-busy time. The biggest gripe I have though is the pricing. I ordered Bacon, Eggs combo with a slice of French Toast which was $17.29 before tax. A little expensive for the amount of food you get. The issue I had was with the pricing of one of my party's meal. They ordered the Bigfoot Chicken Fried Steak for $24!!! If you go track prices, it was $13.99 in 2017, $16.79 in 2021 & $19.89 in 2022 and now at $24 in 2023. A 42% price increase in 6 years is a big burden to place on customers who have been coming here for a long time. The food was also underseasoned which we managed with salt & hot sauce. I had called ahead and let them know I was coming and asked if we could have a nice quiet table in the back room so my son didn't distract anyone from their dining. When we arrived, they placed us exactly where I was hoping they would seat us and the waitress that helped us was so wonderful and patient with my son, we placed our order and then when he heard others placing their order, he changed his and she was 100% accommodating throughout our meal. I had dinner at a nearby restaurant and we were looking for some warm dessert afterwards. We didn't want to go too far and Black Bear's menu showed a few options that looked good. It was pretty empty when we came in and we walked by the front desk where the desserts were displayed. Majority of them were wrapped in saran wrap. Very appealing right? Maybe because we were feeling defeated with not being sure where to go but I was unsure why we continued to get seated at this point. We were seated immediately and ordered a brownie sundae and grandma's famous cobbler. Everything was served cold. We had to ask the waitress to heat up the brownie and the cobbler and to add some chocolate drizzle on the brownie. It made the dessert a little better but we definitely won't be returning. It was just a bad idea from the start, so whenever you see saran wrapped foods proudly displayed do yourself a favor and just walk out. read more

Just went for Mother's Day ordered country patatoes a sausage bacon, easy over eggs with the side of biscuits and gravy, but I don't understand why they make the biscuits so huge and give tiny bit of gravy that's not enough gravy. It never came never received the lemonade. The server did come one time and then I and then when they brought our food, we didn't have silverware to eat with the food. so had to wait around so I could ask for some silverware then the couple behind me very politely me kept asking for napkins over and over and over and over and over and over and finally I asked somebody can they please give the table behind me some napkins, finally get some napkins to the table .wasn't overly packed , but I'm not understanding why they're not as attentive and why they would serve burnt food. This place is 100/10! So good! This is my go-to breakfast place next to my work. Better than Dennys, better than iHop, better than Mill's Diner (Sorry Mill's). Food is always on point! My very first black bear diner experience and I'm not mad about it! It was so good! The first time I came was back in 2014 so you can see it's been a long time, but rest assured, I've been back and I've been to other locations. They are all very consistent and have the same interior decor. It makes it feel very cozy and homely when visiting. Prices are not outrageous like some of the new trendy breakfast spots. The menus are very extensive. You can not go wrong with anything you choose! They are all very good. Portions are huge as well! read more

Ordered take out here for the first time for the parentals and it was perfect! The service was great. It was my first time here and I wanted a hearty breakfast to take home, so after perusing the menu for a moment I decided on an rder of pancakes, eggs your way, sausage or bacon and a side of potatoes. I ordered mine with sweet potato fries, those fries tasted perfect. Freshly made and my Reuben was amazingly juicy with the perfect amount of meat to bread ratio. The rye bread was not soggy either. The ambiance was really low key and we were able to chat a lot before ordering our meals, staff didn't seem to be annoyed with us nor did they rush us either. It seemed like a classic American "diner" where proportion sizes are on the larger side. Black Bear Diner lived up to my expectations and more! Most notably, I loved how the staff worked together and had positive vibes going for them. Thanks again!! Omg, first and foremost, our waitress, Adrianna!!! Her customer service is Awesome!!! It's extremely rare to find such awesome customer service!!! She's very attentive, drinks are always refilled. Her voice tone is very pleasant. She speaks very clearly. Checks to see how things are going. Her superior service is amazingly out of this world!!! Come hungry, Bears! This place only knows hugenormous bear-sized portions. I've had food from this place a few times now and every single time, I get served enough food to feed at least 2 people. The breakfast foods that I've had so far are legit. Corned beef is my favorite and this place does the real corned beef, not the dog food kind. They do their bacon well - perfectly tasty and just the right amount of crisp. I've had their hollandaise sauce here and it's a nice, thick, tangy sauce that goes really nicely with their benedicts. As far as their potatoes go, I prefer their hash browns over their country fried potatoes, but I tend to prefer hash browns in general. The decor is adorable. It reminds of the Grand Californian if anyone's ever been to that Disney resort. It really looks and feels like it belongs right there in the resort or in California Adventure. read more

I finally had the chance to dine at Black Bear Diner. The place was always packed whenever I drove by. I wanted to see how it compared to Denny's and Ihop. I ordered the basic breakfast. It came with 2 pancakes, egg over easy, a piece of bacon, sausage and toast. I ordered a side of hash brown because I love hash brown. The bacon was thick and the sausage was plump. They had a different taste and texture. The hash browns were fluffy and well browned. I prefer crispy. I can say Black Bear ranks above Denny's and Ihop. This is a fun place to go for comfort food in a comfortable setting. Old jukebox music plays in the background while you read old Milpitas Post articles as well as the menu. My tortilla salad was a real treat. I ordered it with Impossible Burger meat instead of ground beef. It came in a huge tortilla shell filled with lots of greens, tomatoes and avocado. Don't go there! First of all, the prices have skyrocketed. Secondly, for the amount of money that you pay for an omelette, you can get the same omelette, which is double the size at another eatery like Holders that charges you less. To add insult to injury, holders offers you two pancakes with the meal and I was horrified to see that pancakes were not part of this meal but yet cost another $14 for two, would you get for free with the meal at Holders. It took forever for the food to arrive, and when the food finally arrived, there was about a spoonful of hashbrowns caked in grease and an omelette that looked like it had seen better days. The only redeeming fact, was that the buttermilk biscuit was actually fluffy and fresh. Even the staff seemed washed out and worn out and wrung out and hung up to dry. I hope they make some changes or they will lose customers like me. At a time when the restaurant is supposed to be, but it seemed like it was half empty. read more
